Family / Re: It Is Proper To Have Sex During Fasting Period? by SegzyJoe(m): 3:16pm On Jan 07, 2015
@post Food and sex are meant to replenish the body. When you break your fasting in the evening, you eat food, drink water, soft drinks or wine, why can't you have sex? Sex is allowed when you have broken your fasting, but caution should be applied to avoid serious health risk.

secondly, according to the book of Corinthians, the decision must be taken by both parties. In order words, if one of the party disagree on no sex, they other should comply and have sex with their spouse.

Thirdly, Sex in marriage is not a SIN. Sex in marriage is HOLY and is an act of WORSHIP to God. Many marriages experiencing storms in today's society is directly or indirectly related to sexual problems in marriage. Any religious practice that reaches against sex in marriage during period of extended fasting will be contributing to an already worst situation.

I participated in the 100 days fasting, this question was raised, we researched views of many ministers of God and found out that sex is allowed during fasting, as it is an act of worship and holy before the Lord. One may abstain from sex during the active fasting period as in morning to evening, but after breaking and eating of food, if couples intend to have sex, they are free to do so. Fasting essentially is to deny one of pleasure (food) in order to seek the fact of God. But when we eat after daily fasting, nothing should also stop us from having sex.

My advise to young couples and those looking for the fruit of the womb is not to stay away from sex even during fasting, but should be done as appropriate.

Politics / Re: Awo Fought WB For Free Education, C. War Starters commited genocide–Odia Ofeimun by SegzyJoe(m): 2:28pm On Jan 03, 2014
It was easy for NCNC to fill the vacancies left by the white colonialists because NPC/NCNC (Ahmadu Bello/Tafawa Balewa and Namdi Azikwe formed the national national Government after the 1959 general election while Action Group was the opposition party. Awo pleaded with Azikwe for them to form National Government (AG and NCNC) but Zik aligned with NPC. Azikwe decision was good because if AG and NCNC went ahead to form the national govt at the time, the North would have been alienated or perhaps pulled out of Nigeria. Meanwhile, the Bristish Colonial powers had figured out the calculations. They wanted NPC led Government, and in a parliamentary system, the leading party at election can form a government, if it didnt have enough votes, then it can form a coalition which was what NPC did with NCNC. AG came second in the election and could also have formed a coalition with NCNC but Azikwe went the way of NPC.

So, naturally, since NPC did not have enough educated candidates to fill positions left by the whites colonial masters, it was an opportunity for NCNC to fill these vacancies as part of the ruling govt of the time with exclusion of Awo party (AG) in the West. This is the history of how Igbo dominated the Federal Service at independence. Attempt by NPC to form alliance with Akintola who took over from Awo as Premier of Western Region for him to contest at national for Prime Minister. After the loss at the national Awo retreated to the West, this was the begining of the Western region crisis. Akintola pulled out of AG to formed his own party, in 1964 general election after the expiration of NPC/NCNC govt, the attempted alliance btw NPC and Akintola's party and the consequent attempt by NPC govt to power of incubency and to use Akintola's party to cut AG and by extension to size led to state of emergency in the old Wild West saga. This why Yoruba resisted attempt by NPC led govt to use their own to undermine Awo legacy. and being the opposition party at the time, the crisis degenerated.

The manipulative and imbalanced distribution of political dividends in favour of the North against the Eastern Region coupled with the crisis in the West led to Kaduna Ezeogu Coup in 1966. The could systematically eliminated most Northern leaders and interestingly left out Easter leaders. When Ironsi took over from the rebels, instead of taken decisive measure to deal with the coupists which was what everyone expected, he was treaing them with kid glooves to the extent that news went round that the coupists were leaving like king with access to everything in their detention. The handling of the coupists by Ironsi and addition to killing of Northern leaders was the main reason for the counter coup by predominantly Northern officers that brought in Gowon. the seed of mistrust was already sown.

The consequent tension among the Easterners and noertherners led to ethnic violence in the North and Igbo were attacked and killed, these were the build up to the civil war. Ojukwu mobilized and went to war. I must say that he did not prepare for the war adequately. Blaming Awo for the loss of the war was an attempt to pin the blame on others otjer than yourselve. This misinterpretation over the years has fueled the ember of hatred btw Igbo and Yoruba. Especially, the defeat of Biafra and subsequent govt policies were not friendly to the SE. Ordinarily, SE believed that Yoruba profited from their downfall and humilation on the battlefield. But that was not true, because Yorubas were in the opposition, it helped them to use available scarce resources to build the SW. For instance all the industrial estates in Lagos/Ibadan and Ogun axis were developed and built by Awo. The misinformation of the civil war, and the refusal of gallant Biafra soldiers to admit they lost the battle and the need to hold somebody responsible for their failure in the war was the origin of the hatred by Yoruba and Igbo on Nairaland today. Thank God the poster did justice to this some of the issues sorrounding the Nigerian civil war and interplay of politics btw and among Nigeria's major tribes.

4. He missed the simple lecture on power matrix in Nigeria Geo-Politics. Therefore, he failed to understand the pressure points of Nigeria geo-political framework, thereby relying on rookies of Nigerian politics rather the veterans and champions.

Of all the strategic mistake made by the president, the most gravious one was to treat SW as inconsequential. SW is the pressure point of Nigerian federation. Without SW there will be no Nigeria, SE & North would ve parted ways long time ago.

That is why IBB as as General did not play with SW, though eventually he was chased out by the same SW. It was SW media that backed up Gej presidency when d cabal wanted to staged managed d situation. It was only in the SW that Save Nigeria project was held lending credence to Gej ascention to power. Obj 's voice in support to Gej made the North to back down to allow Gej to take over after Yar Adua's death. All that is history now.

Gej made several mistakes, he decipated energy on pple that have no political or electoral values. What is the electoral values o Deziani, stella, wike, maku and others in Nigerian presidential election? He made Tukur a buz man to run Pdp, he alienated all the strategic actors and gathered feather weights around himself, he himself is a feather weight.

If were d president, I will tell Nigeria am not interested in 2015. This will allow him to groom a successor, make all d enemies to back down and allow in to concentrate on leavin a legacy for himself.

It is a pity that many youth on this forum who failed to learn nothing of value to their lives have made Nairaland where pple dump all manner of stuff their library.

Mustapha that could not pass major promotn exam like his former boss is now ur hero who should challenge Obj. How old was Al mustapha in 1979? General Abdusalam then a major led parade at Obj handling over to Shagari in 1979. Yet Mustapha who probably was just joinin d army at d time will now lecture Obj on Nigerian history.

I think Gej addict on this forum would see a boko haram who speak up for Gej as a hero.

By d way was Obj d head of state in 1974 or Gowon?
So what secret since 1974?

I wonder if these uninformed Gej addict know it was Obj that prosecute & sentenced to death Dimka and co who killed Murtala. And if Obj was part of them, I wonder if none of would not have mentioned it to the tribunal.

Or is it that pple are not using their head again. How could anyone thinkin right would want to pinned Murtala's death on Obj? You think northerners are fool, Obj will kill Murtala & they will still make him d head of state?

When Gowon was chosen in Jos 1966 after d northern counter coup, Murtala was d preferred candidate for d head of state but because middle belt officers were in d majority then at d meetin after neutralizin Ironsi. Then Gowon was chosen, that is why Murtala was waitin in d wing.

Officers of middle belt extration led by Dimka were not happy at Gowon's removal hence they accused Murtala of corruptn as excuse to remove him which
was not so. Elevation of Obj was even because he was most senior, he even refused d position but Danjuma & others pressed him into acceptin d head of state position.

Obj cannot debate with Al mustapha, he can debate with Gej because they represent two diff world (politician & civilian) but Obj debatin with Am mustapha is against military ethics and tradition..

Education / Unilorin Has Not Joined ASUU Strike In 15 Years by SegzyJoe(m): 8:17am On Oct 23, 2013
It is good to know that despite the frequent ASUU strike that has become a regular feature in our academic system, Unilorin has enjoyed uninterrupted academic calendar for 15 years.

The school has witnessed great development strides in the last few years, most of the massive infrastructural development started during Oba era has contineu till today. It was Oba the former VC that detached Unilorin from ASUU. Though a controversial man, but his radical approach then has paid off in term of more recent scientific, technological breakthru the school has recorded now.

I was also amazed to hear that 41 first class student are being graduated, before I left yhe school about 10yrs back, we used to have just 3 or 4 1st class graduating student, then yiu can almost sure the will come from Mathematics and Agric Engr depts. Thru out my stay, there was no 1st class in the mini campus then that housed faculties of social science, Art and Education.

Having 41 first class graduating students is a clear evidence that having uninterrupted academic calendar goes a long way in improving the standard of education.

I remember those days because of a stable academic calendar Unilorin bwcame highly competitive to the extent thay student that scored 285, 303 in Jamb ( atleast i tried to help this two jambites) could not be admitted. A friend of mine then was stay with d VC, because of pressure from ministers, governors, obas, emirs and the presidency to get their wards admitted, the VC had to give my friend letter to VC unijos for admission.

Somebody made a comment on another thread comparing Unilorin to private universities in turnin out 1st class, I just laugh, because in Unilorin, to graduate with 2.1, you will be a first class material in other federal unis.

When I was serving, I happened to be Corps Liaison Officer with over 400 corpers under me, of this over 400 corpers, about 300 were serving in 3rd generation university in a state in South
South, I most of the corpers are attached to d Hod of dept, most feedback I got from my corpers then on how lazy and dullards were gettin 2.1 was amazing. I didnt want mention the school here, because it might derail this thread.

In summary, If we have less strike and everybody do their job, most schools will be turning out first class. Nigerian students under difficult circumstances, we still perform, we could do better under better circumstance.
Politics / Re: Igbo Presidency 2015 Or 2019 : A Lesson In Zero Strategy by SegzyJoe(m): 10:04pm On Oct 16, 2013
From all d comments from nairaland of Eastern extraction, I still maintained that Igbos have not mastered politics d way they have mastered economics. In other words, Igbo are not politically savy in comparison with Yoruba and Fulanis. Of all d 3 major ethnic tribes, d Hausa Fulanis are the most strategic. I will explain later.

While Yorubas are sophisticated politically, in term of historical political structure, political culture, political behaviour, tact and diplomacy as played out in d history of Old Oyo Empire, yet

Yoruba political power experience lacks what I called D EXTERNAL FACTOR or Hegemonic
power calculations. D time that the British
colonial power used in balancing powers in their
colonies across d globe during colonial rule.

D Huasa Fulanis or d Fulanis are well
experienced in power calculations, as conqueror
of Hausaland and other many African tribes, they
understand the Ex-Factor or hegemonic power
matrix more than any other tribes in Nigeria. D
Fulanis history has been that of conquest, power
ajd survival on their ability to hold on to power.
From North Africa to subsahara Africa. Power is
their main pre-occupation and means of
survival. As minority, they have dominated many
large tribes in many african region using Islam
as as tool to achieve d ultimate goal of power
and survival. What we call Hausa Fulani today is actually Fulanis because they are less than 10% of d entire Northern populatn, yet they are in charge. Even Fulani women marries you for your current
power or future potential power. You can ask d
northerners. That is why all d emirs are Fulanis
and they rule over the North.

D minorities votes are in between in Nigeria, they re split across d divides, two majority ethnic group votes must count b4 a president can
emerge. Which one of this group is SE courting at
d present? Is it d Hausa Fulanis or Yorubas? Or is it only SS and NC?

If oil were to be found in any of d majority ethnic grps in large quantity, Nigeria would ve splited long time ago. When d north attempted succession, Britain caution them because they be will losers, one reason while d north is still part of one Nigeria is oil. If oil were bein exported like now durin Biafra, maybe it would ve succeded, but with baggages of Biafra, will d North support an Igbo presidency in a general election? A single religious card will sway d votes against an Igbo presidency in the north anyday.

I always get d impression that SS will stay with SE come what may, is this really true? It SS not part of the people that sabotaged Biafra? What would be d srength of GEJ after his tenure? Hw many former civilian presidents have been part of the clique that determines d next president?
D head of d clique that determines who rules Nigeria today is Obj, then IBB and others military guys, they have enough foot soldiers and cash to fix it. Who is Igbo reps in that clique?

Obj is like an institution, or else with no party base, d arrow heads of d new pdp, Gej are all fallen over one another to visit him, even sworn enemies like Atiku and Anineh have eaten d humble pile to visit him twice.

I am really sorry, I am trying to put things the way they are in Nigeria of today as a political analyst. This may hurt sm people, it is d reality. Ndigbo must change strategy or else their presidential hope can only be in a new Nigeria of the future, not d Nigeria of the old order dat we running today.
Politics / Re: Minister Forced Aviation Agency To Spend $1.6 M On Two BMW Armoured Cars(Pics) by SegzyJoe(m): 7:23pm On Oct 16, 2013
The way and manner some ethnic bigots are defending the aviation minister is so degrading, it is even worse because some of the people defending her would claimed to have been educated. This also shows that our education system has pegged our IQ below average. We have gone to school, acquired certificates, but we are not educated. No sane society will condone this. There is no DG that will put such car on the road and will not be queried immidiately.

For those that said she has nothin to do with it, pls note that such amount must be approved by the supervising ministry for such purchase to take place. A little above that amount will require FEC approval. I am sorry for our future.

South South had strategy notwithstanding it was crude one. Freedom fightin and militancy in the guise of fightin for oppression, neglect, environmental degredation & reaource control. Even though the Northerners did not buy into that sentiment but Obj helped in facilitated that reality. As I said, you have to put smthing on d table or negotoate with somethin. Militancy was stopping oil flow meaning a diminishin oil revenue for govt. Remember Ken Saro wiwa died for d same course, they courted the UN too support their course, above all, they make it difficult for multinational corporation to do business thru kidnappin. If u ask me they have sttategy. That strategy got them VP, it was not to be more than that but luckily Yar Adua died.

The question is what does the SE puttin on the table? SE neeed to look inward and re- evaluate their strategy if there is any.
Politics / Igbo Presidency 2015 Or 2019 : A Lesson In Zero Strategy by SegzyJoe(m): 11:50pm On Oct 14, 2013
If the approach, methodology, perspective and strategy of Igbo community on nairaland is a true representative of Ndigbo larger strategy to clinch the Nigerian presidency, I dare say that Aso Villa will forever remain an elusive dream for the them..

While it is not contestable that Igbos have mastered the art of business strategy (they can grow buz from zero level to an enviable height), the same cannot be said of mastering political strategy, especially within Nigerian context.

For instance, it is not a wise political strategy to have a sizable portion of your population and businesses in SW, and yet display so much hatred for Yorubas, it is not.

It is not a grand strategy to approach politics from emotional point of view (jealousy and hatred for perceived enemy), rulership is meant for men of reason, not those dominated by emotion (you can ask Nicolo Machiavelli or Aristotle).

It is a bear parlour strategy to think Nigerian presidency can be achieved through blackmail and noise making rather than a grand strategy of compromise and bridge building.

It is not strategy to make foes out of friends while gunning for Aso villa. Is it really possible for Igbos to clinch the presidency without the support of South West?

If an opinion poll is conducted in the North today on whether an average Northerner will want an Igbo presidency, the answer could be better imagined, yet I know that many Yoruba will still opt for Igbo presidency. If an average Hausa man will not even imagine an Igbo presidency, and the Yorubas are being demonize by Igbo, on whose strength are they then hoping to clinch the presidency?

I am quite aware, Igbos are very proud people with innate desire to lead others, unfortunately Yorubas are not push over in every regard, but resulting to unhealthy rivalry is the least way to respond to our differences.

The lack of political strategy in their SE quest to have a shot at the presidency explained the lack of a meaningful political party in the SE today which will serve as rallying point for their presidential aspiration. LITTLE WONDER IGBO HAS NOTHING TO TRADE WITH OR BRING TO THE TABLE IN THE BID TO OCUPPY ASO VILLA. COULD THIS BE THE REASON WHY NDIGBO ARE PUSHING FOR GEJ (AN AZIKWE IN DISGUISE?). POWER IS NOT GIVEN, IT IS TAKEN, OVERTLY OR COVERTLY.

Igbo need a re-strategizing, a re- order of priorities, compromise, consensus, and bridge building. Igbo should buried their pride, SW represent their best and sure path to the presidency. For almost 30yrs, the Northern ruling elites did not allow an Igbo man to reach major-general rank in the army with the exception of Ike Nwachukwu (who has a northern blood and grew up in KD) until OBJ changed the tide, would the current CAS have been in position to be appointed if not for the restructuring OBJ carried out in the army, would there have been a SS president today, if not for OBJ, why are we behaving as if we have not been around for a while in this country.

Yorubas sacrificed their sons blood to get the presidency, while Igbos are traveling home en mass from Lagos, the jokes those days (1993 - 1998) were they are going for Yam festival, even the 7 SE Govs were opposed to Abiola presidency publicly, Chukwumerije even said Abiola ran away from battle to mock the Yorubas, but after the struggle, while still in the opposition, two Yoruba candidates were nominated as the presidential candidates of the two major political parties of the time, either way, a yoruba must emerge, while can't Ndigbo be strategic for once in their quest for the presidency instead of thinking it is Yorubas that is their enemy. My question is why do the Igbos always think Yoruba is their enemy, instead of the other people that hated them with passion?

An Nidgbo son wrote an article in the news paper last week about lack of strategy in Igbos quest for the presidency, I hope somebody can learn from this.

Sincerely, I didnt write the above to degrade or insult Ndigbo community but I was just disappointed in the way some people are portraying Yoruba as the enemy of Igbo presidency, we can have our differences, but we still need ourselves. The North ruled for many years because of our rivalry. Awolowo worked with Zik even though they have their differences. The hatred being peddled by this generation will definitely widen the divide, and it is not good for the two sides.

I dare say this is the first time i will see Putin engagin in constructive engagement on an issue that has turn UNSC into coma in resolving int'l crisis. He was not only opposed to the use of force, he put forward a sensible arguement and solution. It is also a face saving for Obama's crossed red line, which if obama didnt do anythin it might undermine his presidency and American prestige and respect in int'l relations, as that will mean his words carries no weight, and might not be able to defend Israel in the future. With the new Putin deal, it is a win win situation for both presidents. I welcome the development.

Hwever, on dis issue, even though Fani Kayode is a pol jobber like many other Nigerians, but there is element of truth in his assertion. Though he came a bit blunt, dat may offend Gejfans, but d alternative would be bad buz for d president.

There may be other optns for mr president in a normal & saner democracy, often times we all failed to realize that Nigerians were not d one dat elected Gej, as long as pdp remain d dorminant party-Gej was elected at pdp conventn whr he clinched party nomination. What nigerians did at d general electn was predetermined.

Unfortunately, he is up against those dat gave him d ticket. His positn is bad because he pleaded for one term & publicly declared it. His positn is worsened because he is 4rm d minority group. Sincerely it is difficult enough for him even with Obj to plead with d north, it is almost imposible for him to come back in 2015 without Obj. Why? Obj is like a demon, all d critical stakeholders in d north- Ibb, Atiku& others fear him because he can undue anyone.these pple too re principalities with foot soldiers but Obj is even like a ruler of darkness in pol strategy.Sincerely, wit d polarizatn of pdp, d president ambitn in 2015 has been undermined, I was suprised what d presidents' men are doin allowin president to walk into dat trap. D president shouldnt ve been there, at worst d conventn shld ve been canceled, it is a failure of intelligence gatherin for such a strategic meetin for d president. Even Obj was absent, he did not witnessed d embarasment.

I was suprised dat d clueless advisers & security operatives to d president re blame Obj instead of usin him to achieve Gej goal first b4 dumpin him again.in conclusion, Gej need Obj now more than ever, even more than he needed him in 2011. I hope he would not listen counsel. He who fight & run away live to fight another day.

@ Onlytruth
If only you will be as half truthful as your psuedo name suggest, atleast you should have known in strategic context that a safe passage for rebel troops will not be in the interest of posterity. By the way safe passage to where? Lagos or Kano? So you need to drive the abokis from Lagos, why not face Kano? I think the easterners are peddling half truth whenever the issue of the civil war is discussed. Awolowo a statesman should rely and trust the words of an ambitious military boy at the detriment of his own people. Perhaps, my eastern brothers would ve love Southwest to become a battle ground like the soouth-east war front, Awo was wiser not to allow a young boy spoil his efforts and sweats.
Religion / Re: To Become A Nigerian Pastor: What Qualification Is Needed? by SegzyJoe(m): 9:47pm On Mar 18, 2012
Your mistake is to think that academic qualification could substitute for anointing. Unfortunately, God is not looking for the qualified, He only need the available. It is the same way and reason why Jesus looked for the uneducated like Peter and others who were shine lights at the expense of the well read, learned Pharisees, Sadducis among others. God looks for those that make themselves available, the weak, illiterate, even the mr nobody. God likes to use nothing to bring out something. That is why it pleased God to use the simplicity of the gospel to save mankind, instead of subjecting salvation to rigorous academic and intellectual debates. Qualification to be a pastor is not about academic pedigree, it is about the book of life, the bible and the Holy Spirit.

Why should any wise person respond to an uninformed and ignorant thread like this.
The only people that will sign up for a thread like this are ignorant men in whose heart there is no God. People that didnt retain God in their knowledge.

The poster is not alone in this uninformed thought, about 2000 yrs ago, his snr brother (Judas Iscariot) said the same thing in a different way when Mary magdalene poured precious ointment on Jesus and wiped it with her hair, Judas said Is it not better to sell the oil and give to the poor rather than God and Jesus answered him " all the time you have the poor with you but not me.

The truth in that statement is that that you want to give to  the poor does not mean you love the poor. Infact people like this are stealing from the poor everyday in their daily activities.

Only a fool will put the poor above God. Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul and with all thy mind - this is the first law, and the second - thou shall love thy neigbour as thyself.

If you ask people to give to the poor, its ok but why at the expense of God? The truth is revealed behind the lines, it could only means one thing, that you don't love God.  My simple prayer for you is that it won't be too late for you to konw the truth, just like Judas Iscariot.

I must confess if stick to 10% percent of the advice you have been given, then you might save yourself from the coming destruction. By the way, there is also spiritual implication to what is happening btw you two, and trust me, you can't beat the devil at his game. It has never happen, except it is on another tuff not familiar to him. Please stay clear!
Politics / Gej And The Cowboy Diplomacy by SegzyJoe(m): 1:50am On Jan 17, 2012
President GEJ is a weak president from every ramification. He also acknowledged this fact when he admitted that people said he was slow, Nigerians actually meant that he is weak not slow. Recently, he is been making all effort to show some toughness, some sort of cowboy display. I observed he has been trying to behave like OBJ with the way he travelled to SA, handling the subsidy removal and deployment of soldiers. He failed to realize the fact that you cannot be what you are not. His recent French courage and actions are gradually showing off his lack of depth in power matrix.

With the way GEJ is going currently, am afraid he may jeopardize the chances of minority group to have a shot at the presidency in the nearest future. While trying to examine what is responsible for this king of behaviours, i discovered that it might be due to the fact he knew he can't come back for re-election, be that as it may, he should thread softly so that he will not jeopardize the chances of the minority to the presidency in the future. because of the dynamic nature of Nigeria politics, it is difficult enough for miinority to get to the highest office in the land, if GEJ misuses his power, the possibility is that the kind of situation that produces him as the president may not come in the next 100 years. It beat my imagination to think that GEJ will deploy soldiers to Lagos. The same people that rallied round him to become substantive president when the Huasa Fulani cabal wanted to denied him, it is like biting the fingers that fed you, OBJ's support for GEJ during that time alone was more than 100 Edwin Clark rantings put together in real political terms and substance. Even, ACN voted for GEJ in Lagos state. Considering Buhari in-roads in the North, would GEJ have won election without the support of SW? Especially critical support from people like OBJ.

This is the first time a SS man will be in the saddle, GEJ should know that power is transient and what he does with it today may affects the future chances of the minority group in Nigeria. He should thread softly especially with the Yorubas, no dictator has ever survived their onslought and sophistication, GEJ is too light weight to be on head on collision with the SW. Becos if the crisis started now, GEJ constituency will be nothing to fall back to for any political rein-forcement. He is a light weight, perhaps, he need to be told.
