Beating a dog makes the dog unpredictable and dangerous. A strong willed dog like yours and mine could attack the person who beats them while a weak-willed dog would lash out in fear unexpectedly. You need to stop that shit and focus on positive training. Don't make your dog dangerous. You also need to listen to your dog. If your dog is in a bad mood, let him be. They're animals, creatures of emotion. When they misbehave, it's not personal. It's just a product of bad training and sometimes health problems e.g. pain. A dog can bite you and then 2 seconds later he has forgotten the whole thing. My dog might snap and growl if you try to take raw meat from him, but the moment the meat is in your custody he starts wagging his tail like a puppy. The day I first got Sloan, he bit me for touching his food. After he finished it he came around to lick me. No, he was not saying sorry. He was just feeling well fed. Dogs aren't thinkers. They just act as they feel at the moment. That's all.

In this case, I think your dog was just engaging in rough play with you. Trust me, since you were not bleeding after they separated you, it was certainly just rough play. Like the way puppies play. But you thought the dog was attacking you because you don't trust him because you have been mistreating him and you know that one day he will probably attack you in retaliation. You need to learn to use food to manage your dog.

After the dog has checked you out, or if the dog ignores you, you can walk (slowly) towards your destination until the dog is out of sight. Don't do anything that could get the dog into an excited state e.g. shouting (or talking), running (or walking too fast), crying, staring at the dog, etc.

I've never been chased by a dog. When I see a scary dog, my instinctive reaction is to freeze and look away, not to run. This hasn't failed yet.

Is the dog losing weight? Can you post a picture of the dog before this started and a current picture?

Is he pooing regularly? What does the poo look like? Was it like that before? Are there worms in the poop? Have you dewormed him recently?

For how long has this been going on? Have you taken him to a vet? If so, what did he say? If not, why not?

Nairaland Forum needs a serious person who will do the normal duties of a super-moderator and also end the activities of these people:
1) Scammers: People who try to scam Nairaland members, or post fraudulent adverts/materials anywhere on Nairaland.
2) Spammers: People who advertise their products/services/websites in the wrong way, thus filling the forum with their trash.

We have sophisticated tools that can totally put a stop to any attempt to do nefarious things on the forum, but those tools cannot do anything if they are not used the right way. We need someone who has a disciplined, technical mind who will study these tools to understand exactly how they work and then apply them with great intelligence and precision, over and over again until the menace of spamming and scamming ends.

Requirement: You must be a very active member of Nairaland. A well behaved, level headed, diligent, well educated Nairaland addict.

Check out these questions:
1) Post a link to your Nairaland profile.
2) List the important sections of Nairaland that are currently suffering most from the activities of scammers and spammers.
3) Describe the types of scammers and spammers that you've have observed trying to operate in each of those sections.
