Christianity EtcRe: How Do I Repent Again After Backsliding? by Seun(mod): 6:09pm On Mar 13, 2006
Here are the facts:
- You love your man, and your man loves you and wants to marry you.
- But you can't get married because the bible says "honor your parents (who don't accept him)"
- The bible does not have anything to encourage parents to be more tolerant.
- You can't even have sex because it's "fornication". Now you feel guilty over normal loving sex.

So what is making you unhappy? Christianity. Sorry to disturb your nice fellowship, but if I was in your boyfriend's shoes I will not be very happy at all. Other couples have real problems, you are agonizing over simple sex. I have a history with a certain girl, and when I call her all she wants to know is "Seun, do you go to church now?" angry

I'm happy for you, nawah. Don't let them make you guilty over your happiness. wink
FamilyRe: Should You Confront A Dishonest Spouse Or Collect Evidence? by Seun(mod): 5:54pm On Mar 13, 2006
It depends on what exactly your husband or wife has done. I'm sure that some situations will warrant confrontation while some will require further investigation. Good luck, Onyibaby! cool

Ono, those men who beat their wives must have been beating their sisters before they got married. I don't do that and so I see no reason why marriage will suddenly turn me into a woman panel-beater. If not for religion, none of what you are saying will have any merit. Religion is what is making you express these crude views. Why doesn't that same religion urge a man not to beat his wife instead of telling the wife to accept it?

topea, if the second husband is not ok, then single motherhood is always an option.
FamilyRe: Husbands Who Beat Their Wives by Seun(mod): 5:24pm On Mar 13, 2006
Let me simplify what I am saying for you Ono. A man must not beat a woman even if he finds her in bed with another man. Are now you satisfied? If she put salt in your food, go and cook the food yourself. Afterall salt is not poison. And if she poisons you, report to the police. This is not the dark ages my brother. If my sister's or friend's husband says he wants to beat her because she did one thing or the other, he will see pepper no be small. angry

FamilyRe: Wives: Would You Submit Your Paychecks To Your Husbands? by Seun(mod): 5:09pm On Mar 13, 2006
Since my husband is very reasonable with money, it has been only to my advantage.
According to some marriage counselors in my family, what nawah has described is advantageous if one partner is more thrifty and accounting-inclined than the other. According to them, that thrifty partner should be the one keeping the money and they should both decide on how to spend it. So if the wife is more responsible with money, she should be the one keeping the money. It would be stupid to submit your money to a man who is a gambler, for instance. It works for nawah only because of the kind of person her husband is. You cannot assume all husbands are like that.
FamilyRe: Husbands Who Beat Their Wives by Seun(mod): 4:44pm On Mar 13, 2006
Ok, Ono, that's enough. A lot of men are also very nasty with the way they talk, and the way they routinely threaten violence, and the women don't beat them because of that. I have also personally experienced more nasty words and behaviours from the mouths of men than the mouths of women.

And even though some women have said nasty things to me, I have never slapped a woman - or a man. I have been slapped by a girl once - I was in JSS2.

So I have heard enough. Just make sure you tell your girlfriend how many times a month you will be beating her before you trick her into marriage. That's enough. You are still in the 18th century when women were considered as being just a step above children and slaves.

FamilyRe: What Are Your Views On Divorce? by Seun(mod): 12:01pm On Mar 13, 2006
That is the exception rather than the rule. Many wife-beaters "know Christ". The energy spent convincing the wife to accept battery as her portion should be spent convincing the obstinate husband to shape up or else.
Dating And Meet-up ZoneRe: Nigerian Singles In The Us. by Seun(mod): 11:59am On Mar 13, 2006

PoliticsRe: Do We Have Lawmakers At All? by Seun(mod): 11:55am On Mar 13, 2006
Some of them like this woman, Abike Dabiri, who used to be a newscaster, are worthy of respect. But the popular belief is that the vast majority of them are crooks. Why? Because of how they got into the office.
CareerRe: Alumni Associations: Why Do We Create Them? by Seun(mod): 11:43am On Mar 13, 2006
Networking! People want to interact with old school friends so they can get jobs and business referrals through them. Others really enjoyed or did very well in school this makes them want to revisit the old times.
CareerRe: Boss Is Making My Work Unbearable Because I Said "No" by Seun(mod): 11:36am On Mar 13, 2006
Perhaps if you talk to the boss and let him know that you know what he is doing he would stop. If you:
1) Tell your friends or (male only) colleagues about it.
2) Call him privately let him know that harrassment is not what will make him appealing to you.
3) Indicate a willingness to report to authorities if the harrassment continues.

On the other hand, you must start:
4) Looking for a new job since you are no longer enjoying this one, or

An alternative is to:
5) Ask to be transferred to another department in the company where you will be under a different boss.
FamilyRe: What Are Your Views On Divorce? by Seun(mod): 10:59am On Mar 13, 2006
That clause means even when he/she's sick mentally and otherwise (like he starts beating you and all that), you'll have to stand by him/her until death parts you.
It is because of funny ideas like this that I believe in the use of police to deal with domestic violence. If the man is beating his 'beloved' wife woman and her friends and relatives are saying that this is all part of the sweetness of marriage, then maybe the only people that can save her are the police. Battery is a crime punishable by imprisonment even in Nigeria. Stand by your man if you must, but send him to jail first!
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Pls I Need A Job by Seun(mod): 10:54am On Mar 13, 2006
Create your own job. Look for something that people are complaining about and find a way to solve it in exchange for money. Nigeria cannot develop if all the young people are looking for free jobs. We need more people who will sit down to solve problems and make money. Use some of the energy to create your own job. You can post a thread in the business section and people from all over the world will advice you on what to do and if you need a little capital you'll be surprised that there are those abroad who can give 100,000 naira for a worthy businesscause without feeling it.

Nigerian youths. Please create your own jobs. There are so many problems in this country that you can solve and make money!
BusinessRe: I Have 1 Million Naira, I Want To Set Up An ISP by Seun(mod): 10:51am On Mar 13, 2006
I second that. You can employ something with Linux+ experience if you are unable to concentrate on that. Without delegation, you can't have a growing business. This explains the stagnation of Nairaland.
CultureRe: Are You Proud To Be A Nigerian? by Seun(mod): 10:49am On Mar 13, 2006
Hehe. For a school project I think it's innapropriate to distort reality to please "people". it's not as if they are primarily trying to please the audience to make money, right?
ComputersRe: Coollink Internet Services: A New ISP by Seun(mod): 10:39am On Mar 13, 2006
Interesting. According to their price list, they have toll-free dial-up Internet access at 9.450 per month and Fixed Wirless Broadband Internet access at 25,000 naira per month (though somewhere else they quote the price in dollars, which is conflicting.

Their broadband info is vague about the bandwidth their provide: "oollink Broadband for Small Business can connect at up to 1Mbs downstream." huh

FamilyRe: Co-habitation Before Marriage by Seun(mod): 10:17am On Mar 13, 2006
I think it's an interesting practice. I think it's our young people's way of reacting to the problem of late marriage. Your blood is hot, and you have all what it takes to be married, but you are afraid of commitment so you give it a trial. Doesn't sound bad to me. It's a nice way I can eat my cake and have it! cheesy
