jscoder: Well, I had deposits of 2k5, 3k, and 4k USD in my DOM account. my wife's Program is 1 Year. so the amount is for 1 year. I explained part of the money was for the balance of my wife's tuition of 8600 CAD. I provided a breakdown of the expenses for me and my 3 kids- 4k for me and 9k for my kids. I provided a breakdown for flight tickets and daycare for my 3-year-old and an additional 5k for miscellaneous. Oh I see. Re-echoing what Predator188 said, you didn't provide where those funds came from since you didn't use your salary account. When re-applying, kindly provide the source of the funds like paystubs etc. |

jscoder: I provided my personal statement (dom account). Yes, I am the main sponsor. I provided my employment letters, though the account I used is not my salary account. I also used the same account to apply for my wife. Was there any unexplained lump sum deposit in your account? Also, what was your estimated cost of attendance (tuition and living expenses) for the first year? I am asking because the living expenses for a family of 5 is approximately 23,000 CAD which leaves you with 28,000CAD. If your tuition is over 20,000 CAD, this means you're literally spending almost all your savings on this journey. |

jscoder: Hi Gurus,
I just got my GCMS notes and attached is the reason for the rejection. I am surprised it mentions limited funds since I presented 51,000 CAD as POF for a family of 5.
I am looking for someone to help me write SOP for my reapplication. Did you provide a personal or company's statement? Were you the main sponsor or you had someone sponsor you and your family? What other docs did you provide which shows that you have sufficient funds? Was there any unexplained lump sum deposit in your account? |

honeyade: Thank you so much for this. Cost of attendance is $75k, and I had 13k scholarship stated on my I20 as well. However, I dnt mention the scholarship while talking about the funding because I assumed VO could already see it on my i20. Considering that your brother's net income would probably be $10k, $62k is a lot of money for someone residing in the US to pay for tuition out-of-pocket. In fact, it doesn't look realistic. This is just speculation as I wasn't there when you were interviewing, so please take anything I say with a grain of salt. The VO was probably thinking why/how your brother would be willing to provide that amount of money. You can try again or apply to a different school w/ a more affordable cost of attendance. |

mayor2013: Did you get the message at all. The big question here I think IMO!! is that are you sure the very company he mentioned his brother works in. Do they pay up to that amount. The VO knows better my friend My good friend, I got the message. In case you missed this in his transcript, he said his brother works with a big multinational TECH company. As someone who works with a big multinational tech company in the US, that's all I need to know to determine his brother's total compensation without taking into account his work location |

drjustice17: I will suggest you to came down and apply to schools with Funding. Without funding, it is impossible to get visa. Although, only small % of persons can have luck to get visa without funding. Do spend your money to reapply for visa again. Your details are already on the system. Even if, you change now. That your sponsor is your parents. They will see it as a lie. You sound so confident like someone who works directly with the VO. Anyone can get a visa with or without funding. Of course, funding gives you an edge. It's possible to get visa without funding. I know a lot of folks who came in without funding. Please stop scaring other prospective students. |

honeyade: Interview Experience 3 DAYS ago VISA Status: Denied Lagos Embassy *Please read through my experience, and kindly share any recommendations for positive results next time.*
Me: Good morning ma’am VO: Good morning, please can you hand over your passport and I-20? (I handed it over through the space created to give documents) VO: can you tell me what your program is about? Me: it’s an LLM program in Intellectual property law, it’s an area of law made to protect the rights of creatives and this includes their craft, literal work or music in order for their rights to not be infringed by unauthorized persons VO: okay, so who is finding this program Me: my parents and brother VO: what do they do for a living starting with your brother Me: my brother is a cyber security expert at XYZ(big multinational TECH company), my mum is a textile trader and my dad retired as a GM of a company into his commercial farming business VO: what is their monthly income Me: my brother’s annual income... VO: no I want his monthly income Me: oh his monthly income is about $15,000, my mum’s monthly depends on the quantity of textiles sold a month but about N2.5m and my dad is in his harvest period and this month alone he made N20m from sales of his produce VO: okay, how much do you make a month? Me: 250,000 VO:Is that in naira Me: yes 250,000 naira. I am a lawyer VO: Oh you're a lawyer, how many years now Me: 2 years VO: okay, have you traveled before? Me: yes, I’ve traveled to Dubai and other African countries while I was younger for the holidays Officer: okay ……..typing something for about a minute…… Officer: I’m sorry the US immigration service won’t be granting you a US visa and the reasons behind this decision has been revealed on this piece of paper ( handed over my passport and a blue piece of paper) Me: okay, thank you Officer: you’re welcome and have a nice day Your interview is quite similar to someone I know who went for her interview recently and was also rejected. Her brother who works as a SWE in the US was also going to be her sponsor. What I can deduce from your interview transcript and hers is that the VO wasn't convinced that you would come back b/c your brother who is a USC will be sponsoring you. The VO was probably thinking you would decide to stay back and take the immigrant route like your brother. I would advise you to apply again but this time, let them know that only your parents will be your sponsor. Also, try to get some funding/scholarship from your school if you can. It makes your interview at the US embassy less strenuous. What's the cost of attendance that's stated on your i20? Without funding, this could have raised some red flags too |

Linccoln: Did you say your brother makes $15,000 a month? Which country ? If I may ask. I guess the V.O found it funny too. mayor2013: Dear friend. No need to contest this. I still maintain the over bloated figure caused the denial. Can’t you see it was shortly the VO asked you where your brother works and you told her and you further went to say 15k usd. My friend the VO knows what’s the real take home of techs in that company. Am sure you are missing something here Dear friends, you have no idea what tech guys are making in the US. As a software engineer working in the US, I know a couple of SWE friends and colleagues (mostly in FAANG) who make more than this every month. So I don't think the VO felt that figure was over-bloated. Just because you do not make such figure, you shouldn't assume that tech guys in the US are not being paid that amount of money, especially for someone like his brother with over 10years of work experience in tech. |

Northeastern: Y’all are conversant with cases of crimes committed by Nigerians because it’s your country. Everyone knows that Indians are the undisputed number one when it comes to criminal acts in the U.S and Canada. From my experience, they’re the worst set of people on earth. Employers know them as liars because they claim what they’re not on their resume.
A friend once asked an analytics guy of how to get an analytics job post graduation, the only advice he was given is to never lie like Indians. They are number one in exam malpractices in the U.S. Go to YouTube and search for Indian scammers and you’ll be amazed of how many videos are there. In fact, there are many YouTube channels focusing on those scammers
Is it Mexicans and drugs you want to talk about or MS 13 gangs from Central America? Long story short, if crimes were to be used to restrict entry to the U.S, the hammer will fall on India, first, and many others before getting to us. @bolded You're 100% right. I had an encounter with a "recruiter" from one of those Indian consulting firms last month who asked how many years of work experience I had. When I told him I had less than 2 years of work experience, he told me he would update my resume with 5 years of work experience, in order to present me to their clients as a qualified candidate. I blocked his phone number immediately and didn't accept his request to connect on LinkedIn. A friend of mine also had same experience when she was job hunting. Have you ever wondered why 67.7% of applications selected in the H1-B lottery this year were Indian nationals (Trump has not been able to successfully curb this H1-B scam yet). Most of these Indians lie a lot. During my first year in grad school when I was trying to get cheap health insurance, one of the phone calls I made was redirected to a fraudulent agency. The customer care agent had an Indian accent and he started asking me for my credit/debit card to redeem a promo/gift. Of course, some Nigerians in the US are glorified scammers who are just lazy and want to live a flamboyant life without paying the price but those Indians are what I'll call " tussi great ho" |

THEprometheus: Hello house, I am desperately in need of help! I got a full tuition waiver and a graduate assistantship with stipends of a little over 1000 dollars per month - which I believe is enough for my cost of living for a month. However, I still have a deficit of a little over 8000 dollars. I have been unable to request for an I-20 because of my inability to provide a sponsor. Thank you. Your naivety or desperation is what has made visa interviews become a herculean task that requires fasting and prayer in order to surmount. I understand that you desperately need a sponsor (I've been there before) but putting it out here that you don't mind paying to get what you want to get will create a notion that what you want to get (which I don't want to mention) can be bought. Don't forget that VOs read this thread. Kindly retract/edit your statement. Thanks. |
Travel › Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by shayhune: 12:19am On May 17, 2020 |
Lifeisforliving: Yes despite having a full fundinf Was your "full funding" equal to the amount of money you need to survive in your first year in grad school as estimated by your graduate college or international student office? If no, then the word "despite" is not applicable in this context. You needed to prove to your school that you can provide the remaining amount when your funding is deducted from their estimate. Hence, the need to show your bank statement. To answer your question about whether or not your scanned i-20 can be used at the embassy, I think the embassy will accept it if an interview is scheduled during this pandemic (which I doubt). USCIS is currently accepting scanned copies of i-20 and other docs for H1-B and OPT applications because of the pandemic and need for social distancing ( note: these scanned copies were eventually printed and sent to their offices) . So, be rest assured that they will accept it if an interview is scheduled during this season, which I doubt because things are still uncertain at the moment |

sheke01: I can relate with number 2. I took Amazon internship assessment back in February and all the technical questions could be found in Leetcode and HackerRank. Boy, na once I fail comot.
Tidied up exams today and like play like play na one year remain o. Sometimes this journey feels like a dream, it seems like it was yesterday I wrote my first GRE and asked for directions here that BigFrancis21 adviced me to switch to MIS. Mehn how time flies.
Subtle encouragement to every aspiring candidate. Do everything that you feel will aid you in achieving this dream. Write multiple exams if you must, or just for visa sake if you like. It's worth it. While going to ivy league school is good, going to a school that fits into the pocket of your sponsor or the school that offers you the best financial package might sometimes be better.
In my opinion don't sink yourself in huge debts all in the name of going to a top whatever school. A person's fate can't be determined by the school he/she attends. It's in you. Everyone is unique and let your uniqueness shine bright and you will prosper. Liverpool showed today how determination is key to success and I read an inspiring story today and I will share it here https://www./how-being-bold-landed-me-microsoft-internship-akosua-boadi-agyemang
To everyone out there prepping for interview, success. To everyone that have gotten visa, congrats and remember not to abandon the family.
Like that peak advert with papilo says "it's is you". Never ever forget this. peace out As in eh. One thing I've realized is that companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, Uber, etc don't discriminate in terms of how highly ranked your school is when they are recruiting. All they want to know is how smart you are and that can only be proven when you are able to solve their questions. I took a phone (coding) interview lately and within 20-30 minutes, I came up with a solution that passed all their test cases. This was as a result of practicing Leetcode questions consistently. The rest is history. I'll advise tech folks to go to a good school but develop yourself personally so that you can be the best candidate. One of my guys went to an average school and he works at Google now. Another colleague of mine who attends a safe school(BGSU) got an offer from Amazon. Self-development cannot be overemphasized. |

The day is drawing nearer. Commencement is approaching. It all still feels like yesterday when we were all preparing for the GRE, applying to schools, seeking funding, asking for mock interviews, reading through past interview transcripts and looking forward to a "better" life in the United States of America. I look back at this experience and all I can say is I'm grateful to God for the journey so far. It's not been all rosy living as an international student in this foreign land but every moment has been worth it. My experience here has been one of joy and regret. Joy because I keep relishing on the fact that I'm fortunate to be out of Nigeria. Regret because I wish I knew some information before migrating. In everything, I give thanks to God.
I'll just chip in some advice for tech folks(and anyone it applies to) coming or planning to come over,so you don't make same mistakes I made. 1. Whatever you learn in class is needful but challenge yourself to hone your software development skills because what really counts are your skills, not your 4.0 CGPA. 2. For the smart geeks, practice Leetcode and HackerRank questions starting from your first semester and get familiar with their problems and solutions if you really want to scale through the tough tech interviews and land a good job that will sponsor your work visa. 3. For the not-so-smart folks, if you're not ready to receive multiple rejections(or redirections as some friends call it) for jobs you applied for, just look for a good woman(USC of course) and marry as soon as you can. I'm not a proponent of marrying for "IWE" but just know that the system is against you as an international student. 4. Lastly, all those folks claiming "I fasted and prayed before I got my visa blablabla", I hope you will/are still stay/staying close to God when you get/got here. This country is full of distractions. It takes a man who knows God to remain strong and still follow God in the face of adversity, temptations and disappointments.
Wishing all prospective students who are not seeking the student visa as an escape route and who are preparing to go for visa interviews soon the best with it. I rest my case at this point. Lemme comman be going. Au re·voir. |
