Someone pls recommend a good charger for 200AH battery! I would actually prefer one that can automatically detect fully charged battery and cut of charging to avoid overcharging. I've been searching on jumia. |

ednut1: There's difference o! UK - good transport system all-over! Subways and buses work well! You dont even need a car! Universal health care! Gun control US - good transport system available only in some states! You'll need a car! No universal health care! You'll need health insurance! No gun control. However, I think US appears to have more opportunities for work - just a little better than UK! However, a good job doesnt come easy in all these countries, especially for men of colour! |

If you are lucky to get all these done within 2 yr post-study period, good for you! Else, find your way back to square one! 3 Likes |

Speaking from experience, UK does not have jobs for you after graduation. The job market does not favour international students after graduation. They are, however, happy to have your money and to count you among the growing numbers of their international students! 24 Likes 1 Share |

APCNig: The Prof even put it mildly. The nitwit representative put figures behind it to buttress what the Prof was saying (foolishly thinking he was countering the Prof's position), but in real sense, he had just emphasized it further! 2% of national budget for less than 500 persons is outrageously exorbitant. It also speaks a lot about the intellectual capacity of the kinds of representatives we put there - people who can not engage in critical and logical discourse without roping themselves (and the entire nation) into more problems. |

seborrhic: So, are you trying to argue that they've not made rental income from these dilapidated old ramshackle houses since they were built? So, it's time to realize current value of old properties by ripping others off! You have done well by telling us today's cost of building the same type of property, but fact is.."these old huts lack the aesthetics and modern facilities today's properties of N50mil will give you" Again, you have not factored in depreciation, wear and tear, safety (many of them are likely to collapse due to age) etc etc. When you bring in all these factors, many of these properties should even be demolished! They are still standing and used as structures for extortion because of the kind of society we live in, where systems and processes don't work! Go inside many of them and conduct simple inspection, you'll puke. Wires are old, rusty pipes, cracked walls, leaking roofs, etc Irrespective of whatever exchange rate is today, the fact still remains that these properties are over-priced! |

It's quite surprising that properties on that axis are skyrocketing without consideration for current harsh economic realities! Landlords and Agents are mercilessly ripping residents off in that area, as well as neighbourhoods such as Akoka, Gbagada, & Yaba. The high demands for rental apartments by students and staff of higher institutions within that area (UNILAG, YabaTech, FCT Akoka etc) as well as easy access to the Third Mainland bridge actually made the demand even higher. No 3- bedroom flat goes for less than N1mil in these areas mentioned. With Agency and Legal fees, you are spending not less than N1.5mil. The funny thing is that the buildings are extremely old fashioned buildings (as shown in the pics here, without modern floor or wall tiles) and built with less than 500k at the time they were built! 1 Like |

Nairaland / General / Re: Why Is It That It's The Doctors And The Lecturers That Are Always Going On Srike by Saynoomore: 10:29am On Aug 10, 2021 |
Those two professions are intellectually driven, but the problem is - Nigeria does NOT value intellectuals! They'll rather spend money on entertainers! Lecturers and Doctors earn very paltry income in Nigeria, less than a tenth of what their counterparts in the global north (and in many other global south countries) earn! Apart from the miserable pay, the backlog of unpaid salaries is alarming! this backlog runs into several years in some cases! Industries would rather support Wizkid or Olamide's Concert than fund research! A first-class (best graduating student) gets N5K, whereas BBN winner gets over N85mil! A country where Doctors working round the clock, even during the pandemic are paid N5k ($10)/ month as hazard allowance, whereas TV reality show artists and polithiefians are smiling to the bank! #things have, indeed, fallen apart! |

As far as I'm concerned, what you have just done is practical Christianity! Being a Christian does not begin & end with going to church. Forget whatever turns out as the outcome. You have played your part. The little lad might make some mistakes in the line if his new-found business, but he will learn and improve, and hopefully tell his story someday. I'm sure he won't forget your gesture. If he is in Lagos, and you can give a vivid description of where you found him, pls pm me. Cheers bro! Edited, 136 Likes 5 Shares |
