Very inspiring stuff from balogun, i must confess. He went through the fire and came out as refined diamond. But hey, i'm sure the icelanders have even more touching and inspiring stories, especially considering that most of their players are just parttime footballers Behind Many smiley-faced footballers are rejects, outcasts, people who have had to weather the storm. Infact, lukaku and kasper schmeichel's stories are currently on player's tribune and i've previously read those of pique and rakitic. Thats beside the point. Our game against croatia was embarrasing, to say the least. We lost that match even before the blast of the whistle. We gave too much respect to the croats. Rohr's tactics was that of containment and not really explosive and domineering. Our plan for containment was brilliant, we reduced the croats to a miserly 2 shots on target team, Uzoho was hardly tested. But that was just the extent of it, when we had the ball, we were almost always clueless. The containment plan meant that shehu was meant to babysit perisic, he was meant to always have eyes on perisic which meant that even when we were on the attack, he had to make sure that perisic never went out of his sight. This had an awfully demoralizing effect on moses, who was left to do all the attacking work from the right wing whilst also doubling up with shehu to cage perisic - too much respect .There were times when all moses had to do was beat a player, and lay a pass out wide for a cross but due to the lack of the luxury of an outlet, he had to try to beat them all, sometimes resorting to cheap gimmicks to win freekicks. Very poor from rohr, i must confess. Countries have played germany, played spain, played argentina, played brazil in this same tournament and they did it with more courage than we could muster against a not-so-impressive croatian side. Its going to be a different ball game against iceland, atleast i hope it'll be - scratch that - it must be. Iceland played argentina with so much coordination, especially defensively. They were okay with ceeding possesion to the argentines, and always had more of their players behind the ball. Against Nigeria, there are going to fancy their chances. If not for anything, but for the mere fact that they also need the 3 points. So they'll come at us, much more than they did against argentina. Also, seeing how we concede from setpieces, they are going to try their luck in that aspect also, and with sigurdsson, it is going to be harder to defend. In our attack, we need to be quick in thinking and also try some outside shots. I like the way kroos was always sending thunderbolts against mexico. But for ochoa's brilliance, one would have gone in. A team like iceland wont always give you the luxury of strolling into their 18yard box. Our attackers and attacking midfielders should be inventive and always look to force a shot whenever there is a slight opening. Though practically impossible, a part of me is still praying we qualify, even at the expense of my dear messi. |
klexycole:Nop. Livescores also give predicted lineup before the real lineup is released. When the real lineup is released, you'd see substitutes too. |
FT 5-0. my God!! |

I feel the problem with this team has always been the lack of a mobile box to box midfielder to link-up the defense with attack. Playing mikel - a slow player as AM means that a mobile midfielder has to literally take the ball to his feet due to his poor tracking back. In reality, we have failed in this aspect. In the qualifiers, we made Ndidi sit while onazi roamed. Onazi is another immobile midfielder, so instead of moving with the ball, we resorted to long balls, some of which ended up outside the stadium. Fast forward to our friendlies, we tried Joel in this role and it simply didn't work. We seem to think that we do not need a midfielder that can move with the ball, that we can result to passing the ball right from defensive midfield to attacking midfield. The irony of this is that, we have played against teams that play with compact midfield, that intercept those passes before getting to their targets, that is why we've been complaining that the team seem incapable of stringing 2-3 passes, because the moment they attempt a forward pass, it is almost always intercepted. What the team needs is a midfielder that collects the ball from the DM, moves the ball, creates space with his movements before releasing the ball. Rohr saw this too that is why he deployed iwobi to this role. It was nice of him to pick up on this but the personnel deployment was wrong. Yes iwobi moves the ball well, yes he beats his marker, yes he releases the ball when due but he doesn't have the gas to play such energy sapping role. Playing him there also denies the team of his valuable creativity upfront. My humble deduction; Etebo should play that role, he was born for the role. Before you come for my head, I know about his supposed inconsistencies but those have come in matches where he was play in a restricted AM role. Etebo normally likes running. In the AM role, he doesn't run enough and so doesn't even use up half of his energy reserve. This excess energy that he doesn't let out makes him implode. Etebo has the trickery to evade his markers and he has the ability to release the ball when required. A midfield trio of ndidi-etebo-mikel should have been tried out instead of the Ndidi-iwobi-mikel. The good thing about that midfield is that during the course of the match, Etebo can also drift to the LW, forcing iwobi to move centrally just in front of mikel. I believe that midfield combination is very flexible and can easily be tweaked as the game progresses. In Ndidi and Etebo we have a combination that have the energy to put pressure on opposition midfield and relieve the defense of unnecessary pressure. |
TheGoodJoe:When fullbacks attack, it is normal for DMs to cover for them. It is not a matter of leaving your role, it's a matter of covering gaps. As a matter of fact, some Nigerian coaches mistake this to mean that these players can play as fullbacks. We've seen keshi deploy onazi as a RB before and even Rorh used Ndidi as RB against Zambia. In a three man defense, when a wing back attacks, it is the role of the RCB and LCB to cover for them that is why you would always see azpilicueta temporarily take up the RB position when Moses attacks, but when it comes to the flat four back line, DMs conveniently do this. What guardiola did this season was to reverse this system and have fullbacks slot in as DMs when the DMs attack. |
forgiveness:You just come here looking for what or whom to criticize. If rorh had submitted the list for vetting by NFF, you'd still come here crying about how NFF played politics with the list |
jonsnow92:Burst my brain. |
tbaba1234:Sir tbaba, one thing you should know is that baseless critcism of the super eagles is the new cool. Most of these guys showing up here today to rant about how we would be disgraced out of the world cup do not know jack about this team. Ask them to list the players going to the world cup and you'll see them running to google. They did not follow the team but they feel the need to criticize because, well, it is 'cool'. Secondly, most of them are just scared little babies. They criticize because they are scared, which is okay. Even amongst us, about 70% - i inclusive - are scared for the goalkeeping department. The difference is that, we do not let our fears lead us, rather we embrace healthy optimism. These lot do not want to up their expectations and have their hearts broken so they tow the stone-cold path. In the begining of the football season in europe this season, every reasonable sport follower could tell that a team like chelsea, for instance, was not going to win the champions league. But if you visit the chelsea thread you'll still find folks being optimistic that chelsea would weather the odds and become victorious. Those fans were not reffered to as 'blind patriots' they were hailed as 'true fans' but when it comes to the super eagles, anybody with an iota of optimism becomes a blind patriot and the naysayers become the realists, because, well, it is the super eagles. |
asha80:Mehn after Nigeria, i'm rooting for spain. Too much creativity in that midfield. Lawd! |
LethargiQue:No other option. Umtiti and vermaelen are both out |
You lot baffle me i swear. Dont you guys ever decide to give this whole Ronaldo-messi debate a rest? Its obvious madrid fans will never regard messi as the best and barca fans will never regard ronaldo as the best, so why dont everybody just pocket their opinion and keep holding any belief that makes them sleep well at night? Cos tbh, this cycle of Ronaldo-messi argument is getting boring AF. |
goldfish80:Any time these local coaches speak, i just wonder if it will be back to status quo by the time we revert back to a local coach. I mean, look at the names siasia listed the other day, look at salisu's list and look at this name Amokachi is calling. No jokes, some forumites here will draw up a better list. |
monerozi5590: did you actually say this with a straight face? |
Dear white people. I watch this show basically for the dialogues. Pretty deep. |

jonsnow92:iniesta woulda been a lot more dangerous this season if he was managed properly. Unfortunately, EV chose to play him even in the most unnecessary of times. |
koice:I met a brick wall with that first link
|
koice:I've been searching for 480p format of gomorra with no success. Can you help, please? |
rationalmind:There's going to be a third season? Well, i'm happy a great show will return. But just like you, i fail to see the direction they'd go. The show gave me closure. |
Atlanta. This Tracy is one crazy ass SOB |
Mickael2:Alves played for Sevilla, Barcelona, juventus and Psg. That's 3 different countries. |
02emrys:You don't understand the story in the album. Aside talking about drug addiction, Cole takes a serious swipe at trap music. Then in an entirely satirical manner, he uses trap music in his own typical fashion to pass deep messages. But this he does mainly in the 1st few songs of the album. In the 2nd half you see the real j.cole. Songs like Brackets, once an addict, window's pain, 1985 are dope typical j.Cole songs. |
The resident is peaking pretty nicely |
Martz101:Unfortunately, this is an argument I don't wish to delve into. |
Taliban: ![]() This table you are shaking ehn.. But honestly I think you guys are grossly misrepresenting the stance of many here. I don't think anybody outrightly came out to say Moses is better than Salah, the bone of contention was about who was more deserving of the African best award, in other words, who had a better season. Many people argued for Vic Mo because of what he was able to achieve last season. Salah is very deserving of the balon d'Or this year, it doesn't mean he's in the category of messi or ronaldo or even Neymar, it just means he had a better season. |
Humility017:I think Moses scored a FK in the Afcon qualifier against Cameroon that was ruled out as off even though mikel(the player that was off) didn't touch the ball. |
Hueyreckless0007:Thanks for this link. Didn't realize tfpdl recently uploaded the series, I'm sure I've checked there numerous times before |
Rexnegro:Well thanks.. How many episodes are in s2 cos I'm seeing just 6 |
Rexnegro:How large are they? |
