I will take that with a pinch of salt. This probably their mechanism for dropping heavy news that might lead to visits from the DSS, EFCC, NAVY, Army, Airforce and US Marines put together. ![]() This is what you get when you begin to be seen as suppressing the opposition. Expect it to increase going forward!! Edifyer: |
Well a possible and unfortunate explanation might be that they need the cash to pay for their next arms consignment in readiness for the impending conflict!! I think it was a really bad idea to offer them cash!!!! fiizznation: |
Best news i have read this year!!! i have been singing about the need to work on locally developed systems as well as munitions. Thanfully someone seems to have heard my song. Long may we continue along this path!!!! ![]() bidexiii: |
Oga Henry, I know how you feel and i share your views. However, I guess the other guys also have a point. It is scary to think people can divert money for arms while boys are going to war with 30 AK 47 rounds per man and little or no heavy support. Having said that lets maintain the sanctity of this thread. Lets remember, nobody is corrupt until proven so. All the media trial going on today will lead to nothing!! The only thing that will mean anything is the judgement of the law courts and i think we should all wait and see what can be proved by the prosecuting parties. It is dangerous to assume that just because FG says someone is guilty then he is, dont forget that most people in FG are politicians and most of the people under trial today are opposition. Every accusation must be proven to the satisfaction of the court because am sure we all know that politicians (both FG and opposition) are not always as truthful as they should be. Make we try close this matter and focus on Defense and Security issues. Henry240: |
Chisos!!! Must have been hit with 12.7mm round. Hope this was not on the head of a Nigerian soldier. Suggests use of a heavy sniper rifle. The boys need to be careful if so, it would indicate ISIS influence is growing within Boko Haram!!! bidexiii: |
The Tucano news is great. whether basic or advanced it adds to the overworked fleet of alfa jets we have today in the area of close air support and other ground attack functions. However the one wey de pain me since the boko haram crises start is the plenty verbal reference to self reliance with minimal material contribution towards it. All of these platforms will be meaningless without basic spares, and basic munitions. At the height of the Boko haram advances in 2013/2014, there was a long period when we ran out of bombs, rockets etc for our choppers and jets and of course our good friends USA made it impossible for us to source replenishments. Pilots would go on patrol, see BH massing for attacks and they could only muster a few strafing runs before they would run out of ammunition. BH soon understood and would freeze for the few minutes before the jets ran out of ammo and continue their advance once the jet ran out of fuel. For me we must invest in ability to produce basic bombs and rockets, artillery shells etc. The technology behind these things have not changed significantly since WW2. Why are we making no palpable efforts to advance in these areas? To be honest it is even shameful that we have to import armed trainer aircraft at this point, almost 30 years after our successful experiments with the Nigerian designed and assembled air Beetle. If we were serious how come we have not built on that successful experiment and upgraded it?? Don't be surprised that we will be scrambling to import APCs in 10 years time, while our locally designed and assembled Igirigi APC is abandoned (Infact talk true when last did you see or hear about it in the last 1 year ).Why are we not able to earmark even 10% of our total defense procurement budget for local arms industry development How do we plan to grow without self sufficiency??Conflict is brewing in the Niger Delta now, i can see us learning the same painful lessons all over again. I have said this before on this and other fora, and i no go tire to dey repeat am until somebody somewhere hear!!! iblawi: |
You are correct to some extent, but that excuse is weak. See the pix of Tunisian (or some other North African) Army on this same thread, or see the turnout of US Army soldiers during the fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan. No, in my view, we simply have slightly lax dress discipline. Iblawi1: |
I guess it is good news, but good news that should be celebrated with caution. Why is it now that we seem ready to buy East again (from Pakistan) that our fair weather friends from the West have come around again with their 'cosmetic' smiles? Where were they when our over-used Alpha Jets and Mil choppers were unserviceable and Boko haram took full advantage by building a caliphate in our territory? Now the battle is virtually over and they are offering us a squadron of attack planes. I am willing to bet that if we reject any of their future questionable offers they will quickly make these aircraft unusable by withholding spares etc. We must be guided!!! A matter for another day, is that our Army must learn that while air support is critical , we cannot afford to be as defenseless as we appeared in the dark days of late 2014 when our boys seemed to flee at the mention of BH. Quality of equipment has been addressed to a large extent, and must never be allowed to fall so low ever again. However very critical is the issue of tactics we must develop alternative tactics for infantry support when there is no air cover e.g. use of artillery cover for maneuvering infantry, use of Armour support, use of well trained/equipped snipers in over watch positions etc. In other words, NEVER AGAIN!!! bidexiii: |
Sorry i meant 'God' not 'god' |
giles14:My brother Bidexii, you are doing a great job here. Na only God go reward you and people like Beegeagle, Sirius Black etc. for creating the online records you have created over the last few years. nothing can wipe it away. Having said this, i tend to agree with Giles that the North politicised the Boko Haram matter initially, i dont want to go into too much detail, but the internet never forgets and the records of utterances from the North directed at the last administration are all over the internet. Initially also the last administration saw the crisis as internal politics for so long before it got out of hand. However with all their short comings, we should still give them some credit: - They inherited an army that was ill train and poorly equiped and handed over the military we are using today to gain the current plaudits, if you doubt it look at the early pix of the conflict captured by Beeg or black sirus, and compare to today's pix. - At that time we had next to no snipers, and no special forces at all. That much abused administration over saw the development of strong special forces units across the NA, NAF, NN and DSS. And they did this in a very difficult environment where the US and UK worked actively against them (i still don't understand what they were trying to achieve). - In deed while the darkest days of the military occurred under that administration, the real victory we are putting finishing touches to were won under them e.g. recapture of Mubi, Madagali, Gwoza, Bama, etc. where most of Boko haram heavy equipment and experienced fighters were practically destroyed in conventional battles prior to the elections. My point is there is plenty of blame to go round to every one from - Past leaders (even worse from ex-military leaders who should have known better e.g. OBJ, IBB, Abacha) who handed over a poorly equipped and ill prepared military - Northern leaders who were busy playing politics while their house was burning - FG under GEJ which was too slow to realize that the war was not internal politics, and who failed to reduce corruption in arms procurement etc. But the recovery which the past administration achieved, which has allowed the new administration to inherit a mopping up operation as opposed to full scale war should also merit some recognition. |
This is the real obstacle in a credible war against corruption in Nigeria. i.e. Poor /incompetent law enforcement agencies. With this sort of shoddy prosecution don't be surprised if Saraki smiles all the way to an acquittal if not at the CCT certainly at the appeal or supreme courts. No wonder the man was falling asleep earlier today, the entire process must be so boring to him. |
This ranking is flattering and certainly welcome. However, i have my fears. The ranking is probably driven by our recent re-arming and re-training (people might not agree but the kudos for these go entirely to the much maligned GEJ regime). However until we domesticate the technology and tactics we have acquired (as South Africa has done), our ability to sustain them is questionable. Thus it is very possible that in another 10 years most of the new equipment would be unserviceable like our T55 and vickers MBTs, scorpion light tanks etc. list goes on and on. we must swiftly backward integrate to manufacture the key components of these key weapon systems till we can at least sustain them indefinitely. Also very key is the ability to make the ammunition and projectiles that these weapon systems use. Today (as happened to GEJ's regime) if the major powers refuse to supply us, those tanks and aircraft would run out of ammunition and become useless in not more than 3-6months of combat. These must be our focus in the near to medium future. |
My brother who knows what was conceived when? Except you were on the conception team? My point is conception is great and should be commended, as you have rightly done. Execution is also not easy and should be commended. Hence my commendation of GEJ. Also those who have carried on this commendable practice today (by developing this latest equipment) must be commended as many commenters above me have done. What we must remember is that govts exist to ensure a continuum. All commendable precedents set by the past administrations must be acknowledged, commended and furthered. The unfortunate thing is that APC's style of campaigning has made it so difficult for them to acknowledge anything good from the past administration, such that it is now like going back to vomit for them to even admit they inherited any good policies, ideas or projects. But the saddest thing is when we the 'down trodden' swallow their rubbish and tear ourselves to bits online. Really makes me wonder if this Country can even recover from the consistent decline since 1960!!! naptu2: |
This is commendable. But it is sad that the APC apologists will attempt to make this a tool for criticizing GEJ. This commendable initiative is the just an offshoot of the homemade military innovations born and nourished under GEJ. They gave rise to -the igirigi APC - At least 2 home made seaward patrol boats - locally produced bullet proof jackets - Amebo RPV etc. Lets try and appreciate good advancements from wherever they come!!!! |
Thank you Mallam. When you build your own house you fit collect daily or per hour. Till then abeg make we hear word!!! You cant sit in Abuja and legislate what/how a landlord wey use him own money and sweat build house (with no bank or govt assistance) should charge on his property. |
Good development. Sanity must return. However, what of the sponsors of the killings in agatu land Are we going to reward them with grazing lands?? |
Na wa if unregistered SIMs were responsible for 10,000 deaths(and i am not saying they were not), how many deaths should be attributed to those people who - Opposed the declaration of state of emergency - Stated that 'an attack on Boko haram is an attack on the North' - Insisted the GEJ must withdraw the Army from the North East - Asked for amnesty for Boko Haram Just a few questions bothering me. |
This is sad for Nigeria. Buhari does not seem to know it but his clear bias for his fulani brothers is a death knell for them ultimately!! It is only a matter of time before the host communities take up the policy of proactive self defense, and once that happens the fulani will be outnumbered wherever they are in Nigeria (except in the far north). Trust me they will not last very long !!! Well if that is the path they have chosen, so be it!!!! |
This is a strange request from the security chiefs who wield all the military might in this Country to local chiefs who done have as much as a dagger in their possession. Also how come this same uncompromising approach has not been used on the Fulani militants running riot across the middle belt?? |
[quote author=yhemsy62 post=42254602]"Besides, he noted that ICT had created over 12 million jobs in the country in the last two years, stressing that it could create even more if necessary frameworks were put in place." So GEJ in all his 'cluelessness' created 12 million jobs just 2 years ago? I thought APC said the man did nothing at all!!! We are still watching, the truth will continue to unfold!!!! |
Sad thing is that it took a bunch of oyinbo people braving the difficulties for us to even have these lovely pix. And we are talking about diversification of the economy meanwhile no roads or proper bridges to allow people access many of our tourist attractions. The road still far joo. |
I think you are missing the point. The idea of criticism is corrective. To spur the subject into making corrective measures. We cannot wait 6 years to begin correcting the man we voted in. Only a blind man sees he is walking into a ditch and remains silent, if we were blind during GEJ's time should we again pretend we are blind even though we can now see ![]() kulobyno: |
I still dont get why many of you resort to name calling over simple differences in opinion. By the way, did the members of NASS come there under duress? Did Saraki order them to come? I think we should allow the members of senate to exercise their God given freedom of movement and association. They are perfectly entitled to support Bukola Saraki. It does not in anyway stop the tribunal from doing their job and finding Saraki guilty if indeed he is guilty!!!! The worry among APC members about this show of support tends to show that the whole trial has more to do with removing him from the position of Senate president than any war against corruption!!! advocates: |
El Rufai's immaturity keeps breaking new ground!!! ![]() |
Really sad how Oshiomole keeps showing himself up as an economic illiterate. Terrible!!! |
na so them de tell us funny story. Maybe the 90 boko haram were armed with catapault. dantedante: |
Igbos are bigots, but they are the most expansive and widely traveled tribe in the Country, with assets all over the Country? And by the way, these your comments dont they make you a bigot? Please learn, persons i.e. individuals are bigots not tribes or ethnic groups. i.e. you have yoruba, hausa, ibo, Efik, kanuri etc. bigots, just as you have detribalised persons in all these groups. You become a bigot when you fail to see beyond people's tribes, skin colour, affiliations etc. Based on this definition where would you classify yourself?? uselessgoat: |
I certainly hope he is as aggressive as this in his investments. Because if he goes broke tomorrow some people will come out and shout about how FG does not take care of ex-internationals.Meanwhile the ex-internationals refuse to listen to anyone when the going is good. |
Good work. However, the simple truth is that the hard fighting was done during the days preceding the elections under GEJ. Everything else going on now is just 'mopping up'!!! Lets give credit where it is due!!! |
I agree with you. The main difference is in the finer stuff. They can afford to practice and hone their skills to an extent we are unable to match. e.g. Before the Boko haram crises, how many Nigerian soldiers had actually fired a live RPG? May be 1 person per platoon and even that may be one or two rounds per year. Unfortunately with most weapons practice makes perfect. While an unskilled user would struggle to hit a target with an RPG outside 50m, a skilled operator can actually hit a moving target at those ranges. If this is the case with a simple weapon like the RPG imagine when last any african soldier fired a live ATGM and how often, or a shoulder launched SAM. Whereas a US or Russian soldier would have to fire these weapons compulsorily a minimum number of times per year!! africaken: |
).
They are becoming a nuisance for shouting Biafra up and down while every other tribe keep working together with the north to make Nigeria a better place. No matter how hateful or bitter you are, You will never be allowed to secede until the HAUSA/FULANIS wants and even if they decide to let you go, we the Southwest will not allow Biafra. Not even that Albino looking like an Agama Lizard called Nnamdi Kanu can try poo. The south east will be leveled by the Nigerian Army while your IPOB members will be used for target practice. United we stand, divided we fall. All Igbos should learn from South Sudan
