Yes, I do.

As a matter of fact, most of our actions are tightly wrapped up in our emotions whether we believe it or not. I do not believe myself to be more biased than other forum administrators. I just happen to display more emotion because the Nairaland Forum is my full time venture, therefore anyone who is troubling the forum is troubling me. It's not just business, it's very personal!
RomanceRe: Girl Wants To Marry Earlier Than Boyfriend, Etc. by Seun(mod): 3:42pm On Aug 30, 2005
Two issues have been raised:
- The girl wants to get married in her early twenties, the guy wants to get married later.
- The girl wants to travel abroad to raise her family, the guy wants to stay here forever.

Therefore they should break up as soon as possible. The earlier, the better. They should stop decieving themselves, because their life goals are simply. Love is a feeling that can be easily recreated with another person if the right conditions are there, therefore we should never make foolish sacrifices in the name of love. This boy and girl are not a good match for marriage; they should break up as soon as possible.

The girls' dream of getting married and raising kids early is very wise. There is something called biological clock and if you miss it has a lady is becomes much, much harder to get hooked up. If your target is to get married in your early twenties you mgith end up being late by a few years and getting married by 26 or 27, which is still ok. But if you aim to get married at 27 then you might never get married - or might eventually have to settle for a husband you don't really respect.

My advice to the girl; she should go and look for a husband that fits her dreams. Better still, she should travel out in her early twenties and when she gets there look for someone nice to settle down with.

My advice to the guy: if you love her, let her go. Do you believe in God? Well, if you do I assure you that God will give you someone better to love and to cherish for life, because this one is not your own. Take the wise path and jump ship as soon as possible. Love is not meant to be painful.

At this point in the time, I'm the one that makes all the decisions concerning the Nairaland Forum. Before each decision, I consult trusted users, I consult google, and I consult US-based administrators of other forums. But at the end of the day, I'm the one who has to agonize over the decision, make the decision, and bear responsibility for the consequences!

I cannot tell you if we have legal advisers or not.

Yes, the administrator operates as a benevolent dictator because this is an efficient way to operate. Most business proprietors operate the same way!

A benevolent dictator is "an undemocratic or authoritarian leader who exercises his or her political power for the benefit of the people rather than exclusively for his or her own self-interest or benefit, or for the benefit of only a small portion of the people."

Nairaland GeneralRe: What Would You Want To Be Remembered For? by Seun(mod): 10:11pm On Aug 29, 2005
I want to be remembered as the founder of that Nigerian company that rubs shoulders as an equal with world giants like Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Dell, Sony, Daimler-Chrysler, and Boeing.

I don't think the name is correct. There is no Columbus University on the Virgin Islands. Or can you give us a link to their website?

PoliticsRe: Will Atiku Get the Boot Soon? by Seun(mod): 11:45pm On Aug 28, 2005
On a recent TV appearance, President Obasanjo criticized one ofVP Atiku's statements in the media saying that there was "misrepresentation, misinformation, m___". This seems in line with what you're "foreseeing".

RomanceRe: Dating An Engaged 18-year-old Man by Seun(mod): 6:52pm On Aug 28, 2005
It's not a problem. You're going to find new friends. Bring her here or at least let me talk to her or chat or something, please.

Layi: these are girls, not guys. Girls are different or else I would have said leave them alone.

layi:
She could say u caused the failure since u never wanted the relationship to suceed
What about being yourself and standing by your beliefs. Is that not a sign of good character? That small girl is going to get hurt, and that concerns me. But what concerns me more is that she's hurting a third party and let's face is the whole marriage is rubbish. Both girls should dump the "husband to be". Where are their parents?!

Or, Nike, can you drag them here so we can talk into them?
PoliticsRe: Does Ethnicity Matter for Governorship? by Seun(mod): 6:13pm On Aug 28, 2005
Personally, I have no problem with Bill Clinton coming to Nigeria to be our president, but the issue is that most people might not be sure about where his loyalties lie. We might be afraid that he'll promote American insterests rather than ours.

This may be the same reason why it's difficult for an Ibo man to become the governor or a Hausa state. How? Well, the Hausa people will be concerned that the Ibo man would create policies to favor "his own people" and not the Hausas. This ethnicity issue is a big problem in this country that cannot be easily solved.
CultureRe: Google in Yoruba by Seun(mod): 5:53pm On Aug 28, 2005
CultureShould We Promote Nigerian Languages More? by Seun(mod): 5:52pm On Aug 28, 2005
This issue came up while we were discussing the Yoruba Version of the Google Search Engine. While some people were applauding it as a step in the right direction, others were convinced that it's not an important. While some people people want us to support our local languages more, others want us to embrace English and use it to accelerate our development.

I belong to the school of thought that language is a elic of history and nothing more. I do not believe that my language or ethnicity defines me, because I believe we are all individuals in this world. Ultimately, I want to learn the language that will enable me to develop faster and I believe that this language is English, not Yoruba, Hausa, Ibo, or even Pidgin.

English, afterall, is the language of the Internet, the language of textbooks, and the official language we all learn in school. It is our lingua franca and fortunately for us, it is the language of many dominant nations in the emerging world economy; countries we will do well to form alliances with and learn from. I do not see why we would want to waste time rewriting the Internet, our textbooks, et cetera in Yoruba, Ibo, Hausa or Pidgin just because we want to "promote our culture".

So my current belief is that efforts to promote our Nigerian languages are a waste of time and nothing more. Do you disagree? Can you shed more light on this issue?

Try doing something drastic like threatening not talk to her until this is resolved? And, please, will somebody tell the 18 year old "man" to call off the wedding and go to a counselor?
PoliticsRe: Separation of Religion and Government by Seun(mod): 1:59pm On Aug 28, 2005
The problem with that is that Islam as a religion, like the biblical old testament Jewish religion, is tightly tied to the government. Just as their are laws in the old testament bible, there are laws that are part and parcel of Islam and those laws are known as Sharia. So that's one of the major differences between Islam and Christianity and why Islamic states find it difficult to separate the two.

Nairaland GeneralRe: To Develop Information Technology in Nigeria by Seun(mod): 1:48pm On Aug 28, 2005
What all of you are trying to say is that Cheap Internet Access, maybe even broadband, will go a long way in helping Nigeria's development in the Infotech Sector. And cheaper telecommunications generally. I agree wholeheartedly with you!

Another thing that will help is reliable supply of electricity (solving the NEPA problem!)
FamilyRe: Enlighten Me With Your Opinion About My Marriage by Seun(mod): 1:40pm On Aug 28, 2005
And whatever you do, never ever threaten the man's pride or ego. Even though you might feel he's "irresponsible" or something, do not use words that make him feel small or else he will be unable to work out these problems with you: he'd be too busy trying to prove that he's the man! As long as he remains a man, do not fall for the temptation of belittling him with words (nagging 2.0).

So please, I reiterate my earlier point, your marriage needs a counselor. I have people in my family who are part-time marriage counselors so I feel I know what cases are simple and what cases are not simple. Yours is not simple. So please, o please, drag your husband to a marriage counselor tommorrow morning, because we do not want you to come back in 6 months to tell us you're getting a divorce.
