It was actually 100% sarcasm, you cannot judge my opinions based on words online- i was actually excited that someone shared my views on the abolition of tribal classifications- check through history, this has been one of the most significant steps towards civilization. Even the Ottoman empire which was a mesh of several cultures which later evolved into one national identity.

What we need is some radical leader to impose abolition of tribal affiliations- the major problem with this is losing our culture and heritage- but i doubt that is a great loss compared to the other repercussions that come from thinking of yourself as the "other"

I see these comments and I'm slighted and disappointed at what some of y'all are writing! my wife is a Yoruba girl and also my best friend, while I'm igbo. so when one says nasty things about the igbo's, I'm angry that he/she is insulting me and then when i see what is replied to the Yoruba person i also feel insulted that the mother of my kids was hit. The only solution of truly achieving this one Nigeria is for the government to cancel tribe in any thing official or proclaim that a child will be from the state where he/she is born. thereby a Yoruba or igbo or Hausa man will have an igala or benue or calabar child. lets see how he kills or ccriticisehis child.
Man, i would vote you as president if u were not igbo cheesy, This has been a solution that has been dear to my heart but i rily havnt mentioned it on NL because people would stupidly start deriding it. But this is the best solution to our problems- nothing else can solve this ethnic hatred

Congrats mate, i had a similar exam experience . I scattered the SAT verbal (ridiculously high score) and just barely did well in the maths section  (700+) but the reverse was for my GRE too. Bombed the verbal but perfect in the quantitative section. Although i had very arduous data interpretation and complex questions- not the easy crap u see on practice books, while the verbal was harder than i imagined. And I hate cramming words so i did not try.

All is good that ends well.

It is interesting that these stories occur more in nigeria and less in our neighboring countries. We must be the heart of darkness (no pun intended).

I was told to apply but god forbid i attend such a university. Abeg u want us to leave the kettle and jump into the fire? I agree though that it is a great opportunity because it is a free university. You should definitely try and make people aware of the school and the opportunities it offers them.
Politics › Re: I Pity Dora by SEFAGO(m): 5:33am On Dec 07, 2009
Even the Americans aren't as patriotic as that. lol it's ridiculous to me and I wish i could understand it.
Americans  might be patriotic but they are legendary for criticizing every aspect of their government. Nigerians criticism of every aspect of the government is required and important especially if you live things. It is disturbing enough that a woman is being paid a salary to rectify an issue that was caused by the same people paying the salary- it is now worse that this woman is not producing results.

Additionally, as i pointed out patriotism and criticism of the status quo are mutually exclusive, but we wouldn't criticize our country if we were not proud of it- or wanted something to be proud of. We have to continuing abusing and criticizing them until they start producing result. At least if u are going to be a thief steal 50% and do 50% results.

China is also suffering from massive corruption but who cares?, they are booming economically anyways, and that is what we want
Politics › Re: No Nigerian Citizenship For British By Marriage by SEFAGO(m): 5:17am On Dec 07, 2009
u asked what benefits can she get from nigeria since ppl get citizenship to get the benefits of that nation. i am clearing that up for u, some ppl get citizenship not for the benefits but to feel part of the country and contribute to that country, and like i said if u want me to give u examples, i will be glad to
agreed. no need for examples.
sefago, don't you think the above is a personal/relational reason enough?? Huh

and i don't think he was about to go jump over a bridge or anything. he was just shoked that there wasn't any provision for citizenship by marriage whereas, like you said, it is standard in most other countires. The OP is asking us nairalanders how to go about it/ getting citizenship for his wife.

to me, I sort of compare it to last name. when the wife takes the last name of the husband etc Tongue I dunno, if i'm married i would like to have his citizenship too.
I really don't know why she wants it either
agreed

trust me, i ask my friends questions about china and the way they reply almost seem like their replies are directly out of a textbook. They are extremely patriotic it can't be right to attribute it to just their recent economic upturn. Although the recent success have intensified the patriotism definitely.
As you pointed out "their replies seem to be directly out of a textbook." i bet these are mainland chinese people. The chinese culture is different from others is that they are very docile to rule and unwilling to actually protest a lot of government issues. Just talk to and ABC (american born chinese) and see how patriotic they are to china or talk to someone from hong kong. Chinese people dont like many things about china but they don't complain and don't criticize, they believe the state is more important than the individual.

This is an established aspect of Chinese culture- but in the Nigerian context, where we are prone to criticize anything that is done by the nigerian government, you cannot expect some pseudo-patriotism. If we feel somethin criticize it

it is not every1 that just goes to collect another nation's wealth, others like to just relate for a totally different reason and i got tons of folks i personally know that i can give to u as an example.
start by reading mine, and point out to where I said she was trying to collect the wealth of some nation. I was asking what the motive was, thats all i ma interested in. Agreed it might be visa fees and such but is that enough reason to give someone a passport. If she just wants to relate as you put it then I might as well get a US or Uk passport because i like British or American culture and really want to immerse myself in such.

I agree she has the right of a passport since she is married to a Nigerian. This is typically standard in most countries, but i am not asking about the legal aspects, I am asking about the personal one, and if its just a minor issue such as to totally relate, then why is her husband making such a big issue? If the husband is complaining about the inefficiency of the nigerian embassy in the Uk, then i will join him in complaining too because God knows i have seen hell in those god-forsaken places. But if he wants us to get teary-eyes about the fact that his wife brought up under butter and jam is unable to get a nigerian passport for a trifle reason like "to relate" and not something important like "to settle down and get used to her husbands culture for a couple of years" well he hasn't evoked any emotion from me.

stup1d question!
well na2day, i sorry bros if i vex u or if ur wife vex u, which ever one- but i think loving a country isnt a good reason for getting a nigerian passport- why do people get the passport of a country, to obviously get the benefits of having the citizenship of that country. What benefits can she derive in nigeria, no one would consider african or nigerian anyways? Does she want to start a business there? does she want to move there permanently?

I have seen strange things that science cannot explain and yet that does not make those strange things impossible or non existent.

I was shocked to see educated Nigeria laugh and dismiss claims of juju based bullet proof to the extent I only felt pity for them as the level of ignorance displayed simply because they do not believe is shocking.
And the debacle begins undecided

And i dont know what is going on and what has been said previously- but this I am 100% sure about

1) dora is not qualified for her job.
2) She has become a very corrupted product, considering the fact that all her children school abroad in 60,000 dollar a year schools.
3) she should carry dey go
4) Any rebranding efforts she is doing isn't helping- all my friends still always joke around that i shouldn't scam them undecided

If you have researched the situation in China, over the last 5 years, you would realize that the old COMMUNIST China is NO MORE. Why? Because the Government has mostly learned to TWEAK itself to fit in where the PEOPLE are. Not the other way around.
shocked shocked :oNigerians and their flamboyant and confident analysis which dont even apply to the people they are referring to. Anyways, tell the chinese people how tweaked their government is to their needs concerning issues like Taiwan, censorhip, the killing of minorities and so and so.
