There is a difference between conducting a scientifically sound research and giving it a non-biased interpretation. It's absurd anyone links religious belief to IQ and then try to make it look like it's a cause for lower employment status.

By the way, what research shows now is that emotional intelligence (simply put: ability to efgectively work in and with a team) is the real predictive factor for career success not intelligence quotient.

RATIONALIZATIONS: This is a favourite mechanism of atheists. It is simply the reliance on logical-sounding but false reasons to negate reality. Atheists will offer countless “logical-sounding” reasons why God does not exist, or why atheists cannot accept the existence of God. They are very creative at doing so, and they specialize in using pedantic language to sound convincing to others and to themselves. How do atheists use defence mechanisms to deny God

REPRESSION: This mechanism entails forcing painful material into the sub-conscious unconsciously. The atheist who uses this mechanism is not aware of it. All of existence shouts out, "design." Every little detail in nature offers evidence of the Artist’s touch. One only has to stop, observe and see that we are not surrounded by the grotesque, but by beauty, unity and harmony. The atheist mind will not stop and observe and see the connection. If they do stop to look, they will acknowledge the art -- but not the artist.

SUPPRESSION: Suppression is similar to repression, but with one exception: it is conscious. Science is continually offering evidence of intricacy and brilliance on the Creator’s part. The concept of design is daily being reinforced by all the sciences. Accepting the evidence for former atheist, Anthony Flew, may have been painful at first, but he finally accepted the glaring reality. Most atheists will not. They will consciously “reject” the evidence, without any fair and sufficient analysis.

DISPLACEMENT: This mechanism has to do with transferring feelings from one deserving object to another undeserving one. As explained above, many Atheists are angry and hurt, because of abuse or mistreatment by authority figures, parents, religious people or religious leaders. In time, they transfer their anger to God who allowed the events that caused their pain to take place. The end result of this mechanism is to abolish what they see as the ultimate source of their pain: God.

None of the theists ever thought that the only way, to disprove the study, was to bring forth debate or arguments, that are based on critical thinking and reasons. Better still, they could bring forth studies that disprove this particular study been referenced.

Rather, they went down the path of infantile emotions, pettiness, court jesting and illusionary gloating.

I spared them the space, so they could give a robust display of their intelligence level. And true to their limited capacity, the level of their displayed intelligence, agreed perfectly with the findings of the study.

NL theists are good sample of religious folks, when testing the validity of studies, on the inherent basis for defining religion as irrational and idiotic idea.

Illiteracy and lack of quality education is a big sin. I look forward to seeing Nigeria and Africa to be as developed as USA and Germany. I still maintain my reservation as regards matters of race. We Africans have a big problem of illiteracy, greed as regards our perception of religion and God factor, but its unfortunate we take advantage of each other's ignorance.

I tell people, that when you look for lies, u will get lies in return. I don't want to mention names. The white man knew we Africans are fetish and believe in myths and folklores that's why we were handed religion. we have turned God to money doublets, liers looking for lies. Christianity, Islam and Traditional Religion, may God save the sin of these world.

I believe someday The light of Quality Education will shine on Africa like it is in The USA, Germany and The Entire Europe. The first part of the first text presented to the children read:

(VI, 20, 21) And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword and the kings thereof he utterly destroyed and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.”
After reading the passage, the children were asked the following questions:

1. Do you think that Joshua, and the Sons of Israel acted right or not? Explain your view.

2. Suppose the Israeli army conquers an Arab village in battle. Do you think it would be proper to act against the inhabitants as did Joshua with the people of Jericho and Makkedah? Explain your view.

600 of the children expressed total approval of Joshua’s destruction of Jericho and the application of his methods to the Arabs. Only 200 totally disapproved while 200 expressed mixed feelings — either partial approval or disapproval.

The same children were then presented with a version of the same story taken from ancient Chinese history:

General Lin, who founded the Chinese kingdom some 3000 years ago went to war with his army to conquer them a land. They came to some great cities with high walls and strong fortresses. The Chinese War God appeared to General Lin in a dream and promised him victory, ordering him to kill all living souls in the cities, because these people belonged to other religions. General Lin and his soldiers took the towns and utterly destroyed all that was therein, both man and woman, young and old, and ox and sheep, and ass with the edge of the sword. After destroying the cities they continued their way conquering many countries.
Only 70 children among the group of over 1000 totally approved of General Lin’s methods. 750 totally disapproved while the rest expressed mixed feelings.

Why did a majority of the children support applying Joshua’s destruction of Jericho to the Arabs, while strongly rejecting the methods of the non-Jewish General Lin? Here are a few of the children’s justifications:

The Israeli army would have acted rightly if it acted towards the Arabs as Joshua acted towards the people of Jericho and Makeddah. I think so because if they would have left the people and the city, the Arabs would have invaded the city and fought them.

I think they acted well, as Joshua did, because the Arabs want us to believe in their idols.

Joshua and the Sons of Israel did not act well, as they could have spared the animals for themselves.

Joshua acted properly because the people who inhabited the land were of a different religion, when Joshua killed them he wiped their religion from the earth.

How quickly they saw the barbaric nature of the Chinese actions but never saw the same when it came to the biblical Joshua. This is what religion does, it clouds our judgment of even the most ruthless acts. Anything justified by God must be right, people have used this to justify slavery and in some cases genocide.

The Israeli youths might have actually had a fair excuse given they are supposed to be distant descendants of the biblical Jews. What's troubling is that I'm 100% sure that If this same question were given to Nigerian children with a fair Knowledge of the bible the result would have been more or less the same. They would see the acts of Joshua as good and that of the general as evil. Truly sad.

But what's even more troubling (I know right, what could be more troubling?) If this same poll was given to Nigerian adults the result would have again been more or less the same, rational educated Nigerian adults would have seen no problem with Joshua's actions. Even on this very thread I'm sure there are people that will defend Joshua and his sponsored genocide, because they were all taught religion.
And that is most troubling.

Christians, Muslims, Jews, even Secular Humanists set their sights on a positive set of principles that supersedes their own personal whims. This is good. This is healthy. By directing your energy toward overarching values to which you willingly submit, it acts as a check against the natural human urge to turn yourself into a god.

To say that your guiding belief system is atheism literally means nothing more than not theism. There’s nothing positive to focus on, nothing higher than yourself to which you can submit selfish urges. The process of fleshing out your own views is a process of constant rejection: I don’t believe this religion, I don’t believe in that form of spirituality, I don’t believe in that superstition, and so on.

The mentality of constant dismissal of other ideas can fester to the point that the sin of pride becomes your driving force in life. (I don’t think I’m the only one who’s noticed that there is a markedly nasty tone among many “new atheists” such as Richard Dawkins, PZ Myers, Sam Harris, et al whenever the subject of belief systems comes up.)

Craig’s entire project is bizarre—trying to support the sagging claims of God’s goodness despite that deity’s passion for genocide—but he gamely has a go. Craig responds to the question, “But wasn’t it wrong to kill all the innocent children?”

If we believe, as I do, that God’s grace is extended to those who die in infancy or as small children, the death of these children was actually their salvation. We are so wedded to an earthly, naturalistic perspective that we forget that those who die are happy to quit this earth for heaven’s incomparable joy. Therefore, God does these children no wrong in taking their lives.

What’s this supposed to mean?? Does it mean that Andrea Yates was actually right that she was saving her five children from the possibility of going to hell by drowning them one by one in the bathtub? Does it mean that abortion is actually a good thing because those souls “are happy to quit this earth for heaven’s incomparable joy”? I hope none of Craig’s readers have followed up with this route to salvation.
It’s hard to believe that he’s actually justifying the killing of children, but there’s more. Let’s fillet Craig’s next paragraph:

Ironically, I think the most difficult part of this whole debate is the apparent wrong done to the Israeli soldiers themselves. Ahh. I see why you created this thread. You completely missed the point of those statements. Ok, look at the modern world Christians. They are busy signing petitions to the white house against stem cell research. Telling us not to try to become god. That's ridiculous, imo. Do you know the different breakthroughs we could achieve if it was allowed? The possibilities are too many. That's exactly the point. Religion has stopped people from questioning the world as we know it. People like Galileo were afraid to report their findings because the church would be on their neck for invalidating the previous religious belief that the earth was the centre of the universe. People can achieve things, irrespective of their religion. But a problem arises when religion is trying to stop people from learning more. Most of the scholars you named did not create things that affected the Bible. The point isn't that 'atheism achieved more' because atheism is just unbelief in religion and nothing more. I am sorry I won't be able to reveal my real name. But every other detail I give are absolutely genuine.

If you were a FUTARIAN from 2007 to 2012 it's possible you know this radical dude typing this. Yes. I was a popular christian on campus because of my activities then.

I had formal Pastoral training from my home church with a certificate. (Don't want to name the church). That was before I got admission into
FUTA. We planted 2 new churches before I gained admission and was able to get the churches members before handing over to more experienced pastors.

Believe it or not, I have over 300 converts that I know of and had a book I wrote the names of my converts so has to pray for them everyday by name.

I am very sure the real number will be in the thousands, because this 300+ converts are the only ones I have their names written.

I stayed in Akindeko Hostel in my first year in Futa. I was one of those who did what we called "morning cry" everyday in the hostel. Usually from 6am in the morning. Preaching that people should repent for the kingdom of God was at hand.
I remember how I usually had clashes with the muslims at the mosque beside Akindeko Hostel.

I mean 7 studies that don't prove anything. U focus on these and ignore actual statistics that matter like d one that says atheists are averagely richer than theists, they are likely to be more intelligent and a higher percentage of them occupy top positions in the country.. In fact, thanks to a particular theist on this forum, I now know that as at 1998 only 7% of leading scientists have any type of belief in God. That was almost twenty years ago...

The knowledge or say details of the 'infinite wisdom of the manufacturer of the universe' is a product of the decision making based on man's finite wisdom.

What am I trying to say?

Atheist do come down from your high horses and learn that life is not as clearcut and defined as logic makes you feel. Christians have killed a lot of people and many practices are unfair and barbaric. Your fellow adherents have killed more people than christianity combined but we don't always feel the need to harp on this because our message of love doesn't always thrive in arguments and verbal conflicts but in humble acceptance.

Bottomline, if you are looking for reasons to disbelieve the bible, there are many. In fact there many in the bible itself. My advice to you is this... Should you stake your possible eternity on the infallibility of scientists and what they tell you?

Would you stake your life and eternity that some scientist in one laboratory in norway is 100% correct all of the time in things he says he knows about that happened thousands of years before he was born and he has only lived 70+ years?

Religious people go to work and school and do all the other things that non- religious people do. Can you tell me anything that atheists are doing right in this country that theists aren't doing? You've just said what has been on my mind for some time now.

A lot of people keep their cool because of their because of their religious beliefs. Take that away, and this world won't contain us anymore.

Everyone would define what is good and bad in his or her own way.

For example, Since there is no god( hence no eternal punishment), some people might think it okay to kill people for fun.

Just imagine a world where no one believes in any god; anything will go in that kinda world. Religion actually keeps the world in check.

The world operates based on the rules of religion. Although some of their rules are absurd, every religion preaches peace in one way or the other. And most people easily adhere to it because they believe it was set by one supreme being or the other. Now, If -- in a world where no one beliefs in a supreme being -- we humans decide to make a peace rule, it will not hold. No one would step down for anyone, No one would want to serve anyone and so on.

Religion is one of the factors that keep this world balanced. Take it out, and humanity is doomed!

Let's just leave people to believe what they want and try to be good people.

Religious People Are Suffering & They Need Our Help

People often ask outspoken atheists why they like to argue with religious people. "If you don't believe in God", they ask, "why do you spend so much time attacking people's religious beliefs?" They often respond by saying, "religious people keep trying to impose their religious beliefs on us through evangelism and politics, so we have to defend ourselves." Atheists who don't feel threatened usually choose to remain silent. I used to be a pretty quiet atheist myself, until I noticed something about religious people that I hadn't noticed before. Religious people are suffering!

Religion is not a harmless delusion. It's not a benign folly that merely wastes people's time. It's a malignant malady that systematically robs the majority of humanity of their freedom, pleasure, joy, comfort, knowledge, intelligence, health, money, lives, and much more. It would be selfish of us as atheists who are free from religion not to make every effort to free people from religion so that they can have much better lives.

Many religious people are not allowed to have blood transfusions. This means thousands of religious men, women and children have died from treatable medical conditions, such as pregnancies with any kind of complications, non-fatal car accidents, treatable gunshot wounds, etc. simply because they are not allowed to accept blood transfusions. So many children have become orphans needlessly; so many men and women became widows and widowers; so many fathers and mothers lost their children. All because of a religious rule that make no sense at all.

Many religious people are forbidden by their religions from enjoying most of the good things in life. Things like secular or instrumental music, fine art, poetry, sculpture, owning dogs, wearing make-up, friendship with the opposite sex, eating ram meat, eating sausages, pleasuring yourself or the opposite sex, watching fantasy movies or reading fantasy novels like harry potter, making friends outside the religion, dancing, tattoos, playing ludo because it relies on luck, barbie dolls, sexy clothes etc. Can you imagine what your life would be like if you had to forgo most of these wonderful things? Horribly boring. You'd probably kill yourself. I guess that's why many religious people are suicidal and violent.

Most religious people believe in the afterlife. As a result, instead of focusing on the current life and making it as enjoyable as possible for themselves, their friends, and family members, they often endure miserable lives in the hope that they'll be rewarded after they die. An extreme case of this is the case of suicide bombers and religious fighters who embrace violent deaths for the sake of an imaginary paradise.

Many religious people are pressured to give a sizable proportion of their income to the religious establishments they worship with. Poor people are taught that the best way to get rich is not to save their money and invest in education and entrepreneurship, but to "sow" it by giving it to their rich religious leaders who will use it to live flamboyantly, and build religious monuments to attract more cash cows. When this stupid idea of "sowing"doesn't make the poor people rich, they are told that it's because they don't have faith, have sin in their lives, etc.

Many religious people are made to believe that the secret to good health and healing is prayer, having been brainwashed by dishonest sermons and misleading testimonies. When they have health problems, instead of going to good hospitals, they embark on prayer and fasting. When their friends slump due to heart attacks or strokes or seizures, they start praying on them instead of rushing them to good hospitals where they can get competent medical help. People have died of curable diseases like malaria because they didn't accept treatment until it was too late.

Many religious people are tolerant and liberal by nature, but due to certain verses in their holy scriptures, they feel that they must be intolerant of various groups of people that God supposedly doesn't like, such as lesbians and transexuals. They are against abortion, which they think is murder, but also against sex education, which reduces abortion rates dramatically, because they think it may encourage premarital safe sex. As a result their daughters end up getting pregnant outside wedlock, having illegal abortions, and dying despite their opposition to abortion.

Many religious people are women, and it sucks to be them because the scriptures of the major religions are clearly sexist. One scripture claims that women must be quiet and submit to men because man were created first and woman came from man, which is rather suspicious because in real life it's women who give birth to men. Another scripture proudly asserts that woman are deficient in intelligence and piety. There are almost no female prophets, apostles or disciples. The few famous women in major scriptures are famous not for personal exploits but for giving birth to important men, marrying them, or leading them astray (Eve, Jezebel). Religious women can't live up to their full potential.

And don't even get me started on the horrible treatment of "demon-possessed" people (the mentally ill) and "child witches".

Clearly, religious people are suffering. Our parents, siblings, and children. Our friends, crushes, and admirers. Our colleague, bosses, and employees. To save them, we who are atheists must come out of our closets and start speaking out; challenging them and educating them.
