I was at my barber's shop this evening to barb my hair. And there was this olamide song that was aired on one of the music channel. Title "letter to milli" part of his lyrics caught my attention. It goes thus; "For every level there’s a different devil
I sold my soul to the game just to dine with the devil
I hope I make heaven" Does it mean that these guys go thus far to acquire worldly pleasure that is ephemeral at the expense of their soul.
Religion / A Christian Pregnant Woman Sentenced To Death. by SEYIKP(m): 9:40am On May 17, 2017
Hours after a Sudanese court sentenced his pregnant wife to death when she refused to recant her Christian faith, her husband told CNN he feels helpless.
"I'm so frustrated. I don't know what to do," Daniel Wani told CNN on Thursday. "I'm just praying."
This week a Khartoum court convicted his wife, Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, 27, of apostasy, or the renunciation of faith.
Ibrahim is Christian, her husband said. But the court considers her to be Muslim.
The court also convicted her of adultery and sentenced her to 100 lashes because her marriage to a Christian man is considered void under Sharia law.
The court gave her until Thursday to recant her Christian faith -- something she refused to do, according to her lawyer.
During Thursday's sentencing hearing, a sheikh told the court "how dangerous a crime like this is to Islam and the Islamic community," said attorney Mohamed Jar Elnabi, who's representing Ibrahim.
"I am a Christian," Ibrahim fired back, "and I will remain a Christian."
Her legal team says it plans to appeal the verdict, which drew swift condemnation from human rights organizations around the world.
In the meantime, Ibrahim, who is eight months' pregnant, remains in prison with her 20-month-old son.
"She is very strong and very firm. She is very clear that she is a Christian and that she will get out one day," Elnabi told CNN from Sudan.
Ibrahim was born to a Sudanese Muslim father and an Ethiopian Orthodox mother. Her father left when she was 6 years old, and Ibrahim was raised by her mother as a Christian.
However, because her father was Muslim, the courts considered her to be the same, which would mean her marriage to a non-Muslim man is void.
The case, her lawyer said, started after Ibrahim's brother filed a complaint against her, alleging that she had gone missing for several years and that her family was shocked to find she had married a Christian man.
A family divided
The court's ruling leaves a family divided, with Ibrahim behind bars and her husband struggling to survive, Elnabi said.
Police blocked Wani from entering the courtroom on Thursday, Elnabi said. Lawyers appealed to the judge, but he refused, Elnabi said.
Wani uses a wheelchair and "totally depends on her for all details of his life," Elnabi said.
"He cannot live without her," said the lawyer.
The couple's son is having a difficult time in prison.
"He is very affected from being trapped inside a prison from such a young age," Elnabi said. "He is always getting sick due to lack of hygiene and bugs."
Ibrahim is having a difficult pregnancy, the lawyer said. A request to send her to a private hospital was denied "due to security measures."
There also is the question of the timing of a potential execution.
In past cases involving pregnant or nursing women, the Sudanese government waited until the mother weaned her child before executing any sentence, said Christian Solidarity Worldwide spokeswoman Kiri Kankhwende.
Rights groups, governments ask for compassion
Amnesty International describes Ibrahim as a prisoner of conscience.
"The fact that a woman could be sentenced to death for her religious choice, and to flogging for being married to a man of an allegedly different religion, is abhorrent and should never be even considered," Manar Idriss, Amnesty International's Sudan researcher, said in a statement.
"'Adultery' and 'apostasy' are acts which should not be considered crimes at all, let alone meet the international standard of 'most serious crimes' in relation to the death penalty. It is a flagrant breach of international human rights law," the researcher said.
Katherine Perks with the African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies said the verdict goes against Sudan's "own Constitution and commitments made under regional and international law."
"Meriam has been convicted solely on account of her religious convictions and personal status," she said.
Foreign embassies in Khartoum are urging the government there to reverse course.

I am proud to be a fan of the best club in the world "fc Barcelona". But there's one thing that always amuse me the rate at which most fans of other football clubs especially the epl fans hate Barcelona as if the club is holding unto their breakthrough in life. Some will even call the club all sought of names. Last night doing the clash of the titans between Real Madrid v Bayern Munich. We saw the flaws of the centre man and his lines men issuing unwarranted red card and counting those offsides goals. If it were to be Barcelona that enjoyed the favour of the officials, the Hell would have let loose by the quack pundits calling for the head of the referee and the club.

Nairaland / General / Here's How Much Money Obama And Biden Will Get From Their Pensions by SEYIKP(m): 9:45am On Jan 21, 2017
Though former President Barack Obama has said he isn't retiring yet, he's already set to receive a healthy governmental pension.
The Former Presidents Act lays out the benefits past presidents receive after they leave office, including a pension and additional funds for travel, office space, staff, and other requirements needed to "maintain the dignity" of the presidency.
Per the statute, Obama's annual presidential pension is $205,700—the same amount as former presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Jimmy Carter. The amount is linked to Cabinet Secretary pay, which is set at Executive Level I pay.
While the presidential pensions are all fixed at the same rate, the current president requests funding from Congress for additional expenses related to former presidents. Those expenses vary widely, mainly because of differences in office space rental costs, per a report from the Congressional Research Service. For example, Jimmy Carter was appropriated $430,000 in fiscal year 2015, while George W. Bush received $1,098,000. Bush received $434,000 for office space that year, while Carter received $112,000.
Upon leaving office, Obama is set to receive less money in FPA funds than any other living president. While he did request an increase of $588,000 in FPA funding for 2017, only $359,000 of it was earmarked for himself—which includes his $205,700 pension, staff salaries, office space, etc.—and the other $229,000 will be distributed between the other four presidents.

Additional appropriations to help the president and his family "transition" to their new life and pay for Secret Service protection are provided through different statutes. For example, Obama requested $9.5 million for the U.S. General Services Administration to carry out the Presidential Transition Act this year (that's for both his transition and Vice President Biden's), including $1 million to brief incoming president Donald Trump's administration.
Former Vice President Joe Biden, on the other hand, receives his retirement income based on his role as President of the Senate. Rules for Senate pensions are much more complicated than presidential pensions, but assuming he has been covered under the Civil Service Retirement System for the past 43 years, Biden's pension could be around $248,670 per year. Former vice presidents do not receive Secret Service protection.
The FPA does not cover health benefits, but former federal employees who were enrolled in the Federal Employees Health Benefits program for five years can receive benefits after their time in office is over. (Carter, who served one term as president and held no other federal role, therefore doesn't qualify.)The Huffington Post reports that Obama will also receive "$383,535 from the Illinois state pension he earned in eight years as a state lawmaker" once he retires.
Nairaland / General / What American Presidents Do When They Leave The White House by SEYIKP(m): 9:36am On Jan 21, 2017
Barack Obama is handing over the US presidency to his successor, Donald Trump, and leaving the White House after eight years in office.
While the president joked he would like to work at Spotify, in reality he's pledged to stay politically active.
But, while we might reasonably expect a book, some television interviews, the 44th president has only given a small clue to what he'll do next.
Could he take some inspiration from the 42 men* who preceded him perhaps?
John Adams (1797-1801)

After his four years as the second US president, John Adams retired to a quiet life with his wife Abigail.
He lived for another 25 years surrounded by family and spent a lot of time writing.
He died on the same day as Thomas Jefferson, the third US president, on 4 July 1826, 50 years after the American Declaration of Independence.
James Madison (1809-1817)

James Madison was a plantation owner and after he stepped down he returned to his land, where he kept slaves.
He was active in the American Colonization Society, a controversial organisation which tried to return slaves to Africa.
William Henry Harrison (1841)

The ninth US president is also known for serving the shortest amount of time and being the first one to die in office.
After just 32 days in the role, he is said to have died of pneumonia after catching a cold.
While a popular story claims he caught it while giving his long inauguration speech in poor weather, there is little evidence to support this theory.
Grover Cleveland (1885-1889 and 1893-1897)

Grover Cleveland is the only man in history to serve a term as president, only to return to the job a few years later.
After his second presidential term, he played the stock market in order to support his family, making a considerable amount of money.
(*This is why, while Barack Obama is the 44th president, there are 42, as opposed to 43, men who have preceded him.)
Theodore Roosevelt (1901-1909)

Theodore Roosevelt tried to become president for a third time in 1912 but lost to Woodrow Wilson (before 1951 there was no limit on how many terms presidents could serve).
Afterwards he took his son Kermit to explore the River of Doubt in Brazil.
Battling malaria and dealing with a leg injury in a hostile environment, the trip nearly killed him.
Some people in the US though didn't believe he'd managed to navigate the river while injured and ill.
Richard Nixon (1969-1974)

The Watergate scandal forced Republican Richard Nixon to resign.
His administration had been involved in a cover-up, after a break-in at the Democratic National Congress revealed his opponents had been secretly recorded.
Nixon faced health and financial problems during the fallout, but later sold his memoirs, carried out paid interviews and returned to the world stage.
Jimmy Carter (1977-1981)

He's often held up as the best example of what to do after your time as US president comes to an end.
Jimmy Carter, whose foreign policy problems tainted his presidency, has since worked for humanitarian causes, as well as working in international diplomacy and writing several books.
In 2002 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and at the age of 92 he is still involved in charitable projects such as building homes for disadvantaged people.
We've got our first clue from Barack Obama (2009-2017)

Barack and Michelle Obama announced that, after taking a break, they're opening a "centre for citizenship" on the south side of Chicago.
Outgoing presidents get to open a presidential library in their home states.
But Barack Obama says his library will be a "centre for citizenship," and will take ideas from citizens on which young leaders and organisations they should be supporting.
