My experience is that more Nigerians in the U.K. do more menial jobs

thats the point exactly 'ur experience' I've lived in UK for 15yrs, don't know anyone with a menial job, have family here, none have menial jobs, have friends here, non have menial jobs, when we 1st came it was different, we all had menial jobs! but as u progress through life things change so as u rightly said it's all about who u know and what pt in their life u know them. wink

Car Talk / Re: Traffic Violations In Lagos State Attract Ridiculous Fines by Shagari2(m): 11:13pm On Jun 14, 2008
I don't know what y'all are on about, driving in Lagos is total madness, people just completely disregard driving laws and regulations. If Lagos is to compete on a world stage its transportation system has to improve, its roads have to be safer and kept flowing. Heavy fines will discourage lawless behaviour on the roads.

Properties / Re: Why Pay House Rent In Advance? by Shagari2(m): 10:52pm On Jun 13, 2008
Because ours is a lawless country.
Because you don't have your own house.
Because the govt plays virtually no role in housing people.

RichyBlacK:

If she can cook: about $80,000 per month (without any kid); $100,000 per month (with no more than two kids).

If she can't cook: about $110,000 per month (without any kid); $150,000 per month (with no more than two kids).

These estimates are for the Lagos metropolis.

Hehe grin grin True that!

Business / Re: At What Point Are You A Millionaire? by Shagari2(m): 9:06pm On Aug 28, 2007
2 loafs of bogan costs a million in Zimbabwe.
You've got to be a 'millionaire' to breathe over there!

International business is done in $, so I guess you're a millionaire if you've got assets worth a million $.
Having said that, we'll break a mill $ assets to coins in the UK grin
TV/Movies / Re: What Will A Nigerian Superhero Be Like? by Shagari2(m): 12:09pm On Jun 04, 2007
He'd have a pot belly, crash land all the time, all accidents would have to occur b4 2pm because he'll be off by 2. He'll use his 'staff' status to demand for free everything. And the honeyz would be in trouble!!! grin grin

Orikinla and SMC please chill, lets make this section about literature only.

Literature / Re: I Celebrate You Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie by Shagari2(m): 9:51am On Mar 30, 2007
I'm sorry SMC but I have to disagree with you, yes it was half price but so were all the other books in the 'fiction charts' and her book was in the space with number 1 against it, you can all naive, but it seems to me that it means it's their number one best seller in that category. Mind you, I also went to WH Smith and it was number 3 there.

Brick Lane

Monica Ali

Monica is a wonderful young writer, she's a British lady of Bangladeshi parents and tells an all too familier story of immigrants living in the west and the clashing of cultures and values. A very good book. wink

TV/Movies / Re: Ramsey Nouah And Emeka Enyiocha For Hollywood by Shagari2(m): 1:25am On Mar 11, 2007
Orikinla:

Many are called, but few are chosen.
I believe more in Ramsey Nouah.
He will make it in Hollywood.
He has got the looks, the skills and the guts.

What looks, just because the guy is a local champion in Nigeria; what, you think he's Denzel or som'n? looks ko, looks ni!
Guts bigger than his are spilling over for a chance in Hollywood. He'd better stick to what he knows.
