http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news-update/38100-oyo-farm-settlers-lament-attacks-by-herdsmen.htmlSettlers at Ilora Farm Settlement in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State have called on the government to come to their aid, following persistent attacks by Fulani herdsmen. They said the herdsmen, armed with double–barrel guns and cutlasses, graze animals on their farms and destroy crops. The settlers said whenever they challenged the herdsmen, they were beaten up and injured. The Imam of the settlement, Alhaji Saliu Ade Salami, said: “Many settlers have been victims of the herdsmen’s attack. My son’s arms were almost amputated after he was macheted by them. “We are living in fear, because any attempt to check these cattle rearers leads to threats to our lives. They invade our farmlands and destroy our crops, which are our only means of livelihood. We have reported them to the police several times to no avail.” Salami said some setters have relocated to other parts of the state because of the attacks. Vice-Secretary of the Settlers’ Forum Mr. Sunday Ojo said his hectares of cassava were destroyed and eaten up by cows. The settlers also accused past governments of neglect. Lamenting the deplorable condition of the settlement, Ojo said: “If adequate attention had been accorded the settlement, the situation would not have been this pathetic. Five years ago, the then government approved the electrification of the farm settlement in its budget. Till date, the transformer installed has not functioned. “The settlement’s only source of water supply is a well with a hand pump. We often search for water from streams and the river. “We do not have a maternity or health centre. We have one primary school. Though the teachers are dedicated, they come from town because there is no befitting accommodation in the settlement. “We urge the Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led administration to come to our aid and save our dying souls.” The monarch of Ilora, Oba Stephen Oparinde, declined comments. Oyo Area Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner Bature Umar, warned the herdsmen to stop disturbing the peace in the settlement. Umar said: “Henceforth, illegal possession of arms by herdsmen would no longer be tolerated. We will not allow anyone or group to take laws into their hands and unleash terror on others’ The settlement was established by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. It has 105 housing units and 30 shanties. The houses are in deplorable conditions and unfit for human habitation. About 700 settlers were estimated to be residing in the settlement, which is about 28 kilometres from Ilora. |

This followed the intervention of the State House of Assembly as part of steps to, nip in the bud, the annual clashes between residents and Hausa/Fulani herdsmen in the area, once and for all. A delegation of the lawmakers paid an “emergency visit” to the area, following reports that schools in the area “have been deserted by students and teachers for fear of being attacked by the Fulanis.” During the visit, the lawmaker representing the area, Hon Job Akintan and Caretaker Committee Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Mr. Kunle Elegbede, appealed to the people of Ibeku, Asa, Agbon and other committees affected “not to take laws into their hands.” He commiserated with the people of the community on the loss of their loved ones and some other properties during the attack. The Speaker, Rt. Hon Suraju Adekunbi assured them that the state Government was working on how to improve security in the area, so that, “the student can go back to their classes.” Narrating their ordeal, a retired principal, Prince Adeyemi Alase and Bale of Ibeku, Chief Olaleye Adigun, said a Geography teacher. Mr. Yomi Akinola and two students of the Community High School, Ibeku, were among those killed in the last three weeks, alleging that “women were raped and killed on their way to the farm.” In his own contribution, Adigun said the Hausa/Fulani cattle men became destructive and aggressive when they saw that there were no crops on the farms for their cows to feed on. He lamented that “they would go into people’s farms, tear down their barns and bring out the stored crops for their cows to feed on. “if any farmer whose crop was being stolen happens to come around, at that time, they would gun him down.” Speaking earlier, Elegbede had charged the villagers, “to be law abiding and refrain from anything that could tarnish the image of Ogun State and Nigeria, at large.” He assured that the administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun, “will do everything possible to prevent future occurrence.” |

Kobojunkie: Well, you do not have to agree with me. I have a serious problem with church people acting like a mob, even in this. Yes, 3 people were killed but that to me is still excuse for them not choosing to hand the man over to the authorities. It just does not help their testimony from the way I see it . .
I wonder what kind of testimony those who were spared will have now? That they thank God they were able to club to death the suicide bomber who changed his mind?
Anyways, I want to try to look at this objectively and not as a Christian, and I can tell you there is no difference between this and the many stories of mobs on streets taking justice into their own hands. I am for an investigation and prosecution of those who had a hand in this killing. The Bible says "Justice is mine, says the Lord!" . . . they made themselves God in this and so should face the music,as the Lord doles it out. Hand the man to the same authorities Kabiru sokoto (the guy that killed about 45 people in the madalla christmas bomb blast ) some how "escaped" from right ? LOL at the way some people reason . FYI the SSS and the "authorities" are uniformed rogues / boko haram , you can ask the Plateau guys they have lots of stories to tell you on how these terrorists disguise themselves with authentic / original Military personnel clothing to carry out their attacks (we all know how they got the Military clothing) , A military personnel's ID was also found in one of the scenes of these attacks on christians / Plateau villages . So you might want to think twice about this "authorities" you seem to trust . |

Ess: A 1,500-year-old Bible in which Jesus is believed to have foretold the coming of the Prophet Mohammad to Earth has attracted attention from the Vatican this week.
Pope Benedict XVI has reportedly requested to see the book, which has been hidden in Turkey for the last 12 years, according to the Daily Mail.
The text, reportedly worth $22 million, is said to contain Jesus’ prediction of the Prophet’s coming but was suppressed by the Christian Church for years for its strong resemblance to the Islamic view of Jesus, Turkish culture and tourism minister Ertugrul Gunay told the newspaper.
“In line with Islamic belief, the Gospel treats Jesus as a human being and not a God. It rejects the ideas of the Holy Trinity and the Crucifixion and reveals that Jesus predicted the coming of the Prophet Mohammad,” the newspaper reported.
“In one version of the gospel, he is said to have told a priest: ‘How shall the Messiah be called? Mohammad is his blessed name.’
“And in another, Jesus denied being the Messiah, claiming that he or she would be Ishmaelite, the term used for an Arab,” the newspaper added.
According to the report, Muslims claim the text, which many say is the Gospel of Barnabas, is an addition to the original gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke and John.
St. Barnabas is traditionally identified as the founder of the Cypriot Church, an early Christian later named an apostle.
Gunay said the Vatican has officially requested to see the book, which Turkey had discovered during a police anti-smuggling operation in 2000.
The gang was reportedly convicted of smuggling various items seized during the operation, including the Bible, and all the artifacts were kept in a safe at an Ankara courthouse.
It remained closely guarded by authorities before being handed over to the Ankara Ethnography Museum where it will soon be put on show.
A photocopy of a single page from the leather-bound, gold-lettered book, penned in Jesus’ native Aramaic language is reportedly worth about $2.4 million.
But skepticism over the authenticity of the ancient handwritten manuscript has arisen.
Protestant pastor İhsan Özbek has said this version of the book is said to come from the fifth or sixth century, while St. Barnabas had lived in the first century as one of the Apostles of Jesus.
“The copy in Ankara might have been written by one of the followers of St. Barnabas,” he told the Today Zaman newspaper.
“Since there is around 500 years in between St. Barnabas and the writing of the Bible copy, Muslims may be disappointed to see that this copy does not include things they would like to see … It might have no relation with the content of the Gospel of Barnabas,” Özbek added.
But suspicions could soon be laid to rest.
The real age of the Bible could soon be determined by a scientific scan, theology professor Ömer Faruk Harman told the Daily Mail, possibly clarifying whether it was written by St. Barnabas or a follower of his.

Kilode?!: I understand.
You see, that is why we need those in leadership to proactively act towards restructuring this country. No way we can sustain this situation where young women are forced to cheer on a mob lynching in church. Young men too.
These religious extremists are winning the war by making everyone be like them.
Our leaders don't seem to understand the implication at all. This will only get worse, people seem to have crossed a threshold that the govt is denying. Retaliatory self defense killings in church by church members? That is trauma. I Just helped you correct your post |

HERE IS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT SELF DEFENSE :
Exodus 22:2-3 2 "If the thief is found breaking in, and he is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt for his bloodshed
Luke 22:36, which says: " Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it,and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one
THE BIBLE DOES NOT ENCOURAGE VIOLENCE , RETALIATORY ATTACKS AND REPRISALS HOWEVER THE BIBLE IS 110% BEHIND SELF DEFENSE . IN THIS CASE Exodus 22:2-3 2 APPLIES TO THE DEATH OF THE BOMBER , HE WAS CAUGHT AND HE PAID FOR IT . MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE . END OF STORY |

floriana: Chaos in bank as woman bathes cashier with faeces February 26, 2012 · No Comments · By Ali Adoyi
The calm and peaceful first generation bank in Akure in Ondo State Capital (name withheld) turned to hell when a lady, identified as Sade, bathed a cashier (names withheld) with faeces while attending to her customer in the bank hall for purportedly snatching her (Sade) husband.
The peaceful and serene bank hall turned to hell as bankers and customers took to their heels after the woman rained abuses on the cashier and emptied the substance she brought into the bank in polythene bag on the cashier.
The assailant who beat the bank security pretended to be one of the customers, only to pour the smelly faeces on the busy cashier claiming that she snatched her husband. The stench took over the banking hall just as all the customers ran to the door to escape the odour.
It was gathered that management of the bank arranged for the cashier immediately to wash her body and to change to a new cloth after the incident.
A banker had stated thus “All of us, including my colleague who was assaulted, were busy attending to customers when the young lady came in and started raining abusive words on the victim, in an embarrassing way. She called her unprintable names and accused her of snatching her husband.
“We were shocked and we tried to shout her down only for her to open a polythene bag she carried, thinking that she wanted to make some deposit but what she brought out shocked everybody.
“She removed the bag containing the terribly smelly faeces which she instantly poured on her victim”.
Confirming the incident, the police public relations officer at the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, affirmed that the suspect has since been arrested and will be charged to court after due interrogations.
Adeniran, said, “The incident happened around noon on Friday and the suspect, who is already with us, came to Akure from Owo with a can containing smelly faeces which she poured on the banker.
“She will be charged to court after necessary investigations had been concluded on the case”. Filthy neanderthals |
