hirschfelder: Hello house, I hope we are all doing great. So, I was accepted at KSU for PhD in Chemical Engineering and I would like to share my experience with you all, since we started this journey together and will hopefully all get into great programs at the end! This is my second application cycle, I was rejected from all the schools I applied to for Fall, 2016. I was disconsolate as you'd imagine. Luckily, I stumbled upon this thread and gained so much information from it. I contacted a very active and helpful member, SirRiddy-he gave me some tips and suggested I re-write the GRE (my previous score was 310), IELTS-8/9. So, I did and got a better score (332), applied to a wider range of schools and got accepted into one of them. I would like to say, happening upon this thread made all the difference. If one makes use of the information posted here judiciously, great improvements in one's profile would be made. Soo, thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread in one way or the other! And special thanks to SirRiddy of course!!! Congrats bro |

Scholastica16: Thanks in no particular order to:
Tescoman90, Andradaeze, jaybiz007, seeker88, towbaynah, sirRiddy, Drhopeful, OGreene, iPledge01, Cephas009, Hirschfelder, Time2Smile, Topiipii.
I saw the mentions but I knew I was going to be busy all through then till now.
The most painful aspect about a rejection apart from the (application fee and every other expenses incurred) is the fact that you may never know why. I guess my only consolation is that I couldn't attend all the schools at the same time had I gotten all admits in each of the schools.
I remain optimistic about my other chances.
#TeamFall2017 As much as no one wants to experience rejection wrt applications, it doesn't define the end bro. This particular rejection only helped you prune your choices. All things work together for good. I believe you'll get accepted by other schools you applied to. In fact, that acceptance mail is coming very soon. Cheer up bro. |

iCool: @OGreene. Thanks.
1. Did they initially give you any funding? 2. What magnitude of funding are you requesting for now?
Master, I deh work o so small bread deh enter. August still far, maybe I sell one kidney take complete the money. @1. They didn't give funding initially but they gave me as well as every other applicants in my department an option to indicate if I wanted assistantship when I was applying. @2. From what I know, they give funding in terms of tuition waiver and monthly stipends (GA). So that's what I'm requesting. In fact, I'm just waiting for the positive mail from the grad cord coz I have so much faith that I'll get it. P.S: No sell ur kidney oo. You go need am for Trumpland |

sirRiddy: LOL you are talking like a real OBO in this Buhari economy and Trump disaster era. Be sure of all your financial obligations before booking a plane ticket to avoid stories that touch. The exchange rate is not smiling and the in-state tuition itself is not the best deal these times to be honest. Forget all this 'hustling' o. When tuition is waived, your mind fit rest and face classes. GA or no deal o. Wish you the best and hope you get something good Lol. The guy na hustler As for me, I unequivocally told my grad cord that it's either funding or no deal(but na after I don accept their offer ) I can't afford to start thinking of how to sort my bills in Trumpland due to this terrible exchange rate. @icool. 9k which is annual.... Split into 2 and it is 'hustle-able'. It's all good. Congrats once again and you'll get funding by God's grace even though you be hustler . See you in Trumpland soon bro. |

Tolulopefinest: Am actually an Akokaite
I can authoritatively say that UNILAG is Overhyped 1. The use of the word 'am'. So you won't make the same mistake in your exams, the correct word is "I'm". 2. You're not a true Akokaite Akokite. I guess you're still a fresher or probably, you weren't given the course you desired. 3. Unilag is not Overhyped. It's like saying Messi is overhyped. I really don't know when some Nigerians will learn. Has the recession gone so bad that their brains have also been affected? Poverty indeed is a state of the mind. Come to think of it, even a traffic warden is there doing nothing. This country, with most of its inhabitants, really needs a reset.
RIP in advance to the foolish and unlucky ones. |

This school is all messed up now. No wonder, people don't patronize them any longer. I was fortunate to do my OND program there when the school administration was still intact(2008-2009). Then, as a computer engineering student, you don't wanna mess with Baba's course(calculus), even though the school made money from students who failed it and had to pay school fees for extra year(s) to re-write it. I knew LCP would become crap the moment I heard that the rector had been changed. Lecturers started asking for bribes openly. Even "Mr. Suit" was not immune to such venality by asking for a tip when he wanted to sign my clearance form. Thank God, I didn't go beyond the OND program. Proudly an alumnus of Unilag now.
Bottom line: LCP is an advanced secondary school with high tuition fees and poor learning environment. |

This article is so on point. This is in consonance with my belief: Know what you want, associate with people of like minds, invest your time wisely. Don't sit at home expecting jobs to fall from the sky. A number of graduates these days are ignorant and not proactive. Learn how to write CVs and cover letters. Practice job assessment tests, study more to be updated in your field, don't despise days of little beginning and trust God for favour.
But wait oo, how come this post is just making FP since August 2015...Issokay |

d4guy: Goodday wonderful ppl , great work you guys are doing here , pls I wan ask one very foolish question, just pity me and answer. How do u guys go about your letter of reference ? I know it goes a long way in our Applications . Hmm. It actually sounds stupid but lemme help your stupidity small . (just joking) It depends on the format your school wants the letters to be submitted. Most schools do send links to your referee's mail, through which they fill and submit the form while some schools demand scanned copies of the letters. Most schools demand for two-three recommendation letters from different referees. So I'll advise you to go meet your past lecturers/supervisor(it's advisable you meet those whom you have a good rapport with) and ask them that you'll need them to recommend you for whatever programme you're applying for. Let them know that you believe they'll give good recommendations about you and that's the reason you've come to request such from them. Giving recommendations ain't a big deal except you never built a good relationship with your prospective referees afore time. And yes, it goes a long way in marring or bettering your application. All the best as you have your recommendation letters submitted. |

Also go to the personal webpage of ALL the faulty in your department and check if they need students to work in their research/Lab. Also go to the job site of the school and seek for other administrative GA if possible. You never know.... God help us all. I'm doing that straight up. Thanks for the response. |

Don't forget that you can also check with other departments for available GA position or visit the job portal. Thanks. I'll contact the graduate Cordinator right away. |

Hello guys, pls I got admitted into BGSU for Fall 2017(MSc. Computer Science). I got the offer last two weeks and it was stated in the offer that the department is the one giving GAs and they would inform me if I'm offered assistantship which I've been waiting for. However, I got a mail from the student counsellor that I should send my docs(bank statement included) in order to be issued my i20. I don't even have the amount they stated as tuition fees and I'm hoping to get the GA, having indicated my interest during application. I would like to ask if I should my contact my graduate Cordinator to know the situation of things with respect to the GA offers in order to get my i20.
I guess this case of mine is similar to @renewable.
