Celebrities / Jidenna Details Being Kidnapped And Shot As A 5-year-old by shudi(m): 11:08pm On Jul 17, 2015 |
Jidenna has responded to criticism regarding his commentary on the experiences in Nigeria. During a VladTV interview that was published July 9, the “ Classic Man ” star spoke about returning to the African nation to bury his dad. “When I actually buried my father, I had to bring a lot of AK-47s,” he said. “I had to employ military commandos…Just to bury my father.” He also discussed his skin color in the interview. “When you’re light-skinned, you’re a heavier target for being kidnapped,” he explained. “You’re seen as more valuable. You’re seen as you’re white.” The Backlash Those comments caused backlash. People on Twitter, for instance, voiced their disappointment with Jidenna’s comments. It's people like jidenna promoting stereotypes about Nigeria all over the stupid media and it's sad because he's Nigerian #disgraceful — Fatima popoola (@campalagirls) July 11, 2015 @Jidenna was asked simple question bout stereotypes…catyln Jenner n all ..u Brought in how u imported weapons?how does dat make sense pls? — Marc Achu (@macstunner) July 11, 2015 Damn stupid idiot get some brains @Jidenna nobody in Nigeria will kidnap you, you're too broke Nigeria doesn't want you so don't claim us — King Nyphen Freshh ♛ (@NyphenSanders) July 12, 2015 The Response So, on Wednesday, Jidenna addressed the matter on his website. In the statement, which can be read in its entirety below, the singer opened up about being kidnapped and shot as a child. He also discussed the positive experiences he’s had with Nigeria and explained his perspective more fully. To all my Nigerian brothers and sisters… I am, always have been, and always will be proud of my Nigerian heritage. I understand the pain and anger caused by some of the comments I made in a recent interview, and I wanted to address you directly. Contrary to popular belief, this interview was not the first in which I mentioned Nigeria. In fact, I’m frequently bragging about how Nigerians attend the world’s most prestigious institutions, and how we are known to produce world class doctors, entrepreneurs, innovators, lawyers, engineers, professors, athletes and artists. Unfortunately, people tend to leave these moments out, and, in this case, highlight stereotypes. I would never do or say anything to intentionally disgrace the legacy of my father nor my fatherland. But to not relay my own story, both the good times and the bad, would be a disservice. My name is Jidenna, which means “to hold or embrace the father” in Igbo. It was my father who gave me this name and who taught me countless parables, proverbs, and principles that made me the man I am today. These same principles helped me to write the record “Classic Man.” When I brought home a 98 percent on a test, my father would say, “ah ah, where are the other two points? Go and get them, then bring them back.” My father and Nigerian culture has always stood for excellence. While the majority of my childhood memories are beautiful, I also have experienced the challenges that Nigeria has faced since Independence. When I was 5 years old, my family was robbed at gunpoint, my mother was beaten, family members were kidnapped, and I was shot in my foot. As is the case with all kidnapping, targeting those who are perceived to be wealthy is the objective. In this instance, my father was the target because of his prominence in the community. This was a traumatic experience for my family that would shape our entire lives and our experiences in both Nigeria and America. As a little boy, I swore that I would never let that happen to my family again. As my father often said, “Once you’re bitten by a snake, you‘ll be ready to shoot a lizard!” At the time of my father’s burial 5 years ago, my family in the village was concerned about increased targeting for kidnapping since the rate of abductions had increased dramatically in the area we are from. We were traveling from America, which along with our biracial appearance, had the potential to attract attention and pose a threat to our security. In light of what happened in the past and the tense climate at the time, my family took precautions to ensure our safety. This was not an uncommon protocol at the time. I recognize incidents such as these are not unique to Nigeria or the African continent, and there have been significant improvements in the region since this period. In the recent interview to which I’ve been referring, I shared my family’s experience traveling from the States back home for the burial. In this interview, I used the term “light- skinned.” When using this term, I was actually referring to my immediate family’s mixed or biracial appearance. See, no matter what language I use to describe my heritage, I’m certain that someone will feel some kind of way. This is a larger discussion not meant for this statement, but certainly derives from our colonial past and postcolonial present, and in the States, from the days of slavery to the present times. My comments about skin tone were related to the notion of perceived wealth and value, not my personal beliefs. My point was never to imply that biracial or “light- skinned” people are the only ones or the most targeted group of people kidnapped, or that I myself was wealthy at the time. Rather than focus on my perceived value, let us continue to focus on the value of Nigeria. There is no question that Africa is playing a pivotal role in the future of our planet and that Nigeria, with it’s booming economy and burgeoning middle class, is a driving force. I will continue to play my role in the Renaissance taking place in Nigeria and Africa at large. We may not agree on everything, but know my heart is your heart, and my experience is part of our collective experience. http://www.mtv.com/news/2217354/jidenna-nigeria-kidnapping/

Travel / Italian Court Awards $40,000 To Nigerian Migrant Over Adoption Law Breach by shudi(m): 10:27pm On Jul 17, 2015 |
Italian authorities have granted a Nigerian migrant $40,000 following the ruling that his human rights were infringed. MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Italian authorities have granted a Nigerian migrant $40,000 following the ruling that his human rights were infringed in his daughter’s adopting process, a European Rights Group said Friday. The case submitted last year concerned the Italian court’s decision to place Eyitope Akinnibosun’s two- year old daughter, who travelled with him from Lybia to Italy in 2008, in the care of social services and her subsequent adoption by a foster family. On their arrival, the undocumented migrants were transferred in a refugee centre in Trepuzzi, where the psychiatrist noted Akinnibosun’s daughter was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and had a difficult relationship with her father suspected of contributing to the illegal trafficking of people. In 2013, following the Lecce Family Court’s ruling to suspend the migrant’s parental responsibility and contact rights on the basis of his material and emotional inability to take care of his daughter, the child was placed in a foster family and subsequently declared eligible for adoption. On July 16, the European Court of Human rights declared a violation of Article 8, right to respect for private and family life. According to Human Rights Europe organization, Italian authorities compensated Akinnibosun non-pecuniary damage, other costs and expenses, resulted from the social services not taking the appropriate steps to enable the migrant maintain any ties with his daughter and overcome their difficulties. Recent conflicts in North Africa and the Middle East displaced millions, triggering a mass exodus to neighbouring countries and an influx of undocumented immigrants to Europe. According to UN data, some 130,000 people have risked the journey across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe so far in 2015. http://sputniknews.com/europe/20150717/1024766475.html lalasticlala |

Health / See How You Can Reduce Sweating (men) by shudi(m): 11:01am On Jul 12, 2015 |
Sweating keeps the body cool in hot weather but it becomes a problem when one perspires excessively. If not controlled, it could lead to body odour. Here are ways to manage sweating 1. Use antiperspirants Deodorants only mask unpleasant smells, but antiperspirants stop sweating. Antiperspirants contain aluminum salts, which plug the sweat glands and reduce the amount of sweat that travels to the skin. Men who sweat always should use extra-strength antiperspirants even for the groin. To apply on the groin, simply swipe the antiperspirant over the sweaty area. Discontinue immediately if there is any rash, burning sensation, or irritation on the skin. 2. Stay fresh To sweat less, take extra measures to stay fresh. Covered and hidden parts of the body like the armpits and crotch area are prone to sweat more than other areas. Bathing two or three times a day especially at the periods when the body sweats the most, could keep the body cool and reduce sweating. Also, applying talcum powder could help cool down the body. 3. Reduce caffeine intake Caffeine, contained in hot coffee has a way of stimulating the sweat glands and makes you sweat more. It stimulates the central nervous system, which activates the sweat glands. If you have to drink coffee, be sure it is not too hot. ,4. Change your wardrobe If it is likely that you will spend a lot of time outdoors, opt for clothes with cool and breathable fabric like cotton or linen. Also, clothes that absorb sweat can also help you stay dry. Some colours, like black and other dark shades make people sweat more. Men who have sweaty feet should not go barefoot when wearing shoes. Damp feet are a perfect place for smelly bacteria and fungi to thrive. Opt for sandals for air circulation around the feet. If you have to wear shoes, wear with socks to absorb the sweat. Socks made of cotton are more effective. 5. Try Botox Botox, used by most celebrities to smooth out wrinkles, has also been successful in treating excessive underarm sweat. It works by blocking chemical signals from nerves which trigger muscles of the sweat glands to open up and release sweat. The disadvantage is that it is not a permanent solution but its effect can last up to six or eight months. Also, they could be expensive and have side effects. Consult a doctor or dermatologist before receiving Botox injections. 6. Get medication Not all cases of excessive sweating are ordinary; some medical/health conditions could stimulate excessive sweating from the sweat glands. When this condition lingers for long, it is advisable to see a doctor for diagnosis, prescription and treatment. http://www.punchng.com/spice/for-men/sweat-less/ 9 Likes 5 Shares |

Could you believe that Lagos state police command is currently investigation of 100 cases of missing person between January to May 2015? Oh, and that's only Lagos state. What is the way out? Maybe the recommendations should be base three classes as follows; What should the government do? What should the security agency do? What should the citizenry do? Politics / Criticisms Won’t Stop Me, I Am Only Accountable To Nigerians – Saraki by shudi(m): 10:42pm On Jul 10, 2015 |
Senate President, Bukola Saraki has declared that he is not moved by those attacking him over his emergence as the leader of the 8th National Assembly. Saraki has been under serious verbal attacks following his refusal to accept the outcome of the APC mock election, where the party settled for Ahmed Lawan as the Senate President. However, the former Kwara State governor said he was aware that many persons had labeled him a traitor, as had gone as far as digging up several stories about him and blaming him for the crack in the National Assembly. Saraki said he remained unfazed by the “negative lives” and promised to continue being focused regardless. Reacting to stories about him via Twitter, Saraki stated, “I’m aware of activities of certain online platforms being sponsored by mischief makers to post all sorts of negative lies against me. “The lies will not change my focus to deliver on my mandate, which is to ensure legislation that will directly impact the lives of Nigerians. “No matter the pressure, no special interest group can blackmail #8thSenate to do their bidding. I AM ACCOUNTABLE ONLY TO NIGERIANS,” he tweeted. http://dailypost.ng/2015/07/10/criticisms-wont-stop-me-i-am-only-accountable-to-nigerians-saraki/ Cc: Don lalasticlala 1 Like 1 Share |

Crime / 19-year-old student stabbed to death in his sleep in Kaduna (Pic) by shudi(m): 1:34pm On Jul 10, 2015 |
Tragedy struck yesterday at the Government Technical College, Malali in Kaduna north local government area of Kaduna state, when a 19 year old student, Mohammed Sani was found dead on his bed in the school hostel with machete cuts on his body. Father of the deceased, Alhaji Harisu Sani, said he received a call from the Principal of the School around 4:30am. He asked if he was the father of Mohammed Sani and upon confirmation, he was instructed to rush down to the school because his son is dead. “Based on this, I dashed to the school thinking my son passed away in his sleep but when I arrived at his hostel, I saw him in the pool of his own blood, stabbed on the right side of his chest with a sharp object which I suspected to be a knife.’’ “What baffled me most was that there are about 200 students in the hostel and I wonder why none of them saw the killer or killers and did not raise any alarm. I believe that my son was killed by somebody within. The school authority and the state government should tell me what happened to my son because as a boarding student, he was in their custody” he said. The father, who resides at Michika road, Tudun Nupawa in Kaduna south Local Government, told newsmen that he is going to use all available legal means to ensure that justice is done on behalf of his son. http://dailypost.ng/2015/07/10/19-old-year-student-stabbed-to-death-in-his-sleep-in-kaduna/

Politics / Buhari Is Operating Like A Pseudo- Military President – Njiko Igbo Forum by shudi(m): 11:22am On Jul 10, 2015 |
A South-East based pressure group, the Njiko Igbo Forum, NIF, has faulted the All Progressives Congress, APC, over its claim that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had not made sensitive appointments because it was still cleaning the mess left by former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government. In an exclusive interview with DAILY POST in Enugu, the President of the group, Rev. Okechukwu Obioha said President Buhari and the APC should admit their failure and stop looking for excuses, noting that it was unjustifiable for the President to be running the country without Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF. While maintaining that such development was strange to democracy, Obioha said, “Buhari’s one month in government is no government at all; one had thought that as soon as he comes in, things will change because he made a lot of noise and promises during his campaign. “But from what we have so far, I will first of all say that we are having a pseudo-military president now, looking at what has happened so far. For a month plus now, this government has no SGF, it has never happened in the history of Nigeria; so, this is why we are stating that what we have is head of state, even though he answers president”. Faulting those who believe it was too early to assess Buhari, he said, “I get to wonder when some people are saying we should give him time; what time are we giving him? This is one month after; we are not even talking of ministers but that government should be set in motion; but he hasn’t done that; all he is doing is gallivanting around from one part of the world to another; we accused Obasanjo of travelling so much but his own is more; our people say that somebody whose house is burning does not pursue rat. “Now, let me say this, it is even becoming obvious that before we do anything we go to America, we go to London, we go to Zimbabwe, tomorrow we will also go to Cote D’Ivoire before we take a decision; that is why we say we continue to say that he was rigged in; we can’t expect anything because the process that brought him in is a corrupt process”. The group while sympathizing with the victims of renewed insurgents in the country, decried the transfer of Boko Haram prisoners to Anambra State, describing it as a deliberate attempt to spread the activities of the sect in the zone. The NIF President , who also expressed doubt in the ability of the Buhari administration to curtail the insurgents said, “the insurgents are angry, the people who instigated them are the one in power now, so I don’t know how they will solve this riddle; now, they are talking about negotiation, so they have now admitted that these people are stronger, they are now going back to square one, these same people were againt any decision Jonathan took, now they are going back; tomorrow, they will say they are giving them amnesty. “This brings to fore the injustice in this country; that’s why I blame Jonathan in a number of ways; look at Senator Ali Ndume, who is standing trial for Boko Haram related activities, but he is walking as a free man; then look at Biafran Zionists, they have been detained for several months now; this is why I blame so called Igbo leaders, they are only representing their belle; so, I see these people going further; that’s also why we are against what they called prison swap; it is intended to make Boko Haram spread to this place, but unfortunately we don’t have anybody to speak for us, that’s why they did this”. On the current crisis rocking the National Assembly, Obioha said Ekweremadu was being persecuted because he is an Igbo man. “You should know that the NASS we have now, the face is Coca Cola but the body is Fanta; it started during the time of Tambuwal and it was condoned, that is why the Tambuwal they are bringing now to mediate has no moral right; he can’t begin now to talk about party supremacy because he is the one that broke that jinx; that’s what these people have followed. “What we are now saying is that if it were to be a northerner, they would have conceded; its only because this is an Igbo man; they (the West) connived with the north to remove Jonathan, now they are reaping the benefit; the same NASS members voted Saraki, Dogara and Ekweremadu, so, all of them should remain there, if they are touching him, let all the NASS leaders go; Ekweremadu must never be singled out”, he stressed. http://dailypost.ng/2015/07/10/buhari-is-operating-like-a-pseudo-military-president-njiko-igbo-forum/ Cc: barcanista, ishilove, obinoscopy, omenka, lalasticlala |
Politics / Buhari’s Sacked CSO, Mani May Return As Chief Detail by shudi(m): 10:29am On Jul 10, 2015 |
President Muhammadu Buhari may have recalled his sacked Chief Security officer (CSO), Mr Abdurahman Mani. Mani, a senior officer with the Department of State Services, DSS, was asked to leave the position last week. He was posted to Ebonyi state. Buhari had also fired Widi Liman, his administrative officer. Both men were accused of turning appointments with the president into a “business venture”. Bashir Abubakar, formerly an assistant director in the Bayelsa State command of the DSS, was appointed the new CSO to the president. Liman, who is yet to be replaced, was a close aide to governor of Kaduna state, Nasir el-Rufai, while he was FCT minister. He has been transferred to Oyo state command of the DSS. However, information gathered on Friday suggests that the sacked CSO had been recalled to the Villa, though in another capacity – President Buhari’s chief detail. Mani was yet to report in Ebonyi State before the recall. Buhari’s loyalists reportedly made case for Mani, who was regarded as loyal and dedicated throughout the course of the presidential campaign. Mani had served in similar capacity to General Buhari for four years prior to his election as president. The former CSO had opposed an order by the aide- de-camp, Lieutenant-Colonel M. L. Abubakar, that DSS officials should vacate about 10 beats in the villa. Mani, on June 26, issued a memo to counter a June 24 memo by the ADC, which also announced that DSS officials should stop close body protection of the president. The memo, asked operatives of the DSS to ignore the earlier memo by the ADC, because the “author ventured into a not-too-familiar terrain.” “The extant practice, the world over, is that VIP protection, which is a specialised field, is usually handled by the Secret Service, under whatever nomenclature. “They usually constitute the inner core security ring around every principal. The Police and the military by training and mandate are often required to provide secondary and tertiary security cordons around venues and routes,” Mani noted. http://dailypost.ng/2015/07/10/buharis-sacked-cso-mani-may-return-as-chief-detail/ Cc: lalasticlala
