forgiveness:I do not argue to win arguments, I argue to learn. I'm of the opinion that Ike uche did nothing special when he was invited, I presented my facts, if you have a superior argument, present it and stop harping on one penalty goal like a broken record. Ike uche played against congo, Emenike earned a penalty, ike uche stepped up and scored. Without uche that penalty would have been earned, without uche, there is a high probability the penalty would have been converted. In the second half, Aaron Samuel was introduced and he scored. Without uche he would have still scored In the game against south Africa Sone Aluko scored 2 brilliant goals. Without uche he would have scored. So what exactly was the special thing uche did that we would not have done without him? He simply did not live up to the hype. Before his invitation, he was hyped as the prince that was promised, the press rolled out the red carpet, poets sang his praise, women from otueke to chibok threatened to protest naked if he wasn't invited. This was the kind of hype uche rode on to the Super Eagles camp, with that kind of hype he should be singlehandedly winning us 3 points but alas the only thing we remember him for is scoring a penalty he did not earn. Lecture me on how Ike uche swung in like super man and single-handedly qualify us for the nations cup. Speak, oh yea wise one, I am listening. |

edi287:Like somebody said, it is better for these young players to be average than for the old ones. The average performances of these young stars will serve as valuable experience for the future. What future do we have with someone like Martins? |
forgiveness:Here you go again. Stop living on past glory, this is the same way you've been embarrassing yourself with Alampasu's clean sheet against Porto 2years ago now it's uche's top scorer award in 2010. Uche was invited in 2014 for nations cup qualifiers, he did nothing special. Against congo he scored from the penalty spot, he did not win the penalty, emenike did. Against south Africa, we needed Sone Aluko's brilliance to earn a draw, again ike uche was on the pitch, nothing special. Truth is we have a special spot for certain players and when those players don't live up to expectations, we try to find certain excuses, just as you are using injury as an excuse to justify haruna's atrocious performance. Was haruna certified fit or not for the game? That haruna's performance was one of the worst performances I have ever seen from a professional. Injury or not, he flopped. Finito |

safarigirl:Remember the cries for ike uche? When he was finally invited what did he do? What about Lukman Haruna? That one was so poor he couldn't even complete 1st half before he was subbed off. The fans will always feel they're better players not invited. The grass is always greener at the other side, typical Nigerian mentality. |
denniece1:RWB. zappacosta was the LWB |
forgiveness:Name your 3 |
forgiveness:That is a ridiculous assertion bro. The national team does not revolve around Iheanacho, the National team is bigger than any one individual. Many people here adore Alampasu and were always at the forefront, leading calls for his promotion to first choice, but since the emergence of uzoho, such calls have reduced. I promise you this, if we have guys that are clearly ahead of Iheanacho, many wouldn't bat an eyelid if he is excluded. |
HPS3:It's not as if Madrid fans are praying for us to get basel in the round of 16 though. Here is what a Madrid fan had to say of the copa del rey draws.. Still in good contention for CDR and UCL.Hope celta doesn't disappoint you guys as massively as Ronaldo is doing |
junnyjake:Why then were you given the role to scout for players? Why is rohr touring Europe to find new players? I believe we need 2-3 new players to bolster the squad. |
safarigirl:Probably not thin in terms of the number of defenders at our disposal but a bit thin in the depth of quality in central defence. We have several options at wing back but we are still yet to see somebody really step up as a quality back up at CB except maybe for awaziem. That is why Rohr is still searching for a CB and maybe that is what the writer meant by 'thin'. |
safarigirl:The writer probably watched our game against Argentina and came to that conclusion. In the qualifiers, we only conceded 2goals from open play. But you have to agree that balogun needs to get in shape before the world cup. He's been suspect lately. |
GROUP D https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/inline-image/public/argentina_banner.png?itok=Yd4_DHnd FIFA ranking: 4 The lowdown La Albiceleste were expected to stroll through qualifying but found life extremely difficult, were managed by three different coaches and eventually only made certain of their place in Russia on the final matchday, winning 3-1 in Ecuador. Incredibly for a country with countless top-class strikers, they had the second-worst attacking record in South America – and the worst at home with just nine goals in nine matches. It remains to be seen who will partner Lionel Messi at the tournament, but Paulo Dybala is seemingly destined for the bench and Gonzalo Higuain might be discarded altogether. With question marks hovering over the quality in defence and midfield, hopes are low – but isn't that somewhat reminiscent of Brazil going into the 2002 World Cup? Key player: Lionel Messi https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/inline-image/public/messi_w.jpg?itok=nC7yWv5w Simply, Argentina wouldn't have made it to this tournament without the Barcelona superstar. Messi – who temporarily retired from the national team after losing in the 2016 Copa America Final – scored seven goals in the qualifiers, including the crucial hat-trick in Ecuador. This will be a fourth World Cup for the 30-year-old genius – but can he finally win a title for his country? It's the only trinket missing from a glorious career... but a big one. https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/inline-image/public/iceland_banner.png?itok=HImDwX5c FIFA ranking: 22 The lowdown After starring at Euro 2016 and reaching the quarter-finals at the expense of England, Iceland became the smallest country (by population) ever to qualify for the World Cup, finishing top of a tough group ahead of Croatia, Ukraine and Turkey. Swedish coach Lars Lagerback might have left after the adventure in France, but Heimir Hallgrimsson – who worked alongside him – proved a worthy successor in his own right. There are few big names in the squad, but the team works perfectly as a unit, and their self confidence is sky high. Expect their magnificent fans to make a lot of headlines too. Key player: Gylfi Sigurdsson https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/inline-image/public/gylfi_w.jpg?itok=QptVFXup The playmaker is struggling to find his feet at Everton after a big transfer from Swansea, but Icelandic fans hope that he will be in top form come summer. Intelligent, blessed with magnificent vision and a dead-ball specialist, Sigurdsson is the main source of creativity. Iceland wouldn't be the same without him. https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/inline-image/public/croatia_banner.png?itok=MudNcmmj FIFA ranking: 17 The lowdown Not helped by bad blood between fans and FA, and influenced by politics behind the scenes, this talented squad isn't always able to deliver. The Croats only finished second behind Iceland in the group; luckily, they were drawn against Greece in the play-offs and new coach Zlatko Dalic – who has no high-level experience whatsoever – celebrated after the 4-1 aggregate win. The midfield and attack look fabulous on paper, with Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic complementing each other well. But there are question marks about the defence, and the pressure might be too much. Key player: Luka Modric https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/inline-image/public/modric_w.jpg?itok=bIiOeT9U The 32-year-old veteran has sparkled for Real Madrid in recent seasons – a key midfield performer in a side winning two Champions League trophies in a row. He’s now widely considered one of the best players in the world in his position. Modric isn't always popular in his homeland because of political issues, mind you. https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/inline-image/public/nigeria_banner.png?itok=WkcnktAv FIFA ranking: 50 The lowdown The Super Eagles have only missed one World Cup tournament since 1994, and they overcame a very difficult draw on paper to make it through again this time. Eliminating African champions Cameroon and heavily favoured Algeria with ease, the team led by experienced German coach Gernot Rohr could be dangerous opponents in Russia. The squad should be quite youthful, with rising stars like Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi likely to shine. Players like Ahmed Musa (25) and Victor Moses (26) feel like veterans in comparison. Defence has always been the biggest problem for Nigeria, though, and it looks a bit thin again. Key player: John Obi Mikel https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/inline-image/public/mikel_w.jpg?itok=AQsFk_7S The former Chelsea midfielder is plying his trade in China now, and there’s a feeling that he’s past his best – but that's wrong. For Nigeria he’s not only the captain, but also the main source of improvisation as a playmaker – a role that would have been unthinkable at Stamford Bridge. He is the ultimate leader as well, and at the age of 31 next summer, is still capable of dominating games. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/world-cup-2018-group-group-what-you-need-know?page=0%2C1 |
10 underrated Premier League players you didn’t realise make their teams tick 2. WILFRED NDIDI (LEICESTER) https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/inline-image/public/wind.jpg?itok=ht7e494X Not completely unlike the player he was signed to replace, N’Golo Kante, the 20-year-old Ndidi has gone largely unnoticed at Leicester despite consistently dominating central midfield. Since signing from Belgian side Genk for £15m in January 2017, Ndidi has started 31 of the Foxes' 32 league matches – a remarkable total for such a young player in a new country. During his time in England, Ndidi has won more tackles – 127 – than any other player in the division, which is the sort of statistic that eventually helped Kante rise to fame. It's only a matter of time before this athletic and intelligent central midfielder becomes one of the most sought-after young footballers in Europe. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/10-underrated-premier-league-players-you-didnt-realise-make-their-teams-tick |
safarigirl:Matter of fact we won a more improved and stable Cameroonian squad, coming into the qualifiers as African champions. This is in sharp contrast to the Cameroonian side they met, which was held back by loads of controversies. From assou-ekotto headbutting his teammate to Alex song getting a 'sani keitaish' red card, added to the serious allegations of match-fixing levelled against them, what you get is a Cameroonian side that would have fallen to even the Iranian team. |
Valencia is losing to a 10-man getafe btw. What a week!! |
biomustry:Another Neymar saga all over again. They never learn |
Forgetting the sub-par performance of Spanish clubs in Europe this season, the league has been very competitive. All matches between the top 4 sides this season have ended in draws. Madrid 2-2 valencia Atletico 0-0 madrid Atletico 1-1 Barcelona Barcelona 1-1 valencia Atletico 0-0 valencia |

Well, they should just give the league to Madrid already. No need competing in a league that is clearly against you. #Thespanishagenda |
I see people already underrating Iceland. It should be noted that they were in the same qualifying group as Croatia and topped the group. I see them as the trickiest, same way Iran was the trickiest in our 2014 group and Zambia was the trickiest in our qualifying rounds. The most underrated is always the trickiest. |
