Yhemit:Bros I don't know, am still an undergraduate. You can find out from the NYSC discussion thread |
Very possible, my cousin schooled in DELSU (Delta state), he was originally deployed to the north but he redeployed back to Delta(state of origin) and was posted to our own LGA headquarters for his PPA, just 100 card bike to villa. Dude was flexing NYSC, he will just take bike to meet grandma at home, eat fresh homemade meal, carry enough food and 100naira back to his PPA ![]() |
Too bad that the Nigerian healthcare has degenerated to this. And some doctors on nairaland here were boasting that they don't need the JOHESU members, death rate reduces when they are on strike and bla bla bla, why the sudden crisis, I thought they had everything under Control as they can serve as nurses, pharmacist, medlab scientist and others. They should learn that healthcare is a teamwork and no one is dispensable. |
Mentorababio:my school Uniben is yet to induct and it will be this year from all indications. I have not graduated yet, incoming final year |
Kindly come and continue your dairy @ OP, as an FYB MLS student, really want to learn from your experience before I start the internship hustle by next year when I graduate. |
God am ashamed when I see supposed educated people still thinking like people from the Pre colonial era, ask yourself an Urhobo man, Itsekhiri, Anioma have all steered the affairs of the state, how has this improved the life of the average individual from this parts of Delta? While Delta state receive one of the highest allocation, my own dear state is stagnant and the present governor is busy commissioning FUEL station in this 21st century. Partisan politics and tribalsim has always been the reason we are in this state when states like Akwa Ibom is developing at a fast pace. If as a graduate and you are still thinking because a candidate is from your Senatorial district or speaks same language then he is the best man for the job then you are "made among men most miserable and your education is a waste of scarce resources ". Technocrats like Tony Elumelu and Pat Utomi will never be given the chance to rule because they are not known politthiefcians in the state. When many states are merely existing and waiting for federal allocation to share at the end of the month, people are still clamouring for more states WTF. OPEN YOUR EYES AND SEE O YEA BLIND DELTANS, THE STATE SHOULD THE MOST DEVELOPED IN THE REGION AND YOU GUYS ARE STILL THINKING LIKE YOUR ANCESTORS THAT NEVER SAW THE FOUR WALLS OF A PRIMARY SCHOOL.SMH |
Wrote SSCE 4times because of Mathematics WAEC- All B's expect maths and English D7 NECO- passed English and maths E8 NECO GCE - F9 festival, till date am still wondering if Neco just uploaded someone's else result for me, even with my eyes closed,i can't have a D7 in physics, Chem let alone an F WAEC GCE following year- cleared all with C4 in the stupid Maths that made me loose my admission in Uniben when NECO GCE came out and I didn't make it. currently on a 4point CGPA in my 5th year in same Department, same school I lost my previous admission on matriculation day(Neco GCE came out two days to matriculation and I couldn't continue with clearance anymore. Consulted different offices and nothing could be done as a credit in Maths was needed, Had to pack my things and leave Uniben on my supposed Matriculation day) *STORY OF MY LIFE* |
Moneyfem:"The dog that is about to get lost doesn't hear the hunters whistle " same way MMM was paying and people lost millions in it. TBC is scam, don't come and start whinning later on nairaland. |
Bayelsa -Glory of all lands Enugu -coal city state Delta -the finger of God IMO -Eastern heartland Oyo -pace setter Ogun- gateway state Plateau -home of peace and tourism Bauchi -pearl of tourism Adamawa-Land of Beauty, Sunshine and Hospitality Borno -Home of Peace Katsina -Home of Hospitality Kebbi -Land of equity |
ultron12345:your hatred for other health workers will only give you BP. So Nurses are paid 40$/hr in some US states just to make bed and dispense drugs? Or the pharmacists that spent 5/6yrs in school is just to look up the name of a drug and give like a local chemist. Pathologist that don't know how a microtome works will replace the histoscientist or Resident doctor that can't differentiate between CLED and DCA media will carry out MCS? That is why the Nigerian healthcare will remain in shabbles when Doctors claim to know all, why don't you write to Federal Govt to scrap all other healthcare professions because you can do everything. Mtcheew |
linzeze:1. As long the certificate is still classified, a 3rd class can't have same chances as someone who graduated with 2.1. If you are an employer I bet you will choose a 2.1 graduate over 3rd class all other factors been equal. To me classification of BMLS should have been scrapped, medical degrees are unclassified as Nursing, pharm and others have adopted with 3.0 as minimum point out of 5.0 to graduate as Grades D and E will be eliminated and C become minimum grade for any course. 2. NO, you can't go for NYSC without doing internship, infact it is a prerequisite for camping, permanent license will still be requested in camp which you can't provide if you haven't done internship. 3. I think it is just licensing exam that is done don't know much about this. Others knowledgeable in this aspect will shed more light |
Remisol:I didn't go through your profile. You mentioned earlier in the thread that you studied MLS but not in naija |
Remisol:10 years ago ![]() |
Lordmykel:I don't think she is still a student ooh. Glad to find alot of colleagues here, repping Uniben, FYB (as soon as ASUU finish their madness ) |
Jagabanmonerry:you can register for ICAN even with BSC in block moulding and carpentry.lol Anyone can sit for it just google more on it |
BCH and MCB are nice courses that have been rendered useless in Nigeria because research Institutes are not there, the FMCG, breweries, pharmcueticals, production companies are few compared to the number of graduates churned out yearly. That is why in medical field the number of students admitted are restricted to avoid producing graduates without corresponding number of available jobs. And I respect biochemistry graduates, cramming those pathways is no child's play but the truth is where are you going to apply it? And those in microbiology still nursing the ambition of working in hospitals and health facility, the truth is there is no place for you there, MLS has medical microbiology as a specialty. For those that are still young with burning brains in MCB and BCH you can write ICAN and convert to Accounting, take up courses in IT (programming, web design, graphics design and photography etc) don't just give up saying there is no Job, you must not work in your line of discipline. Banking recruitment is always open to all with good grades and within the age. For the Jambites, better take up any professional course in medical science or you go for social sciences and management courses. |
TRAILBLAIZER:forget Harper, Leningher,Lippincoot and others, any of them can serve but focus on materials your lecturers give and use textbook for clarifications when you are stuck, BCH you need to cram alot and you may be reading out of point with just textbooks. Get handouts lecturers give they are usually what they set in exam |
aieo:Amosquito I hail u. No bother ask who be this, I no go tell u ![]() |
drealzum:you don't know what you are saying, most pharmacy students are even working from Final year b4 graduation. It is the most readily employed healthcare profession even before nursing or medicine. Am neither a pharmacist nor pharmacy student. Most community pharmacies don't even have full-time pharmacist but auxiliary nurses as pharmacists prefer going into the pharmaceutical industries.. |
arinzos:you are definitely on track, infact you are lucky to have transferred, in my school (uniben) there is no transfer to Medlab. I have classmates who came into through Direct entry after 1st degree in microbiology |
Elshberry:DELSU does not have Medlab yet, only Nursing, pharmacy, medicine are the professional courses in college of health science. |
anthney87:did you even read the previous posts before typing? Even the curriculum of both have been presented side by side. Don't deceive Ignorant ones, biological research is different from routine diagnosis for treatment. Those who have read both SLT and MLS have presented unbiased facts above, you can believe what you want to |
Chidimercy:it depends, if you have a laptop and data you can start learning on your own from LYNDAdotCom, and also from the graphics designer in the press too if there is one as some printers may not have a graphics designer but outsource the design to some guys who run graphics 24/7 |
sgtponzihater1:Also, Just few months back, university of Benin basic medical sciences faculty had a lecture series which was delivered by a physiotherapist who is THE HEAD OF NEUROSURGERY! ! In United States with all neurosurgeons under him (a non doctor head of neurosurgery, can't happen in naija, never) most of the consultants from UBTH were there, even the Dean of medicine, some got angry and left after he washed them on how they hinder growth of Nigerian healthcare by claiming it is their right to occupy all top positions even when they know it is not so. Many of them are well traveled and see how things are done in saner climes but once they come back home, they feel everyone should worship them.... Healthcare is now patient centred and doesn't revolve around the doctor anymore |
sgtponzihater1:unfortunately the modern day "jargons" is being championed by WHO with Doctors at the head of almost all their agencies and units. So it is not a Nigerian thing. I was reading a medical students blog who was sharing his foreign university exchange in US and he wrote on how the Multidisciplinary team(doctors, nurses, pharmacist, MED lab scientist, social workers) review each patients case together in a group discussion and each Person talks about the challenges, possible solution and other areas that will be of benefit to the patient but in Nigeria most doctors especially the "big consultants" wont even allow other healthcare personnel access to patients details let alone discussing the way forward with non "doctors" |
daprim:nice decision, most schools hardly take MLT for DE because admission is given by the University and JAMB and not the department, any MLT who really wants to advance career wise should be planning on going for BMLS. Same way most RN are now coming back for BNSC |
sgtponzihater1:yea and that is why antibiotics resistance is on the rise, you don't just prescribe an antibiotics except for emergency situation without an MCS result, why then do you need the MCS when you can just fire the patient with heavy dose of antibiotics? Nigeria is still a developing nation but we can at least follow international guidelines for optimum results. |
Goldenboy333:In life you must pay a price to reap the reward, people spend 8 years plus studying medicine, some after their first degree of 5years go back to read pharmacy for 5 or 6years again. It boils down to what you want. 7years is not much, infact you will only suffer(classes, practicals, clinical postings, exams etc) during 5years in school. By the time you are doing internship and NYSC you are reaping the reward of your labour and you can even start a family as an intern if you wish. |
HaidarAliyu:Most don't except for universities I may not be aware of,universities don't even accept MLT(med lab technicians) again for DE except those with BSC in biological sciences. Your best option is through UTME but as suggested earlier contact those in the school you intend applying to for firsthand information |
Printing is a lucrative and tasking business, I worked in a press for about 6months during 2013 ASUU strike, first don't just go and open a press which is capital intensive anyway but first learn from a printer. You can work in a small printing press which has at least one machine for running impressions. Learn graphics design cos that is where customers will definitely come from, you can run digital separation, impression, finishing in separate places without having any machine but just your laptop to design a beautiful work for the client. Costing of jobs is something you will learn from working in a press.. So I would advice you to look for a printing press to attach yourself to the smaller the better because big ones will have a secretary who does account, manager who costs job and numerous workers so you may not really learn anything. |
