Because at N87 our fuel sellers are not making any profit.

A businessman goes into business to make profit. Landing fees for fuel are more than N100 per liter.We import a lot of the fuel used in this country. Subsidy pays the difference. Meaning....little or no profit. Meanwhile, our fuel marketers have staff to pay, equipment to maintain and buy , and the wife's annual trip to Dubai to fund. . Hence the shenanigans......because a business man must make profit. (Unless you want to run an economy influenced by Marxist-Leninist principles).

And anyway, fuel is being sold at over N100 in many stations across the country. N87 exists only in Lag and in Abuja.(My folks bought fuel several weeks ago in Niger State at N170 per liter. DPR....won't go there).

In my opinion, fuel subsidy has to go. We are pouring money down a bottomless pit.Plus....we do not have enough money to subsidsze fuel....what with the fall in international oil prices .(The UAE and Saudi are contemplating removing subsides on fuel this year....and they have far more money saved than we do). GEJ made many mistakes....but proposing to remove fuel subsidy was not one of them(especially when SLS and NOI were in agreement....rare event, even now).PMB should remove fuel subsidy and do what GEJ tried to do....spend part of the money on mass transit projects.

Sorry Nigerians.....but either crude oil goes back up to 100 dollars per barrel or higher......or we go broke spending money on subsidies. Fellow Nigerians....tighten your seatbelts. Our time machine has taken us back to the 1980's.

I dnt think "removal of subsidy" was the issue back then as some want us to believe but HOW u go about removin it.

Removal of subsidy is an inevitable occurence but outright removal without puttin things in place structures to curtail the immediate financial drain that will result from such an action is a No No. What palliative measure were put in place?

Remember when the Telecoms space was opened-the MTN of ds world exploited us to the max and sold (now giveaway) sims for thousands, even told us that we cdnt make Per Second Billing. What if Obj had looked at reviving NITEL/MTEL before then we wd hv bn saved that exploitation because we wd b setting a benchmark for their pricin regime? This is still playing out in our Aviation industry because we dnt hv a National Carrier of our own!

Removing subsidy back den with all the thousand leakages and sharp practices in d system is a recipe for disaster because the system wl collapse on itself!

Structures like gettin the bare minimum local refining capacity in place among others need to be set up b4 you can give oil marketers "free rein".

The US already hv an established template for good governance where institutions WORK a product of strong leadership and whoevr is president now already has strong institutions to back him if he is "strong" or to keep him in check or weed them out if "weak".

So I think you are askin for too much if u expect institutions to jst emerge after d bastardization of our system. It takes time to build and characters like PMB is tryin to put such structures in place but it wont end wt him!

In leadership, two traits count-RESPECT & FEAR: your friends shd Respect you and not overstep the limits of d friendship and Your foes should Fear you knowing that any infraction of the Law on their part will lead to unleashing the full weight of the Law. This is the place where body language comes in.

Remembr what Tambuwal said about GEJ BODY LANGUAGE towards corruption..the revelations we hear everydy are a testament to d fact that Tambuwal was right eventho I wl say GEJ might nt know of d bulk of d mess but his body language screamed "Come and Chop, Its a free Restaurant!!

Watch and see. In few years time, the overbloated federal government and its ''Do Everthing Mentality'' will collapse under its own inefficiency. These projects can never be sustained with centralisation.
In advance societies, security matters especially the Police are exclusive responsibilities of states, not federal government.

This thing has bn talked about at different fora but every idea has its time no matter hw laudable it might seem!

Is Nigerian ripe for community policing? I wil say it depends on who u ask. Among other things the inherent fear of making some governors Alpha and Omega over the security agents in their state is still paramount considering what they do now with Police commissioners even with no powers over them.

Is Nigeria ripe for restructuring? It depends on who you ask. Will it come, yes it will! Has our system gone beyond its threashold of handling the inefficiencies of this system? Unfortunately, absolutely not!

As much as we mouth this issues, Nigerians are "federal thinking" than "state/local thinking" that is why nobody asks anythin about issues in their state or lga but wl easily mention the presidents name on every issue that should b handled by the state or lga.

So for now we wl keep managing this system and in the fullness of time, this ideas will birthe naturally!
