Do you even know the meaning of nationalist? I doubt you know. Can't you just restrict your shallow rantings on nairaland to defending your people? I think you will do better as an Igbo activist than just talking for talking sake. You don't have to be expert on every topic.

your information is at best faulty, I wonder how anybody can deny the fact that Obj is a brialliant General, you don't have to like him or his personality, but give it to him, he's a brilliant General, he may not be a good politician. Obj is not only a good General, he's also very intelligent one for that matter.

by the way, who told you IBB was the one that foiled the coup? he actually played the in-between, but he had the benefit of knowing where the pendulum swing will go and he toed the line, for your information and as attested by IBB, were it not for Obj, IBB military career would have ended with coup.

Family / Re: Do You Like Your Full Name Why Do Nigerians Have So Many Wierd Names by SegzyJoe(m): 10:07am On Jul 13, 2009
@whiteroses
I think you are foolish enough to come to this forum where you know majority of the people here are Nigerians to insult the sensiility of our people for not naming our children names that suit your hegemonic and colonial masters' mentality. I am sure you like those wonderful Greek, Rissian, German names, I know you would prefer "Sanjo" having such ridiculous names as "Wood" "Stone" " Gate" so that his girlfriend will marry him.

Names in every culture is a reflection of the entirety of a people's culture, language and civilization, is it not good enough that white Europeans gave Africans strange names and artificial borders, yet they still want us to name our children European's names for them to feel cool with us.

Shouldn't our names reflect the reality of our own existence and identity? Or should I name my child "Stone" a name that has nothing to do with what I cherish as a person. Shouldn't my name reflect my values? It is a pity and unfortunate for those black Africans that could not read Whiteroses handwriting as a plot to debase our common identity and humanity. If I could guess right, he's telling us that except we changed our names and have Europeans names we won't be acceptable in Europe. That's why brainwashed people like him are changing their name everyday, I wonder if they can also change their blackness.

@some secrets have the tendency of destroying all you ve laboured for, their potency sometimes may be proportionate to how long they have been kept from your spouse, so? you better tell him/her before allowing your past to destroy your today and tomorrow. The realisation that your cherished spouse could keep such things from you may undermine trust and faith, and it may affect future bonding in any relationship

Of a truth, Ribadu touched many lives in Nigeria directly or indirectly, positively or negatively, depending on which side of the law you were during his reign. There are many relatives and beneficiaries of treasury looters on nairaland. And I won't be suprise if cre8tivity is one of such people.
Politics / Re: Life Sentence For Protesting Soldiers: 'Cheating In Army Ruined My Career' by SegzyJoe(m): 10:21am On Jun 23, 2009
I agree with Kay9 and Remii above, there is no room for mutiny in the Army. Though I must agree that they are victim of corrupt institution in Nigeria, but it is not an excuse for protest. Protest against injustice may be a fundamental human rights for civilians but not for the Army. Because it undermines command and control, no Army in the world can take it, it will destroy the entire command doctrine and systems.

They are very lucky, if it were to be a military regime, the penalty may be stiffer than that. There actions have great implication for the society, protest in the Army is a total disregard for order, if allow to go unpurnished, such army will be more dangerous than the enemy forces. Infact they will post the greatest danger to the entire society. I know many people may not understand this but it is the naked truth.

The command doctrine is premised on discipline and obeying orders, anything that undermines it undermines the entire society. Every soldier must submitt to order even when he's dying, without order, a soldier is a menace to the society. There purnishment is to serve as deterence, any attempt not to do this will result in setting a dangerous precedent in the army, and the army will become a loose brutal force. We should always remember that they are armed and they re human being, without the constraint of discipline and order, they will become a brutal force. That is why discipline and order must not be compromised even for the sake of their lives talkless of a life sentence

If it is Nigerians and not Ghanians that voted Adeboye with a wide margin as a legend, what right have all these morons have to insult the people that voted him? Am sure some of them voted for their candidates yet they did not match up with Adeboye, isn't this the same way our politicians find it difficult to accepted elections results in Nigeria? Or is it possible to vote for somebody that has not touch your life in anyway, when you have the choice to vote those that have in many ways? Is this bitterness against Adeboye justified? Or are the people crucifying Adeboye only motivated by hatred and frustration? What has Adeboye done  to deserve all these insults?

Ok, if Nigerians are brainwashed as some people would want us believe, then why did Adeboye made the list of the most influential men in the world by the world acclaimed magazine? Or are those people too brainwashed? Funny enough no other Nigerian made the list. Are we fools? Why do we always rejects what the world value and celebrates. The same  way we rejected Ribadu and El-Rufai and yet the world is listening to them where even our president will not be given audience.

I think Nigeria has a distorted value system. Yes I know that there are many people on this forum that uses the opportunity of a faceless information highway to spew their frustrations, but what I fail to understand is how such people are incapable of independent thought without allowing  religon, tribal and other frivolities to colour their judgement.

It is a shame

Politics / Re: Can A First Lady Grant Amnesty To A Criminal? by SegzyJoe(m): 11:14am On Jun 17, 2009
@post
this is about the biggest scandal I have seen in my adult life, I hope there won't be any greater than this.
the power of amnesty by state government can only be exercised by the executive governor, not even the deputy Gov can exercise such powers except when acting in that capacity as Governor

the exercising of the power of prerogative of mercy is vested in the executive arm of government, then the exercising of such powers is not just for the sake of exercising it, rather there are basic gazettes that have been put in place to guide the occupier of that office in exercising such powers. For instance he or she must avoid frivolities, follow due process (in consultation with the state Attorney General), the said person's case be reviewed, must not result to miscarriage of justice, not endanger peace and good governance, the Gov must not be an interested party to mention a few.

for a first lady, who did not exist in the eye of the law to arrogate such powers to herself is a slap on Nigeria. Unlike the holy books that believes that husband and wife are one flesh or the same, in law, husband and wife are two different persons. Any way, this is Nigeria.

the last three posters above my post are the most subjective posters on nairaland. I have followed their post for quite some time now and I realized that their perspective on issues is myopic, subjective and uninformed.

I advise you guys to open up a bit and atleast be objective in your subsequent posts.

The primary qualification of an analyst is to be informed on a particular subject of discussion, but when such simple qualification is compromised, then there is little room for intellectual discussion.

Now on the subject matter of this post, I have no doubt that El-Rufai is more informed than any one of you on this issue. Atleast, he participated in most of the major decision in the last administration and his information is not based on the news media which is the source of information to most frivolous posters on nairaland. Funny enough, majority of these media houses are owned by people El-Rufai revoked their plots and demolished their houses for one crime or the other.

I bet El-Rufai is 100 times better than most lazy posters on nairaland.
Politics / Re: Churches Taking Over Company Warehouses - Good Or Bad Omen For The Country? by SegzyJoe(m): 9:27am On May 25, 2009
@Abeem & Co travellers
Is it the church's fault that companies are closing shops? Would you have loved those closed warehouse to grow weeds with nobody occupying them? Does a warehouse growing weeds because there is no company to rent or acquire it profits the owner? Or are the churches taking over these warehouses for free? Aren't they paying for usage of these warehouses? If a company packed out of your warehouse, won't you be glad if a church take it over and pay your rent rather than leaving the place idle?

Sometimes, the human mind is so mischievious and hypocritical that the gullible minded could be easily decieved. Am sure it is not the rate at which companies are folding up that is your concern rather you hide your hatred for the church under your "pretentious concern" for the state of Nigerian economy.

I know you may be a sceptical christian or a non-christian for that matter, but rather than confronting the fact that the church is fast growing in Nigeria, you choose to tie your hypocrisy at the stake of the state of the economy.

I think you re a coward, you should have been courageuos enough to argue your point against the church rather than welling up emotions and sentiments to present a case to undiscerning public.

I have noticed this trend on Nairaland, giving the dog a bad name to hang it, unfortunately most people fall for this bait. It's a shame.

Politics / Re: Should Nigeria Give A Loan To Sao Tome And Principe? by SegzyJoe(m): 4:53pm On May 15, 2009
@post

Sincerely, I was suprised to see some nairaland experts on Nigerian politics not understanding the age long, simple and the most elementary arithmetic of foreign policy and economic diplomacy game
Again, I must confess that foreign policy issue is elitist in nature, as we used to say, "It suffers low clientele support. The ordinary man does not care what goes on outside Nigeria border, unfortunately most of the reasons for his suffering are determined outside the border of his country.

Anyway, Nigeria's romance with Sao Tome and Principe is strictly economical. When I read their request for loan, I was very happy, yet I wonder why Nigeria cannot give them all the $30 million they requested. But when I read further, I realized that Nigeria will give them the money batch by batch, $10 million first and others will come later.

As someone has rightly observed, there was a joint agreement and venture between Sao Tome and Nigeria on Oil exploration, production and marketing purposes.  To say the least, the agreement is in Nigeria's favour. Sao Tome is an oil rich country that is attracting many actors including the United States. The truth is, if Nigeria failed to give them the money, there are many countries that are ready to give them, infact, our major competitor in that country then was the United States, but we were there before the Bush Administration re-focus American Energy Policy in the Gulf of Guinea. The first and foremost objective of AFRICOM is to protect US energy source in the Gulf of Guniea and then Terrorism.

Maybe I should digress a little, the prospect of the Joint Venture between Nigeria and Sao Tome in Oil exploration was behind the floating of Transcorp. The idea is to have a Nigeria multi national corporation that will compete with other multinationals in Africa most especially in Sao Tome and our other areas of influence like Liberia, Sierra Leone etc.

Today, most of the Multinational corporations (MCN) here in Nigeria and else where were floated through the support of the various foreign governments to explore resources in other lands and to maximize the benefits for their countries, that is why they repatriate profits to their mother countries.

The discovery of oil in commercial quantity and Nigerian involvement was irresistible for the Sao Tome Army and they took over government with a view to undermine the Joint Venture and bring in other countries to do the work for them (apparently the Sao Tome Army was sponsored by other interested state actors). Sao Tome is a country of 300,000 thousand population and they didn't have means (capital and the technology to transform the huge oil deposit reality) to invest required capital to transform the oil rich potential to dream.

It is high time Nigerians realizes that to be relevant in the 21st century, Nigeria must be a player, active player for that matter. I read in the news that during Jacob Zuma inurguration, Nigeria president sat among the crowd of other African leaders which is quite unfortunate, just about three years ago, other African leaders always come to Abuja to pay their homage to Obasanjo, infact, OBJ was demi-god in West Africa, for the first time in African diplomacy Gaddafi became African Union Chairman because Nigeria went to sleep.  Obj attended G8 meeting twice and spoke for Africa, today our president was not invited for G20 summit.

We must re-invent ourselves, we must take our place in the comity of nations, we must not abdicate our responsibility, we have sacrificed for Africa and we are still sacrificing, but no one should deny us our right of place in Africa and in world affairs.

the doctrinal tradition of the Army is against protest of any form, it does not argur well for discipline, command and control. the purnishment must be severe or else the same will be repeated elsewhere and it will be a calamity for state security.

this is not to justify the looting officers that deprived those gallant soldiers their dues, it is a sign of a sick nation.

but then, those soldiers should have used another peaceful and orderly method of registering their grieviances and injustice done to them.

but as I said early on, that kind of behaviour from those soldiers cannot be tolerated anywhere in the world because it creates a problem of order and control, no state or military institution can afford it.

I think sometimes you allow your emotion to override your sense of judgment. anyway, its a common problem on this forum, arguement that lacks consistency and logic flow of thoughts.

It is amazing that the only explanation you have for your hatred for Obj is that his son accused him of sleeping with his wife. I bet some of you hypocrites have done worse things.

Sincerely, I don't want to go further with you, most of your posts are too subjective and often times lacks intellectual premise for me to get involved with you. this is what happens when newspaper stand political analysts are the majority poster on Nairaland politics section.

so much hatred on this forum against Obj, some of you Obj haters should just think for a second, if your fathers were given the same opportunity as Obj whether they would have done better for Nigeria. by the way, I have noticed this internalized hatred, hatred has never been of any good to the haters, am sure some of you would be worst than Obj were you to be Local Govt Chairmen let alone a president. Calling an elderly man like Obj all kind of names is a testimony of a character weakness which in my opinion is not a virtue of leaders
Politics / Re: Do These Diasporic Nigerians Love D Country More Or Just Out To Rubbish It More? by SegzyJoe(m): 9:31am On Apr 23, 2009
@ i - laugh

As unsubstantiated as your post may sound,  I think am in agreement with what you re saying. some diasporas travelled out of Nigeria out of bitterness due to  situation at home, it always baffles me that some of them responded to anything Nigeria out of bitterness, they somehow find it difficult to forgive the country that has made them a second class citizens in a foreign land.

my take on this is that I think they sometimes exerggerate the negative sides of Nigeria, as lucabrasi observed, the sources of information may have contributed to the negative tones of their comments on this forum.

again, my contention with Nigerians diasporas is this feeling that they were not part of the problem confronting Nigeria today, yet some of us that travel ocassionally are being humuliated every now and then, just because some of this diasporas have misrepresented us in their despiration to survive.

I sometimes find them not to be in touch with reality of the situation in Nigeria, the seriousness with which they take our newspaper headlines suggest that they are out of touch with Nigeria's situation, then I guess they are mistaken Nigerian press with European or American press, negative headlines don't really bother us here in Nigeria, because soonest you will sone hear a contrary news contradicting the former report. Sensational reporting is here with us, and most of the major dailies are owned by politicians who find it convenient to demonise their political adversaries at will

they come on this forum and shout blue murder whenever there is a negative news about Nigeria as if they were not part of the problem before finding their way abroad, some diasporas engages in activities that contineu to tarnish the image of Nigeria, yet they are quick to come on Nairaland to point accusing fingers.

@lucabrasi

I agree with your points above, those points may have contributed to their view and perception about Nigeria. I suggest they ask questions here on this forum instead of claiming to know all about Nigeria from their hideout in America, Europe and Asia. It is not everything that is going on in Nigeria that is reported on nairaland and I think the information gap is contributing to the uninformed post been sent here by most diasporas.

Is this all you have to contribute to Nigeria's greatness, you could have used the same energy to paint the positive side of your country. apart from the digusted video clip, am sure there are other good things about Nigeria, good things that your creativity and ingenuity could paint to the outside world. Again, am sure you know the world is reading your post too.

Every country has its beautiful and ugly sides, I will rather use my energy to promote Nigeria's image than contributes to its battered image, most especially on an open forum like this.

This poster should muster the courage to face his friend and tell him that that video clip is not all that it is about Nigeria, definitely your friend should be able tp believe your story about Nigeria, he shouldn't have any reason to doubt you, atleast if you had been a good ambassador of Nigeria.
