2019 ELECTIONS : "YOUR LIFE IS PRECIOUS" OSUN SPEAKER WARNS YOUTHS. The speaker of the Osun State house of Assembly, Dr. Najeem Salaam sounded note of warning to the youths in the state and the county at large not to allow themselves to used by politicians as political thugs in the forthcoming elections. The Speaker said this during the passage of the 2019 Appropriation Bill on the floor of the house in osogbo yesterday. He emphasized that youths should place high premium on their lives and not give it up for politicians' ambitions. He equally advised his colleagues and politicians in the state and the country at large not to see election as a do or die affair. Dr Salaam urged politicians to see election into political offices as a call to service from God, therefore politicians should not to force themselves into power. He advised elected officials to focus on how to make life better for the people that trust them enough to vote them into power. On a final note, the Speaker canvassed the electorates to cast their votes President Muhammadu Buhari and all APC Candidates in the coming general elections. http://najeemsalaam.com/2019-elections-your-life-is-precious-osun-speaker-warns-youths/ |
Osun2018 : THE UNEQAULLED AGENDA by Akinyemi Oluwaseye “The purpose of government is to enable the people of a nation to live in safety and happiness. Government exists for the interests of the governed, not for the governors.” – Thomas Jefferson On Thursday 28 June 2018, the roads navigating Osogbo stood still with grandeur. The bike-riders were frolicking in unison with uncommon euphoria. The excitement that radiated the faces of the market women competed with the radiance of the glowing sun. School children erupted after closing hours to joyful jubilation; waving their hands to the cheering multitude of followers. As I journeyed into the State of Osun from the ‘City of Brown Roofs’, I was amazed to meet a battalion of advocates whose tongues echoed nothing but a few resonating words: Iwaloye lole se – It is Iwaloye who can do it. At the APC Secretariat, religious and traditional leaders were seated in rare splendor to grace the declaration of their next governor. Surely, it was the day Rt Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam (PhD) declared his gubernatorial ambition to the virtuous people of the State. At first, the staggering crowd that witnessed the occasion left my mouth ajar. If not that it had taken place earlier in Abuja, I would have thought the National Convention of the Ruling APC had been relocated to Osun. Such a mammoth crowd was meant for political campaigns or national conventions; not just a declaration of intent in a gubernatorial race. But eavesdropping to the conversations of passersby, market women, commercial drivers, shop owners, food vendors and youths around, they severally spoke of the virtues of a man whose leadership they believe would stimulate continuous development and strengthen overall peace and stability in the State. I won’t forget an aged woman waving broom at our car with a gleeful smile; as if that was the most joyous day of her life. But no, better days are ahead; especially with what I heard at the declaration and have seen contained in “My Security Agenda (In All Ramifications).” The ultimate struggle for the control of minds and resources of men and nations is what pundits call politics. There is difference, however, between politics and leadership; in actual fact, not all politicians are leaders. Meanwhile, when people see good leaders, they identify them; and when they lose them, they become downtrodden and unhappy. While this is a known truism, the political space in Nigeria has been bastardized because it has been infiltrated by individuals who are morally bankrupt and also lacking in the art of governance. The emergence of these individuals in government has typically brought discontinuation of good legacies of outgoing/outgone administrations. Importantly, the unwillingness of good people to take the bull by the horn, rather than saying politics is a dirty game, has worsened the status quo. Hence, citizens have been afflicted with the manifestation of Plato’s view that the punishment for those who refuse to participate in politics is that they will be ruled by those inferior to them.” The solution to the aforementioned challenge is that people of good will, with proven track records of honesty, dignity and integrity must come forth to participate in politics. This is what Rt Hon. Salaam has done and it surely rekindles the hope of many citizens that an individual who has been trusted and tested is willing to take high responsibilities in service to his people and humanity. Theoretically, he has studied politics to the zenith; having bagged a doctorate degree in Political Science. Practically, aside his involvement as a student, his political experience is close to three decades; having begun politics from the grass root in 1995. Hence, his ability to wed political theories with practical governance makes him the most prepared individual to be Osun’s next number one citizen. Brian Chapman once opined that, “The determination of ends, the choice of means, the balance of social forces, are the stuffs of politics.” This insightful opinion appears factual as demonstrated in the agenda of Dr. Salaam. His agenda encapsulates succinctly the programmes that can advance the overall development of State of Osun. It is no exaggeration that the agenda truly brings to fore the practical ways he plans to “expand the frontiers of the human and material development, by application of common sense solutions to relieve, recover and reform” the State in line with practices in developed nation. I cannot agree less that the Agenda is document that brings to limelight a man who thinks globally and acts locally in order to propel his people to economic prosperity and progressive development. A glimpse at the Agenda exposes the preparation of Dr. Salaam for the herculean tasks of governance and his readiness to hit the ground running. And no doubt, when opportunity eventually meets his preparations, success is certain. The core areas captured by the Agenda include: security of life and property; food security; education security; empowerment security; technology-driven economy; industrial estate; sports; and health security. With these interrelated programmes whose pursuit will be propagated with strong political will and commitment, one is rest assured that State of Osun in the next political dispensation will witness impacting changes and enduring legacies. Many political aspirants churn out words that are contrasted with their actions and inactions. Unlike these aspirants, Dr. Salaam has over the years demonstrated that he is a man who walks his talks. Importantly, his wealth of leadership experience in managing diverse interests that characterise legislative assemblies is an indicator that he is a competent, reliable and exclusive leader. Unlike many political office holders, he is a bridge-builder whose political leadership has always been characterised by selflessness and devoid of ethno-religious jingoism. His ability to handle the State of Osun House of Assembly for more than 7 years without any rancor implies his executive administration will further strengthen harmony across all divides and promote mutual understanding among all Omoluabis. “My Security Agenda” is an unequalled agenda whose contents will be broken down gradually in subsequent writings. One thing was manifest during Speaker Salaam’s declaration, he is loved by all and sundry and the good people of Osun State know he is the best . It was not much surprise that whenever APC was mentioned, the crowd responded with Iwaloye, instead of ‘change!’ Indeed, he has been a progressive agent of change and if there is any change desired in Ipinle Omoluabi at this time, he is the ‘Change.’ Yes, he is indeed the Change

OFFICIAL CARS NOT OUR PRIORITY...OSUN SPEAKER The speaker of the State of Osun House of Assembly Rt Hon Najeem Folasayo Salaam has made it clear today, 30th August2016 that official cars for the members of the State 6th Assembly is not a priority as it does not translate to development in the State. He said this in a swift reaction to a comment passed by the Minority Leader honorable Safiriyu Akinwole representing Ife East State Constituency (PDP) who was given the floor to pass comment on the 25th anniversary of the State. Hon. Safiriyu said "Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola started well but recently due to the economic crunch, the governor is lagging behind in some areas sighting the instance of members of the State 6th Assembly not having official cars...." but the speaker reacting promptly said "Giving cars to honorable members of the State Assembly is not a priority and does not in any way translate to development" The Speaker added that they are elected to serve the people and not themselves and that members must be ready to make sacrifices till things get better. The honourables unanimously appreciate the works of the past governors of the State and especially the present governor Rauf Aregbesola for his doggedness and the ongoing massive development in the state.
