Duke, I've seen that Rotimi dude in a number of videos and I think he's in 50's 'Power' mini episodes. I didn't know he is Yoruba until I saw that lotto video on Worldstarhiphop.

Yes, he's Yoruba and he's one of the main characters on the season of the Power series.

I think he's signed to Gunit now and you'll see him around 50cent a lot and probably in all the subsequent Power Series cos the script looks like he's going to be there for a long time.

Wale started the trend of Yoruba artists using their Yoruba name, rather than a tag. There's a next one signed to Young Jeezy (I can't remember his name cos I don't really like his type of music and he has the ATL funny accent lol) using his first name. OG Maco is also Yoruba. And there's a Houston Rap legend called "Lil O" - he's also Yoruba, the "O" is for "Ore", his name. He was actually born in Lagos, but raised in Houston. There are so many of them, especially from New York City. The Akinyeles of this world etc.. If you listen to Nas a lot, you'll hear a lot of Yoruba names among the guys he grew up with in Queensbridge. There's a "Taiye" guy he talks about all the time. Then you've got some from Brooklyn as well, who're mostly into production and management. But with a lot of them, their parents have been in the US since the 60s.

I'm not even thinking that way - just alluding to the fact that I can relate to all the verses.

I had a chic in the past when I was about that life and wild as fvck. This chic used to tell me to stop hanging out with all kinds of friends, stop going clubbing all the time, stop traveling etc. crying and playing all kinds of emotional blackmail. We broke up and she still blames me for that.

Boom, fast forward to now, she's the one doing everything she used to disturb me about. She's always going out with all types of crazy friends, clubbing and traveling everywhere. And every time I see her these days - she's always wearing skimpy and crazy dresses. The last time I saw her, she had this short denim on, with just bra and her panties...and the button was loose. I was in utter shock, like what happened to this girl? Heck, the heifer still called me last week from Vegas.

So when I first heard this tune, I just related to the lyrics straight-away cos that's my experience as well. Drake was basically talking to me with that tune.

Nah. I was alluding to a peculiar that you'll see and know that the person is Yoruba. It's like when you see a romani, you'll know straight away, an Eastern European, or Ghanaian etc.. Not saying there's anything wrong with the Yoruba. Do you get my drift now? It's just seeing someone that looks like, let's say Usher or Lil Wayne, you won't call it a Yoruba look, would you? That's basically what I was alluding to. Yoruba nyggahs are the best looking Nigerians, with cool/gentle faces - the dapper dons and swag lords.

Similar suburbs have been springing up on the outskirts of Lagos too, but unlike London those suburbs are sprawling, unplanned communities with poor levels of infrastructure and zero amenities.

In the past decade, areas like Ajangbadi, Igando and Okokomaiko along the Mile 2-Badagry expressway have sprung up; Ikorodu and Ijede is another sprawling area outside Lagos that is currently receiving govt attention, as housing estates of all sorts are being built there;

Omole, Ojodu-Berger, Isheri, etc., are also new areas that have expanded rapidly along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and have become densely populated mini-cities on their own, unfortunately the level of infrastructure has not kept pace with the population explosion on that axis.

Along the Lekki-Epe expressway, areas like Sangotedo, Awoyaya, Abijo, Lakowe, Bashorun, Ibeju-Lekki, Akodo have all sprung-up along that axis. Again, the population in those communities has quadrupled astronomically, but sadly infrastructure again cannot keep pace with the rise in population along that axis. The remodelled Lekki-Epe expressway is still inadequate to cope with the traffic in that region due to bad planning. 15 years ago, that whole stretch after Ajah to Epe was nothing but dots of villages, idyllic beaches, tons of palmtrees and not much else. I used to go for picnics with my friends then at Epe, as a youngster. Today, it is a totally different story. Those village lands have all been bought up, and have witnessed a heavy influx of people, businesses and all sorts. They have turned into another arm of the city, on its own.

Ambode recently promised to install electricity in about 67 communities in the Lekki-Epe area. Let's hope he fulfils his promises.

That's what I was alluding when I said Ogun can't afford to make the same mistakes Lagos made. With how all these new places are springing up everywhere - they're just building different layers of ghettos.

How will they even be able to benefit from proper governance when there's no plan for whatever shanty towns they're building everywhere? Le Sigh. These folks need to do something about this madness.

In saner climes, the government prepares for population growth, with forecast, and include whatever influx in the plan - before it happens. Milton Keynes is a classic example. They're expecting over 350,000 people to move there in the next 5-10 years and the government has started expanding the city eastwards to accommodate that.

Let's just keep pushing this thread for now to enlighten folks and use it as a medium to discuss issues and celebrate people - without the other toxic intrusions synonymous with this forum these days. Anyway, when it's time to build the medium, I'll volunteer to do it, depending on what my workload/schedule is like.

Don't worry, with the passion I see on this thread - we all want the best for Yorubas. Though our approaches might be different cos of how diverse our backgrounds are.
