Looking at these pix of other African Militaries, you see how ubiquitous the gun truck is. Virtually every military has them. Why did we think we didn't need them all along until Boko haram started teaching us a nasty lesson? A significant part of military strategy is regular environmental scans of your neighbors and potential threats to see what they are doing differently. Evidently our generals (both serving and retired ex military who returned as heads of state) were sleeping on the job!!! The saddest thing is that these are far cheaper than light tanks and other options for mobile fire support and could actually be designed and built locally thus saving money and generating employment!!! I buy the argument that these gun trucks wont last 5 minutes in a fight with a modern army, but we all know we were never planning to fight NATO or Warsaw pact anyway. Our area of influence has always been Africa as a whole and West Africa in particular, and against these foes gun trucks would be a significant force multiplier anyway you look at it. Our generals have to wake up and become proactive, we cant afford to experience the sort of embarrassment we suffered in the last 2 years ever again!!! ![]() |
Na wa O!! ![]() These APC people have a way with large numbers sha! ![]() |
The man dey busy dey look camera sef instead of doing the so called exercise!! Way too much propaganda for this government jooo! ![]() |
The whole story is still sounding very foggy to me. - Is it that the contract was unfair to Nigeria and we have modified the contract to save the monies hitherto lost? If so what was the rationale for designing the contract the way it was before? was it fraudulent? If it was then the fraudsters need to be brought to book in courts of law!!! - Is it that the contract was fine, but certain parties have been 'cornering' what should have accrued to Nigeria under the contract? If so is this story saying we have recovered the cash? If so who are the people behind the crime and when are we bringing them to book in a court of law? Which ever it is, the most important thing is to restructure the contracts to achieve efficiency!!! Such that irrespective of who the NNPC boss is, the efficiency does not again drop!!! this is because Kachikwu might not be there for ever, and the next guy might not be as smart or honest as he is!!! |
Sadly the FG and Northern state Govts focus now is to protect the fulanis' cattle from rustlers. No single word or move has been made to rein in the Fulani gunmen. I think we are getting to where we must determine verbally, politically, morally and through our (collective) actions if we want this Country to remain one. Sometimes i hear from our words that we must remain one, but many a time our actions say the exact opposite. We need to quickly make up our minds which one we want!!! |
Oshiomole needed to be cut down to size, and he certainly has been. He picked the wrong person to go to battle with. His shameless name calling and bellicose attitude will only work against ladies and gentlemen like Okonjo iweala and GEJ. He has met his match!!! |
What is the time frame? Work expands to fill any allotted space. Thus if no end date is specified the project shall continue in perpetuity. Hope we wont still be awaiting an outcome in 1 years time!!! |
This just shows how intertwined various administrations are. It would be impossible to probe GEJ without probing OBJ that is the unavoidable truth. In deed the utterances that will spill out once GEJ enters the witness dock would make it impossible to ignore OBJ and even Abdulsalam. What will government do? ignore the revelations? mayorkyzo: |
I see!!! How come the same logic does not apply for GEJ and his cohorts?? Fesomu: |
I see. So why the selective standards? Is it that only ex-military men are allowed to be corrupt, while the rest are not? Abeg make this rain beat all of us ooohh! SLIDEwaxie: |
Good one. If only this can become routine going forward. Also State govts should borrow these practices!!! |
This Thread should be directed at the 36 state Governors who shared a significant percentage of these funds, as well as all you Nigerians who chose to occupy Lagos against subsidy removal. Hope you all are happy with what you have wrought ![]() owobokiri: |
Well Well Well !!! This is an interesting initiative. I guess the plan is to curb corruption by centralizing powers to issue contracts. the truth is that right from the Obasanjo administration, contracts above a certain ceiling can only be approved by the Federal Executive Council. What does this new rule mean? Does it mean even contracts to supply toilet roll for N250,000 per month must come to the President? Unless he has some automatic software for remote approval, this would be a recipe for disaster. Budget implementation has typically hovered between 60-70%, under the previous method. Under this one, we may well see it hit the 25-30% mark. Will be interesting to see how this works.------- If Femi Adesina the denial master does not deny it first!!! |
Wow!!! you believe running a nation rudderless for 53 days is trivial?? People are calling for patience and saying 53 days is too short to judge PMB. However, they miss the point. No sound person is judging his entire 4 year tenure based on 53 days. My understanding is that we are making judgments on specific things left undone. Appointing a cabinet or at least key advisers should not take 1-2 weeks max, so there is no basis for patience after 53 days!!! Each matter or mistake should be criticized as they happen, just as each performance should be commended as they are achieved!!! Anyone who has a problem with that approach should not have run for president (or any other elected office)!!!! blackpanda: |
Guy aba river is the terminal point for most of the drains in aba. once it is cleared and dredged, then flood water will no longer sit on the roads. Then you can repair the roads. Without dredging this river, any thing done on the roads would be a total waste of money. Otoms: |
I suspect the West is scared that APC (their instrument for controlling Nigeria) is looking shaky so early in the game, they have gone to prevail on Jagaban not to rock the boat by fighting PMB and the northern powers. From the shouting headlines on today's punch newspapers it is obvious that Jagaban has turned his guns towards Buhari and his Northern bloc. Interesting times. ![]() |
Guy you watch way too many action movies for your own good, and its beginning to affect you view of the World. For you own good please reduce it ok? dayo23: |
I remember our poor National football team skipper, Vincent Enyeama asking innocently if Kaduna was safe enough (both for players and fans) for an international match. NFF rewarded him with query and a planned public beheading which he refused to attend. With this recent occurrence if we have any shame what so ever, we need to send him and unreserved apology. The worst thing is that we are about to lose the services of arguably Nigeria's best keeper all time over a stupid moot argument. |
For people who are angry about this judgement, i take it you have water tight evidence to the contrary? If you do then please take it to the EFCC so they can re-open the case. If not, then perhaps he might be innocent and we should let him be!! |
Good idea ![]() However hope you wont mind when your enemies accuse you falsely and you are dragged in front of one of those kangaroo courts!! Lets try and think deeply before wishing, it can be dangerous!! ![]() IdisuleOurOwn: |
Sometimes it looks like APC just has to reject anything GEJ commenced, even when it benefits them!! They should go ahead and evolve their own reforms and let us see in what ways it will be different. The pity however will be when we run round in circles and arrive at something not significantly different from the old PIB after fooling around for 12-18 months. Carry on, we are watching. |
These guys are still in campaign mode. Wake me up when they investigate properly, profer proof and get a conviction. |
Long and short is after all the investigation they should let us know the final analysis and who they have found guilty!!! Then we can hail them for living up to their anti-corruption promises. Till then 95% of this story is propaganda and politics!!! |
My brother 4.3t as dividend from a business that sold N8.1t without any initial allocation from the FG (and spent N3.8t on salaries, JV cash calls etc.) is wonderful returns. Pick up the accounts of any quoted company and show me any that returns 50% profit!!! Also lets remember NNPC has over 15 subsidiaries including the 4 refineries etc. That company must have not less than 20,000 employees!! By the way is Oshiomole expecting that a national oil company will return to the President each time they need to spend? If we want NNPC budget approved by the Senate that is ok lets say so - that would be a new demand, as it has never been so in any civil regieme. But bear in mind it will be counter productive and we will end up killing our oil and gas industry completely. Anyway now we know the amount spent, it will be easy to investigate what it was spent on naaah! They should feel free to jail anyone if they can show clear evidence of monies stolen and trace them to any individuals. However, go and write it somewhere, that will never happen because they will find the money was actually spent by NNPC. you may fault their efficiency but they are not fools, people dont just dip hand in the coffers and steal money. Our corruption problems are not that simple. tbaba1234: |
Yes oo! We roll in style. Even when we are going to beg!!! We are willing to CHANGE everything but that. |
Does this include in the middle belt where fulani herdsmen are running amok? |
Interesting point of view on an emotive matter. Most people who attempt to speak on this matter make a fundamental mistake. While very few people remember today, the fact is that Biafra did not attempt to secede by choice. They were forced into it and the records are there to show it. In other words, irrespective of the eloquent argument you have made above, if we experience a third of what the ibos went through in 1966, you will personally lead the charge for secession whatever the chances of success may be. Having said that, it should also be noted that Nigerians would be far better off as one country, than any of the constituent parts can achieve on their own. In other words, if we got Nigeria right it would be a far more successful country than Arewa, Biafra, oduduwa or Ijaw could ever be on their own. However, there are no prizes for guessing that Nigeria will forever struggle as a Nation if we do not get our act together: 1. a country cannot exist when it depends on sharing the resources of one part of the Country, without rewarding that region adequately 2. A Country cannot go far where one part of the Country which contributes little or nothing to the National cake treats political leadership like a birth right 3. A Country cannot go far if it shares positions and roles which should be merit determined according which region a person comes from All of these things make Nigeria an inherently unstable polity, and we must gather the courage to make the sometimes painful decisions required to make this Union an egalitarian one. Until these issues are addressed unfortunately, those of us who ignore these facts and imagine that ethnicity is outdated are in for a rude shock one of these days. |
These cows look malnourished. See the protruding bones in the hind quarters. But then again maybe his ranch is a fattening operation, and this batch has just come in for fattening. |
I dont mind this decision, if they have thought about it carefully. I only insist that any announcement of fuel subsidy removal must start with a sincere apology to GEJ for the hypocrisy we witnessed in Jan 2012 from the APC led opposition at Ojota. Cest Fini!!! |
Where are they planning to raise the money to pay the coaches from? Civil servants havent been paid and these guys expect the Ministry of Sports to have sufficient funds to pay a foreign coach?? Hehehehehe!!! ![]() |
I dont understand the hulla ballo here. Anyone who is not new in Nigeria will wait to see the refineries actually working before making any comments. Please let me know once they have operated smoothly for at least 1 month. |
Good decision. However, leave the Champagne on ice till they are actually sold and proceeds realized. Something tells me these aircraft are in bad shape and may not fetch anywhere near that amount. Hope i am wrong. |
