Culture / Re: Yoruba Language Is The Most Influential Nigerian Language Outside Nigeria. by SegzyJoe(m): 11:17pm On Jan 08, 2012
In 1990 - 1993 alone my aunty helped recruited Yoruba teachers to Europe mostly Uk, then there high demand for yoruba teachers by the whites who thought Yoruba is the only tribe in Africa most populous nation. The truth be told, Yoruba language and cultural influence cannot be compared with any other Nigerian languages especially in Europe and Latin and American continents. This partially due to many factors among which are contact with lagos as port of call by most Europeans, Slave trade itself that saw many Yoruba taken to Europe and Americas, and the influence of Yoruba intelligentsia who have been working with intellectuals from European and America and Latin America countries. Again, Yoruba cherished their culture, this reflected in their names, they use more of their native name than every other tribes in Nigeria except Hausas. Unlike many easterners and South South that are at home using English names, even when Yorubas have baptisma name, such is relegated to the background.

Politics / Re: Don’t Emulate Me, Soyinka Tells Younger Generation by SegzyJoe(m): 4:20pm On Jul 16, 2011
@post
All you chicken hearted haters that sees nothing good in Soyinka even at his age. This is somebody that has made us proud during our darkest moment, someone that has placed Nigeria on the map of the world, someone who at a time is the only voice that the international community would respect, I remember during the military yrs, once there is a problem in Nigeria, CNN, BCC and all others will be looking for him to speak, and here the man is marking 77yrs yet at his age some people whose father were never known even on their street are sayin rubbish. sometimes i wonder how active this tribalism of a thing is so strong in our generarion, that except an individual is from our tribe we find it difficult to appreciate their life achievement. this is the only nobel laureate in our history and probably the first in Africa, yet some educated illiterate people are insulting him here, a man that is a worthy ambassador of Nigeria, a man the entire globe will choose to speak before choosing all former and present Nigerian presidents put together. It is a shame for this generation not to see anything good in Soyinka, it is even a worst shame to attempt to rubbish his achievements by no other persons than jobless, hopeless and frustrated youths parading Nairaland forum.

I think there is a fundamental distortion in the psychic of this generation, could this be a result of the failure of society that failed to instill positive values in their future leaders.
Politics / Re: Whats The Fate Of Obasanjo Now? by SegzyJoe(m): 11:18am On Jun 08, 2011
So many jobless youth on this forum. It baffles me how they get so much time talking about OBJ, a man that has seen it all - a full General, Federal minister, war hero, Chief of General Staff Spreme Hq, Head of State, President (twice), PDP BOT, head of many Int'l delegation among others yet, some youth who should be busy with their life if ever they could make it to be a commissional of LGA Chairmen in their states find it so easy to run their mouth on Nairaland.

My Advice to all OBJ haters, the man has come , has seen and has conquered. Some of you should just strive to be 10% of what the man OBJ is today and you will be the star of your family instead of come here runing your mouth against a man who is the envy of many go getters.
Politics / Re: Make Tinubu The Asiwaju Of Yorubaland – Group To Ooni by SegzyJoe(m): 8:19pm On Jun 06, 2011
@ Kasumoto
The earlier you accept the fact of yoruba history the better for you. If there is any title that has the appelation Yorubaland, there is only one king that can confer that title on any person, and that person is Aalafin - the "Iku Baba Yeye" Alase e keji orisa (net to the gods). You see, by distorting history the way you re doing it is just to refresh people's memory.

Let me ask you a question, why do you think evey other Oba in Yorubaland has never contested that headship of yoruba traditional paramount ruler with Aalafin? Do you think they don't know history? Let face the reality of our history, Ooni is far far away from Aalafin in status.

If you remeber, when Osun state was not yet created, Aalafin was the permanent chairman of the paramount rulers in old Oyo state untill when Ooni started challenging that permanent chairmanship, the struggle was so much that during state creation under the military Ooni and other agitated for a separate state.

The question is while does it take Ooni so long to realise that he can lay claim to yoruba traditional headship? My brother the truth must be told, in yoruba history and tradition, Aalafin has no  equal in status and royalty.
Religion / Re: This Is Not Another Pastor Bashing Thread! by SegzyJoe(m): 10:05pm On May 20, 2011
@Violent
It is not because you want to know how Oyedepo got his money that made you post this thread, it is because you want others like you confirm your ignorance and your dirty mind that pastors must steal to be that rich. From what u found out in your research, you confirmed that Oyedepo had a 50000 seater Faith Tabernacle, branches in every state of Nigeria, and in 63 other countries with 32 countries in Africa and others in UK, US etc among others. Now how many millions do you think his members are?

Again, in your findings , did you omitted the fact that Oyedepo is an author and a writer who has written hundreds of books, If as gullible as you re you can command fans of about 5million people globally that will not hesitate to buy your book, how much do you think you can make from that? And for a well sought after man of God like Oyedepo that has preached average of three messages per week for over 30 yrs and people are still ordering for tapes he even preached 10, 15 yrs ago, how much more the current messages, you think he should be poor? What of those whose lives he has touched, destinies and businesses transformed? You think they had be ungrateful like you to be researchin why men of God should be rich.

Now if people people like profs, and other speakers speaks theory and empty words that can not save a soul rather leads to death are paid thousands of dollars, how much more do men of God that speaks life and hope to a dying world. If all your advancement in medical sciences have left the world with more sorrow, pain and death, how much more the messenger of life, peace be greatly rewarded?

Do you think if church people are not been blessed by going to a church they will contineu to pay tithes and offerings, Some of you speak as if you were better than than everyone, as if men of God don't labour at all they just seat back and the whole world just bring their tithes and offerings, if it is that easy why have you not started your own church and make money and be rich like them or don't you want to have your own private jet?

Most of you on nairaland sometime display your ignorance in a shameful manner calling men of God lazy and other names, yet the likes of Oyedepo  sat down as an achitect and designed a 50,000 seater Faith Tabernacle without a single pillar in between, how many of you out there can do that, Adeboye, Kumuyi relinguishes very bright careers to serve God when there was practically nothing attractive about the church whether as pastor or follower except going to heaven, yet you people think God cannot reward His own people that have devoted their entire lives to His course?

Does God not created everything? visible and invisible? Does money and gold not belongs to God, yet you think men of God should be very poor, you re joking.

RCCG is in over 120 countries and every of those missions abroad will do anything to have Adeboye with them atleast once a year, yet he does not need a Jet to move around. I have said it before on this forum and am saying it again, these en of God are much more busy than many presidents of countries yet you see no reason why those president should not have Jet but for Men of God no way, ithink it has to do with ignorance or lack of regard for men of God or both.

You and your fellow travellers ain't see nothing yet, the church is going
Politics / Re: Alaafin Of Oyo To Ooni Of Ife: Mind Your Own Business by SegzyJoe(m): 5:51pm On May 19, 2011
@Dede1
Am quite impress by your knowledge of Yoruba History, am just wondering how kasumoto will be making a wide guess about events of a recorded Yoruba history. An history that is not a 1000 yrs old. It only shows that there are many Ooni apologists who think they can change history by mere wishful thinking, when all available books rarely mention Ooni as among the royal house of Yorubaland.

To buttress what you said earlier on about Awolowo AG, infact it was Awolowo and AG government that dethrone the father of this current Aalafin and drove him to exile where he died. This current Aalafin was schooling in London when he was recalled by the Oyo Messi to be coronated after much struggle with AG govt.

That is why Aalafin never supported any Awolowo inclined political party, it was also the same reason why when Aalafin made MKO Aare Ona Kakanfo Ooni went to court but he lost, in short Ooni was among the people that mastermind the destruction of June 12 mandate, where were these apologists when Students of Ife were waylaying Ooni while coming from his double dealing mission to the military government in Abuja those days of the June 12 struggle, at a time he had to run to Lagos.

The truth is hard to be told, in royalty, power and majesty as far as Yoruba race is concerned, Aalafin is supreme and Ooni is not even among the royal houses of Yoruba race, Ooni was not even a first class Oba in Yoruba land, Ooni is a political creation of the AG government, and it has ever been sustained by political patronage. Ooni title is a creation from the begining to fill a vacum.

I challenge any one to tell me the name of the seven sons of Okanbi the son of Oduduwa that became the Ooni of Ife. We know of Oranmiyan as Aalafin, Alaketu of Ketu, Orangun of Ila, of Onipopop, of Onisabe etc, who among these great sons of Okanbi was the father of Ooni, untill Kasumoto and his Ooni apologists could tell me without guess work the father of Ooni among these sons, then, I will think Ooni deserve a respect, but certainly not in the class of Aalafin. The current Aalafin and his dynasty has tradition and estbalished institutions for ages, that is why it is difficult for him to be buying political patronage for recognition, it is not in the tradition of Aalafin, it is only Ooni that need recognition, all Yoruba race knows Aalafin is supreme, infact the title itself was born out of the fact that Aalafin was the only palace of repute in Yorubaland, it was the only institution that was ascribed that title.

Politics / Re: Alaafin Of Oyo To Ooni Of Ife: Mind Your Own Business by SegzyJoe(m): 8:57pm On May 09, 2011
@Katsumoto,
I appreciate your sense of history about the Okanbi and other sons of Okanbi who were the main royal family of Yorubaland as you ve stated above which I quite agree with you, but what I find funny is your attempt to research an established fact of history about the possibility of Ogun being a son of Oduduwa or Okanbi. For any Yoruba historian, the seven sons of Okanbi as you listed above can not be in doubt, but as for Ogun, no established history has ever linked Ogun to Oduduwa or Okanbi, I tsnad to be proved wrong.

Again, Oyo camps were all over Yorubaland, as someone mentioned above, places like Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Ilorin, Ikoyi, Ijaoye, Ede, etc , this to protect the royal family just like the Romans, again to guide against ambitious heir to the throne (Aremo), the day Aalafin died, that same day the first son of Aalafin must die, it therefore becomes his interest the the Aalafin stays alive, these are two main mechanism to check ambitious first son and the Aare Ona kakanfo. Unfortunately, Afonja was from the royal family and he was made Aare, he eventually rebelled which was the begining of the fall of Oyo empire. It was the Ibadan warriors that defended Oyo Emprire from tthe Fulanis.

My concern here is the attempt to promote Ooni or equal Ooni to aalafin in Yoruba land, not even the other royal houses have ever equate themselves with Aalafin except Ooni on the auspices of being thr root of the Yoruba race, but we know quite well that none of the Okanbi sons stayed back in Ife, they all went out to to establish a domain for themselves.
Politics / Re: Alaafin Of Oyo To Ooni Of Ife: Mind Your Own Business by SegzyJoe(m): 4:21pm On May 09, 2011
@Remii
I quite agree with you, every son of Yorubaland knows that all Yoruba kings pay tribute to Aalafin including Ife. And just as every other Yoruba kingdom got independence from Aalafin, the same way Ife got independence from Oyo.

@OAM4J
Am not trying to downplay the significance of Ife in Yoruba history, infact Ife is the most significant root of the Yoruba race, but the truth remains that untill the early 1950s, the Ooni dynasty gained ascendancy
during AG government . Pls go and study history very well.

Ti bothers me the way this Ooni has been trying to change history just for selfish reasons. I challenge any Ooni apologist to tell me the name of the Oduduwa son that succeded Oduduwa in Ife.

History has it that the last born Oranmiyan went to war, on his return, Oduduwa had died and the other sons shared everything and gave Yorubaland to Oranmiyan for compensation not realizing it was a strategic mistake to give land to a warrior, so he lord it over them all and established an kingdom that became Oyo Empire.

Is it not insultful for Ooni to insinuate that Aalafin is still ruling over a dead empire, infact that man is a disgrace to Yorubaland. Has Ife and Ooni ever ruled over anybody, attempt to rule Modakeke resulted into bloodbath.
Politics / Re: Alaafin Of Oyo To Ooni Of Ife: Mind Your Own Business by SegzyJoe(m): 8:35pm On May 08, 2011
@post
How time flies, I never could believe that there would be controversy and arguement about superiority of Alaafin over Ooni, but times have changed greatly in the last one and half centuries of distortion. In the old times, Ooni could not even compared with other Yoruba king like Alaketu, Onsabe, Orangun etc who are the royal houses of Yorubaland of which Oyo was the centre of the Empire. What was the causes of the many Yoruba civil wars, was it not partly due to the harshness of the Oyo Empire tributarians? As in it came to a time when the reps of the empire were putting burden upon all other royal houses. All royal houses in Yoruba paid tributes to Oyo Empire. As a matter of fact each royal house in Yoruba land fought to get independence from Oyo including Ife, Ife was the least in militarily, it was recorded that Ife actually used wisdom to free from paying tribute to Oyo, because they were never a match for any war with a detachment of Oyo Empire armies located in Ede headed by Timi Agbale Olofa Ina, Ogbomosho headed by Elemoso and later by Soun, Abeokuta headed by Lisabi, Offa headed by Onikoyi, to mention just a few, all under the command of Aare.

I remebered around 1987, when Aalafin wanted to coronate MKO Abiola as Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Ooni went to court but was dismissed, he wanted to usurpe the power of Aalafin to install Aare in Yorubalnd, the court told him that it is only Aalafin that could appoint ne Aare for Yorubaland. The Aare reports to Aalafin, and they always live on the outskirt and not within Oyo City. We had such Aare as Aare Ikunrumi, Aare Afonja, Aare Latosa, etc. Infact Ibadan was a military camp of the Oyo Empire, the likes of Bashorun Ibikunle, Ogunmola were all Oyo Empire warriorss. Ooni was never in the picture, Infact Aalafin coronated all Obas in Yorubaland, there was no roaylty or royal family in Ife, that is why Ooni never had any crown nor was any Ooni in Ife ever coronated by Aalafin. Ife is significant for Yoruba as their origin but there was no son of Oduduwa that remained in Ife, all went out to seek new lands and established their domain.

It is unfortunate that OOni is arrogating power it does not have to itself. It was the main reason why Ooni opposed June 12 to deny Aalafin  the priviledge of been supported by MKO. Ooni was a political creation of the AG/Awolowo. The fore fathers of the current Ooni were exposed to western education earlier and they used it to promote the dynasty of Ooni. Oba Adesoji Aderemi was a minister of old western region, they used political powers to checkmate the Aalafin dynasty with conniviance of Awolowo, that was why Aalfin had never supported Awolowo, infact, Awolowo drove the father of the current Aalafin to exile to die in an island in Calabar. So pple should understand the enemity btw aalafin and Awolowo, the same reason why Aalafin supported Akintola against Awolowo thate led to Wetie of the wild wild west fame.

It is a distortion of History for Ooni to lay claim to any superiority over Aalafin, it is an abnormality and unfortunate. Ife has a special place in Yorubal history, bu never Ooni dynasty, it was a political creation and promoted politically.

You have presented the facts, but have failed to accept the truth. There is no quick fix solution that is enduring. You need a a quick fix, no attachment, committment, yet you want fulfillment, no way. That is the nature of quick fix. It won't last, its not enduring. Even if you guys come together, it still won't last because the foundation is faulty.

Lot of good advice have been offered you already, all you need is to look inward and face the truth.

Politics / Quattara Party With The Rebels Will Soon Be Over by SegzyJoe(m): 9:54am On Apr 06, 2011
Mosst people here are ignorant of situation of things in Cote D voire. the international community has no recognition for the sovereignty of African countries. Could you imagine Nigerian supreme court declaring Mr A winner in an election, and yet somebody in New York said he only recognised Mr. B. The body that declared Gbagbo winner is the highest ruling court in Cote D'voire, the equivalent of supreme court in Nigeria. Now the issue is not whether Quattara won or not, it is about respecting intitutions in the society, that is part of democracy, when US supreme court declared Bush winner in a world renown rigged election yet Agore did not take up arms nor did international community who are resident in New York complained. How come it was easy for them to disregard the highest court of Cote D'voire to proclaim Gbagbo the winner?

How many Governors do we have in Nigeria today who came to office by the instrumentality of the Court? Ameachi did not even contested at the polls, yet he came to office by technical instrument of law, what of how Uba was removed, what of Aregbesola in Osun, Adam Oshiomole among others. The question is why did Quattara not avail himself of civil means of seeking redress in court? Perhaps he would have done that if the so called International community did not over stepped their boundary and undermined institutional process of Cote D'voire by proclaiming Quattara winner, did Buhari not go to court against OBJ, even against Yar Adua? why can't this issue be resolved constitutionally, now that the rebels have brought in to power, they will soon tell him their terms which in no time will end the party, they will soon tell him he did not come to office on popular mandate, rather by the barrel of the guns, they will tell him how they help him rigged election up North, and with they same gun, he will be chased out of power

One good reason for you to go back there and vote is for you not to come back to Nairaland complaining about corrupt leadership in Nigeria. Go back and decide the outcome with your VOTE.

Though I didn't know this will become an issue on Nairaland, but everyday I listen to that advert on TV, I feel uneasy because I know pretty well that that piece of commercial is a deservice to Nigeria, and the most funny aspect is that Nigerians are involved to drive home the point.

I know many Tom, Dick and Harry on this forum do not know the implication of that TV commercial, so they may be pardon for not seeing that advert in its true colour but then those that should know will no doubt know that that commercial is an affront on our sensibilities.

There is a Youruba proverb that says" if you want a deaf man to hear an issue, all you need is to say it before/hearing of his children. Its quite unfortunate that she pick up that role, it is even more pathetic that all the censor organizations/ ministry of information did not see anything wrong in it. I bet it, no South African public will take such a commercial lightly coming from one of them against their country.

this actually looks like politics in your eye, i wish that kidnapped monarch was your father, may be you would have retained in your wicked heart a bit of human sympathy to the families of the kidnapped monarch and those that lost there lives in an attack that was obvious against defenseless people. Maybe you wouldn't see opportunity to insult a people. ethnic coward like you abuses privilege  of a faceless forum like nairaland to say what you dare not say in person.
Politics / Re: President Goodluck Jonathan's Approval Rating by SegzyJoe(m): 10:16pm On Feb 11, 2011
GEJ was not prepared for the office of the president. He lacks substance, character, carriage and intellectual capacity of a president. Luck has brought him this far, for the good of Nigeria we shouldn't allow luck to take him any further. He is not a leader. I used to be one of his fans, but sentiment apart, he didn't deserve my vote.
Politics / Re: Justice Salami Goes To Court Over Unwanted "promotion". by SegzyJoe(m): 11:43am On Feb 10, 2011
Interesting, from this post I now conclude that most people that posts comment here are educated illiterate. In law they say justice must not only be done, it must be seen to have been done. when a promotion become an instrument for humuliation, does that promotion be said to be in good faith? As Nigerians don't we anymore a single sense of justice. A man is here saying that his promotion is humiliation yet we re not ready to see thru the lines. Even when enlightened opinions of competent members of the bar is posted above , most illiterate minds on this forum could still not see sense in the opinions of Sagay and others. It is a pity for Nigeria, the young people of today are not intellectually inclined.
Politics / Re: Olusola Saraki Opts For Acpn •mops Up Pdp Cards In Kwara | by SegzyJoe(m): 11:06am On Jan 04, 2011

Most people don't know Olusola Saraki very well. That's why many people thinks he's a joker. Well, personally i don't like his brand of politics and have actually supported different efforts to get him dethrone from Kwara politics, but it is not as easy as many people thought.

With this latest decampng, I can bet anyone that PDP reign is over in Kwara State. People should remember that Olusola Saraki was initially in ANPP when had problem with former Gov Lawal he moved to PDP and that was the end of ANPP in Kwara. Whenever Saraki moves into a party, he practically takes over such party, ACPN will not be exception.

Again Saraki has been in this game for close to 40yrs, Bukola is just playing the smart guy, without Oloye Bukola cannot even win an LG Chairman. By the way, I laugh at all the gubernatorial candidates, some of them as Oloye said could not even win election on their street, everybody is banking on the machinery of the PDP but now Oloye has removed the carpet under their foot. We will see how far. The truth is Saraki Oloye knows how to win election, Bukola don't know anything about winning election.

The funny thing is that Oloye has strong grassroot base of loyal voters that spanned four decades, come rain, come shine, they re loyal to him. These people can stay 12 hours on the queue, what most educated people will not do, these people are ready to do it for Saraki. In fact if Oloye put forward a cow, that cow will win election in Kwara. They don't want to know the person as lon as Oloye said they should vote for him.

I think people should fsit down and study Oloye's strategy and logic rather than making unnecessary noise everywhere. I tried to do this some yrs back and I discovered that Oloye's relationship with Kwara voters spanned 4 decades, and his generousity is not limited to civilian regime, throughout all the military years Oloye has always stand by his people, no single month in of all these 4 decades that this man will not give food stuff, money, pay school fees, pay hospital bills etc of the downtroden in major city in Kwara, now to my enlightened coleagues, this is nonsence, but it is that nonsence that has been winning election for him all these years.

If you have any problem, all you need is to get to baba Oloye, if that problem is not beyong human capacityy, you can be sure that that problem is solved. Even in the midlle of the night, Oloye will attend to you. . This man has built a family of voters that will not respond to logic and common sense in voting.

Another strategy commonly used by Oloye is that on the eve of any election, he will let loose some dangerous thugs that will be shooting round the city just to create fear so that all of you elites that value your life will not come out to vote, wheareas he would have assured all his loyalist not to bother about it but just go ahead and cast their vote. And trust me, Oloye has one of the most sophisticated and efficent political communication channel inn Kwara state. .
Again, Oloye always has his own ballot boxes, if you like vote for your candidates, Oloye candidates will still win, don't ask me how, just wait for this year election to confirm for your selves. From the commissioner of police that will be in Kwara stte to the INEC Resident Commissioner, Oloyes is always ahead of others in electioneering strategy.

I won't say more than this for now, I will return to this thread when Gbemisola is returned to Government House and when Bukola must have returned to beg for the forgiveness of his father.

Until Nigerians decides to resist evil under whatever name it is being called whether militancy or armed robber, the people that harbours such criminal elements in their community will continue to suffer collateral damage in the hands of law enforcement agents and the armed forces. If you know a militant hide-out or camps where evil is being perpetrated and the entire community dey sidon look as if nothing happened, then it is to their peril. There is no government that will open its eyes and allowed criminal elements to wrestle power away from the state. It is the responsibility of every community to ensure that they are not at cross purposes with government efforts at stamping out militancy and criminal activities of a few idiots.

Saddam Hussain did more than that when it was time to teach him a lesson he fell like a pack of cards. Today, he is dead by hanging. If not for the sake of order and global stability, no battle drill by all the Arabs states combined can shake the United States. US defence budget alone if it were to be a separate economy would ve been the third largest economy in the world. So Iran should save her energy and keep her peace, or else it would be humiliation for her

I have been check out ur posts lately, it seemed to me you have issues with Obj, there is hardly any of your post that u don't mention the name Obj, you are not alone sha, that man has been mentioned in the news more than any other Nigerian alive for the past 10 yrs of democracy. If you observed very well you will discover that every of his comment is a national headline. To me personally, i think Obj is man to be reckon with in contemporary Nigeria, I think he is a man of significance.

Have you ever imagine if OBj is to withdraw support from GEJ today, that will signal the end of his presidential campaign, on the other way round if he should join Atiku today, am sure Atiku himself will be a fulfilled man and his presidential ambition will be a dream come true. Am sure yourself as Atiku loyalist will be very happy. So, why can't we give Obj the credit he deserves, that he is a man of great influence rather than smearing his name at every opportunity.
