One could argue that he was the one manipulating all the events that led to the destruction of Kings Landing, but the show didn't even go there.

The idea of Bran being unanimously elected as the king is so stupid. He has no leadership experience, no charisma. Why would they pick him? Dany was an amazing leader. She was also very clever. She would have been a great queen if they didn't make her evil for no reason.

Bran could be the master of whisperers at best, since he knows what's going on everywhere, but he needs a few years to master his powers.

Why would you choose a criminal like Bronn as your master of coin? He is going to be worse than Littlefinger, obviously.

King Robert's greatest flaw was that he didn't care about ruling. Now they elected a king who doesn't care about anything at all.

Wow, I'm surprised that some people actually liked this episode. There was no aspect of it that made any sense. The only good thing was Ghost.

I've been laughing for about 5 minutes. What a stupid ending. So the lords of Westeros unanimously voted for Bran the Bland? Really?

Jon killed Dany and they didn't even have the balls to let Drogon kill Jon in retaliation. He directed his anger at the Iron throne. Why?!?

Grey Worm was loyal to Dany, ruthlessly killing Lannisters who had surrendered, but he didn't kill the man who murdered his queen?

I had been trying to understand why Dany did what she did last week. Apparently she just 'snapped' and turned into a generic cartoon villain.

I feel so sorry for all the people who have wasted large chunks of their time analysing this show, crafting clever theories, etc.

I also feel sorry for the women and girls whose empowering Khaleesi was turned into a cartoon villain overnight for no reason whatsoever.

It's so sad because she had the only army in their world that could take King's Landing without destroying it, but she destroyed it anyway.

Is it possible that the three-eyed raven is the true architect of everything that happened, including what Dany did to King's Landing? He was the one who informed Jon and Sansa that Jon has a better claim to the Iron throne, which set events into motion that resulted in the destruction of King's landing. He may have been the one that told the mad king to burn down King's landing and made him crazy just as he did to Hodor. But Jaime prevented that from happening. And he may be the one that drove Dany to burn them all? The three eyed raven has no regard for individual lives. He is all about the big picture. Perhaps he orchestrated all the bloodshed in order to rebuild Westeros as a democratic society? Destroying the capital destroyed the people and institutions that made Westeros what it is. With that done, it's easier to build something better.

Jon has been called the Forest Gump of Westeros. He keeps doing stupid things and getting lucky. Even when he died, they brought him back. Perhaps he will set up some kind of democracy and conduct elections for the leadership of new Westeros, since he doesn't want to be a king.

Dany can never be the same after what she had done. Once you are caught lying,, it will be difficult to believe whatever you say afterwards. She will willingly give the throne to Jon and return to mereen, besides she could find love waiting for her already.

There is some precedent for Dany going back to Mereen. She keeps saying "I don't have love here" implying that she knows that she has love somewhere else. That's Mereen. If Westeros forgives her for massacring the innocent citizens of the capital city, she may be able to return there. They have not shown Dany's face since she started the massacre - not even in episode 6 previews. Perhaps there's some regret there?

Jon can be hard. He has executed people before, including a boy who participated in his murder and a man who disobeyed and disrespected him.

But he has a rigid code of conduct that causes him to do counter-productive things. He told Dany that he had a better claim to the throne just before the Long Night, which could have cost them the battle or gotten him killed. Then he told Sansa, despite not wanting to be king, because he felt that 'he had' to tell Arya and Sansa, thus losing Dany's trust and turning Tyrion and Varys against her. Then, when he knew that Dany was planning to burn down Kings Landing and rule by fear, he had nothing to say except "you will always be my queen" and "I don't want it".

I beg to disagree. It is common wisdom. If those wildfires were buried underground, they wouldn't have leaked out the way they did.

Drogon's flames caused a fiery explosion of the city's stone wars. Obviously, they were hot enough ignite wildfire buried underground.

I strongly believe Cersei planted them as traps around the city while the unfortunate people of the city were her last line of defense. Scorpions - Wildfires - Human shields. It is a well thought out strategy that never materialized all thanks to Dany's rage. Saying they were planted by the Mad King a long time ago only to burst into flames within buildings as depicted in the episode is unsellable.

If Cersei's plan had anything to do with wildfire, she would have discussed it with her hand. They discussed the scorpions and the human shield. Cersei didn't expect to lose Kings Landing to Dany. She thought that provoking Daenerys would cause her to attack in a reckless manner thus exposing her dragon to the numerous scorpions that she installed everywhere. Once the dragon fell, Dany would die, and Cersei would've won.

I disagree with your second paragraph. She always had that maternal instinct in her. She was a liberator. She was called Myssa. Look at the scene when she was so sorrowful over the death of the little girl Drogon killed. Which led her to chaining up her other two children - I pretty hard decision she had to make.

It is true that she did many good, decent and kind things. But there are many men in history who have been kind and generous to their families and friends and people they empathised with for some reason and yet committed heinous atrocities. Hitler had a dog, and he loved that dog.

I just think it gets to a point in life when we get to our breaking point and just snap.

The world of Game of Thrones is brutal, and many of our favorite characters have been pushed to their breaking point and beyond. Arya, Sansa, Jon and Bran lost their father, mother and two brothers. Theon was tortured and castrated; his father assassinated. Samuel Tarly lost his father and brother. Jaime, a legendary sword-fighter, lost his hand. Dany was the only one who wanted to burn cities to the ground in retaliation.

In the next episode, I hope that Dany will come to her senses, realise that she bleeped up, hand over the seven kingdoms to Jon, go to Essos to rethink her life for a few years under the protection of Daario and Drogon, and then resume her campaign to end slavery in her world. I don't want Jon to be the king because he does not learn from his mistakes and will probably be killed in a few months, but he has the best claim.

I’m beginning to agree with the people that say Dany is not fit to rule. If the only thing keeping a king from massacring thousands of totally innocent people is the advice of his/her current advisors, then the king is not fit to rule in a civilized society, since there’s no guarantee that the advisors will always be there.

If people like Jorah, Ser Barristan and Tyrion had not been advising Dany, she would have done something like this a long time ago. I would not want to have such a person ruling over me. They underestimated her. We all did. We thought the pretty little lady was just spitting fire when she threatened to burn cities to the ground. She was serious.

The wildfire came from the Daenerys’ Dad, the Mad King, who wanted to burn down King’s landing after he lost the war with Robert, so that Robert would have nothing to rule over. His pyromancer had hidden wildfire all over the city, and was going to set it off when Jaime killed him and the mad king. Most of the hidden caches of wildfire were never found by Tyrion, Cersei and others who wanted to use it.

That is my wish. Her boyfriend Daario is still at Mereen. The ex-slaves mostly love her. And lessons she learned in Kings Landing might help.

I think he's praised her acting here more than once this season already. We all had to eat the humble pie in the end.

I don’t see it as humble pie. Perhaps she saw our criticism of her acting and decided to improve. Perhaps she felt that acting very well in the final season would help her career after the show ends. Perhaps her brain aneurisms just got fully treated. Regardless, her acting was definitely not so great for several seasons and we thank the lord of light that it is much better now.

Why didn’t Jon make any effort to convince Dany to do the right thing? He is the one man that Dany always listens to. He possesses the lord’s tongue and other irresistible weapons of persuasion. Why won’t he use them on Dany? Tyrion was the only person talking to her and she knew he was not totally loyal.

Now that her acting is top notch, no one wants to praise her...

Emilia Clarke’s acting has really improved in Season 8. I especially noticed it in Episode 4. She conveyed the loneliness and sadness that Dany felt during the victory party, her desperation to keep Jon’s claim to the throne a secret, and her struggle to contain her rage after Missandei was executed. I feel very bad about what the writers are doing to her character in order to turn her into a villain by force.

I liked her acting in Episode 5 too. It was effective. I wish her character ended up as the empowering hero that most of us, including Emilia, wanted her to be.

He tried to poison her over a disagreement on strategy and because he learned that Jon had a better claim to the throne. A claim that rests on Bran’s visions. If you try to kill someone and fail, don’t be mad if the person kills you. It’s called self-defense. Also, he was uncharacteristically stupid as he made it clear to Tyrion that he intended to kill Dany. If Tyrion didn’t report him and Dany found out, she would have killed them both.

So I think Cersei dying in burning building that collapsed is a nod to how she brought down the sept and her own poetic justice.
She used wildfire to blow up the sept and it collapsed. Daenerys used dragon fire to burn down the red keep and it collapsed on her.

I hate the fact that "madness" was used as an excuse to make her act in a way that was at odds with how she had been growing as a person.

Dany was my favorite character in season 1, and the Dany of Season 8 was the best Dany ever. Most forgiving, brave, friendly, etc. It's too bad.

She is the queen to her allies. Jon Snow, Olenna Tyrell(RIP), Yara Greyjoy, the new Dornish prince, etc. Power exists where men think it does. In the world of this story, Dany was one of the most benevolent rulers or aspiring rulers until the moment when she started killing civilians.

I disagree with you. Everything she did up to the point where the Lannister army surrendered was perfectly rational and understandable. If any King learned about the existence of someone who had a better claim to the throne, they would immediately kill that person. In season 1, Robert sent an assassin after Dany when he learned that she was pregnant because her son would have a better claim to the throne than Robert. Also, Joffery or Cersie tried to kill all the babies and children fathered by Robert as a result of his reckless whoring. Only Gendry managed to escape. Dany never tried to kill Jon, so she was better than most. When you have suffered all your life to achieve a goal, it is difficult to abandon it.

At the beginning, Dany followed my 'advice'. She destroyed Euron's fleet, the ballistas, and the golden company, forcing the Lannisters to surrender. I was so impressed. She had mastered the use of her dragon and won the battle for Kings Landing without any civilian casualties.

And then the heartbreaking horror show started. It took less than 5 minutes for me to go from "you go, girl!" to "that bitch needs to die".

Danaerys is my favorite character at this point in the show. She has gone through so much growth as a character since season 1 that it would kill me to see her turned into a villain. She went from being a vengeful teenage widow making empty threats about fire and blood, to:
- Accepting the fact that her father was a bad king, and aspiring to be much better than him.
- Appointing Tyrion, whose brother killed her father, and whose father took kings landing from her father, as her hand.
- Promising to help Jon to fight the army of the dead before he bent the knee and following through at great cost.
- Totally forgiving Jaime, the man who killed her father, on the advice of Sansa and Jon.
- Legitimising Gendry, the bastard son of King Robert, the man who killing her brother, and making him a lord.
- Not killing Varys after he declared his intention to start working against her, despite threatening to burn him earlier.
- Going along with Tyrion's worthless efforts to negotiate with Cersie and never punishing him even when it cost her dearly.

I think that Dany's true purpose for coming to Westeros is to fight the dead, and not necessarily to be the queen, even though she is on track to be a pretty good, but not perfect, queen. At some point I would like her to return to Essos to continue her campaign against slavery.
