You must understand that it was only as recent as 1951 that the British officially banned slavery in Ibo land.

The Ibo elite who are exclusively drawn from the freeborn and ruling class had little or no regard for the newly emancipated slaves. It was at this point in history that the discriminatory caste system became more rigidly enforced so as to prevent the now emancipated slaves from contesting and wining elective positions.

The sufferings of the majority during the war that occured a mere 15ys after the abolition of slavery in iboland , did not register in the consciousness of the Ibo elite aka freeborn who were more ready to weaponize the mass suffering of their people for propaganda points. This is why Gowon lamented and said "the Ibo elite have no care for their people's sufferings".

So it shouldn't surprise you that IPOB is repeating the same self inflicting evil and wickedness like that of the Arochukwu slave raiders and the Ibo Marxists in Enugu during the war years..

Yes, we need to face reality and get serious to grow our economy.

Our combined budget for federal and state is less than that of New York city alone.

Also, some countries that we ignorantly underate are far richer. The state of Sao Paulo in Brazil has a budget of $60b which is twice the size of Nigeria's budget plus all our states combined.
