The case will be like a prostitute lady that went to a church to give a testimony. At the podium, she now said, her testimony is that, last year, she used to operate in Benin, but this year, she has gotten her visa to go to Italy. She now told the whole church to rejoice with her.

Now, the question is, yes she made a progress, but was it a positive one or negative one?.

Today in Nigeria, it seems we are making progress, but is it a positive one or negative?

Nigeria Slams 'Discriminatory' Flight Checks

Nigeria has criticised new security measures for passengers flying to and from the United States as unfair and said they amounted to discrimination against 150 million people.
The US government has announced that travellers from 14 countries, including Nigeria, are to be subjected to extra checks including body pat-downs, after a young Nigerian was accused of trying to blow up a US jet on Christmas Day.
But Nigeria Information Minister Dora Akunyili said that Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, did not have a history of terrorism and such a move could not be justified.
"It is unfair to include Nigeria on the US list for tighter screening because Nigerians do not have terrorist tendencies," Ms Akunyili said.
"It is unfair to discriminate against over 150 million people because of the behaviour of one person."
A 23-year-old Nigerian, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, has been accused of trying to trigger an explosion on the Northwest Airlines plane with chemicals which had been stitched into his underwear.
"Abdulmutallab's behaviour is not reflective of Nigerians and should therefore not be used as a yardstick to judge all Nigerians," Ms Akunyili said.
"He was not influenced in Nigeria. He was not recruited or trained in Nigeria. He was not supported whatsoever in Nigeria."
Prosecutors say that Abdulmutallab tried to carry out the attack after undergoing training by Yemen-based militants who have said they were behind the plot.

This is what I saw at the site, but any ranting from her does not change our status for now, until the right things are done. We really need change in these country. A country that lives inside oil, and yet cars have to spend days at the filling stations, before they can buy another country's fuel (since our refineries are now museums), has a serious problem at hand.

The most painful aspect of it is that, the so-called Petroleum minister does not see anything wrong in that, yet prefers private holiday, when his house is on fire. Come to think of it, can't we just retire all these fools parading the corridors of power? I am tired of these people. Take for example, Rilwane Lukman has been in government ever since I was in primary four, and now I am a graduate and have worked for like 3 years now, and he is still a Minister, in a country that has more than 150million people. Something is really wrong with the system. The time to change all these is now.

Abeg, let them continue to embarrass us. That way, our plight will be known to the international community, since focus will now shift to us.

If more Nigerians students are refused Visas now, so what?. Instead of applying for student visas to go to study abroad,  Nigerians should now turn this "problem" into an opportunity to create very high quality University in Nigeria. A high quality education system in Nigeria is the key to betterment. Nigerians need to breed doctors, lawyers, scientists, teachers, public speakers, inventors, in Nigeria. And, we must find a way to instill these alternatives into the minds of our youth. Even though it may take a little longer and they may have to study a little bit harder, the results will be long term success.
Yes, I concur. How I just wished, these morons in the north were not there, and we never had a sleeping President to actualise these lofty dreams. Nigeria would have better for it.

The UK authorities are merely being safe, I have no issue with the whole idea of the strip search thingy. Sure, it's degrading, but they'd rather do that than allow any potential terror threat through.

May Mutallab (Curses Be Upon Him!) reap the fruit of the chaos he and his murdering band have sowed.

I feel the main issue is that, the impact of the Nigerian suicide attack will greatly affect Nigeria and Nigerians globally. Now the Americans have listed Nigeria amongst others to be thoroughly searched. Look at innocent people paying for the signs of a mad boy and religion.
Yes it will. In fact, it is no longer news that a special screening has been approved for about seven countries, which includes Nigeria, Sudan, Yemen, Somalia etc. That is why UK started theirs even without proper legislation, but all the same for safety. We have been thoroughly ridicule in this nation. Look at what an hausa man has caused Nigeria. They will never lead very well, and yet, they still cause all kinds of trouble shaming everybody. Thank God that, even the Americans now know that not all Nigerians are bad, but only the northern part. In as much as they cannot say this legislation is for Northern Nigeria, at least the awareness is there. GOD will save us.

One of the passengers (names withheld), was ordered to remove his belt at the screening point and to the amusement of other Nigerians and travellers on the queue, his trousers fell off and he was almost unclothed, only for the security operatives to say “we are sorry.”
Another female Igbo traveller, who was visiting Nigeria for Christmas was ferried into the rest room by a female security operative at the airport; she returned complaining that she had been unduly insulted by the security officer.

Speaking with Sunday Tribune on her travail, the fair-looking Nigerian lady from Abia State who pleaded anonymity said, “I wonder why the uncivilised action of one person should be visited on all Nigerians, you needed to see the kind of insult I was subjected to in the toilet, my privacy was infringed upon.
“Nigerian authorities should at this point in time rise up in defence of Nigerians who are genuinely and legally living outside the shores of the country, to put a stop to this insult. If something is not urgently done, Nigerians should be prepared for terrible times.
I did report this last week. You need to see how four Nigerian ladies were humiliated 48 hours after the incident at Heathrow airport. They were ushered into a small room by the airport authorities, and were asked to strip. They were almost totally naked at the screening room. In fact, some other nationalities took pity on them, yet they supported it for their own safety, as they claimed. How can you strip a woman, more so a married woman, all in the name of searching for explosives. Look at what Islam is causing Nigeria, yet they claim is a religion of peace. May GOD help us.

The incident aptly captured the experience which innocent Nigerian residents in the UK are now going through as a result of the December 25 incident.
A week after the Mutallab attempt, the dust raised is yet to settle, even as Nigerian residents in the UK now live in apprehension over the effect which the action of the 23-year-old Nigerian would have on their continued stay in the UK.

Specifically, Nigerians believed to be living in the UK illegally, have now gone into hiding for fear of being swooped on by the Metropolitan Police, who are said to be keeping 24 hours surveillance over areas largely populated by Nigerians, with particular attention on Nigerians with any muslim name.
When Sunday Tribune visited Peckham, Hackneywick, East London, Stevelage and Watford, all outside London and other suburbs in the UK, which are known to be highly populated by blacks, an air of apprehension and fear of the unknown enveloped the area, with residents afraid of going out to engage in their normal daily routine.

It was also gathered that Nigerian students who are genuinely studying in the UK are now living in fear because of the belief that the application for the renewal of their visas to enable them continue with their studies would be rejected.
At the Heathrow and Gatwick airports, intending Nigerian travellers were made to go through serious and inhuman screening before being allowed to board any plane to any destination.
There is no point. My guys, if the authority there are running after you guys, then come back home. Nigeria is beginning to get better.

Take for example, the president is no where to be found grin grin grin, at least we have a direction. Very soon, NTA News will publish full photograph of the man, asking us to give any vital info to the Police on the president's whereabout. After all, a handsome reward awaits the finder grin grin grin.

As for the students, they dont have any problem at all. Please be reminded that our Universities have resumed after about 3 to 4 months strike. All you need do is just collect your transcripts for the period spent so far, and apply in any one of your choice. Please hurry, else, you might join those that seats on the floor. Terror suspect: Nigeria, Ghana, SSS, NIA trade blame
By AGENCY REPORTER, Published: Saturday, 2 Jan 2010

The blame game that has characterized United States’ investigations into the alleged attempt by a Nigerian to explode a bomb on a US-bound passenger plane has moved to Africa.

In the wake of the event, American security agencies have been trading blame, with each agency claiming that the other could have thwarted the attack if it had acted sooner.

On Friday, on the continent, Ghana and Nigeria also got locked in an argument over where the suspect began his journey to Amsterdam. As this evolved, a report monitored on British Broadcasting Corporation on Friday also said that the State Security Service and the National Intelligence Agency were also trading blame on the incident.

Since the attempt was foiled, it had been widely assumed that the alleged bomber, 23-year-old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, began his journey in Nigeria. But speaking during the week, the Minister of Information, Mrs Dora Akunyili, said that Abdulmutallab began his journey in Accra, Ghana and only spent 30 minutes at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport before he boarded a plane to Amsterdam.

Akunyili, who also defended Nigeria’s security procedures, had said that the suspect’s passport was scanned on entry into Nigeria at 2008 (1908GMT), and again, as he boarded the flight to Amsterdam, at 2035.

“He was able to connect that fast because he was not checking in any luggage,” she said.

Other Nigerian officials had said earlier that the suspect’s round-trip ticket was bought in Accra for $2,831 in cash on Dec. 16.

But a senior Ghanaian government official told the BBC that Abdulmutallab spent no fewer than three hours at the MMIA, accusing Nigeria of trying to “pass the buck” in order to cover up its security lapses.

The senior Ghanaian government official said the suspect bought a one-way ticket to Lagos from Accra that would have given him more than three hours at the airport.

Another BBC report monitored in Lagos on Friday, “Nigeria‘s ‘blame game‘ over bomber”, detailed visits paid to the Department of State Security (popularly known as SSS here) headquarters in Abuja and the NIA by the foreing medium. According to the repot, “Nigeria‘s two main intelligence agencies has blamed the other for failing to share key information two months ago about Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the young man who allegedly went on to try to blow up a plane over the United States with nearly 300 people on board.

“Inside the offices two senior DSS officials told the BBC that Nigeria‘s other main security outfit, the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) had not shared key information given to it by the father of the suspect - information which could potentially have stopped Mr Abdulmutallab boarding the plane.

“The two senior DSS officials - who gave me their names and allowed me to take notes throughout a 20-minute interview - said the agency that Mr Abdulmutallab Sr had briefed had been the NIA.

“The DSS officials went on to claim that although their agency was responsible for maintaining airport ”watch-lists” of people under suspicion, the NIA had not shared the father‘s information with them. The DSS officials explained that their agency dealt with Nigeria‘s internal security while the NIA was responsible for external threats.”

The BBC reporter claimed he spoke to the Foreign Affairs Minister, Ojo Maduekwe, about the blame game but that he, (Maduekwe) replied that he would reserve judgement on the truth of the matter pending government enquiries ordered by Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press on Friday quoted officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency as saying that the U.S. gave Nigeria four full-body scanners for its international airports in 2008 to detect explosives and drugs, but none were used on the man suspected of trying to blow up the Detroit-bound flight.

Abdulmutallab, tracked by cameras through the security check, was said to have only gone through a metal detector and had his bag X-rayed when he arrived at Nigeria’s busiest airport to start his journey.

The Soter RS scanners delivers 3-D images that would have shown something hidden under clothing. But a spokesman for the NDLEA, which operates the machines, told The Associated Press that the one at Lagos airport was used sporadically and only on potential narcotics smugglers.

According to the report, word of the scanners’ presence in Nigeria’s four main airports appeared not to have reached top officials, including Harold Demuren, the head of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, who only on Wednesday told reporters that the Federal Government would buy 3-D full-body scanners for the airports, and insisted there were currently none there.

An official of the NDLEA, Ofoyeju Mitchell, told the AP on Thursday that one of the machines was kept in a room near the security checkpoint at Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

He said the scanners were not used on every passenger. Instead, drug agents selected frequent flyers, travellers heading to and from drug shipment points, and people who seemed deceptive or under stress.

“The frequency of checks is determined by the risk level of our assessment , (and) reasonable cause for suspicion,’’ Mitchell said.

Quoting an April 30 U.S. State Department report, AP said the scanners were installed in March, May and June of 2008 ‘’to detect explosives and drugs on passengers.’’

Anambra 2010: Ngige, Soludo, Obi divide Catholic Church
By Nwanosike Onu Published Today News Rating:

The choice of Dr. Chris Ngige, Prof. Charles Soludo and Mr. Peter Obi to contest goverrnoship election in Anambra State by their political parties has thrown the Catholic Church into confusion.

The political parties are the Action Congress (AC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

As it stands, the only candidate among the lot enjoying the full compliments of his church is Dr. Andy Uba of Labour Party who is of the Anglican Communion. Hon Mrs. Uche Ekwunife of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) was born of Anglican parents but married to a Catholic.

The Nation

gathered within the week that most of the clerics are divided on who to support among the candidates. All of them had visited their Bishops and other clergymen, including the Anglican clergy to seek their support in pursuit of their aspirations.

One of the clerics from the Catholic Church, who had a chat with The Nation this week, regretted that all the governorship candidates in the three political parties are their staunch members, who had helped the Catholic Church in one way or the other.

The man of God who spoke in confidence with The Nation said that the church had run into a hitch on whom to support.

According to him, "Dr. Ngige is a knight of the Catholic Church and he did well in his first missionary journey here in the state when nobody knew that the state had such money".

Also, the governor now, Mr. Peter Obi is a devoted catholic and I think he has done marvelously well for the church also and look at Prof. Charles Soludo. The question now, is who do we leave out?" he said.

One of the Bishops in the state was quoted in the week after his meeting with Andy Uba as saying: "Since equity is all about fairness, natural justice and good conscience, Andy Uba should be allowed to govern this state next time".

Before the emergence of Soludo and Ngige, the clerics in the state especially in the Catholics had thrown their full weight behind Obi, whom some of them described as a God-sent.

Apart from the three, other major contenders for the post are either Pentecostal or Anglican.

Prof. Soludo of the PDP is a Catholic, so also are Dr. Ngige, Mr. Peter Obi and Mrs. Ekwunife based on marriage, while Andy Uba is an Anglican. Only Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) is a Pentecostal.

Woman Caught with Strange Baby Onboard Flight
By Chinedu Eze, 01.01.2010

A woman suspected to be a child-trafficker was yesterday caught in a Chanchangi flight 137 from Owerri to Lagos, by passengers who became suspicious when they noticed the lack of bonding and hostility of a five-month-old baby boy to the woman who was pretending to be its mother.

The behaviour of the woman aroused suspicion of the passengers when she could not breastfeed the child or provide a feeding bottle which she was supposed to be feeding it with; rather, she tried to spoon-feed it amid the child's resistance, which heightened the passengers' suspicion that the child might have been stolen.

According to eye-witness account, when the now infuriated passengers literally bombarded her with questions, she confessed that the baby was not hers and admitted that she was into child trafficking racket.

“This baby was stolen by a woman who confessed openly she was into the racket and was identified by Chachangi airline officials. On landing, the woman further confessed she had a man as an accomplice but the man could not be found even after all the passengers had been identified”, an eye-witness told THISDAY.
The flight left Owerri, Imo State at about 3.00 pm and landed at the new domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMA2, at about 4.00 pm.

Spokesman of the airline, Ibrahim Adamu, confirmed the attempted kidnapping and according to the senior cabin crew on board the aircraft, Mr. Suma Inyang, the baby was crying profusely throughout the flight and after disembarkation, prompting the passengers to continue harassing the woman who later confessed to the crime.

The baby, on arrival in Lagos, was handed over to a Chanchangi crew member, Anwal Rufai. But Adamu later explained to THISDAY, “A female lawyer from the United States wanted to adopt the child and asked the younger sister to bring the baby from Owerri to Lagos, but the girl did not know how to handle it and when she was arrested at arrival in Lagos, her sister came with all necessary adoption documents. The matter was handed over to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).”

But the General Manager, Public Affairs, FAAN, Akin Olukunle could not confirm that the baby was handed over to the agency and the management of Bi-Courtney, the operators of MMA2 refused to comment on the matter as its head of communications, Olugbenga Adegbesan told THISDAY he was on leave.
