If he didn't care to proceed to doctorate after his masters, then it's safe to say he wasn't even interested in the professorship. Again, you don't know if he even cared to do any publication. In the absence of these, even an honorary doctorate wouldn't have qualified him to be considered for the title. The truth is, not everyone is interested in the stress of fulfilling the scholarship assessment requirement (not less than 60 high impact journals). Some just love to teach and earn a living.
