Nairaland GeneralRe: New Nairaland Features to Attract Your Friends? by Seun(mod): 1:08pm On Aug 22, 2005
I was on this other Nigerian Forum recently and this girl's avatar included a prominent display of her "twins". I can't remember what the discussion was about, but I sure do remember her avatar! Now isn't that what you call distracting? And there's another forum I know where all the men have pictures of hot girls on their avatars, with pictures of their backsides/"twins" on display. It's just not not worth it. In my experience, they are definitely distracting!
CareerRe: Who Is Your Role Model? by Seun(mod): 1:01pm On Aug 22, 2005
My role model for a long time has been Bill Gates, because he's so rich and a ruthless competitor, yet he has an ok family life. Compared to someone like Bill Gates, hollywood actors are poor small boys/girls, yet they can't hold on to their relationships. Yet this rich, extremely aggressive businessman is able to hold on to his own family? Now that's something I admire. How rich, you say? Rich enough to singlehandedly pay Nigeria's debts.

Now let me explain why I believe in being rich. Bill gates started out as a business-teen. Other programmers were coding for love, he started out coding for money. At 19 or so he wrote a popular essay that programmers should stop copying each others' programs without paying for it; that programs should not be free! He didn't start out by giving money away or pursuing social causes; as a true capitalist he started out with an aggressive plan to make lots of money. Yet, now that he is rich, he is able to fund the largest charity organization in the world - the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Now that is a model I'd love to copy: make lots of money, and then when you're tired of making money, start giving it away in a way that makes a real difference in the world. A tangible, noticeable difference. That's why I love Bill Gates - he shows that you can pursue money when you are young and then when you're older the money can be diverted to good causes. What he is able to do with his money is much more than what you can do by begging others to give away money!

Nairaland GeneralRe: New Nairaland Features to Attract Your Friends? by Seun(mod): 6:12pm On Aug 21, 2005
Actually, the reason I don't support avatars is that they can be distracting. Yes, at first they seem cool but on the long run distracting avatars and signatures reduce the value of the community. And once I allow avatars I won't be able to remove them again, so I need to be sure that it's the right direction.

Yes, it would be lovely to offer downloads of Nigerian music tracks but, man, how do I purchase the rights to these works? They aren't mine!
CareerWho Is Your Role Model? by Seun(mod): 5:22pm On Aug 21, 2005
Most of us have role models - people we look up to and will like to emulate in one way or the other. Your role model might be:
- Someone in your family, for example your mother or father.
- A popular political figure, for example Bill Clinton or Saddan Hussein.
- A popular social figure like Mother Theresa, or Tai Solarin.
- A showbiz personality like Genevieve Nnaji or Liz Benson.
- A businessman like Dangote or Bill Gates.
- Someone else who projects an image of what you'd like to become.

So who is your role model? Or do you have more than one? Please, tell us!
Nairaland GeneralRe: None of God's Creations are Ugly, Except for Roaches by Seun(mod): 4:28am On Aug 21, 2005
Off-topic conversations are strictly prohibited on the forum. The tendency is for such posts to get deleted instead of being moved into the chatterbox. I have had to delete hundreds of such posts in the past 2-3 days, and it's not much fun, so I've started banning people who make off-topic posts. Hope you've seen the rules!
FamilyRe: How to Deal With a Wife That Nags a Lot by Seun(mod): 4:14am On Aug 21, 2005
Jumping into the lagoon is more likely to work. Nags will always be nags. I've lived 23 years and I've met a lot of them and live with some, but I have never met a nag that changed her ways.
WebmastersRe: The 1st Free Domain Name & Website Competition by Seun(mod): 10:44pm On Aug 20, 2005
Maybe she thought we gave her the prize because we wanted to go out with her or something, and so she thought she could behave anyhow towards us.

Frankly I regret that I influenced Kazey to make her one of our winners. I'm not a rich man so when I give something out I expect at least some appreciation.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Seun - Seun Osewa, Nairaland Forum Website Administrator by Seun(mod): 4:38am On Aug 20, 2005
Hello,

I'm thinking of replacing the post count with something I call "post frequency". Post frequency represents the number of days in which you've been active since you started using the site.

E.g. if you've been a member for 3 months and have posted on the forum 20 days during that period your post frequency will be 20.

What do you think?

TravelRe: To Wed in Victoria Island by Seun(mod): 3:02am On Aug 20, 2005
If you're living in Europe and your wife is in Europe, coming to Nigeria to wed is probably not such a good idea! Just do it over there and send us the pictures.

Unless, of course, you have your close family in Nigeria. And in that case, they'll be the ones to organize your wedding ceremony whether you like it or not!

So our close family in Nigeria, if any, would be in the best position to answer your question. If you don't have any, then I advice you to do your have your wedding in Europe then take lots of pretty pictures for us.

As a third party you should be in a position to help them understand each other. Having expressed my displeasure about nagging, it turns out that it's necessary to first of all know what the woman's problem with her husband is. i am sure that this would require a lot of patience.
