Omo!!! It's been a while o... Countless PMs, people mentioning me. In case you've been wondering why I've not posted anything in a while. Kai, I swear I've been on a long thing since sha. I've been seeing one side of America since August 5th, them don show me the other side! oh boy! Now I know what people mean when they say things are hard here. I don't even have time for myself anymore. Everything is so expensive here, I feel like running back home. Now I miss Naija badly... all the cheap things I used to take for granted. I miss them all. I have not saved $1 since I got here. assignment wants to kill me, Girls sef... they've been pretending. I never kiss any babe for 2 months. Shey na my 5ft 7" Carribean colleague for work wey carry hips and yansh like mermaid? abi na the exam wey I get 23/100 (every other person in the class failed too) and the lecturer give us our exam questions back say make we go redo am for house over the weekend and I later get 84/100?

As I'm typing now, I'm looking forward to my 4pm work shift lol... I can't believe I'll carry my fingers to write one day that I can't wait to be at work! na only me and the babe dey always dey work on Thursdays... 5 hours of flexing work. This babe fine no be small, I get so jealous when she dey attend to male customers sef cos na so she go dey laugh, dey follow them play like say... mtchewww but when customer no dey, omo... she dedicates all her time to me her work.

I'll be back soon to give you a more detailed "transcript" of my story so far. Maybe after work today cos school is on break tomorrow (If anyone's interested). Finally, I salute @lagosismyhome @walspring @oludare01 and the other efikos. Good job advising people. The reason I don't touch the academic side is cos you say enough. Professors are busy people.

You aren't the only candidate. You're one among thousands.

If you don't forget those two lines above, then you'd be fine sending emails to profs as per grad school admissions. If you've sent emails to 10 different profs, and you haven't gotten a reply, then you can be disturbed. Maybe then you'll need to take a look at the emails you're sending. But, I'm going to go ahead and assume you're sending research-ready emails that profs would wanna read. And say that don't expect a reply this early.

The prof might not be checking his email, might not currently be accepting students, might be sick or out of town, might not like your first name, or might think your GPA is too impressive to be true! You get it. It might be one of so many reasons, that you should try to spread your net wide. Keep sending quality emails to profs in different schools, and you'll be boosting your chances to get favorable replies.

And if you can't get through to the prof, try emailing the departmental graduate program secretary or someone similar. This, again, is not guaranteed to get you a response. It might end up in his/her spam box. Truth is, contacting someone for the first time is usually the hardest part. Once you can break in, it gets easier after that. Motivate yourself with this, and keep sending, brova.

I've gotten a reply from the professor self,he gave me a number to call him and make appointment.....

Prof Oludare01 sef haff join gang. I just pray I'd be able to lend a hand too when I finally cross borders and begin grad school in January (by God's grace) Amen.

it really depends on the what the job is , the budget and conditions...... for example some oncampus jobs are centered when student are in school (ie some resident life jobs) so even if you wanted to work during holiday it might not be possible if the hall is closed .or working for a professor , you might want more hours during holiday and he wont have the budget to accomodate it .......... So this is a very open ended question..... however if the job has a budget and conditions that allows it the rules are

You are allowed 20 hours during term time and 40 hours during holidays
