JMAN05: Criticism is in order but outright disingenuousness is sickening. You just displayed that. Where did I go wrong, in your view? I honestly do believe everything I've said here. The evidence for the resurrection is objectively very weak. opineflu: repent from your blasphemy..and accept JESUS as ur lord and Saviour...carry ur cross with no shame. This is a warning, you wont say u were never told, cause JESUS Has mark today.Your intelligence would not save u on the last day if you refuse Apologies for offending you. I'd rather not offend people if I can help it. But not at the expense of telling the truth. Image123: Jesus told the world about His message Himself for about three years, with mighty signs and wonders even. They ended up hating Him and ultimately crucifying Him. What is that thing, they say about doing the same thing and expecting something different again? Be a good adviser mr man. Do you honestly believe that Jesus in his revived body wouldn't have preached the gospel far more effectively than his disciples with their tale? robosky02: I don't agree with your statement here that he was doing nothing check this Luke 2: 51 - 52 51Then He went down to Nazareth with them and was subject to them. But His mother treasured up all these things in her heart. 52And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. this doesn't sound like doing nothing "Growing in stature" and wisdom when you are supposed to be the Eternal Son of God who knows all things is very close to doing nothing. favouryemmy: Seun, I understand that you may have gone through some things that made you not to want to believe in God any longer. What many of us do sometimes when things we expect don't happen is that we are fast to blame God. I used to do that before but I realized God is never to blame and I stopped doing so. Jesus will reveal Himself to you again. Even if I don't say it, it will happen. Just remember, you once believed and you can believe again. Just have an open mind when He comes back to do so. Jesus loves you even in your current unbelief. I know this is meant as a message of goodwill, and I accept it, but believing something that is not true is likely to have bad consequences. Harvard13: d romans hated that Jesus was king so there is no chance they would have collected bribe to let go of christs body as it would have supported d disciples claim The Romans didn't hate Jesus. They thought he was crazy. third, the women wouldnt have known if the soldiers would open the tomb. naturally u dont expect dem to willingly open d tomb so its no coincidence that dey were worried. If that was the case, Mark would have said, "the women were worried that the soldiers might not help them to roll away the stone". kingcity: so you believed that the disciple stole the body of someone u didn't believe exist? If we assume that the biblical Jesus was based on a real person, it's far more likely that the body was stolen than that he rose from the dead. favouryemmy: Seun, you said no one has refuted your claims. Read this with an open mind http://www.bible.ca/d-resurrection-evidence-Josh-McDowell.htm Why open mind and not critical mind? I was entirely unconvinced by that. It's not objective at all. Explaining how would take too long. 4everGod1: Yes! He cannot be termed a proud Atheist if even his name is in contradiction. Atheists are not obligated to have secular names. |

Harvard13: If you read your bible well, you will know that he was with the father initially. he only took human body for a purpose (to suffer and die for mankind) and after he had done that, he went back According to the bible, Jesus was on earth for 33 years before he went to suffer and die for mankind, which you say was his purpose. Spending a few more years preaching openly with his resurrected body to convert the whole world seems like a no-brainer. What has he been doing in heaven for 2000 years that is more important than converting the whole world? |

4evergod2: They have even tried applying their favourite escape route " QUANTUM THEORY" and that also has failed. Rather what it did was create a whole new branch of science called BIOCENTRICS but ironically the same biocentrics has proven the existence of consciousness outside the body as you cannot link the mind to the brain. Biocentrics is not a branch of science. It's a hypothesis by a medical doctor (not a real scientist) for which I can find no evidence. You say science can still prove consciousness? They have been trying to do since pre 1930 and have been unable to. Scientists have learnt a lot about consciousness. We've learnt how various chemicals and parts of the brain affect our conscious feelings, etc. That's why we now have effective treatments for depression, schizophrenia, etc. What we don't understand is self-awareness specifically. What makes us different from robots? What makes us feel that we are "real" while a computer program is just code no matter how smart it is? The point is that there is always something that science can't explain, but you can't say "therefore God" because science may figure it out tomorrow. |

UyiIredia: It's actually one of the arguments I posted earlier on this thread
https://www.nairaland.com/2353987/three-arguments-gods-existence
The argument from consciousness: Consciousness is not a physical thing. It's also called awareness and that's not physical. It's not a physical thing that you can observe and measure but is the means by which you observe and measure. It's critical to my argument that consciousness be understood as something immaterial, which it actually is, going by its definition. If you think about it all knowledge stems from consciousness because to truly know anything you must be aware of it. You cannot know what you are not aware of.
Now if atheists are right then there should be no consciousness at all. In a purely physical world consciousness would be the anathema, something strange. But there is consciousness and therefore the atheist is not correct. Consciousness being immaterial cannot be explained by physical means. It did not evolve since evolution applies to physical beings. It does not spontaenously emerge because emergence typically deals with how complex PHYSICAL systems arise from simpler precursors. Atheism being materialistic in nature has nothing to offer to explain mental awareness. But the theist believing in an eternal conscious God has a means to explain consciousness. And that my friends wraps up my argument.
Cc thehomer Seun cloudgoddess Blaqsmith dalaman ichommy HardMirror johnydon22 onetrack joseph1013 Kay17 plaetton Davien ValentineMary lepasharon reallest freecocoa K9blunt Amusaopeyemi It is true that consciousness isn't well understood by science at this time. We can make robots that behave like conscious beings, but we do not believe they have the same sense of self-awareness that animals and people seem to have. This is absolutely true. But the inability of science to explain something doesn't prove the existence of God. There was a time when we could not explain how life came to be, thunder & lightning, how birds fly, how bats navigate without light, rainbows, etc. People took our inability to explain those things as a sign of the existence of God, but now we understand them through science. We may eventually understand consciousness through science. Your speculations about the nature of consciousness are just speculations. There's no evidence that they are correct. I could come up with mine, and they would be equally useless. You can't just make things up and act as if they are true. |

Why did Jesus have to go back to the Father anyway? If he was physically resurrected, he could've just continued his ministry on earth. The whole world would have been converted within a few years. To me, the reason is simple: being dead (sorry), he could not continue his ministry. |

Harvard13: You didnt tell us what in your opinion happened to Christs body or do u bliv it was stolen from a tomb guarded by roman soldiers. Only Matthew reports the presence of Roman soldiers at the tomb, despite it being.a big deal. This suggests that Matthew's writer may have fabricated it to support the notion that the body could not have been stolen. Mark contradicts Matthew directly because it says that the women asked themselves who would open the tomb. If they knew that there were soldiers there, they would not have had that discussion. Even Matthew gives the disciples a day to steal the body without being stopped by Roman soldiers. And the disciples could still have stolen the body by just bribing the Roman soldiers if indeed the soldiers were there. |

It happened at a time when I had many problems in my life and I decided to skip sunday fellowship because frankly, the fellowship hadn't done anything whatsoever to help me with my problems. Over the next week, I tried to examine the impact of my personal relationship with God on my life and I could only conclude that it had a negative impact on my life. If I had relied on my own understanding to make decisions, instead of doing things I thought God wanted me to do, my life would have been so much better. So I told my roommates that I'd be an interim atheist until I got some strong evidence of the existence of God and the truth of the bible. I'd no longer give Christianity the benefit of doubt.
(I could do that because in my quest to be a better Christian, I learnt exactly how the bible was put together, which was a mess. I'd had to think about the contradictions in the bible. I'd tried to convert a muslim who was able to defend the flaws of Islam as well as I could defend the flaws of Christianity, which made me realize that the only reason I was a Christian was by choice, due to being born into it. My quest to witness the pentecostal promise of signs and wonders had been fruitless. Even speaking in tongues had turned out to be not supernatural at all)
As an atheist, I started the process of rethinking my life, and everything now made so much more sense. All those 'difficult questions' I used to struggle with as a Christian who actually read the bible and tried to make sense of it were easily answered thus: "because there's no God". |

Vicoch: What about this: Devil tried to bring a calamity upon him, and God asked him to fast so as to avert it...? The calamity was caused by carelessness. The devil was not the one who failed to teach the boy to avoid roads. He was not the one who failed to install a jam lock on the gate so people won't forget to secure it. He was not the one who went to sleep knowing that there was no other person watching the toddler. And he was not the one who forgot to secure the gate. One problem with religious thinking is that it causes us interpret our experiences incorrectly and thus to fail to figure out the real reasons for our problems so we can prevent them from happening again. Train your son. Install a jam lock. Never leave him unsupervised. Those are the real lessons of the story. But the OP probably thinks the lesson is to pray and fast more. |

damogul: SECOND SCENARIO: this is also a true occurrence;
I lost my father on the 4th of June this year and have been grieving. In my family we were 3 brothers and 3 sisters. I have lost my mom, a sister and a brother all under mysterious circumstances before my dad left on the 4th.
It has been common knowledge to everyone in my family both nuclear and extended that a certain uncle of ours has been behind a lot of the problems we had.
This is a man who once hired assassins to kill my dad but the assassins exposed it to my dad rather than kill him. This is a man that during my moms burial was laughing and enjoying himself while making a video of her corpse. Note my mom told us she wrestled with someone dressed in all black in her dreams 2 weeks before she died because she took ill immediately after the incident and never recovered
12 days after my father died I had a revelation. I was with my remaining brothers and sisters and that my fathers brother whom we all knew ws fetish and in that revelation he was trying to kill us...especially me perhaps because I am the first son.
I managed to escape and raised an alarm. He was caught and dragged into a room where I was also sheltered. I saw a gun on the floor , picked it up and shot him in the stomach then my wife woke me up as I was expressing myself in reality even though I was dreaming.
I told her what happened. The next day a meeting was to be held in his house on how to go about the burial of my dad and at exactly 3pm in the presence of everyone at the meeting he suddenly started complaining of not feeling too good and needs air and his son began to fan him but his situation got worse and they had to rush him to the hospital...he died on the way...
Question: how was it that I had a spiritual encounter with him in a dream the day before where I shot him to kill him and he died the next day without being ill?
Is there a correlation or just mere coincidence? God watched as this magic man magically killed your mum, and allowed it. God watched as he magically killed your sister and brother, and didn't stop it. God watched as he magically killed your dad, and said, no problem. God allowed the devil's magic to kill four people in your family despite the protection of the blood of Jesus, and the fervent prayers of his children in the name of Jesus at which every knee shall bow. The blood of the Lamb and the name of Jesus did not protect them despite what we've seen in Mike Bamiloye's videos. God had a better plan. Instead of protecting his four children, God would let them die and grant the first born of the remaining orphans a hallucination/nightmare in which he would murder the magic man in spite of the biblical injunction "thou shalt not kill". Then God would carry out the murder for him. |

damogul: Ok here we go... at about 9.30pm on the 1st of July 2016 while sitting at home and meditating on the events of the day (which is a common practice of mine) I heard a voice clearly tell me that I should embark on a 7 day fast. Now over time in my walk with God I have come to know when he speaks to me and so I knew He was the one.
I began this fast immediately without questioning the reason behind it. Now fast forward to yesterday afternoon after church my wife, my son and I all went home and I decided to take a short rest while my son was busy watching his cartoons.
My wife came into the bedroom briefly to let me know she wants to go down the road to buy some vegies and stew stuff and she left. Now this is where it gets interesting.
I live in Ajah and those who understand the ajah expressway and how dangerous it is would attest to what I am about to say. The distance from my house to the express is about 300 to 400 meters and my family especially my son is well know on our stretch of road and has never been seen alone as either my wife or myself are always with him.
My wife left but did not shut the front door properly. My son who is just 3yrs old got up opened the front door and opened my pedestrian gate which my wife did not lock when going out so she could easily come back in without knocking to wake me up and walked out.
I woke up suddenly barely 2 mins after my son walked out and note I said barey 2 mins because I estimated how long it took him to get to where he did and myself to also get to where he got to after searching the house and compound for him.
He walked from my house passed where my wife was busy making purchases and straight into the middle of the lekki ajah expressway. Now this is my problem... nobody seemed to notice him when he was walking towards the express even those who knew him and it was the shouts of a keke driver thag got peoples attention and he (the keke man) jumped intl the road and began flagging fast approaching vehicles down before snatching him from the middle of the road. It was at that point of snatching him from the road that I got there due to the screeching of tires and shouts I heard.
My son broke down in tears due to the shock of the moment and myself and my wife of course got scolded by several people.
Question: why was it that it was after I was asked to fast and I obeyed that this calamity was averted?
Who asked me to fast? Was it my mind or based on sixth sense?
Note: we are not normally careless people my wife and I but the events of yesterday seemed like a well scripted occurrence....too well scripted from my little nap session to my wife going out to buy stuff which she normally does on our way back from church but didn't do this time even with money on her to the front door left slightly open to the pedestrian gate being open to the fact that nobody saw my 3 yr old son walking alone even when they knew him so well?
Please I need an explanation. Is there a link between my fast and the aversion of this disaster? Is there a scientific explanation to it? Was it nature playing a cruel joke?
Answers pls.
Also note that in my life I have experienced quite a number of Strong spiritual occurrences so you need to offer me an explanation that is irrefutable so I can believe that things just happen for no reason. So God knew that you had not taught your son that roads are dangerous and not to be played on. He knew your wife was going to forget to lock your front door and your gate, allowing your son to get to the highway. He knew that people in your area would be so busy that they would not notice a small child walking towards the expressway until he was in the middle of the road. And God's solution was not to instruct you to teach your son not to play on the road, nor to instruct you and your your wife to always lock the door when you go out or install a jam lock, but to instruct you to starve yourself. And, if you obeyed, to wake you up. To wake you up, not in time to stop your child from getting on the highway, but to watch helplessly as your child is rescued by an okada man who would have rescued him anyway even if you had not been woken up. Really? Here's my explanation. You bleeped up. Your wife bleeped up. Luckily for you, an okada man saved your son's life. Praise be to the okada man. You probably think God allowed this to happen for His glory, but I don't see how a near-tragedy caused by your carelessness glorifies God. Do you realize that if you weren't starving, you might not have been sleeping in the afternoon? You might have been playing with your son. |

Islam is the only religion getting a special treatment. Christians are free to criticize all other religions and philosophies including Atheism, Buddhism, Occultism, Traditionalism, etc. It is myopic to imply that this policy is anti-Christian as if all other religions have been granted their own sections. Some Muslims don't even like having their own section because their section is very dry compared to this one.
A problem I've observed is that some atheists are very rude and prone to derailing threads, effectively turning every thread into a debate about the existence of God. That's not right and in a few days mynd44 will extend his war against trolls to this section so we can have a good time. |

I allow to cool off, break into peices and serve whole or with a lil soup on top. Here's an easier way: save the water you use to cook your meat/chicken and mix some of it with the unwanted dry food just before serving it. I don't cook, but when I ate canned sardines I used to save the oil and mix it with the crappy dog kibble I mistakenly bought, and it worked. |
