While I agree with you on the urgency for improved testing, what Buhari said about providing palliatives for loans obtained by businesses under lockdown is equally important.

The economic recession that will be caused by COVID 19 can also lead to hundreds of thousands of death in a country like Nigeria. Many SMEs are funded by loan financing and the monthly interest payment obligations in the absence of revenue is a business killer. Hence, providing them with a moratorium (suspension of repayments) is perfectly in order. A lot of other countries have done the same.

Heck, the German Finance Minister committed suicide cos of the looming economic recession, so don't downplay this kind of intervention.

The President is talking Abuja and Lagos. Heck, there is a case in Rivers State. If there was no testing done in Lagos and Abuja, we would not know the gravity.

There is no testing Lab in Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and I think Delta. Before feeding and waving loans, these should be addressed. Kits should be addressed. You need masks around the country. You need sanitizers. We need to disinfect the cities and rural communities regularly. I doubt we have enough funds for that to channel money for school feeding programme.

I am not saying it is not in order. However, priority. The speech today is a first line of action. Not relief.

You know, if he is a leader who addresses the people daily or at least 3 times a week, that can come later.

Today, we need the basics handled. Testing, Isolation, treatment, food supply chain, medical supply chain, kits for health workers, medicine. Innovative means of stopping immediate spread

When these pick up, he can talk of palliatives.

But first, the above require humongous amount of money when it concerns protecting the lives of millions of people. School feeding and loans is not a priority when he has not calculated how much it will cost to set up multiple testing centres across the country and isolation procedures.

If you imagine how much it will cost to test across the Nation in the coming days, you will understand the gravity.

Do you know over 50 doctors have died in Italy? We need talk of a strategy to provide safety kits for health care workers. We need an indepth study of the mistakes Italy made in care delivery and not repeat it.

What about safety masks for Citizens across the Nation. Sanitizers. The essentials come first before school feeding.

We need food chain to continue from the farms to the markets. These people will be like soldiers going to the war front. They need to be trained and kitted to keep them alive.

We need a team studying innovative testing kits coming out and see how to broker deals with them. We need another studying treatment report. We need a team setting up isolation centres.

He is not talking of setting up a medical strategic response team of medical intellectuals who will bring innovative schemes of tackling this head on. We need a Covid-19 temporary agency that will come up with different lines of actions.

From testing groups to treatment, to isolation.

God, Nigeria needs help.

No testing until now in large numbers when it concerns the greatest threat to humanity.

The President is more interested in school feeding programme than coming up with a strategy to save lives.

He is talking Lagos and Abuja. He buys every lie he is fed because he is sorry to say it a dumb person.

The only way to know the magnitude of what we are dealing with is widespread testing across the Nation. It will cost a lot. The earlier the better. We also need lots of medical supplies.

Countries are stockpiling drugs and we are looking for school feeding programme.

Our rulers need to be stoned.

Just listened to a pile of Crap from the President. No talk about improved testing. Instead he is talking of children feeding. No talk about safety kits for the citizens. Instead he is talking about loans.

Loans for which business that are in lockdown?

What Nigeria needs is testing kits to know the magnitude of spread. Then isolate those who test positive and treat them.

Please someone should inform the President that the first line of defence against the virus is not social distancing but widespread tests.

COVID 19 tests are being administered to people who meet the NCDC case definiton, or who have been in contact with an index case...and many of these cases came in by air. A lot of the elite use air transport. Hence the fact that it seems the elite get more of the tests...because some of them either meet the case definition or have had contact with confirmed cases

The chances of a poor Nigerian having contact with a confirmed case are relatively low...for now.

There is no definitive treatment for COVID 19...and no, Chloroquine, Azithromycin and so on are not definitive. Most of the treatment given is supportive...ie iv fluids, oxygen etc...and a minority of the infected will fall severely ill. Most will recover with or without treatment

That's why you should run for office and make a difference.

It seems we forget that most of the elites have workers. From drivers, to aides. It is proven that Covid-19 spreads fast. Very fast. We can not expect only those who came in by air and a few contacts is enough to check the spread.

We need to spread our testing to know the magnitude of what is going on. From the way it spread among the elites, definitely, there is a big chance it is spreading among non-elites. Which is a recipe for disaster.

I do not care about the names of the so called Big gods infected. I care about the number of people being tested, and the spread. We need the report of the testing process, the methodology and results. We need to know the national line of actions.

Not all Nigerians are fools not to know what is going on.

They are testing themselves to keep themselves alive and filing us with zee world drama story like it matters.

Those detected are not the problem, but those not tested that are spreading it.

They are aiming at testing 50,000 a day while I doubt since the outbreak in Nigeria started we have tested up to 10,000 people.

THE National Emergency Management Agency has urged the Federal Government to establish coronavirus testing centres in the South-South.

NEMA Zonal Coordinator, Walson Brandon, said the testing centres would fast-track the healing of any patient with the disease.

Brandon, who spoke with reporters in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said the few testing centres in the country would not be enough to tackle the virus.

He said having testing centres in the zone would urgently give a picture of the situation inside the communities as far as the fight against coronavirus was concerned.

Brandon said, “States like Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River do not have testing centres and this is why we are appealing to the Federal Government to create testing centres in the zone )South-South).

“The testing centres will quicken the process of healing as taking samples of suspected patient to a distance place for testing will delay their healing. Again, the creation of testing centres in the zone will quickly give us a picture of what is happening in the communities.”

Brandon said NEMA was collaborating with (state) ministries of health and information to step up preparedness and response activities, adding that the agency was also partnering World Health Organisation to provide essential medical supplies to the states in the zone.

He said, “In Rivers State, test kits and ventilators are needed by health workers to rightly respond to COVID-19 with urgency and purpose. The public is urged to call the Emergency Number 112 at any point of distress.”
