Politics / Re: Top 6 Projects In Northern Nigeria by Konquest: 4:03am On Apr 07
Opebiman:

Northern nigeria, a prominent area in the country, encompasses three geopolitical zones and is home to the capital city, Abuja, as well as the bustling economic hubs of Kaduna and Kano. Despite being the largest landmass in nigeria, it typically lags behind other regions in terms of development. However, several ambitious projects are underway in northern nigeria that are expected to catalyze significant transformation in the region.

Number 6, Abuja - kaduna - Kano highway.
This 375-kilometer highway links the Federal capital territory, Abuja, to the commercial hub, Kano, serving as a vital segment of the A2 road network. Its construction cost, totaling 779 billion naira, makes it the priciest project in Northern nigeria and the second most expensive road endeavor in nigeria's history.
Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, a new funding model has been committed to ensuring the timely completion of the final phase by 2026.

Number 5, Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline.
The Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline, spanning 614km, aims to link gas supplies from the Niger Delta through Ajaokuta, extending to the FCT, Kaduna, and ultimately Kano. This ambitious project carries a price tag of $2.8 billion, with approximately $2.5 billion financed by Chinese banks.
This project will massively boost industrialization in kano, kaduna and Abuja. Bringing them closer to the level of the southern counterparts.

Number 4, Gwagwalada power plant.
Situated in Gwagwalada, in nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, the Gwagwalada Power Plant stands as a significant energy infrastructure project, showcasing nigeria's commitment to energy diversification and sustainability. Using primarily natural gas, the plant not only reduces emissions but also ensures consistent power supply.
Spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, this project integrates with the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline. With a $2 billion investment, this pipeline seeks to transport gas from southern to northern nigeria, further strengthening the nation's energy infrastructure.

Number 3, Kaduna - kano rail line.
A new rail line linking Kaduna to Kano is under construction in Northern nigeria. This segment is part of the larger Lagos-Kano rail project, connecting the Lagos port to Kano. Spanning approximately 203km, the rail is being constructed by China's Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC). It features a double-track system to accommodate higher train traffic and facilitate easier management. The project's estimated cost is $1.2 billion.

Number 2, Kano maradi railine.
This ambitious rail project in nigeria carries a staggering construction cost of $2 billion, covering 285 kilometers to link Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, and Maradi in Niger Republic.
overseen by Mota Engil, this is the most expensive rail project ever built and set for completion in 2025.
These rail lines are expected to revolutionize travel between major northern Nigerian cities and form a crucial part of the broader Lagos to Kano rail initiative, enhancing connectivity from Lagos port to Kano and extending to Maradi.

Number 1, Abuja metro line rehabilitation.
The Abuja Light Rail is West Africa's first metro line, consisting of two phases. Phase one, launched in 2018, covers 45.24 kilometers, connecting Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to the city's central business district. Phase two is set to further expand Abuja's coverage.

Despite challenges, including a suspension of passenger services in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The FCT minister is dedicated to rejuvenating the rail system and completing subsequent phases.
The planned network spans 290 kilometers across six phases or lots, with construction completed on Lots 1 and 3.

[With open minded you will agree that there is need for the coastal road the same way the government is putting finishing touches to Lagos Abuja Super Highway

1 Revamping of Ports in other parts of the Country: The ports are presently being advanced for PPP concession arrangement and such the best will be to move to another line of development.

2. Wharf and Tincan : With the connection of Apapa port to the railway line connecting to Ibadan, the dry port in ibadan has been activated and already in use. There cargo coaches moving containers to Ibadan daily and freeing up spaces for more clearance. This is part of the reasons the IGR has increased of geometrically.

Do we need the coastal road? in my opinion, YES because it will create many opportunities in that corridors. The coastal communities have been long abandoned thus starving them of the needed development.

The coastal road will help farmers in Ondo, Ekiti, Edo, Ogun, Osun and part of Oyo States to move their farm produce to Lagos deep sea port in Lagos . Because of lack of storage facilities for aquatic products, the coastal road will avail them nearness to the cities and access to more customers.

Is the cost too much? NO because it will the ND the needed motivation and sense of belonging in the project nigeria. Dont forgot there is no railway lines linking the ND or SE to other states or regions. The East West road has become a scourge and lost the ephoria that greeted the commencement.

That road when completed will generate more revenue to the FG and state governments in that axis.

quote author=Believeintruth post=129297340]

The project makes no economic sense. I feel it is covert way to let FG to the coastal road instead of Lagos State government. in hindsight you want to do a road to link Lagos to Calabar and put trains to move goods to calabar, when there are ports in Calabar, PH and Warri in need of revamping and expansion to be like Apapa Ports. That trillions can be put to use expanding those ports and turning nigeria to a huge maritime hub servicing Niger,Chad and Central African Republic. Right now the maritime hubs of West Africa are Ghana and Cote D'ivoire and these guys have already gone automated with their ports. Right now it is 5 times expensive to move your products from the wharf that shopping it in to the country. That alone is not good for business. Why can't they open and expa d other ports this is question that people have been asking. The road economically is not the best it is a waste, the ROI will not be good for the country.[/quote]

Imagine if the British colonialists decided to replicate what they did in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Canada in nigeria by mass importing their own people to displace us in nigeria .

Imagine that we in nigeria are now relegated and confined in tiny spaces with little or no resources while the British get most of our land and resources and that the British began a systematic silent genocide on our population using biological agents and other dubious means to reduce our population .

Imagine you are living in one of these crowded destitute ghettos in the current time.

Imagine the British settlers now tell you to your face as their fathers told your ancestors that the land is not yours but theirs by virtue of some Anglo-Saxon folklore and that your attempts at reclaiming the land of your forebearers is nothing but terrorism .

Do you really think this can happen with electricity.? As we speak they have cunningly increase bill across all bands. I usually pay between 20 to 25k monthly in my business place, but today's bill was a whopping 80k for a band D customer. You see how criminally minded they are? FG gave them an openly cheques to steal nigeria blind

The thing is, we don't have much of a choice. Electricity in nigeria is going to cost a lot of money to fix. Money men and women won't lend money to the sector without expecting return on investment. Serious investors won't enter the market unless they can see return on investment

And they can do that if the sector is allowed to charge a cost reflective tarrif.

It's effing unfair, I don't like it, and I wish there was another way. And even if we spent 90 billion for Hajj on building 9 geometric power stations all it means is 9 cities get power , then the maintenance and expansion costs come in.

I effing wish there was another way. But here we are.

The unfortunate fact is the Governor awarded and is aware of the Cobra called road. The government media is even proud to post it online. My opinion is if in 2024 we still have a government which derives joy in constructing semi-substandard road and publish it online as an achievement, that means our process of choosing leaders in this country is fundamentally wrong. Something is seriously wrong with us. With Nigerians.
I'm really surprised by your summations here which is very revealing.

I know the Governor of Kwara (who is also a USD multimillionaire (billionaire in Naira) oil and gas mogul and the son of AbdulGaniyu Folorunso AbdulRazaq, the first ever lawyer in the whole of the Old Northern Region of nigeria) to be a well-traveled man haven lived in the very well-planned West African city of Abidjan in Cote d'Ivoire and other well-planned cities worldwide. I don't know whether lethargy has set in for him but he should realize that history will judge him badly if they do NOT reconstruct that road crooked in Igbaja with proper covered drainages on both sides.

The Governor of Ogun State (Prince 'Dapo Abiodun) too is a USD multimillionaire oil and gas mogul, yet the folks in Ogun have been screaming offline and offline about bad roads, although he constructed some roads in his Ijebu area of Ogun East in his first term. I'm beginning to now think that sometimes, having some super-rich people as Governors might NOT lead to quick development and innovation if that person is NOT motivated or hungry enough to be of service to his society... Even though these 2 men are successful oil and gas moguls.

The indigenes of Kwara and Ogun States and even lovers of development really have to embark on online and offline "naming and shaming" of these Governors and their Commissioners of Works for doing a bad job in terms of roads and infrastructure.

What is the use of linking two port cities? Is it that a particular kind of commodity cannot be shipped by one particular port city so there needs to be a road linking the two? Please I want see the sense in it. That money should have been used to expand those ports to the size of Apapa and thereby make them modern with automation involved to reduce bottlenecks. The have a train track linking them to the Nigerian hinterland cities and south east. That way nigeria becomes a transit hub for shipping linking West Africa to Central Africa. The problem is we have leaders that cannot think far. As we speak the maritime hub of West Africa is Ghana and Ivory Coast even Cotonou we have lost so much shipping opportunities to them.

Politics / The 100 Lucky Days Of Gov Lucky Aiyedatiwa Of Ondo State by Famola23: 12:27pm On Apr 06
*THE 100 LUCKY DAYS*
Highlights of the achievements of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa

On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, was sworn into office as Governor of Ondo State and 100 days later, the people of the Sunshine State are beginning to feel the positive impacts of his administration.

WORKERS WELFARE
Governor Aiyedatiwa has earned himself the title of a workers-friendly governor due to the premium he has placed on the welfare of civil and public servants in the State. The Aiyedatiwa administration in January paid the January 2017 salary arrears owed to the Civil Servants and in March he paid three months’ salary arrears of the staff of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo. This came just two months after he approved the release of N850million to the institution to shore up its subvention. The administration has also emplaced a culture of prompt payment of salaries as and when due.

The monthly N35, 000 wage award to public servants to cushion economic hardship is one of the highest in the country, while civil servants also enjoy free shuttle buses to relief them of the cost of transportation to and from work every day. Aside regular payment of pension, the government also pays N10, 000 wage award to all categories of pensioners in the State. in the same vein, over N1.5billion has been disbursed for the payment of gratuity in the last three months.

EDUCATION
The education sector is set to witness a rejuvenation with the ongoing recruitment of about two thousand teachers into public schools to rescue the sector from acute shortage of teachers. Also, the State Government released the sum of five hundred and fifty million (N550,000,000) for the payment of 2024 WAEC fees for students in the public secondary schools to alleviate the financial burden of parents and guardians.

The free shuttle school buses and boats for school pupils are also running across the State, in addition to the ongoing process of rehabilitating hundreds of public primary schools in the State. Tertiary institutions are not left out too as the Governor recently approved N1billion for the construction of a new Senate Building for the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo and another N1.2billion for the completion of abandoned projects at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa.

INFRASTRUCTURE
The Aiyedatiwa administration has made the provision of infrastructure and social amenities a priority. When he came on board, the Governor ordered all contractors back to sites while also ensuring that they are paid according to the stages of work done. This injected life into all abandoned projects in the State. Those road projects now getting attention include Oda road dualisation, Ijoka road dualization and the Irese/Shagari Flyover in Akure, Owo dualization, Igoba road construction, etc.

in addition, the Governor, in February, flagged off construction of rural roads across the State to help farmers with easy transportation of their farm produce to towns and cities. The first phase of the project cuts across the three senatorial districts of the State at Oda-Cocoa Board-Langbodo in Akure South LG in the Central; Ode-Omi-Ebute Iyara in Irele LGA for the South and Ifira Akoko-Afo in Akoko South East LG for the North. This is just as the Ministry of Infrastructure last week flagged off filling of potholes on major roads in the State. Also, there is ongoing rehabilitation of 60km selected roads with asphalt-overlay across the State while potholes on all major roads are now being filled.

The first phase of the Light Up Akure project has already taken off with major roads in the State capital now illuminated at night. The Governor is also working hard to restore Akure, the State capital, to its old status as one of the cleanest state capitals in nigeria. Towards this end, the newly launched Operation Keep Ondo Clean initiative has recorded significant improvement in the waste management in the State in general and the State capital in particular. The Operation Flush initiative is also being rebranded to ensure that channelization is carried out well ahead of raining season to prevent incessant flooding.

EMPLOYMENT
While the Governor is promoting the welfare of workers, he is also focusing his attention on providing employment opportunities for the teeming young people in the State. in February, the Governor approved the release of employment letters to 165 newly recruited staff of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS). About 100 health workers were also recruited by the Civil Service Commission while the process is currently ongoing to recruit additional 600 health workers.

in the face of challenging economy, the administration continues to increase human capital of its citizens, steadfastly running the race to make Akure the tech capital of nigeria. The government this year began equipping its youth with the necessary skills to thrive in evolving landscape. 618 participants were trained and empowered in February. Also, 10 most innovative young entrepreneurs are being empowered to the tune of N3m each while the Governor also approved an Entrepreneur Summit for young people to hold this month.

Since when did we start spending dollars in nigeria that the government will be using dollar as benchmark to charge electricity bill.

Pay workers using dollar rates and charge accordingly. Unlike developed economies, nigeria is still blessed with insane resources which are more than enough to power our cities and still be charged based on our income as a people.

Just so you know,we have gas, solar, oceans for wind and coal plus water for dams.

The masses are made to pay for the incompetence of the government. When government was embezzling the funds meant for the power sector, the masses were not party to it. So why should the masses made to pay.

Just before you think you're not affected because you are currently not in band A, your power provider can decide today to upgrade you against your will and you will be made to pay the insane rates with your meager income
