Well Mascherano was never a barca type of player and did every "bad move' Vidal does and more but he was still considered successful at Barca.

Mascherano's passing was sublime. It did help that he started out as a midfielder, and for a club like barca that places emphasis on building from the back, it would be a bit of a stretch to say he "did every bad move and more".

If the move materializes (I still have doubt it would) I see him doing well, Barça create load of chances.

Barcelona have lined up young striking targets for the summer. Players like jovic, Werner, maxi Gomez, dolberg. But since their only back-up striker is leaving this January, they need short term fixes.

If this deal materializes, it will only be a short fix for barca, probably a 6months loan deal (as was the case with murillo). In that six months, i doubt Ighalo will play up to 10games.

It's always a 433 though. The third CB thing only happens when we want to start transition from the back. Numerical superiority aids smooth transitioning.

I wonder why barca fans online are just realizing this tactics, our DMs have been playing as the 3rd central defender all season.

I pointed this out in the beginning of the season

Busquets played at least 3 positions yesterday. When we were building from the back we revert to a 343 formation. Busquets slots in between pique and vermaelen as the third CB, semedo and alba as side midfielders.

When we were on the defensive, busquets played as a DM, trying to block passing lanes and intercept passes.

When we were attacking, busquets played as a CM/AM.

Give the man some credit.

this season ok, even though he has never been a line hugging pure winger like Malcolm or Dembele...

Line huggers are a rarity in modern day football. Modern coaches are gradually embracing the idea of inside forwards. Moreover, a false9 + a line hugger is disaster in waiting. The false 9 formation requires an inside forward to always drive in when the false striker joins the midfield.

For all the talk of dembele being a line hugger, he is gradually metamorphosing into an inside forward, especially when he plays on the left. This is because, in barca, fullbacks, not wingers are mandated with keeping width, and alba does this excellently so dembele is usually forced to play an inside role. On the right however, semedo's attacking is still suspect so once in a while, dembele hugs the line.

We're still getting de jong. Abidal already said the signing of Rabiot won't hinder de jong's pursuit. Rakitic, rafinha and most likely Denis are all leaving in the summer. Lots of space will free up.
Deligt's deal already fell through couple of weeks ago, it was only right we went for todibo

I don't see us selling.

Munir has already agreed a deal with sevilla and I'm yet to read any concrete attempt to sign a striker. It is looking more likely that messi would be moved to the f9 role.

Even if it doesn't play out this way, i see messi getting a less physically demanding role as from next season a la ronaldo at Madrid and juve. And with valverde's contract running out in the summer, i seriously see messi's role changing next season under a new manager.

Either ways, this leaves us with three wingers (dembele, coutinho and malcom), no way we are selling malcom.

I would personally upvote a move to Sevilla or betis. Machin and setien are two coaches with an attacking philosophy I really admire. But villareal aren't also as bad as their position on the table suggests.
