Car TalkRe: How Important Is Mileage For Nigerian-used Cars: Dealers Please Advise by Sicherheit(m): 1:14am On Jul 09, 2011
Great Analysis Fhemmmy!

@ Topic
There are certain cars that no matter how high the mileage, the price hardly takes a huge dip for a very long time. Cars like Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, BMW, their mileage could be clocking 200,000 and you can still find them for sale for five figure amount because of their perceived durability. When you compare those cars to others like Hyundai, Kia, Chevy, Ford etc. These cars lose almost half their value after the second year, despite their low mileage.

Also just quoting the distance from Lagos to Kaduna does not paint a clear a picture of what the has really being through. You have to put into consideration the condition of the roads the car traveling on, all the potholes causing you to swerve, break suddenly and when you can't avoid them, drive into causes more wear and tear. A 1000km road trip in yankee can never be compared to a 802km in Naija.

My friend's father will buy cars with high mileage as long as they are highway miles compared to low city stop and go miles because he believes highways are easier on the car's suspension, engine, breaks etc. Next time you are in stopping every ten seconds because of Lagos traffic, look at the cars around and ask yourself sincerely if you can buy those cars even if they are selling it for toro. undecided
AutosRe: PLEASE HELP !!!! CRACKED WINDSHIELD WHILE ENGRAVING NEW CAR by Sicherheit(m): 12:45am On Jul 09, 2011
It's unfortunate they don't sell windshield repair kits in lagos, those thing work. I used it about 3yrs to fix a crack in my windshield, the repair shop was quoting me $200 for it while the windshield repair kit cost only $40. It took me about 2hrs to do the job.
Try and keep the thread alive until tomorrow morning (don't let the car adverts bury it), maybe somebody in naija can help you

Your husband does not respect or love you, that much is pretty clear or he won't subject you to such humiliating tasks in the presence of his siblings.
How well did you know him before marriage? What was your relationship like with his family before the two of you got married?
On a different note, Marriage must mean something else to Nigerians because the stories people post here are unreal. undecided

FamilyRe: I Urgently Need Ur Advice On My Husband And His Ex-girlfriend by Sicherheit(m): 6:52pm On Jul 03, 2011
chaircover:
Some women and men too distrust their partners even though they have no reason to do so. It could be as a result of what they saw their parents get up to, having being cheated on in a previous relationship etc.

Unless you end up marrying ones first boyfriend/girlfriend, many peeps enter new relationships with heaps of baggage & ideas; and not everyone is able to leave the baggage at the door & start a new relationship on a clean slate.

These are just general points and I am in no way saying that the poster isn't justified in her not trusting her husband and she may have valid reasons for not trusting him.

I personally dont think that there is anything wrong is having the odd contact with an ex (emphasis on the word odd) but for me that is because I trust my husband and he trusts me.

What I have found over the years is that all sorts different friendships come and go and it is only the true ones that really stand the test of time.

I don't think that the posters ex is in anyway more dangerous than any other woman the posters husband will come in contact with in his daily life; if the hubby is indeed a randy fellow then even the househelp is game and so if I was the poster, I wouldn't waste my time on the ex alone but look at the larger picture.

The man too needs to work on reassuring his wife that her fears are unfounded (thats if they are) and try not to do anything that will make her to further distrust him. Speaking to an ex everyday on the phone is not the way to go about things. If only people treat other people the way that they will like to be treated.
You are a very sensible, rational and composed woman and your husband is a very lucky man.
It will do many women right to learn from you.
Well done.

Car TalkRe: Vehicles From Unauthorised Dealers Won't Be Registered - Lagos by Sicherheit(m): 5:25pm On Jul 02, 2011
What they are trying to do is admirable but they have to base the rule on VOLUME. One person selling his car to his neighbor should not have to go through a dealer. However if the person is selling more than 3 cars a month, he falls under the dealer category and should be subjected to the new rule.
It is going to be interesting to see how they will enforce this law especially with those fake registrars who parade the car lots ready to issue fake registration.

The couple on their wedding

When 30-year-old Akolade Arowolo and Titilayo tied the knot in November 2008, there was merrymaking as families, friends and well-wishers joined them to celebrate what appeared like true love. Many unmarried young men and women, who graced the occasion, wished they were in the shoes of the couple.

After a while, it was learnt that the couple had a baby girl. Both families and well-wishers were on hand to share the joy of the arrival of the baby with Akolade and Titilayo.

However, on Friday, it was with rude shock and disbelief that the residents of Aswani area of Isolo, Lagos where the couple lived, received the news that Titilayo had been stabbed in the chest and her body mutilated by her husband.

The question on everybody’s lips was: what could have gone wrong? Curious enough, Titilayo was murdered on her husband’s 30th birthday.

When PUNCH METRO spoke with a former classmate of Akolade in the University of Lagos, he said Akolade battered his wife on several occasions because he was frustrated. Akolade’s classmate, who craved anonymity, suspected that he (Akolade) was drunk and stabbed her to death on the day of the incident.

He said, “Arowolo lost his job about two years ago. Titilayo had been sustaining the family with her salaries. I heard he beat her, but she did not tell her relatives. She however confided in one of her colleagues.

“She got home one day and saw that he had sold her car. When she confronted him, he said he needed money. It strained their marriage for a while and she left the house. But she later went back.”

It was learnt that Titilayo, an employee of Skye Bank, Marina, confided in one of her colleagues that her marriage was undergoing challenges but was reluctant to leave because she did not want her daughter to be raised in a broken home.

Some of Akolade’s colleagues at the Federal Government College, Ijankin, Lagos, in 1998, who did not want their names to be mentioned because of the sensitivity of the case, described him as an easy going person, “who does not meddle in other people’s affairs.”

One of his colleagues, who gave his name simply as Tayo, after much pressure by our correspondent, said, “Arowolo was ahead of me for a year in Ijanikin. Sometimes he would be absent from school for a whole term and you would not even notice because he never got into trouble and never kept many friends.”

PUNCH METRO gathered that although Akolade was not gainfully employed, he was running a company registered as ‘Auditing Business’ and functioned as both the auditor and the Chief Executive Officer. Despite this, it was learnt that Titilayo was solely responsible for the upkeep of the family and this frequently caused friction between the couple.

One of Titilayo’s colleagues in the office, who craved anonymity said, “ Last Friday, she (Titilayo) started her leave and informed her parents she would be coming over for the weekend because her father lives in Ifako while she lived in Isolo with her husband. She was the one that even paid the house rent. She paid about N1.3m recently.

“When her relatives didn’t hear from her again, they called her phone several times but she didn’t pick her calls. Later, her husband called back to say they had a small misunderstanding, which had been sorted out.

“They asked to speak with her, but he said she was busy and would call back later. But they didn’t hear from them again. The neighbours however saw her husband jump through the window with blood stains and drove off. But since there was no screaming from the apartment or any noise to suggest they were quarrelling, the neighbours thought all was well.”

PUNCH METRO gathered that Titilayo’s body was discovered two days later with a knife still in her neck. She was stabbed severally in the face and chest.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, said he was not aware of the incident and asked that he should be given more time to find out.

But when he was called two hours later, he said, “You still have to give me more time because I just left a meeting now.”
Poor woman, she was trying to save her daughter the heartache of being rejected in the future for coming from a broken home. So now that the daughter is a product of a murdering home, will she be more appealing to future suitors, will she make a better wife? undecided

Excuse me, maybe he was not thinking straight. Not everyone is smart like you on where to do a ritual killing.

First timer, they did not explain to him the matters on how to kill her without getting caught or maybe the occultists did not tell him how because they wanted him to get caught so they can make money from the bosoms.

It just does not make sense him being mentally ill. I don't see it.

It makes more sense that he killed her like that because he is mentally unbalanced than the ritualistic killing for money being purported.

May the woman rest in paradise.
Let's try to think straight abeg, if it was ritualistic killing for money, wouldn't it make sense for him to kill her secretly? How did he hope to he get away with killing her so carelessly like that, abi is it from prison he will enjoy the money?  undecided

@ Tpia
Bros, the fact that the killing was violent does not mean it was a ritualistic killing.

davidylan:
Well obviously their prayer and fasting didnt work. I wont be surprised if one of them describes the situation as the "will of God".
Some women think there is only one answer from the prayer and fasting, which is their husband will change for the better. They don't think that the escalation of his violence after their prayers is a sign from God for them to leave because the marriage by force or by fire has been ingrained into them from girlhood. undecided

I don't understand the role the media plays in Nigerians development.I have seen so many embarrassing pics here on nairaland about our various security agencies on duty  involved i different illegal activities that infacts is a big failure for them and of course a big blow on our country in general but yet non of this pics had made a head line in our various newspapers.
If this pic is real,it should be on the front line of a newspaper.
You inadvertently answered your own question, these activities are so common place, they don't move anyone anymore or even get noticed. Expecting to see it on the news is It's like saying the media should report on people breathing. The headline grabbing event will be when these people are actually doing their job like they are supposed to and are doing it well.

Yes, I think mostly true but not always true.

The factors are simple, A girl from a stable home is afraid to go back home with her luggage that i am done with that useless husband because she knows her mother and father will likely not agree and allow her disgrace them.

But for a child from a broken home, the mother can quickly say, "welcome my dear, i told u all men are the same"

A yoruba adage says that it is better to have a bad wife than a bad in-law.

I believe everything is by conscious effort and God's grace all the same.

The standard used to be high but it is now stagnant. Imagine, my 10yrs old cousin is using the exact textbooks I used when I was in primary 5 over 20yrs ago. Extracurricular activities is nonexistent, all they know is to jam pack the children's brain with outdated facts. I found an educational website for my cousin and encourage to expose himself real knowledge outside Ilesanmi.

His older brother in secondary school showed me his computer notes and it was full of Binary. BINARY? In this day and age, they are teaching binary. Ask any of the students to turn on a computer and open some files, they will be looking like mugu. The computer science teacher has no idea how to do basic computer stuff, he calls on my nephew for help.  undecided
