God-Messi sacrifised his natural playing position and started to play as a attacking midfielder for Argentina which they lacked since J.R Riquelme retired. Final loss wasn't his mistake. It was wrong tactics. None of the Argentine players are good in aerial balls. Still they decided to play long balls. That's why god-Messi was unable to find the ball in the midfield. Still he created a golden oppurtunity in the dyind minutes of the normal time. But his teammates were unable to convert it. Why should he take the blame for that? Also in the shootout he was the only Argentine who found the back of the net. Football is a team game. Whoever be you, without the support of the team you can't do anything for the team. If it wasn't for god-Messi, argentina wouldn't have passed group stages of the world cup, they wouldn't have played two finals in one year. Still if you are replacing god-Messi, u need to replace him with a better player. Can any of these critics find a better player than him? You made a very good point here.
But one of the major problems with the Argentina team and what really differentiates Messi of Barca and Messi of Arg is this:
All the players in Barca see Messi as the best, they keep possession and always try to involve him in the play. Xavi, Iniesta and co would decide to turn and turn to allow Messi enough space so that they can pass him the ball to do damage. They all see him as the best. But reverse is the case with the NT. Every player(Di maria, Aguero, Lavezzi, Pastor) want to show they are the best, they hold on to the ball more than necessary and would only pass the ball to Messi when they are in danger. Each of them believe they are better and would always want to show it.
Untill they play together as a unit and acknowledge Messi as the best on the field(even if Messi plays from defence, he would still wreck havoc provided he's allowed to play his game), they may never win anything.

ARG has all it takes to win the competition from defence to attack. Why they don't win remains a baffle to me. I remember Hugain won them one match but I hear he missed a sitter yesterday. Tevez may not be their solution because they have all they need in that pitch. I cannot tell what holds them back.

Maradona played with very good players who also. Acknowledged him as their leader and the best player on the pitch. They therefore played with him and and ensured he got the ball as often as possible.

But, Messi played with players who constantly wanted to show they are better on the field. Di Maria, Lavezzi, pastore would rather prefer to dribble 3-4 players than pass the ball back to Messi even when he's better placed. Messi passes the ball to them when they are free but they fail to replicate such gesture. Everyone wanted to prove a point and hence their failure.
