WillyWilly enough of this  rant. This is a Nigerian problem and it will be absurd for you to make it a particular ethnic group's problem. You almost sound like you are bitter because you csnnot go into that business.

Politics › Re: Emeka Esogbue(Igbo) : A Journey To Republic De Benin: And Nigeria Experiences by shotster50(m): 7:52am On Jan 23, 2009
There is no basis for comparisons between Benin Republic and Nigeria. Cotonou as a national Capital is at best a shithole. We tend to look at other countries from a rosy tinted glass. The roads are not that fantastic when there are compared with what you have in Abuja, Accra and Abidjan.
Culture › Re: Marriage Btw A Nigerian Girl And An Indian Guy (any Objection)? by shotster50(m): 7:43am On Jan 22, 2009
The Indian culture as a whole is highly prejudicial against any dark skinned person. Marrying an Indian when you are not one can be very dangerous. A few have done it and have lasted the test of time but majority fail because as a foreigner, you are most likely never to be accepted, in the UK for e.g, you or your partner will be subject to a lot of embarrasments, even in the public. In my case, someone spat on my GF and I h ad to smack the hell out of him. This goes on and on, It makes you question if its really worth it.

My point is, it is not impossible but it is an extremely difficult situation to walk into.
Music/Radio › Re: Nigerian Rappers by shotster50(m): 11:29pm On Jan 21, 2009
I think the problem here is not just the fact that there very few good rappers in Nigeria. I think it is a problem of trying to to find a balance between American hip hop and our African culture. Since there is no written guideline on that, I guess this guys will keep doing what they are doing till the art becomes evolved.

Blame it on the Tall Israelis running the music i ndustry today (BET, MTV,etc). Everything has been commercialized so it only makes sense for them to push quantity and not quality.

I still maintain the Governor has his priorities misplaced. How is the CCTV system going  to prevent or deter crimehuhhuh Reason I ask is that here in the UK for example there are already a lot of things set in place to make this work like quick Police Intervention time, Databases, etc. These enabling factors are lacking in Nigeria presently.  The other problem will be cost of maintenance of such a massive project (CCTV officers, CCTV Maintenance, etc) since it will have no way of generating income on its own.  I am not being cynical but I think the only way this is going to work is if it used as a Traffic controlling system like in the UK (Gatso) and that also poses a lot of problems too.

@ Dipsyn, Point noted, regardless of what you or I say the Government are still going to do whatever they want  to do. As for cutting them some slack, sure i do not always criticize their moves. just the ones i feel that are not going to benefit a lot of the citizenry.
Politics › Re: Lagos Launches 24-hr Surveillance Camera Operation by shotster50(m): 11:19pm On Jan 14, 2009
@ Bronx,  if you had cared to read what i wrote, you wont find where I said it wont work, what i said was that this isn't the   biggest problem facing Lagos right now. Things need to be placed in order of priorities, don't get it mixed up. And ow, I am not asking for you to concur, i have this feeling you are simply taking your stance for the sake of it and not necessarily backed by any informed reason,
Politics › Re: Lagos Launches 24-hr Surveillance Camera Operation by shotster50(m): 11:08pm On Jan 14, 2009
It is really strange that for some people being patriotic means never looking at things without attaching and coloring it with emotions. We are all here because we identify with Nigeria one way or the other. This is not a competition about who loves Nigeria the most.
Politics › Re: Lagos Launches 24-hr Surveillance Camera Operation by shotster50(m): 10:36pm On Jan 14, 2009
I think this is a case of misplaced priorities. No doubt Fashola has good intentions but I think there are more pressing projects that need his attention than this 'eye service', cheap PR seeking antics.

I think Sorius Somura (i hope I got the name right) has done something like that on CNN, following Africans immigrants from Morocco to Europe. I actually think the poster should finish the story so that people intending to embark on this journey will see how tough it is.
