Why did you choose MS Access and VBA? |
When you come across such, click on 'report post' |
mkmyers45: WikipediaChristians believe the New Testament supercedes the Old. There are many things there that they don't follow. |
Gladly. Here goes: You don't need load balancing. You don't need a server cluster. Unless your problem size is 10 times Nairaland. |
Yes. |
markus112: Good job! Keep it up!Thanks! We are committed to making Nairaland better for every Nairalander. |
Old Testament. |
Previously, the only way to discover the existence of new content in the [Followed Topics], [Following] and [Followers] tabs on Nairaland was to click on them from time to time. Sometimes, you would click on them, and there would be no new content. Sometimes, there would be new content, but you wouldn't know. On Saturday, we implemented a near real-time notification system that lets you know when there's new content on those tabs. Here's how it works: If you see the following links on your header: [Followed Topics(7)] [Following(5)] [Followers(3)], it means: - 7 new posts or new topics have been added to your [Followed Topics] list since the last time you checked. - 5 new posts have been made by people you're following since the last time you checked the [Following] page - 3 new people have started following you since the last time you checked the [Followers] page. The absence of those numbers in brackets indicates that those pages have not been updated since you last checked. Note also that you won't see the [Followed Topics] tab unless you're following some topics, the [Following] tab unless you're following some members, and the [Followers] tab unless you have followers. We also noticed that there were too many inappropriate topics on the [Trending] section of Nairaland, so we removed them. |
You can create a new thread for the meteorological reports. There's no shortage of space on our server. |
Unstickied. |
Anyone? |
segunjowo: Seun: let us be able to PM any member we fancy rather than the MODs alone. You can do this, but only if they fancy you back ![]() |
It's not about how many languages you learn, but what you've built with the languages you know. Build something. |
The best way to learn to code is to code. Build a very simple website with Python. Maybe a blog or a guestbook. |
Has the problem been fixed? Most people should get one notification a week, at most. Many should get no notifications. |
dubem3: you would just have disabled all of them andWise people say a half-loaf of bread is better than none. It would have been madness to throw away the friendship data. |
Behind bobo: i was banned recently because i was trying to explain the advantages of precast concrete and had to use the word "erektion"(wrongly spelt to avoid another ban). i.e precast concrete has fast 'erektion' time. I guess we aren't kids and words that have dual meanings like this should be allowed to be used freely.Replacing such words with another word which doesn't convey the intended meaning does no goodGoogle's content rules are very strict and we have to ban those words in order not to violate them. It's not a choice that I personally made. In this case, though, you could have used any of the following synonyms of the word in question: architecture, arrangement, assembly, build, cast, composition, conception, constitution, contour, cut, development, disposition, edifice, elevation, erecting, erection , fabric, fabricating, fabrication, figuration, figure, form, format, formation, foundation, improvisation, invention, makeup, making, manufacture, mold, origination, outline, plan, planning, prefab, prefabrication, putting up, raising, rearing, roadwork, shape, structure, system, systematization, turn, type (from thesaurus.com) |
Can you give an example of a topic that was worse of after appearing on the front page and being "phased out"? |
Dear Nairalanders, In the past, you could monitor topics posted by the people you're following by simply viewing your Followed Topics, but there was no way to efficiently monitor their posts. Today, we've added a "Following" page to Nairaland to make it easier to track the posts made by people you're following. Please check it out as soon as you can and let me know about any issues you may have with it. (If you don't find the page compelling, you should consider un-following people whose interests are not similar to yours, regardless of how cute they might be. They will still be able to send you messages using the new protocol, if they want to.) We have also altered our Updated Topic Notification feature to make it less annoying. The new settings are extremely conservative. I hope these changes are to your satisfaction. Please, check /following out now. Have a great day! |
Reptyle: The instruction was loud and clear: School's out for 2 weeks....all students to vacate campus immediately!!! I am sure the statement was made in English. What are those kids still doing on campus almost 3 days laterSome students don't have anywhere to go. Others may not have transport money. Many students stay on campus during holidays. |
Where can one purchase a genuine version of Windows 7 Professional? |
You'd better not let them catch you! |
"Teargas into halls of residence" implies that they gassed even the students that were not protesting i.e. in their rooms. |
oayombo: a situation where someone follows me and had access to sending me email without my approval is not so cool. The only people that can send you e-mail without your approval are (a) Moderators and the admin. (b) People you are following. Loskee: if i follow back a follower of mine, does that mean he/she can have access to my email address? No. Nobody has access to your email address, however, the people you follow back can send you emails through the forum. Loskee: PMs sent to me just show a notification on my NL homepage and tell me to read the PM from my email address. when i do this and have to reply the email, i do that with my own email address and the person automatically knows my email address. now how do i reply without breaching the anonymity clause? You can't send or reply an email without exposing your email address. However, your email address isn't exposed otherwise. I do not believe people should be able to send personal messages anonymously; that could be used for to all sorts of mischief (spamming, etc). Loskee: -can we have the chat feature too? akin to yahoo chat or facebook chatting? There's no current plan to implement that, due to the limited ROI potential of the feature, but anything can happen tomorrow. ![]() |
afam4eva: Doesn't that give credence to the fact that they're the best? Not if it causes their customer service to deteriorate such that staff members become rude and aggressive towards customers. |
afam4eva: @Seun Another feature I want you to consider is the introduction of a "reputation system" that gives a certain clout of people more privileges. This can be calculated using variables like "date of joining nairaland", "number of posts", "number of followers" etc. What kind of privileges do you have in mind for people with high reputations? |
How can it be the best bank when the halls are perpetually crowded? |
Ileke-IdI:We've drastically reduced the frequency of those mails. The last one was sent 8 days ago, so clearly, it's stopped. Paentera: Great stuff, now can we have a thumbs down or dislike button too?You can report a post if you feel it breaks the rules. If you don't like a post, you should just ignore it. Let's be positive!! edyza: hey its a nice idea,u knw keeping upo wif the changing world wif this following stuffs atleast thats wat twitter does but dont u think i have the right 2 say who shld follow mw or not? i mean the way it is its like stalking 2 me though its a nice one but we ought 2 aav d right 2 our followers,by that i mean 2 tell who follows me,mek wor wor person no follow me reach dreamYour followers are just like fans. They won't have any special privileges over you, unless you choose to follow them back. |
aieromon: My friends have been delisted.I have to start thinking about following them and expecting them to reciprocate in return.I hope it works out well for the forum. Not all of them - just those who are more popular than you. You're following them, but they are not following you, because we can't be sure that the relationship is really two-way. Some popular members added a lot of friends that they didn't really know. However, you can still e-mail your old friends if you want to. Missy_B: Is it possible for us to receive messages on NL rather than in our mail boxes; i.e the way it used to function on the old NL?New Nairaland doesn't have that feature yet. I believe the e-mail approach is more pragmatic. E-mail is for messaging! |
Ibime: To avoid those voluminous and annoying emails that "Mukina has posted a new topic", I am unfollowing all my followees, and it will remain that way until I receive assurance that my mailbox will not be flooded with emails telling me about new posts my followees make. When was the last time you got such an email? New Nairaland doesn't send such mails. Please stop reacting to imaginary problems, sir. aieromon: I'm not interested in this follow-follow thing at all.I liked the fact that I could send mails to my friends seeing that there is no private messages engine here. You can still send mails to your friends. Your friends are following you, right? Then you can mail them without restriction. |
