freespirit:
your organization should function in such a way that specific functions and tasks are mapped out for your employees. as people meet the target you'll know and if theres default from anyone of them, action or memo should be meted out.
What sort of action can I take when an employee doesn't meet his/her targets? Can I deduct from his/her salary?

naijacutee:
If you read a book like "7 habits of Highly Effective People",
I could send you a copy of the e-book if you want. It answers your question very accurately.
Thanks. You can post it as an attachment. If it's too large, you can host it at www.sendspace.com.

sometimes Nigerians are not the best people to work with UNLESS if you have known them for some years
Really? Wouldn't it be a mistake to hire friends because familiarity might get in the way of business?

olijo:
Take a second look at your vision, your mission and your strategies.
See how you can make these into a compelling motivational tool.
Tell me more. Do you think a honest organizational mission like "to make lots of cool profit" will work?

And how can I motivate people to do what they are supposed to do, knowing how unreliable Nigerians can be?

No one is doubting the prestige it brings to a nation
Why should taxpayers who don't care about this so-called "prestige" have to pay for it? That's why it should be a private sector matter. Those that want "prestige" should go and buy their own satellites. Thanks.

@adconline: Thanks. I will only defend a government that sets its priorities right and faces its primary responsibility.

Car Talk › Re: Your Car Is 'Not An Investment!' by Seun(mod): 5:24am On May 17, 2007
"Your car is not an investment" That's too generalized, you need to be specific in this kind of topics.
It simply means your car. Not your uncle's car, not "someone's" car but yours. Yes, you!

6) Have a payment processor. That is, accept credit card from your website. Most processors don't accept Nigerians and a few that do charge fees.
Am I the only one who has a problem reconciling the statement above with the one below?

Health › Re: Pure Drinking Water by Seun(mod): 5:41pm On May 16, 2007
I think boiling is ok. If you have a gas cooker, you can boil your drinking water cheaply. It's only 8 glasses a day!

It also depends on where people get their water from. Water from from a deep well or borehole won't need much treatment. Anyway, here's a page on water purification: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_purification

There is no "yeye work" in this world, provided you are being paid well for it. Provided you bargained for it.

Business › Re: My Dream Is To Spread Wealth To All Nigerians - Aliko Dangote by Seun(mod): 5:10pm On May 16, 2007
Yeah. I think Dangote has a right to build whatever he wants to build with his money.
He does not - or should not - need our permission. It is not - or should not - be any of our business.

If the product he comes up with is good and affordable, we will patronize him. Otherwise, we won't. Period.

Business › How To Manage People? by Seun(mod): 4:44pm On May 16, 2007
Hello,

My business concerns have not been able to move forward for a while because I have just about reached the limit of what I can do myself. I have so many well-researched ideas but can't really find the time to execute them properly. This means I need people to help me. However, I don't think I have what it takes to manage employees.

Do you have any tips, ideas, principles, et cetera that will help me with employing Nigerians and managing them?

(I employed a computer science graduate a few months ago, but I released him after a week for telling a lie) sad

Thanks a million.

I think she was laundering the money for a Nigerian big man.
On the basis of what evidence? If she was laundering money, then she should be charged for that crime.

I agree with jidody, though, that she made a bad judgment call and paid dearly for it. She has no excuses, really.
