Nobody has access to your email address, not even moderators. Followers cannot even PM you directly, unless you follow them back.

I think its a pretty good idea! More community, less anonymity.

Yes. The "Followers" link on the header shows you all your followers so you can view their profiles and follow them back.

freecocoa: Seun i got a message telling me that someone on NL wants to send me an email but is not connected so i should contact him by replying the email i got. Is that the protocol for the anonymous email you are talking about?

I'm pleased to inform you that the "member following" feature has now replaced the former "friendship" feature. You can't add people as "friends" anymore, but you can follow them with or without their permission. When the people you're following post new topics on Nairaland, those topics will instantly be added to your list of "followed topics".

Before this update, you could only send e-mails to moderators and your friends. Now, you can freely send e-mails to moderators and people following you. We also have a new protocol for anonymous e-mail sending, which you'll soon notice. What do you think?

I don't use it as often as I thought I'd use it when it was first released.
I think that's because of the restrictions of the feature, namely:
1) You must know all the fields of the namedtuples before creating the type. Advantage: dict.
2) You can't update the elements of a namedtuple. Advantage: class.

Have you tried it on your mobile phone? I noticed that more people use Nairaland on their mobile phones, so while we were switching to the New Nairaland Script, I also decided to create a new look somewhere in-between a typical mobile site and a typical desktop site. It's certainly less visually appealing than the old one, but it's more logically organized and fully functional and better-looking on mobile phones. You'll get used to it eventually, I promise! It's fully functional on mobile phones.

seun, i downloaded three different opera-mini for use on my mobile i.e 5.1, 6.0 and 6.5 versions. I must tell you that your post is completely false because i have just been logged-out from the second opera-mini after viewing nairaland on my the 6.5 version. Plz do some checks before you post this type of thing next time.

You know, I wrote the code. You have 3 versions of Opera Mini. Each one counts as a separate device. You should pick one of them and use it for Nairaland, and also pick one browser on your Desktop. You will be able to remain logged-in from just 2 locations. If you keep getting logged out despite using only two locations/browsers, then you should change your Nairaland password immediately.

@Beaf: Twitter's graph database, FlockDB, also runs on MySQL. It's basically a sharding layer over a cluster of MySQL databases.

New Nairaland used to have a rather annoying feature: when you logged in with your phone, you would be logged out on your PC, and when you logged in on your PC, you would be logged out on your phone. New Nairaland's script only allowed a member to login from one location at a time. Concurrent sessions were not allowed.

This was particularly annoying for mobile phone users because (1) New Nairaland allows you to do almost anything you can do on your PC on your mobile phone, so most people would want to login on their phones as well as their PCs. (2) For security reasons, mobile browsers often don't store passwords by default.

This afternoon, we have relaxed this limitation. You can now remain logged-in to your Nairaland account in two places at the same time: e.g. your phone and your PC. This should improve the usability of New Nairaland for the vast majority of Nairaland users. You can now truly enjoy Nairaland on your mobile phone. Thanks!
