Our liver is in charge of a number of vital bodily activities. It can cause serious harm to the body if it becomes infected or injured.

Any alteration in the liver that can cause illness is known as liver disease (also known as hepatic disease). It’s a wide word that refers to any issues that could cause the liver to malfunction and impede its function.

In general, if more than 75 percent of the liver tissue is damaged, liver function suffers.

1. Jaundice.

Jaundice is the most common symptom of a liver problem. Your urine may appear darker, and your skin and eyes may appear pale and yellow if you have jaundice.

Bilirubin accumulates in the bloodstream, causing jaundice. When red blood cells break down, bilirubin is formed as a pigment. Bilirubin cannot be absorbed or converted to bile by a damaged liver.

2. Fluid Accumulation.

Fluid buildup is one of the most prominent early warning indicators of liver disease. Cirrhosis, a disease in which damaged tissue displaces healthy liver tissue, causes it in 50 percent of patients.

Swelling in the legs and distension in the stomach are two common side effects of fluid accumulation. This happens when the blood pressure in your liver veins rises or your liver fails to produce albumin, a protein that prevents blood from leaking into the tissue.

3. Bleeding.

You may detect blood in your stool or vomit, as well as rectal bleeding, if you have liver disease. In most circumstances, blood flows through the liver like a car on a fast freeway, but when you have cirrhosis, the path becomes lumpy due to scarring.

As a result, the blood seeks for alternate routes. Blood may go to the spleen, which may grow to ease the congestion, and swollen veins may bleed quickly. A healthy liver can create clotting proteins, but it may not be able to do so if it is ill. As a result, there may be more bleeding.

4. Memory Problems.

The symptoms of liver illness include confusion and memory issues. Toxins may go to the brain if your liver isn’t capable of clearing them out. Memory loss, disorientation, drowsiness, and even coma are all possible side effects.

A woman was crushed by a falling tree in London as Storm Henk battered the UK with 94mph winds and heavy rain.

Firefighters had to help free the woman in Orpington before she was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

It came as residents in the capital were given an urgent ‘don’t leave your homes’ warning, with the latest named storm causing damage to property and triggering yet more travel chaos.

An amber warning for wind issued by the Met Office covered a central swathe of England, informing the public of possible travel disruption, roof damage and power cuts across southern England, the Midlands, East Anglia and Wales.

The strongest gales were recorded at the Needles Old Battery in the Isle of Wight, where wind speeds reached 94mph.

Gusts of 81mph were reached at Exeter Airport in Devon, and top winds hit 71mph at the Isle of Portland in Dorset and also at Mumbles Head in Glamorgan.

A broad yellow warning for rain was in place on Tuesday evening – leaving regions including East Midlands, East of England, London and south-east England, north-west England, south-west England and Wales braced for heavy downpours.

It stated: ‘Following recent wet weather, a further spell of rain, heavy in places, will move north-eastwards on Tuesday. 10-20 mm of rain falling fairly widely, with a few places seeing 30-40 mm, this on top of the overnight rainfall.’

According to him, the event held in Lagos on Friday, and was well attended by notable Nigerians.

Obi partly wrote, "Yesterday, I joined other very respected Nigerians at a remarkable event aimed at improving the reading culture of Nigerian children.

"The event which attracted notable personalities like President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed, Prof Hakeem Bello-Osagie, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Bella Disu, Ndidi Nwuneli, Chimamanda's husband, Ivara Esege, and others, was the unveiling of a children's book authored by my very dear sister and global icon, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

"The children's book titled, 'Mama's Sleeping Scarf,' was presented at the event tagged, 'Christmas Magic' in Lagos. The motive of the author was to help reinforce the reading culture among Nigerians, especially the youth and children."
