PapaBrowne: The article was making sense until I read the part bolded in red, then I knew that these alliance planners are just dreamers!!
On what basis do you win some South South and South East states when the three parties involved don't even have offices in any of these states?
Or do they think Edo people will vote Buhari because Oshiomole is in ACN?? Thats a tall dream.
I don't understand why the opposition waits till 2 months before elections before they start dreaming up strategies to counter the PDP. It is not workable!!
PDP is a very popular party amongst the grassroots voters. These grassroot voters don't read newspapers to see all the negatives written about the PDP.

PDP will win the freest and fairest election in Nigeria! They will win because the opposition parties are not serious and know nothing about politics except to run to the pages of newspapers and cry rigging!! If they like make them no go begin prepare for 2015, let them be wasting their time talking about 2011!! Dreams!!
Well spoken!

Where PDP does not win election and is not in power, it came a close second and is the most vibrant & vocal opposition. People forget there is something called structures and PDP is the only party with nationwide spread. They go everywhere to campaign and they have agents & foot soldiers who mobilize everywhere for them unlike other ''regional parties''

I registered yesterday and I've posted my experience in the INEC Voters Registration: Eyewitness Accounts thread.
Politics › Re: INEC Voter Registration: Eyewitness Accounts by semid4lyfe(m): 6:23pm On Jan 23, 2011
Finally registered Yesterday (Saturday) morning without any stress.

During the week I had scouted my area and located 5 registrations centres close to my crib cos I'd made up my mind to register unfailingly on Saturday. Chose not to go to the closest which was just opposite my house cos there was always a crowd there.

Went to the least busy which was like 3 streets away, met 5 peeps waiting to be registered, was given a small slip of paper with a number (10) for me to fill my data (Name, D.O.B, Occupation, State of Origin & Address) and then sat down on a bench & waited patiently for like 30 minutes.

When my no (10) was called, I stood up, gave the babe the slip of paper with my data which she inputed into the pc. Next was the fingerprint scanning and that was smooth sailing too. After that, my face was snapped and then I signed the manual log book and thumbprinted against my signature. My voters card was then printed and given to me WITHOUT LAMINATION (cos the laminating paper finished 2 peeps before it got to my turn. . .got it laminated at a business centre for N50 on my way home).

Everything was smooth sailing and it didn't take me more than 5 minutes to complete the process.

While I was there, two men came and introduced themselves saying they were from the Lagos State Government and they were monitoring the exercise. They took down the address of the registration centre and asked the INEC workers some questions.

Questions like - are you experiencing any problem, what time do you normally resume & close, how long does it take to register a person on the average, how many people do you register averagelly in a day etc etc

Before I leave, I gats commend INEC for getting it's acts together and correcting the early lapses + technical issues cos the process has improved considerably and is noticeably faster and smoother than before.

Also, big-ups to the INEC Adhoc workers @ the place I registered for their friendly and welcoming demeanour. They greeted everyone with a smile, a "welcome" and "please sit down". Their arrangement was also top-notch as they even had three benches for peeps to sit down and wait. The household @ that place must also be commended for providing them with the tables & benches.

Finally, finally. . .Nairalanders need to take a chill pill and be less alarmist cos if one were to go by the posts here, one would lose the motivation to register

Lest I forget, na my "football age" of 18 years I take register grin grin

naijacutee:
More inventions I've toyed around with in my mind :-

Food :-

- I was wondering how feasible it would be to make 'instant' soups (Egusi/Oha/Ogbono/Peppersoup etc) which tastes exactly like the 'non-instant' ones. Who would buy it? Working mums, Bachelors, students at Uni etc. The idea is to prepare soup ingredients up to certain different stages, preserve them at these stages and then vacuum package them to lock in the flavour and nutrients until hot water is added. To cook, just add hot water and meat. As soups are part of our staple diet, this would make life a lot easier for people and this would be cheaper than cooking a N3,500 pot of soup for a big family every 2 days. Most importantly, you would be able to store these for weeks and have them taste fresh everytime you 'cook' soup in 2 minutes smiley

- A machine for washing 'Onubu' (bitterleaf). It takes AGES to was Onubu leaves, and sometimes I wonder who is burdened with this task in busy restaurants. How about inventing a dynamo-powered device with a small tank and a funnel to drip-feed the water into the leaves below. So to wash the leaves, you just wind the handle and put water in the tank. . . and the dynamo uses a rotor to churn the leaves and squeeze out the bitterness
I love these ideas especially the bolded one. Hope it'd become a reality soon.

FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP (GERMANY 2011) LOC TROPHY TOUR IN NIGERIA

http://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/news/newsid=1368256/index.html

https://www.fifa.com/mm//Photo/Tournament/Competition/01/36/80/88/1368088_FULL-LND.jpg

The warmth and camaraderie inside a packed hall at a hotel in Abuja appeared to drive away the cold from the dusty Harmattan wind blowing outside as the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ Trophy made a first-ever appearance in Nigeria.

As part of the FIFA and Local Organising Committee Welcome Tour to all participating nations in the Women’s World Cup Germany 2011, the cream of Nigerian football came together for a special night of celebrations looking ahead to the finals. One of the biggest stars on hand was Nigeria’s captain at the 2002 FIFA World Cup™, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, who seemed thrilled at the reception.

“It is great to be here to see how things are really done in a professional way,” said the Super Eagles great. “Who could have imagined four or five years ago that women’s football would be promoted this way? It is a big credit to the LOC in Germany for coming out with this kind of initiative to promote the competition. And this is deservedly so because in the past couple of years women’s football has come a long way. It keeps improving and so it deserves the entire pomp and pageantry and the atmosphere we got here today.”

Falcons on the rise
It was only fitting that Nigeria was the first African stopover for the most prized diadem in women’s football as the Super Falcons have been the dominant force in the women’s game in Africa since 1991. In fact, they were unbeaten on the continent until 2008 when hosts Equatorial Guinea defeated them on the way to winning the African championship in front of their own fans. However, Nigeria reclaimed their crown in most emphatic fashion by dumping Equatorial Guinea 4-2 in the final of the CAF African Women's Championship late last year in South Africa.

That success has created excitement ahead of Germany 2011, which was obvious for all to see Wednesday evening as captivated fans, players and officials proudly posed with the Women’s World Cup Trophy for snapshots they hope to show their children and grandchildren for years to come. The Welcome Tour spearheaded by the President of the LOC, Steffi Jones, has put the country in the mood for a feast of football that will be served up in nine German cities this summer.

A video playback of Okocha’s wonder goal for Eintracht Frankfurt against Karlsruhe 19 years ago, when he ghosted past half-a-dozen players before firing past the legendary Oliver Khan, most certainly got memories of a golden past flooding back. But hopes are high that the also-played clip of last year’s historic FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup final between hosts Germany and Nigeria could be a forecast of things to come.

Building for the future, quickly
Seven players from the U-20 World Cup made the big jump to the full international team for the African Women’s Championship: Ebere Orji, Ogochi Oparanozie, Amaranchi Okoronkwo, Gloria Iroka, Esther Sunday, Onye Ukonnu and Ochinachi Ohane. Add them to two promising strikers from the FIFA U-17 World Cup team in Trinidad and Tobago, Lovet Ayila and Francisca Udegha, and what coach Eucharia Uche has is a youthful squad looking to make a splash.

A former international striker herself, Uche has already made history as the first female coach to lead Nigeria to a major international trophy and more history beckons for her in Germany. Uche received the official match ball for the 2011 World Cup from LOC chief Steffi Jones and said it signalled a significant moment for her team. “Today, the official match ball has been handed to me as the chief coach of the Nigerian team, and it means that the World Cup in Germany in 2011 is a reality and it is around the corner,” Uche declared. “And with this ball we are again reminded that it is time to start preparation in earnest for the competition.”

Preparations for the event began this week with a residential training camp in Abuja with 30 fresh call-ups. “We have started working with 30 players who were not picked to be part of Africa Women’s Championship in South Africa. We want to watch them thoroughly and see who we could work with at the World Cup,” the coach disclosed. “These players have to prove that they have the stuff to play at the World Cup. There is no automatic shirt for any player, and everyone must prove again why she has to be in the team.”

Nigeria are drawn in a tough first round group at Germany 2011 against defending champions and hosts Germany, along with France and Canada. Warm-up matches have already been arranged with Finland, Hungary and most likely Norway. The country’s best World Cup performance was achieved in 1999, when they reached the last eight of the tournament in the USA.

Nigeria's Super Falcons to play Finland
http://www.kickoff.com/news/19757/nigerias-super-falcons-to-play-finland.php
Nigeria's Super Falcons will play Finland on May 17 in Helsinki as part of their build up for this year's Fifa Women's World Cup in Germany.

Discussions are also going on to play the Hungary women's national team in Nigeria, but the NFF's current financial situation is proving to be a stumbling block.

"We have come to an agreement to play Finland on May 17, and we hope to give these girls the best possible preparation for the World Cup," NFF Technical Committee chairman Christopher Green said.

The Super Falcons have been lumped with hosts Germany, along with Canada and France.
