^ thats true. Its pretty obvious. Even on college campus if you are going to find any black person in science or engineering it is going to be a girl. And if it is a guy- he is not native african american. Look at it from my perspective though- you can use this to pick up more girls ![]() |
No matter what black boys will always have swagger ![]() |
Dont forget Sir Arthur Lewis from ST Lucia. PhD at LSE: http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/economics/laureates/1979/lewis-autobio.htm NL in economics. Yes ooo, Africans dominate peace prize. We like peace sha, judging from our political climate |
And to those claiming that Achebe was the first to write from an African's view point, did Soyinka write from an Indian's perspective? Truth be told, Achebe is a great writer, obviously better then 99% of the rest of the world, but not good enough for a nobel prize. That is the truth! He will never win the prize. He is good enough. When I was a kind because of Chinua Achebe's books- I really wanted to be igbo because he presented such a beautiful scene of a people (not to sound cliche) steeped in tradition and culture, and I always wanted to be part of that tradition. I think Achebe is superior in depth and more intelligent than Soyinka, if I compare their works. However, I think Soyinka fit the profile of a nobel prize winner. Think- Achebe writes prose while Soyinka is a playwright. Nevertheless, To win a nobel you must do something unique in literature. While Achebe is good so is Camara Laye who wrote L'enfant noir (The black child). You think Achebe is good what about Leopold Senghor of Senegal. There are lots of prolific novelis in Africa especially in West Africa. You think say nigeria is the only country in africa sebi? Notice, how many African playwrights do you know? How many have created universal drama? Soyinka was able to infuse traditiional Yoruba styles of story telling into 'European forms of drama' to create something fresh and unseen. In fact the oyibo man's view coincides with mine: As already mentioned, it is chiefly the dramas that stand out as Wole Soyinka's most significant achievement. They are of course made to be acted on the stage, with dance, music, masques, and mime as essential components. But his plays can also be read as important and fascinating literary works from a richly endowed writer's experience and imagination - and with roots in a composite culture with a wealth of living and artistically inspiring traditions. Dear Mr. Soyinka, In your versatile writings you have been able to synthesize a very rich heritage from your own country, ancient myths and old traditions, with literary legacies and traditions of European culture. There is a third component, a most important component in what you have thus achieved - your own genuine and impressive creativity as an artist, a master of language, and your commitment as a dramatist and writer of poetry and prose to problems of general and deep significance for man, modern or ancient. It is my privilege to convey to you the warm congratulations of the Swedish Academy and to ask you to receive this year's Nobel Prize for Literature from the hand of His Majesty the KingSoyinka is unique but he is not better than Achebe. |
You dont win a nobel based on one book- its a collection of your work. I think |
shady's back, back again. Now every i.d.i.ot report to the dance floor, to the dance floor ![]() I am just passing by- ![]() SAY NO TO TRIBALISM ![]() |
Good post Physics QED- I have read the works of several of these literary figures and truth be told- they surpass Achebe in maturity and depth. Writers like Brecht's Threepenny Opera , and Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment (None of Achebe's books will ever touch the metaphysical questioning or intellect represented in this book) make several African writers even Achebe look like elementary writers. Nevertheless, Achebe's work is brilliant- I personally think "Arrow of God" was his best because it showed the tussle between two gods and how it manifested in the lives of ordinary people but too much focus has been on "things fall apart" because it extensively talks about europeans lol. He is likely one of the first authors who introduced philosophy into his works. The "things fall apart," "no longer at ease," "arrow of god" redefine what is good and bad and give a very different perspective from pervasive and sometimes suffocating western ideologies of good and bad. |

however it seems people have turned this to an ethnic matter- group think lol, so that is why you are reacting so abrasively |
haha, I would take the abuse- since I actually deserve it . I just wanted to make my own thread no vex. SInce you posed on it I am happy ![]() |
This is pretty obvious to a 3 year old with a brain disorder that this guy is a fraud. Real scientists dont have publicity websites |
Emeagwali is a talented fraud- why all the discussion about him? ![]() |
I never said LSU is a safety oo. Sefago no send you guys ooh. I just think you should apply to as many places as possible then leave the rest to statistical probability. I agree spread your legs around everywhere and include safeties- there are lots of options around the world. With your work experience you would have an edge anywhere you go. @Safeago, wer u @ all dis while, guess study has been great.Good man. Observing from the background. I talk too much, and I dont know it all lol. Several people here have displayed knowledge superior to mine especially dayokanu so no need for me to do much. |
Curious- is Citibank affiliated with Citigroup? From what I have heard- they were supposed to be? |
Maybe we should start looking at companies' annual reports before we go and interview there, just like when we want to buy their stock. If you want to secure your future, that might not be a bad idea. This is a good idea assuming the person is qualified enough to be getting multiple job offers from banks lol. Beggars cannot be choosers |
wow smart . . .but me too I got double promotion in womanology ![]() It sucks going to university early though- usually you might not have the maturity levels to do so. |
myforumid3, Thanks for the feedback. I guess am not too surprised about your comments on the GPA and GRE scores. What other safe schools do you recommend?
Include LSU for trial lol. I dont know many petroleum engineering safety. PET is very competitive |
i'm registering for the gre asap, and i want to register on my own to avoid all these horror stories, scams and dupes out there looking for a maga Grin. Its likely that these bad guys are not testing in Nigeria. They might be registering in Ghana. The ETS system is set up to make sure than no one requesting a Nigerian test center will be able to use a credit card. the TOEFL depends on teh school u are applying to. I think lots of universities might need it actually and are very strict on the requirement. I cannot answer most of your questions but why dont you try and pay with money/case? |
That is the point. It is not science at all but pure unfounded speculation. Even science itself is all about explaining how things work as opposed to why they exist in the first place.. . . for now. It takes years of work to discover something and the person who does so is of superior intelligence and tenacity. Explaining all phenomena requires a constant addition of knowledge. Later on some genius at Caltech would discover why space-time is curved and might even refine Einsteins relativity theory which for now has withheld from attacks. While you are of course still deceiving your self that Juju exists . You will not go and find something to contribute to the world lol. |
this thread is as gay as a justin bieber video. |
Juju is just like a religion, its an illusion. Damn I should have my own rap album ![]() |
Its not lady like to fart u knw |
First of all I ask you to ponder infinity and the infinitesmal. Just think about it deeply and meditatively. Then move on to infinite space-time. If youre done with that then you can move over to infinite love, understanding and wisdom. But does "it" exist? You have presented a thought experiment that could be true- yes a being exist that is unadulterated good, love, wisdom and understanding- but you have not proven his existence. Let me give you a paradigm from the classical china brain experiment. For example, if everyone in china (about a billion + people in population) organized themselves as a brain with each person being a neuron and acting like a neuron (the brain consists of a billion neurones)- would this create a conscious mind? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_brain You have not shown your link between logic and occurrence. Moreover, what dictates that such a pure being has to be the christian God- why can it not be Allah, Shiva or any of those sorts What makes your religion right? |
^ Yes, but I have the right to question the source of the faith. Faith without no source makes you no different from a zombie. Moreover, how do you know I am atheist. I just believe people must justify their beliefs, opinions, and ideas of sort. I am always indifferent to their ideas but at least you must have a compelling justification. I dont do right or wrong. |
to know some parts of the Bible, but you have chosen to use the areas that you feel like using while using them also out of context. For if you have taken time to read through the old Testament, you would have seen where God told His people exactly what will happen in the future - some as far off as 400-years, forewarned them and told them what they should do to prevent such occurrence and yet they choose to do the opposite and hence they have to face the consequence of their choices. Same thing applies now, we are allowed to choose knowing the consequences of our action or inaction, however, once we choose, we have no control over the consequence.Quick questions to all the religious people- have u ever bothered to learn the history of the bible or did you think it cam e from above- locked, stocked and ready? Science did not discover anything, but rather tries to find explanation for what has been created. Everything has been created, we as humans are trying to find out the mechanism of these creations and how we can best apply these intricacies to resolve other human problems.Creation is a primitive thought. The idea that we have to come from somewhere or be created by something is for only those with simple minds. If you want a better explanation how the universe can exist without a creator please go and talk to a quantum physicist. So then who created God? If you can assert than God is an independent entity that "can be" or exist without the support from another source, then it follows that the universe can also be such an entity (and its constituents) and so no need for God. Contradictory argument itself. 1. If God does not exist, then all the things that we experienced and see must have come into being by happenstance. That is not logical, the orderliness and the complexity of things around us, even some that up till now still defies scientific explanation, showed that there is a higher being that created this complexity and orderliness. The orderliness and complexity amongst us has been due to thermodynamics. I would assume that due to several random events that consisted of several permutations, the universe came to be. i.e several combinations of elements were made b4 an "ideal" fit was found. That is why the universe is so old. Trial and error to create complexity. Can people also explain how it is possible for scientists to display evolution in a test tube? |
^ Pure ignorance- Philosophy is the most intellectual of all disciplines. yes if juju is not logical then it does not exist. |
funny popularity contest thread ![]() People are awarding the rare quality of perspicacity to those who blow the most hot air. Anyhoo . . . |
People change style and sound a lot. I dont think she is trying to be that commerical. There was never really anything ultraspecial about her music anyways. On an international stage she will not likely reach stardoms anyways |
No matter how much she changes her looks she will still look kind of a lesbian. Just like tracy chapman haha I still like this song. Her best is probably jailer- nothin will get better than that |
Her song "be my man" has already being uploaded on youtube- decent- she sounds way tooooo much like amy winehouse |
she sounds a little bit like Amy winehouse but as usually her songs are wicked |
