Glowrie22: Hi Everyone, It's been long since I've been here, I just want to quickly share my testimony.
I came to know about this thread through my mom last year when I was getting ready for the GRE, I didn't really talk much here but this thread was very helpful. I got a lot of materials from here and even more, I got people who really helped me from here, especially @happyday. I didn't do so well on my GRE (308) though I did very well on the TOEFL, so I was very discouraged but people encouraged me that it was still possible to get funding so I decided to work hard on my application (I applied to only one school) . I contacted happyday to help me on my applications and he did every single step of the way, tirelessly reading through and correcting my essays, and giving me advice about how to email professors and other things. After finally submitting the application, I was granted admission but no funding. However, they informed me that there is a professor who is interested in funding me but he is waiting on some grants. At this point, I started thinking of applying to other schools but I couldn't really afford to. Finally, after much waiting, they contacted me that I have been granted full funding plus a monthly salary. I just want to appreciate those that created this thread and kept it running, especially Sirridy and happyday. I also want to apologize for not being regular here.
Thank you very much.
PS: The school is University of Arkansas and my course is Agricultural Economics (MS). Wawuu. Congrats dear and @bolded, welcome to the league of one school applicants . Pls don't tell the VO you applied to just one school oo. Wishing you a seamless visa application process. |

RexCheeng: Recently took the GRE.
The test day was overwhelming! I had QVQVQ; my dream format, and I proceeded to tackling the question. I cannot overemphasize the effect of adequate practice. I had almost no problem with pacing, even though I saw a few TOUGH traps disguised as questions. I was not so lucky with the verbal section. The Devil himself assisted ETS in setting the questions. Even the TC and SE I though I was good at, they proved to be too hot to handle. I barely had time to finish my last RC set and I had to make lucky guesses. I then had my break; quickly devouring my meal and from my conversation with other test takers, ETS was just in a bad mood that day. The second quant was quite tougher as expected, and I did my best and readily moved on to the verbal section; which seemed relatively easier, same as the last Quant. I reported scores; 163Q, 157V. Sent scores to four schools (major key). And I left feeling elated.
I can't but appreciate the likes of Sirriddy, Time2Smile, topiipii, OGreene, fredoricko, iekene, scholastica16, happyday, Alan (I cant spell that your long german name ) et al. for taking time out to give encouragement, tips and advice. God bless you guys real Good!
Pardon my verbose epistle and malapropist use of recondite and esoteric words. I barely saw 20 words on the exam; and I dont know what to do with the rest of the words in my head. tescoman90, ezeeche, temmitarts, et al. You are next folks! #Selah @bolded. I just kept on laughing as I read through your testimony because it reminded me of my post-GRE experience. That's a really good score. Congrats By the way, this thread needs some purging. The use of uncouth language has indeed been rampant lately. |

revenant: This Lecturers can be so selfish at times, a friend recently ask his graduate Supervisor (MS) to do a reference letter for him, deadline was approaching with many calls and text message, somehow this Man refuse to write a reference letter for him. I had to advice him to cancel the request a day to application deadline and look for someone else to do it. He has gotten his admission with or without him, some people think they are God. Hmm...Sometimes, developing a very good rapport makes such request for recommendation easy. However, some lecturers are ever busy and tend to forget. Disappointments from people we think are in the best position to help are just one of those features of life. The bottom line is we should give thanks to God that he got the admission. |

Scholastica16: Yours is for professional masters I guess or they interpreted it as such. They are usually not lenient with the flouting of their 'academic recommenders' criteria for research programs I am 99% sure of that. If anything, I'd be slightly worried if they gave me such a pass because it may indicate that they will disappoint you with respect to funding.
I believe HappyDay hinted at it when he said schools do not fund non-thesis based programs. And if you were in doubt as to whether they considered you as Thesis or non-thesis then the 'non-academic referee' may be an indicator. I used two academic recommenders and one non-academic recommender and got away with it. Her department was just too competitive I guess. |

andradaeze: In fact, I was still mooning over the mail from BGSU and another mail just entered. All these schools, they want to spoil my day today. It shall not work for them. Mail from Ohio University- Admitted to Masters without funding...
I think I need to go and have some ice-creams with some friends, then go for a movie, then....,then..... then...prolly come back very late. Then sleep. Hmm..These Ohio schools should behave themselves oo.. All hope is not lost dear. It's just one juicy offer you need. Like I always say, do keep the faith. It'll surely end in praise. |

slimmy2005: They will send it for you free to a US address, but you would need to pay the US person to post it to Nigeria for you via USPS express. I can do that for you cos I need some naira. It should not cost more than $45 to mail you the document to Nigeria. Thanks boss for such benevolence and clarification. I really do appreciate. My guy in the US wants to handle the cost of sending it to me in Nigeria. I'll tell him to use USPS then. Thanks, once again. |

Please someone once stated here that it's much cheaper to send one's i20 to an address in the US before sending it from the US address to Nigeria. I tried doing that today using eshipglobal and I could only find FedEx, UPS and DHL options with their rates ranging from $24-$30 for shipments to the US, which negates what my school stated that the i20 will be sent using USPS if a US address is provided(which I believe would save cost). So I would like to know if anyone has ever used eshipglobal to send his/her i20 to a US address and if it was sent using USPS or these other courier services.
Thanks

starboy2016: Visa denied by one useless woman in window 3 ... VO : why did you choose the school Me : after my research about the university I realized that the tuition fee is online with my fathers budget for my studies ( the bastard cuts in )
VO : When did you graduate , me :2012
Was talking with confidence ... she said what did I study I said business administration and managemt ...
VO : she asked me my specification I named the business administration and management again and also named the courses I did
She asked me definition of marketing environment ....I told her ...was talking with confidence ....she said sorry..... e no pain me atall cause I did all my best to make things work out then that means It's not the right time for me ...no be only Usa be country ...all am after is to make more money and to have many alternatives with the Usa of a thing like getting Canada visa too ...useless woman ...after waiting for them as if they are God... The VO isn't useless. Your response to why you choose the school denied you the visa. Also, your use of vulgar words is really alarming. I understand that you're upset but I'll advise that if you really ain't seeing studying in the US as an escape route, then you need to do your homework well. Read through past interview transcripts so that you can be well positioned to answer such questions because sincerely, your response to that question was below par and your next attempt might also not be the right time if you don't work on your flaws |

DanjaNinja: I made this post on the main usa student visa thread. As you prepare to study in the US, please note the following advise. You dont have to be in computer science either.
"If you intend to do a Masters in Computer Science in the Us and you do not have a first degree in computer science, i take God beg you, once you get here, dont skip these two courses/prerequistes: Intro to Computer Science and mostly importantly, "Data Structures". An intro to algorithm course is also necessary. " Very true. For me, it was recently I realized that all I did during my undergraduate days was La cram, La pour, La forget. Having gained admission to the US, I took it upon myself to download Andela's Computer Science study curriculum for their applicants, studied it and understood the fundamentals of CS seamlessly. Except you're an alien, you can never scale through CS without understanding the fundamentals. |
