I'll abandon this line of argument and go back to the point that only Canaan was cursed in the passage that inspired this thread. The purpose of the story of Canaan being cursed was to justify the ethnic cleansing of the land of Canaan by the Israelites. Biblical authors view Ham's son Kush as the ancestor of black Africans and he was not cursed. So there is no biblical basis for the notion that blacks are cursed.

These days it is mostly it's to back up my points when I engage in discussions about religion. A good understanding of the bible is very useful.

Why would the devil be intimidated by physical copies of the Bible? It's just a book; created in the printing press like any other book.

I like NIV because of the notes that tell us which verses are not so clear in meaning or have different versions in the original manuscripts.

I like NASB too because it’s more literal, but unlike the KJV it is a modern translation based on the best available manuscripts that we have.

I think the KJV is a very inaccurate version of the bible because the creators didn’t have the resources available to modern translators.

There is no place in the scriptures where a statue or idol was used to represent this unknown God in that passage of the Bible...

Besides, if it was a statue, apostle Paul wouldn't dare compare God to a statue.

Apologies for being lazy. Yes, it was an altar, and there is no explicit mention of a statue. So some of the Athenians were worshipping an unknown God and Paul incorporated the unknown God into his gospel message, implying that the unknown God they were worshiping was the same as the God of Christianity. This made it easier for them to accept the gospel. Is that a fair interpretation?

Another lazy mistake, which I apologize for. What I meant to imply is that the ancestors of the Jews (Hebrews and/or Israelites) were polytheistic, and elements of their beliefs were incorporated into Judaism. Is this something that we can agree on?

If you look at deliverance ministries in Nigeria, they have incorporated traditional beliefs about “marine spirits”, “spiritual spouses”, etc into their flavor of the gospel. This happens all the time in religion.

By the way, Yahweh is more similar to Allah than to the Christian God. Yahweh is one. Allah is one. The Christian God is 3. The Muslims probably got the idea of the one God from Jews. Religions have always borrowed popular ideas from each other and continue to do so.

It is unremarkable that the Muslim religion borrowed some elements of the Arab polytheistic beliefs that preceded it. Many religion have done this in order to be more marketable.

In Acts 17, Apostle Paul claimed that an “unknown god” that some Athenians were worshipping (as an idol/statue) at an altar was the same God that he was preaching about. This made it easy for people who already worshipped that god to embrace Christianity.

Here in Nigeria, Yoruba Christians say that the God of the Bible is the same as Olorun and Oludumare in Yoruba mythology (even though they reject the stories told about them in the myths). This makes the transition from paganism to Christianity smoother for Yoruba traditionalists.

Even the Jewish Bible, the Old Testament, borrows some elements of the polytheistic beliefs that ancient the ancestors of the Jews held before they became monotheistic.

So let’s free the Muslims. If we accept that Jews and Christians worship the one true God who (allegedly) created and controls everything that exists, we should not find it difficult to accept that Muslims worship that same God. Whether that God actually exists is a different matter.

You can command a husband and wife to be kind, respectful, and seductive to each other, but you can’t command them to love. People can’t control their emotions, but they can control their actions. The Bible should be updated to reflect this understanding.
