Thanks for your response. Congrats again Enculer: Lived in Francophone countries for like 4 years. Did not feel I immersed enough though but at least I got to listen to news and watched a few movies.
Daily interacting with people on the streets also helped.
Some people like exams bit I absolutely hate it. I do not feel exams are the best form of testing knowledge. I hate the feeling. Some people are good though and can use their little knowledge to get a lot from exams.
I think you can immerse yourself wherever you are as long as you have materials. Listening materials and you have online people to.discuss with.
Try not to use African accents. Try to use oyibo French as much as you can. |

Wow, beautiful results. Congratulations, Please what is your background in French? Thanks Enculer: Passed my TEF yesterday in the UK.
CO - C1
Missed opportunity as I messed up a long question. I am still angry as I knew exactly where I missed 4 questions. The fifth question I failed was I mixed up library and biblioteque in the part C. So I know the 5 I missed. It could have been 7 in the end. I feel like punching my head. That is where I screwed up and I knew it, otherwise the homophones section was a breeze 10/10 sure.
All new questions.
CE - C2
Question: bierre vert, transport, Ange saint Michel.
EE- Results in 3 weeks.
Expecting a B2 as I feel I messed up the fait divers. Went blank for some strange reason. The letter to the journal was better but I think I made a few spelling errors which will take me well clear of C1. Missed opportunity I think. If I get B1, I will not jump over a cliff. Such is life.
Questions.
1. Lady forgot her baggage. Continue fait divers. 2. Write to a journal stating your opinion about child access to internet.
EO- Results in 3 weeks
Expecting a C1 minimum unless they screw me up. I went off topic a bit but it was the guy that asked me to "just talk" and "continue talking". Invented stuff and maybe talked a bit too fast. In the first bit, I stopped and the guy had to ask me to continue. LOL.
I was doubtful as to whether I was audible and for some strange reason did not make enough eye contact. Na wa oh.
Questions. 1. Call a hotel to ask for info about staying there. 2. Convince a friend to do sports.
I need to work on IELTS. I need materials. I must not screw this one up if not, no EE for me.
I am kind of happy I did TEF first because na red eyes I go use do IELTS.
Abeg if anybody get materials for IELTS. I plan to start by next week in earnest. |

Bonsoir a tous et a toutes,
First and foremost all the best in you exams @Bellerin, I believe even the TEF markers will know that someone took their exams from Nigeria on the day. Also best wishes to all the "silent" readers here as you silently take your exams.
On this TEF vs TCF matter, make me sef add my own 2 million Canadian Dollars on top.
I believe overall, it is easier to attain your goal with the TCF than with the TEF. I have written the TEF (awaiting results), and I am revising for TCF (just incase). My reason is simple and will be explained thus:
1. As prof Mamaroon as already explain, you need just 50% pass mark to attain B2 in speaking and writing. We all know that EE is a major stress point for TEF takers, infact I couldn't attempt the TEF for a long time because of my fear for the EE. But then, even if they both required 70% pass mark, I would have still gone for the TCF EE, rather than that of TEF as the questions come in 3 parts and 4 essays in what I would call bite sizes. Your mistakes will be fewer if you have to write in shorter forms than the long argumentative essay you meet in part B of TEF. Also, the speaking come in 3 bite sizes of which the part 1 (se presenter) and part 2 (ask questions like part 1 in TEF) already puts you on the way to success.
2. The CE of TCF is much simpler, shorter and more straight-forward even at the C2 level than those of TEF. You don't need to have seen the questions previously to be able to answer.
3. The CO of TCF is rather tricky (my fear), however, in practice, i realise I tend to score better in B1, B2 and C1 than in the A1 and 2, well overall it is still tricky.
WHAT WORKS FOR TEF 1. It used to be much more popular than TCF so there is a lot of revision materials and their solutions available
2. They repeat questions A LOT, so if you are lucky to encounter a repeated question, then you are good. My CO was completely new as I had neever heard the questions before.
3. Out of 60 listening questions, you will find a lot more easier questions to answer than the 39 of TCF
My Submission
If you have written TEF more than once, it is difficult to "change" to TCF because of the major reasons I gave, but if you have never written any of the exams, I would advice you to go for the TCF. Once you have learnt the language enough to write the exams, focus on the understanding the CO pattern, once you do, you are good to go.
All the best a tous et a toutes, for if there is one major thing we will all gain apart from a minimum of 42 points, is the ability to speak a second foreign language, and it is something I can't trade away. |

It's a closed group, and I don't know the implication of dropping the link here I can drop is here if it won't cause any issues. @Mamaroon, Yes, they did a B1 evaluation before I joined. Writing was bad though, but it would be a disservice for me to go to A2 just because of it, based on the assessment of other areas. Also, did you just see your result or this is attestation? Because, April results are out as of today. They are just waiting for attestation now. I believe if one can know the status of the result within or less than 4 weeks, one can plan based on the outcome while waiting for the attestation Mamaroon: Thanks Scard....understand what you mean by not feeling ready but did they offer any B1 evaluation before you joined the B1 class?
Well done...I pray your hard work is well rewarded....see you at the July 20 exam.....maybe |

Wow!!!! @Mamaroon, Beautiful result you got there! And it shows you have got everything required to pass this exam. Reading through the comments and your responses, I am encouraged by your strength and inspiration. You are there already for sure. A brief update, I haven't taken the exam as I thought I would have. Reason being that I went to AF for revision class only to discover that I am not ready for the exam. My speaking and writing were especially poor and I needed to do more. While I understand that there will never be a time to be FULLY ready, I didn't think it was right to go in at the level I was at. Seeing as I had some free time at the moment, I decided to enroll at AF Lagos at the B1 level to improve my general french interaction as they largely only speak french there. I must say that in 2 weeks of being there, I have noticed significant improvements. I plan on taking that of July hopefully. All the best to everyone, and @Mamaroon, remeber you are an inspiration anytime. @njby...... how's your end? Have you landed? Hopefully, one day we will gather physically in Canada and share our stories. Mamaroon: Ok peeps. So it's some good news and some not so good news

My dear, the jacking is not here oh. I have made up my mind to write April 29th, as it is the only to really test where I am. There are times I feel on top of the roof like I'm going to score C2 all the way, but there are times I wonder whats up with me. In all I will say I am making progress. For those who have taken the exam this year, did they give the 10-15mins preparation time for speaking? Because, towards the end of last year, there were complaints about it not being given. Well done @Mamaroon and everyone else, and all the best in your Mar 30 exam. Please January and February peeps, don't do this to us naa, come and share your experiences so we can learn a thing or 2 Mamaroon: Come come come.....
So because: NJ has gotten PPR Etrange has ITA DanMisla is doing Ontario Ayboye has gotten a job Na only Bellerin still dey
.....sooooo nobody wants to talk again ABI!!! Issorai
Ok o..... me I'm a March 30 candidate. AF have moved from yaba...they say we may write our exam in Ikeja.
For EE I'm cramming everything from address to how to introduce yourself....intro at the beginning and the summary paragraph...leaving my worries to be reduced to the actual 3 arguments depending on the topic on the day.
AF prep classes have been useful. They are 9 to 3pm starting the first weekend of the month of each TEF exam.
Mariah? How did it go in Feb? Scard? How jacking? BootyliciousHon? Did you decide to write in the end?
A tous....bonne chance! Courage...

Thanks @DanMisla DanMisla: Best wishes as you prepare, Scard. I remember at my centre we debated before the exam whether or not to start Section B with the addresses. I didn't eventually and scored ok in EE. I won't worry too much about the addresses - but if you do include them, you'd need to make sure the spellings, format, et al are correct. Secondly, while it obviously depends on your comfort levels, you really don't have to use that many complex sentences. Short, punchy and active sentences are just as fine, I think. Where you can use a variety of verbs, you should. And throw in different tenses where possible (imparfait, PC, subjontif, gerondif), to demonstrate your knowledge. Bonne chance! |

Hello Prettiepearls, Even though you are making enquiries about TEF, I can't help but notice that it seems age is still very much on you side. While, some whizkids here @nj......., @Booty, @ Bellerin, @ Mamaroon etc were able to do very well within a short time, it is not that easy to achieve within 6 months. My advice would be, if you are still significantly below 32 years of age, you can easily register for the NOUN 1 year program to boost your score. It pathway has helped a lot of people and I personally think it is more straight-forward than this TEF thing. Sincerely, if I could esape taking the exam, I woud have gladly done so, but age is not my friend and the various PNPs do not align with me. All in all, it is very possible to pass it within a year of intense study. All the best Prettiepearlz: Thank you ma’am I appreciate this. Yes I am aiming for CLB 7 and I can’t classify my knowledge of French from my secondary days as a knowledge because I didn’t do anything with it again and the hustle to come of university with good grades replaced any idea of French. But with six months of classes or even more I should be able make it right? Where will you recommend I take the classes? I know the exam is definitely with AF. Thanks ma’am. I intend to start the classes as soon as I am done with IELTS saga. I am trying to do this fast as I was told that that for every Birthday after your 29th, you lose 5 points, I don’t really have that much time to waste on acquiring a masters degree from Nigeria. |

Well done everyone for your various contributions to this group. It continues to be a tremendous source of help to me, and I'm sure so many others. So, I have been able to break down the writing into bite size using the Section B format. Name and address of both sender and recipient Solid introduction and conclusion Use of connecting words Arrangement of Paragraphs. For the above, I would say I am making good progress. However, the only major challenge now is the actual sentence construction. I am realising that writing single simple sentences is far different from writing complex sentences that forms an essay or journal. I pray I am able to get around that pretty quickly. njbybrthnly: Yea you're right @ the bolded.
But errm, you forgot to thank Scard for asking the question in the first place, because I don't think these points would've come up without it.
Rooting for you still. Good luck in your next exam |

I HAVE GOTTEN PPR!!!!!!!!!!!! AOR: December 14, 2018 PPR: February 20, 2019
I remember when my TEF results came out, hubby always used to say that our app processing time will be very short because Canada is looking for bilingual people . I just used to nod in agreement but it's like IRCC decided to prove him right o.
That aside though, I give God all the glory. He has come through for me in a very specific way (honestly I feel like before now He had left me in the care of His angels and then sometime last year, He singled me out and decided to place His hand on my head...blessings upandan, left, right and centre) and I didn't even need to beg and cry. First, with the TEF (which I did as a trial run not knowing He had other plans), and now this, PPR in 9 weeks 5 days post-AOR, with loads of other blessings inbetween. Words can't express how grateful I feel right now.
So, in case you're looking for something extra to motivate you, let's test my oga's theory which states that, EE applications with good IELTS and additional points from TEF/TCF results have a very short processing time
Who knows? Hubby might be on to something . Let's keep at it guys, you could be next.
I'm so overwhelmed that my head is even paining me |

They say a person that asks questions does not miss road. So please pardon me.
I have read from the experts on this forum that the last 10 questions are the easiest, unfortunately, I find the last 15 the most difficult, as I keep scoring very low in that section, interestingly, I score better in the section B.
Please, are there an "hacks" to getting around them?

DanMisla: malheureusement, oui. :-( All factors considered, my CRS was @ 431, with English as first language in the EE profile. Well, at first I studied several TEF writing samples which I found on YouTube (Enseignement de FLE channel especially), the TEF books and prepmyfuture.
As suggested by @Bellerin earlier, for the first section, read lots of faits divers articles online. Some popular French journals are le parisien, le monde and figaro. A simple Google search will lead you to their websites. |
