Music/Radio / Re: Kendrick Lamar Or J.cole?: Who Is The Leader Of New School Rap? by Shadbay(m): 9:22am On Dec 14, 2016
NeededGist:
I'd definitely pick Kendrick Lamar over j. Cole. His to_pimp a butterfly is a world class album, the album talked on racism, political views, gang fights and all the rest. He is really a great story teller. Listen to Tracks like momma, mortal man, etc and I promise that you would love rap. Though I also listen to j. Cole, his forest Hills drive gave him double platinum with no features that's a rare thing to accomplish but I pick Kendrick over him.
Ps: that's just my view.
Other notable mentions Drake, this nigga knows about the game, his album views is definitely a classic. Looking at previous albums like if you're reading this it's too late, that's a good piece. He surely started from the bottom and now he is here. But a lot of times he goes too emotional. Talks about women and all other stuff but he still the best when we talking on sales.
Future too is not doing bad.

I stopped reading right after you said Drake's Views is a classic. Nigguh, what?!! Do you even know what is a classic album? Kendrick is the only new school rapper(poet) with not just one but three classic albums(Section 80, GKMC, TPAB). All his albums are revered and have widespread critical acclaim. 20 years plus from now his albums will still resonate cos his works are timeless!

Lmao! Views a classic? Nigguh hell naw, not even close. Drake doesn't even have a classic in his discography. His music is just for that moment, say few months and is totally forgotten. Then he moves to the next trend.

OPEN LETTER TO BUHARI FROM #making_NYSC_OPTIONAL_GROUP
OUR names are NIGERIAN YOUTHS,The fresh graduates of the VARIOUS Nigerian UNIVERSITIES.

Last week, we got some disturbing information as regard to the NYSC mobilisation of prospective corp members and we want everyone of us to be aware of the evil that is about to befall all fresh graduates and students if urgent measures/precautions aint taken.

It is no more news that the number of prospective corp members in all institutions for Batch B have been drastically slashed due to "tight budgetary allocation", we guess we owe this to the present economic recession. Some universities
Unizik for example has been slashed from 2314 to 894, OAU-IFE has been slashed from 4000 to 1600, EKSU-ADO EKITI was slashed from 5200 to 1700, FUOYE was slashed to 400 when they still have a set not yet mobilized, Federal Polytechnic ado ekiti was slashed to 200, hmmm that's jst like one third of the prospective members.

Uniabuja not excluded can only mobilize 546 members, this is even less than the total number of graduates in three departments of the institution. Our question now is what happens to the backlog? I guess the answer is they have to wait till the next batch and with this numbers, it is certain not all of them will make it to another batch.

It has been proved that 70% of Batch B(formerly batch C) corp members are those that had extra semester or their academic calendar was interrupted and d remaining 30% are fresh graduates from schools whose academic calendar are faster or barely interrupted. This further indicates that fresh graduates waiting for batch A may even triple this recent number. if my calculation is right, some of us might have to wait 2-3yrs before youth service.

This would have been ok if without NYSC certificate we can
1. Be eligible to compete in the labour market.
2. Go for my masters degree
But the sad news is without the certificate we can't achieve all this,so all we have to do is 'wait'? Even if it takes years?
We understand the country is going through economic recession but should the lives of we youth also recede because of it? I say a capital NO to that! what happens to those that are close to 3o and hence might be deprived of NYSC programme if the delay should persist. So all those waiting period turns to exercise in futility. smh.

As much as we love to wear that khaki,we wouldn't want to waste precious years of my life at the expense of wearing it. In a country where most of us have used extra years in studying due to ASUU strikes and other internal strikes. In a country where your age really matters in the labour market.
In a country where even after NYSC,70% of graduates are unable to get jobs untill after 2yrs or more. In a country where we give more attention and respect to what is written in the paper than what is 'in the head'. In a country where young graduates are being asked to present evidence of 5yrs of working experience before they can be employed.

We all need to rise and stop this evil before it stops us. Government shouldn't gamble with our future if they can't cater for all of us at once. let NYSC be OPTIONAL and stop making obnoxious decisions that are detrimental to our future.

Join us in spreading this message with #makeNYSCoptional #Livesofyouthmatters
We can no longer sit and watch while our future being toiled with. You can also attach your own reasons why you think NYSC should be optional. You may not be concerned but please for the sake of people around you who may be affected, let's all repost this message and #makeNYSCoptional trend till it gets to the right channel.

Education / Eunice Udensi Is York College Valedictorian Best by Shadbay(m): 12:48am On May 15, 2016
York Valedictorian Makes Five for Five for Chemistry Dept.

The York College Valedictorian for the Class of 2016 has emerged and for the fifth consecutive year there is an affiliation with the Chemistry department.

Eunice Udensi, valedictorian of the Class of 2016
Eunice Udensi, a Pharmaceutical Science major mentored in the Chemistry department, came to York from her native Abia State, Nigeria four years ago and quickly acclimated to a busy college life of research and co-curricular activities.

Early on, her impressive GPA caught the attention of Amy Wolfe in the Academic Advisement Center, which led to tutoring jobs in the Mathematics lab and Academic Achievement Center, where then-director Steven Tyson, told her that with her grades she could become valedictorian of her class.

“I didn’t know what that meant,” said Udensi. “But I didn’t want him to know that I did not know. So I looked it up when I got home and told myself I would do it.”

While searching online for the meaning of the impressive word, Udensi also came across Tony Wan’s TV interview when he was York’s valedictorian in 2012. That sealed her commitment.

“I didn’t know about things to apply for,” said Udensi. But Dr. Tyson motivated me to apply for internships and came in on a Sunday to do a recommendation letter for me. He motivated me to apply for all these opportunities.”

“These opportunities” would go on to include a research internship at Stony Brook University; a Thurgood Marshall College Fund Leadership Institute internship and a dizzying list of awards received through York.

She received the Prof. Eugene Levin Scholarship for Excellence in Science and Paid Summer Internship; became a member of the Honors Program, Wells Fargo Scholar, and Mildred Cooper Scholar; and made the Dean’s List throughout her four years at York (2012-2016) and Sigma Alpha Pi 2014-2016.

Udensi, the second of five children in her family, also made time for membership in the Chemistry and the Pre-Med Clubs. She was tailor-made for rigorous academic work at York even before coming to York. Throughout her education in Nigeria, Udensi attended school Mondays through Saturdays and the summer months as well; and says it was “compulsory.”

“I felt at home when I came to York,” said Udensi, who now lives in Hollis, Queens. “The professors were very helpful.”

Among those “helpful” professors have been her research mentor, Dr. Ruel Desamero; and Dr. Yolanda Small, Dr. Adam Profit and mathematics professor Dr. Farley Mawyer. According to Desamero, Udensi shows great promise for medical school.

“She worked on studying the mechanism behind protein aggregation,” he said. “[It] is an interesting field because many diseases, like Type II diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Mad Cow, Parkinson’s…are caused by protein aggregation. While she was in the lab, she worked hard and learned techniques very quickly.”

The busy scholar was also accepted into the 10-week American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics-Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (ASPET-SURF) program at Sony Brook University in April 2015. Her mentor there, Dr. David Talmage’s research is based on type III neuregulin1-ERBB4 interactions.

At Stony Brook, Udensi researched on “Neuronal Type Specific Gene Therapy: Engineering Novel Cell Tropism in AAV.” I synthesized adeno-associated virus (AAV), which is specific to Trk A receptor and carries the gene responsible for the production of acetylcholine.

“Neuronal gene therapy with AAV, if feasible, will open doors for a lot of improvement in gene therapy for Alzheimer disease patients,” she explained.

Her research presentations at York have included, “As Certain as Day Turns to Night,” which highlights the experiments done by Heisenberg, Schrodinger’s Cat and the mathematical derivation of Schrodinger’s Equation; and “Zinc Fingers,” at the Natural Science presentation.

“Our students have the ability to do well,” said Tyson. "They just need someone to believe in them and give them opportunities.”

Udensi’s mother, Mrs. Kalu Udensi, still lives in Nigeria and will be watching her daughter’s valedictory speech . Her father, Mr. Udensi resides in the United States along with four of her siblings.
