You should have attended the conference alone, it's a business trip... when you return you can apply for your family. The V.O is not convinced you will return to Nigeria with your family, you're going for U.S Visa interview for the first time with your main ''ties'' segsdynamic: I had my B1/B2 interview yesterday 18th Apr and my visa was denied along with my wife and my 3yrs old baby.
Location: U.S embassy Lagos
Our interview timing scheduled for 7:30 a.m we reach embassy around 5:45am, soon the security screening started and people started lining up according to the timing slot. We were lined up and like 70 other applicant were in front of us. But due to the fact that we had a baby, the security guys gave us expedite service and we were brought to the front row for the security check.
Fast forward getting to the interview hall. Also many applicants were aiidy lined up. Again they gave us expedite services and we were lined up to the front when they want to check our documents. The guy collected our passport and after checking all our docs. He asked me hw old is our baby and I said 2 n half years old, he then insert a pink carbon paper inside my baby's passport that we can show them on the next queue so they will attend to us fast.
Again they place us in the front to have our biometric. It was a white woman who did our biometric, and told us my baby won't need to do biometric .. but my baby insist she wanna do biometric and started disturbing us.
Now, after biometric and again they took us to counter window 5. It was a black America lady. She approves the 2 guys in front of us for F1 visa.
Interview proper. VO: Good morning, hw are you Me and My Wife: Fine...Thank you (with a little smile) VO: Ur passport pls Me: (gave all our 3 passports) VO: (first question asking me) have you travelled before? Me: Yes, have been to India and Dubai. VO: (she asked my wife the same question) My wife: Yes, have been to Dubai and Oman
VO: why are you travelling to the United states Me: I'm going to the United state for the 2023 Midwest Travel Network conference which is coming up in Kansas city...and as a travel Manager in my company.. my company is sending me for....(VO cuts in)
VO: Midwest what? Me: Midwest Travel Network conference, and I try to expatiate on it further. (keeps typing)
VO: who is sponsoring you? Me: my company will be sponsoring my trip and I will sponsor my wife and my kids
VO: is company sponsoring ur family also? Me: No, I will be responsible for my wife and my kid.
VO: how long will you be staying? Me: 2 weeks
VO keeps typing... for another 1-2mins and turns to my wife. VO: What do you do? My wife: I have a restaurant which I run and I have some staffs there VO: (keeps typing) and ask my wife again are you seeking any medical attention. My wife: No... VO: You are not going for any medical attention? We both answer together: NO VO: keeps typing again for long time......
VO: Sorry but you are not qualified at this time She hands us the blue paper (214B)
Me: Thanks and we left.
Note: we have all documents intact all letters from my company, payment receipt for the conference, invitation letter, bank statement both company and my personal statement. She didn't give us any chance to present any of the documents.
What really went wrong in case of another time. |

Do I need to specify the purpose of her visit on the letter of invitation or create a generic invitation? Will specifying that she is coming to help with the newborn harm or help her visa approval? Thanks for your responses. That means your sister is coming to U.S to work, if it was your mom it's a bit understandable. |

I applied for visa renewal for a relative last night. He qualified for IW and got approved this morning. However, when I tried to schedule the appointment, I got this. Does this mean he will be appearing for an interview? Or does this just means this is the date he could go submit his documents at DHL?
Thanks The approval means you're free to pick any date for drop box at DHL. |

So just looking for some advise to save costs. I am trying to book my return flight back to Nigeria, wondering if I must buy a seat so I can use a car seat for my baby or I can just take a gamble and board with hopes of finding an empty seat. These tickets are so pricey.
What would you advise? How old is your baby? |

tshtsh: In February 2020 I arrived New york JFK airport for a five day visit. I used the self service kiosk and it printed a receipt with a black "X". The CBP officer (black american) asked me about my trip and stamped me in after biometric verification (finger printing). Before this she asked me about my trip to USA in 2019 which I denied. I insisted that I did not visit USA in 2019 rather I visited Miami for 7 days in september 2018 and stayed at a hotel in South beach. Afterwards she closed her booth and asked me to follow her. She asked how many checked in luggage I had and I responded that I had one. She joined me to the baggage belt and I got my suitcase. I followed her to a section of the arrival hall where her colleague removed everything in in my bag and scanned the bag. Used a handheld drill to drill a hole on some section of my box. Afterward they took me to a room and searched me before asking me about the purpose of my trip and where I stayed when I visited USA in 2018. They returned my passport to me and jokingly asked me if I had ever gone through this search before lol. I told them No. I left and spent 2 days in new york then 3 days in baltimore before returning to naija.
In May 2022 I arrived USA (Detroit) and when asked the purpose of my trip I told the CBP officer that I was going to Canada. She asked if I was driving to Canada from Detroit and I told her I was going by air from detroit to Toronto. She stamped me in and I sent a few hours in detroit before heading out to Toronto.
Last week I arrived Toronto from Lagos (via cairo egypt air) at 7:15am. Went into the city and returned to the airport at 1pm for a flight to Chicago. There are US CBP staff situated at Toronto pearson airport. The CBP officer (black american) asked me why I was going to USA and I told her I was going to visit my cousin in Chicago. She verified my fingerprint , closed her booth and told me to follow her. We got to the secondary inspection room and she took my passport inside while I sat down. Her colleague later returned with my passport and asked me about my trip and requested that I list out all countries I've been to in the last 3 years. I told him and he asked if that was all. I insisted then he asked about my trip to egypt. I told him I only used egypt air to toronto and transited through Cairo airport for three hours. He then asked about my trip to chicago and if I had any checked-in luggage. I had just a school bag. He checked my boarding pass and wished me a safe journey after returning my passport to me.
I don't know why I had to go through this. I spent only 3 days in chicago (jan 15 - 18) and left USA on wednesday. Surprisingly in both cases they admitted me in for 6 months before directing me to secondary inspection. Thinking of even writing to them because as polite as this whole thing is it makes me feel uncomfortable travelling to USA. Most times I travel to USA I spend less than a week and it seems to be raising a red flag. Your name was flagged, I mean the system flagged your name, there's possibility that your name matched a name and description they're looking for. You should write and complain about the routine secondary inspection even though, admitting you into U.S is at the pleasure of CBP. |

Is it possible for me to cancel my current appointment and use same receipt for the interview waiver? I qualify for the interview waiver. My current interview appointment is Jan 9th 2024, i think it is too far, and it was booked before the introduction of the interview waiver Program. I look forward to response from anyone who has done this and it worked, or any input from anyone with experience on this. Thanks. When did your last visa expired. |

larlar20: Please this information circled in the screenshot, based on what you said that if you paid visa fees before May 1, you still qualify for IW, how does it affect an applicant who paid their visa fees in March, being that March is prior to May, however March till date is over 6 months. This is causing me some confusion, as both information seem conflicting. Please kindly help me clarify this. Thanks a lot Those information are irrelevant, to be qualified for Dropbox, your visa must have been issue in 2018, you must have traveled to the U.S with it and lastly your last appearance at the U.S embassy must not have resulted in denial of visa (examples you may have a valid B1B2 visa and apply for student visa, if rejected, you're not qualified for Dropbox) |

Magma012: Hi Everyone,
I want to ask for those that have gone for conference in the USA.
can I apply for a conference in texas and land at LA airport?
is this a red flag at POE? Why do you want to Land in LA when you're suppose to land in Texas, my suggestion is that if you don't have genuine reason to land in LA, just land in any airport in East Coast. |
