what about those of us who don't believe the bible? ![]() |
Well? I merged your thread with this. Did you get your answer? |
I have a poll asking people to vote on how often they eat. I think the perfect title would have been "do we need more food in Nigeria?" It's amazing how finding the perfect title can take so much time and mental effort. I wonder if i should change it again. ![]() |
Can you tell us the name of Gbenga Aruleba's TV show and the time it's broadcast during the week? Thanks. |
Orininla, please forgive Nairaland members and make sure Linda doesn't stumble on this thread. |
It is a fact universally acknowledged that politicians, not entrepreneurs, are responsible for the creation of jobs. If you vote for me as the next president of Nigeria, I promise to create jobs in my capacity as the commander in chief of the armed forces. I will use my sophisticated weapons to create millions of automatic jobs for Nigerians. For example, I'm going to plant troops along the expressways linking the northern part of Nigeria to the south. When those troops spot lorries moving large quantities of agricultural produce to the south, they'll shoot the tyres so the lorries will lose control and veer into the bush. Many jobs will be created in the agricultural sector, because farmers in the north will have to employ more hands to replace the destroyed vegetables and fruits. You may have witnessed customs officials destroying foodstuffs, medicines, clothes, and other items imported into the country illegally. This creates jobs in local industries and deprives those greedy importers of their illegal profits. The problem is that they don't go far enough - they allow some products to get into the country, destroying local jobs in the process. As the commander in chief, I will create millions of local jobs by making importation illegal. Also, I'm going to purchase long range stealth bombers to sink some of the ships heading out of Nigeria. This will create more jobs in the maritime sector as shipping companies struggle to replace lost crew members. It will also create jobs in all exporting industries - oil, agriculture, and mining - because more goods will have to be exported to replace the ones destroyed. Imagine that: a single policy that creates jobs in two ways at once! To create more jobs in the construction industry, I will employ demolition squads from the army to use grenades, dynamites, and bombs to completely destroy large office complexes all over the country. Don't worry - this will only take place on weekends and public holidays - so the only workers who might lose their lives are those who work hard when they are supposed to be relaxing at home. That is a risk that I am willing to take to create jobs. But that's not all. I will influence the senate to create laws against deviants (atheists and homosexuals, geniuses and idiots) and moral offences like (adultery and fornication, envy and greed). All laws will come with long prison sentences starting from ten years and above. With millions of Nigerians in prison, there will be enough jobs for those who are lucky enough not to be convicted of any laws. There'll be more than enough jobs to go around! Finally I will make it mandatory for any registered business to re-staff. I'll make it an offence for any company in Nigeria to operate without employing 250 Nigerians in each branch office. Registered businesses will have it easy - only 100 employees per branch and 2 branches minimum. Any manager who doesn't comply will be thrown in prison, making his job available to someone else! This is the secret of communism's success - job creation by fiat! Some of my critics have suggested that with so many jobs created, paying the employees will become a problem. Isn't this ridiculous when, as the president of Nigeria I can just order the CBN to print more money? So please vote for me in the 2007 presidential elections, and I promise you that unemployment will become a thing of the past. I promise to make Nigeria the Zimbabwe of West Africa; in fact Nigeria will be much more gigantic giant. His Excellency, The Most High Chief And Professor S Osewa (JSCE, SSCE, NFA) |
Either we fix this problem the right way or we keep on complaining that "things are not ok". The countries we envy have been developing for centuries. Entrepreneurship is never easy, but that is how prosperity is created. |

How does it work? Tell me more. I want to import canning equipment from India. How do I locate suppliers and import the canning equipment? |
thelma2: Seun, are you Hungry? No, I am not! The only time I am hungry is when I am broke, but that doesn't mean food is scarce in Nigeria! I think a better way to ask my question would have been "is food scarce in Nigeria?" I keep woundering if hunger is the reason why our police stand on the road to collect 20, 20 NairaA policeman only needs to collect 120 naira a day to feed himself. If he has 2 children and his wife is working, he needs to make 240 naira per day (7200 salary) to feed them, and that is assuming that they don't get paid at all. But they collect much more than that, and they also get their salaries, so what's the problem? Besides, if the police man is truly hungry, he will not go ahead and marry a wife and start making babies. I feel that there is enough food in the country to feed all Nigerians, it is just that some Nigerians are not earning enough because they are unemployed, or lazy, or disabled. Even professional beggars in Lagos have enough to eat and raise their families; do you know that? The problem seems to be poverty and not scarcity of food. |
Formerly: Are Nigerians Hungry? Hello, Is it true that Nigerians are hungry? Whenever people suggest this, I always say "no", because when you go to the market there is lots of food if you have money and a lot of what they have always goes to waste. Yet people have told me that I am living in an imaginary world, that Nigerians are finding it difficult to eat. What's your opinion? Do you think here are a lot of Nigerians who are hungry? Currently? Thanks. Update: Here is the question I really want to ask. Is Food Scarce in Nigeria? Some people say agriculture is an important business because Nigerians need more food, but my contention is that food is abundant and affordable in Nigeria as long as you earn a reasonable income. And so the problem is not really that Nigerians are hungry but that some people - unemployed people - don't earn enough for 3 square meals. When I was in Abeokuta, I could eat a good meal at a buka for 40 naira and I read a newspaper report about a crippled man who earns 200-300 naira a day as a mobile cal center operator. If a disabled man can earn enough for more than 3 square meals at a buka, from a job that requires no education, why not the rest of us? |
Hello, I'm posing these questions to spiritual folks in the house: - What is a soul? - How do you know that souls exist? - Do animals - dogs, cats, worms, flies, mosquitos, lice, chimps - have souls? - If they do, what are the implications? - Why is it ok to butcher them? - Will there be animals in heaven and hell? - What does a human being have that animals don't have? Thanks a million. |
I really do need a canning kit. I need the glass jar, the metal lid that i can heat to kill germs and then seal to preserve my food for months. I need one with instructions on how to prevent food poisoning. I don't want to have to import them from the US and pay all their taxes and such. Can I get it in Lagos?

To put it bluntly, the boy wants sex as payment for food purchased. This is called prostitution. ![]() |
Those that want to remain Nigerians have been given the option to move into Nigerian territory. Special agreements have been made to protect the interests of the inhabitants during a five year warming up period. That is much better than a war, which would have turned this people into refugees. President Obasanjo should be praised for mediating a peaceful solution to this Bakassi crisis. The Nigerians who are afraid of what would happen to them should sell their land and properties and come to lagos for opportunities. Those that choose to stay should warm themselves up to the new Camerounian government. Why did we choose to 'abandon' Bakassi? An International court ruled in their favor. Should we have disobeyed? |

For the avoidance of doubt, I will pay my children with money. This is just to prepare them for the real world (where money matters a lot) and teach them that good work deserves good pay. Financial discipline. |
How will you break NepaThere are competitive electricity markets all over the world. The BPE can visit them to find out how it's done. Who will own the cables and the poles and the meters and how will own the dampsEach dam and power generation plant will be auctioned off separately. The distribution network in each town (cables, poles, transformers) will also be auctioned off separately. So there'll be a network of distributing companies and a network of power generating companies. Someone like you with a diesel generator could approach a distribution company and offer to supplement what they get from NEPA. Who will own them? You and I! The distribution companies will need to upgrade their infrastructure so it supports prepaid billing with variable billing rates. Those who refuse to pay will not get power, while those who pay will get power round the clock. The deregulated market will be less intimidating to aspiring entrepreneurs and investment money will flow in. |
Thank you, Consultant and others. Human beings can always be counted upon to oppose progress and Nigerians are no exception. Lovers of progress must always be on guard to prevent the public from being manipulated. |
Why are these people clamoring to be part of the "failed experiment" called Nigeria instead of declaring independence? I thought the people of the South-South were looking for self-determination? Ono, Owo, Afeni where are you? |

- what about the ugly girls? - what about the yellow ones like rita dominic? |
Looking at the world through your lense again.Don't we all? ![]() I don't see that animal sex a problem. It's their problem, not mine. As long as the adult girls are not being forced to degrade themselves by sleeping with animals, how does what they do in private hurt me? And why should I care about the animals when we all love to eat cow meat, goat meat and sometimes even dog meat? Surely having sex with a human being is not more painful than being butchered. They might even like it. ![]() |
Hotstepper, Uchie: thanks for sharing! |
Don't mind them. Africa is developing at a good pace, but some people choose not to see it. |
Guns, maybe? |
