₦airaland Forum

Winners announced: https://www.nairaland.com/1494985/results-dynamic-ad-design-contest Thank you all for participating in the contest.

What The Winners Did Right:

1) They followed all the rules. They used the correct size & format, spelt every word correctly, and submitted on time. This is important, because a good designer should be able to follow requirements. If an advertiser says this is what I want, you have to be willing to do a fantastic job within those constraints. Your talent, no matter how great, will not help our advertisers if you cannot work within their requirements.

2) They made their ads accessible - easy to read and understand at a glance. Their text was sharp and bold and catchy and succinct. Contrast was high. Each ad made use of colorful & vivid pictures related to the things being advertised to draw the eyes of those who would be interested.

3) All their adverts were good. All their adverts were great. They did not submit subpar ads along with their best ads. This helped them to win because consistency matters. Any decent designer will produce a fantastic ad once in a while, but it takes a great designer to create top quality ads every single time. We can't recommend a designer if we know that there's a 50% chance that what he sends you will be subpar.

4) They used interesting backgrounds, color and sophisticated effects to add the wow factor. Advertisers love ads that make people go "wow!"

5) They did not compress their ads too much. They managed the compression process carefully to balance quality and size.

Happy Birthday!!!

This means that some of the current top 5 will be dropped out...

Should we allow everyone to submit corrected versions of their entries?

Jbluv55: Are you asking generally or just Alfredo4u?

Generally

alfredo4u: When is the result coming out?
My blood dey hot ohhhhh

this evening. What do you think about the current top five on the list?

Afam4eva: blink182: Seun please make ads banner clicked upon to open target frame in another window. I do not think being taken off NL is good, I even lose interest in the ad all together. I do not know if others share my sentiment.

Is it so difficult to right-click? Or to long-press? I just think it is wrong to rob users of the choice of how links should be opened.

Matthew briggs: You are right, my lesson's been learnt. Desire to compete in the future gone.

This reaction suggests that you're the kind of designer who doesn't accept feedback or correction from customers. That's too bad.

Matthew briggs: Rules:
* Your banners must be 318 pixels wide, 106 pixels tall, in the PNG/JPG format, 30kb or less in file size, and border-less.
* If you use pictures or graphic images, they must be obviously related to the product/service that's being advertised.
* You must be based in Nigeria or have a means of accepting payment from advertisers based in Nigeria.
* Entries must be submitted as attachments on this thread on or before 6:00PM on Sunday the 27th of October, 2013.

These were the rules no where was it it explicitly stated that spelling errors where grounds for disqualification.

Moreover it's your competition your rules. Do as you please.

According to the competition rules, you were supposed to design an ad for Covenant University. However, you designed an ad for Convenant University. So we can say that you were disqualified for not designing any ad for Covenant University...

planetuzor: Bro, Its not an ebook (I was only trying to illustrate what inspired me wanting to put the ad for this Tutorial). Its a Video Tutorial Packaged in a DVD on How to Play the Piano.. Can I send that too?

Sure...

rufychuks: Just an observation. lemuhito's work is beautiful but his covenant university banner has 'admission' misspelt. How come he wasnt disqualified?!

You are right. They will all be disqualified. This is really brutal!! I'm not enjoying it but rules are rules... We will have another contest.

Good point. Can you send me a copy of the ebooks so I can verify your claims?

planetuzor: @Seun, my ad got rejected with this Reason "Failing The Smell Text".. What does this mean and how do I resolve it?

We would be happy to accept ads for Naijarent and Pest Exterminators, but we feel the other businesses are not transparent enough for us.

planetuzor: Yeah, I think I noticed it too browsing with both a Laptop and a Blackberry fone. And the worst of it is if u are using Operamini on BB.. The ads(like google ads) comes in between comments on a thread and sometimes distorting d Comments while scrolling.

Those ads are not mine. Send me a screenshot of what the ads look like and I will show you how to remove them, as I did for Ujujoan.

folyboy2013: no problem, you have it and you are the master, i might have summit the wrong one instead of the normal size. because what i am having on my system here is 28kb and 318 8 106.

You would not have won even if you submitted the right size, for 2 reasons: (1) The quality of your work. (2) Your dishonest self-praise.

folyboy2013: sincerely, my upload still show 28kb, with 318 * 106. would like to know why the disqualification after meeting the brief details.

One of them is 101kb.

planetuzor: Seun, have Uploaded two Ads on my campaign page and for like 2days now and its still "Pending Approval"

The businesses you want to advertise didn't pass the smell test. We can accept ads for your pest extermination business, though.

erad: I'm really not fazed, I was expecting something of sort. Its just sad Seun doesn't know quality images and design come with a price (large file size). Putting a 30kb size restriction on a design and expecting clear crisp images is like buying a player for $1million and expecting him to be highest goal scorer. Its never done!

The 30kb restriction did not prevent yusufu16, lightheart and others from submitting fantastic banners with no compression artifacts.

yusufu16: My advice anybody that win should not participate in future contest again. This will allow new talents to come in.

That's thoughtful of you, but I actually disagree. If the new talents cannot compete with known talents, then they do not deserve to win.

I'm not so happy with the current ranking. After the latest round of disqualifications, too many of our new discoveries have dropped out, leaving the same set that won last year. We will soon need to run a new contest to discover more talents.

I've just finished disqualifying all entries that violated the file size requirement from my list. The person who would probably have won the 2nd prize (25,000 naira) and the person who would probably have won the 5th prize (10,000 naira) both fell victim to this rule. It's such a pity.

On the bright side, the more entries we disqualify, the easier it is to sort the others. So it's not all bad news.

Pls check this page to see if your entry is still there: https://www.nairaland.com/1494985/results-dynamic-ad-design-contest

Thanks for accepting my apologies.

We are sorry about the downtime. It was personally very stressful for me as well because I hate when NL is down.

Apologies.
