RomanceRe: Is It Proper For My Girlfriend To Sleep In A Guys House? by silentc(m): 10:36am On Feb 05, 2010
Trust is a gift and you should honour that gift by not breaking the trust. Just because a man trusts a woman doesnt mean she should break that trust by spending the night in the house of a guy who isnt related to her.

If a woman trusts me, I will not break her trust by putting myself in a situation where i am spending the night in the house of a woman who isnt family. I will make sure that I dont end up in that situation (i.e I will find somewhere else to sleep).

This doesnt make a guy controlling or insecure. He must trust his woman 100% , but sleeping in the house of another guy is not treating his trust with respect. In my opinion, she may not be cheating on you, but she needs to understand that her actions dont make you comfortable. A relationship is a responsibility of each others feelings and in this case she needs to handle your feelings which doesnt like her spending a night in the house of another man.

Lovemoi2, it seems that you and the guy have nothing in common. Your tastes, styles, interests might be different. Also it seems the chemistry isnt there.

Best thing is to end it all and not carry on with him as I dont think he can be anything different.

There are loads of naija guys that can connect with you at a level that keeps you excited and on your toes. Just keep looking.

cap28, your points are fair and correct BUT, it takes 2 to tango. The problem is equally shared between the western world  AND Nigeria. We cannot sit and pretend we are victims. The west take advantage of Nigeria, but the people in power have a good hand in it too. Please do not believe it is not a 2 way street. I understand all you mentioned about unfair trade and IMF loans and you are 100% correct, but remember the IMF loans were not spent on Nigerian Infrastructures or used in developing Nigeria at all. They were squandered by the ruling party. The conditions of these loans were negative, one of which was SAP (Structural Adjustement Programme) which was imposed by IMF. This was basically asking us to cut social expenditure and a host of other conditions that suited the west in our bid to pay back these loans (for example privatization and selling of govt owned industries and resources mostly to western countries, which was not good for Nigeria).

The UK, US etc. are corrupt countries, let us not pretend they are not, but they invest the basic infrastructure on their citizens i.e good roads, electricity, healthcare, education etc,  If 50% of Nigeria's revenue's were spent in Nigeria no one would complain as much.

I ask you a question, do you see a lot of Libyans around the world i.e as immigrants? Libya may not be the best friend of the west at the moment, but they invest their resources in their own country (yes, i know Ghadaffi is a tyrant). The quality of life in Libya is a lot better than most African countries.

All I am saying is that I am not naive enough to think the west is free of influencing and aiding corruption in Nigeria, but i want to look inward first and sort it out from Nigeria before we can look the west in the eye and say no to their negative influences.

mikeansy:
If Alan Little could respond effectively to everything Ojo Maduekwe says meaning that he understood and somehow you sit here to suggest that you are too english to understand what Ojo Maduekwe was saying. Then I thing you need a re-assessment of who you are and who you want to be.
Again, you have made an incorrect assumption that:
1. I couldnt understand what Ojo Maduekwe said. If you read the posts you will see that i have not said i did not comprehend what he said.
2. You are taking it onto a personal level and it would only be civil to leave it out (with regards to your comments on me re-assessing you I am or want to be).

I stand by my point that if he is a minister that is representing Nigeria he should speak with clear english enunciation. I will take my time to make myself clear. I am NOT saying he should speak with a BRITISH accent, but clear ENGLISH enunciation. This is my opinion. You can agree or dis agree. But you should respect that it is a different opinion to yours and not get personal about who I am or what I am.

You raise a fair point that Alan little understood him which is correct. But i am personally of the opinion that he should take elocution lessons. For me, when I speak my natural language aka mother tongue (which isnt English), i enunciate it correctly. When i speak pidgin, i try to enunciate it correctly. If you have assumed I think or feel Nigerians are inferior to the white or British (based on my opinion) then you are mistaken. I am proud to be Nigerian without a doubt and feel we are one of the smartest/innovative/dynamic people in the world. I am not just impressed with the people that represent us in the world.

Anyway, all this aside. I would like to see well articulate and intelligent people representing Nigeria in the political world.

Katsumoto:
Nigeria has no policy of any kind except the 'chop make I chop too' policy in Abuja. I laugh when I listen to these idiots speak in public. Whilst one does not have to speak in a British or American accent, the foreign minister of a country like Nigeria should be able to speak in a clear and concise manner even it has a regional accent or tone. Using Steven Gerrard as an example is laughable because the last I remembered, Steve Gerrard is not the foreign minister of a nation. A foreign minister should be articulate; Kingibe comes to mind. There are many well spoken and articulate Nigerians but just like we find in policy making, these articulate Nigerians do not get selected. Instead we are stuck with a bunch of retards from the obviously lacking political class.
Thanks Katsumoto, your statement above is concise and 100% spot on.

The intelligent, well articulate Nigerian rarely have a chance to get into a power to influence our lovely country. Greed and corruption is the order of the day. If you try to do anything different, you hit a brick wall (or even get killed) as the system is corrupt from top to bottom.

But that is stating the problem. What can we do to change it and change the future of Nigeria? It is easy to state problems (as i am guilty of doing too). But what do we do individually and as a country to change our future for the betterhuh?
The accent issue is not an issue bros. The Americans don't speak English with the 'English' acent. The Irish have their own accent, same goes with the Scots. even in England, People from the north have their own funny accent. Have you ever listened to Steven Gerrard talk? So, stop making yourself look inferior on that issue unless you want to make a fool of yourself.
Sunny, if you read carefully what I said, i did not say that Ojo Madueke should speak in an English accent. I said he should speak in clear audible English (and I gave 2 examples of other Nigerian who speak clearly). I also made reference to elocution lessons. Proper elocution of the English language doesnt give you an accent. Steven Gerrard has an accent but that doesnt mean people sometimes have problems in understanding him. Steven Gerrard needs elocution lessons if his English comes out with so much of his Northern accent that he cannot be easily understood when he speaks. I have been in a meeting where a Scottish guy who was speaking the English language in his Scottish accent was told that the audience couldn't understand what he was saying. He was speaking English, but with an accent so strong that he wasn't communicating to anyone. Agree or not, if you speak a language, you should speak it clearly and try to avoid a strong accent with it. You can agree or disagree without making inferences to my opinion i.e with reference to your statement -"So, stop making yourself look inferior on that issue unless you want to make a fool of yourself. "

So where does the vice president sit in relation to the FEC? What is the role of the FEC? Who is formally in charge of the country? If the FEC can make decisions why do we even need a president at all?

In my opinion (and this is my opinion, so let us avoid getting personal), i dont think that a country where the president can be out of office for 2 months and the vice president isnt officially in power can be seen in a positive light. We have to call a spade a spade.

I am not naive to think that the UK and US (or western world) are clean or not corrupt. But I am bold enough to also know that Nigeria as a country has its own problems with our leaders and those in power and this conversation is about the problems with our leaders so I will focus on that for now.
PoliticsRe: Watch Ojo Mmaduekwe Talking Trash On Bbc Hard Talk. by silentc(m): 8:35am On Jan 21, 2010
I agree with SEFAGO on the accent issue. If Nigeria chooses English as her official language, then it should be spoken in clear English without a confusing accent (Using Chima Adichie as an example, her accent is clear and understandable. Wole Soyinka is another example). What is wrong with a Minister taking elocution lessons? When my ex-girlfriend taught me to speak igbo, she taught me to pronounce words with the igbo intonation and pronounce the words correctly. I don't mean he should speak with a British accent, but a clear English accent (Not British or American accent, there is a difference). When Nigeria chooses another language as the official language of the country(Igbo, Yoruba etc) then he should speak that language and get an interpreter (just as an Iranian Minister would etc)

That aside, the main point is that if the Minister wants to play the game of "spin", he should do it right. He didn't sound intelligent in his answers (even though we know he was avoiding answering the questions 100% honestly). That is the criticism. It felt he was backed into a corner. We cannot sit here and say a minister hasn't spoken to his President for 2 months. The structure which we abide to live by i.e presidency and a constitution does not allow for a president to to not speak to his ministers for 2 months. It is unacceptable! If we choose to be run in a non democratic fashion, fine. Then we can play by those rules. But if we choose to be a democratic constitutional country, then it is wrong that the president hasn't handed over to the vice president to formally take control of the country.

Every ship needs a captain. This is just my opinion. It doesn't make me less or more Nigerian or make me love or hate the US/UK/Western world.

Hey, he doesnt deserve you. I have taken the time to read your post and feel your pain. In a few years time, you will look back and wonder why you were in tears and so hurt. You would have found someone that deserves you better and loves you for real.

You ex isnt a real man as there are more mature ways of ending a relationship. If he comes back, you will be silly to take him back as he has shown you his true colours.

Hang in there, focus on your career and wait until the right man that deserves you comes along.

Michelin you are hard to please oh!

4/10 is an "F"!!!!  grin

It takes skills and dexterity to be able to manoeuvre inspiring positions while holding a camera or phone (as the case may be).

I think it is a little immature of the guy to post that. She trusted him when she allowed him record their "F"-rated movie. He broke that trust even if they broke up.

Personally though, she was a little too hairy (him too!)

Debosky, you are right again. We do need to have a sensible discussion. At the moment, the UK cannot sustain the levels of immigration it is seeing. I am of the opinion that legal migration is an issue that governments can control if they choose to. Illegal immigration can be "contained" but not 100% controlled i.e people can overstay visas etc.

The UK government can limit the number of work permits given, limit the number of tier 1 visas given per year, limit the number of student visas, stop the post study work visas etc. Why havent they done it? Is it soo hard to implement? I would want to think that there are other reasons why they keep on allowing immigration on this scale in the UK and still turn a blind eye.

There has been waves of west indian (Jamaican?) immigrants between 1948 and 1970 (see link: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/education/lesson11.htm). I also know that the UK government went to west indian countries and recruited immigrants to work in the underground, post office etc. The same with Indians who immigrated to the UK. At that time, they needed immigrant labour.

What I am trying to say is that at the moment, due to the recession and its lasting effect (we are looking at 2-5 years of its effect on the economy of the UK at best) immigration will have to be reduced. But be rest assured that when the economy of the UK needs to get back on its feet, immigration numbers will go up as it is all part of the process of "labour needs" of the national economy.

PS: ignore NordicRace. He is can be more intelligent that he is being on this forum. But chooses to be uneducated and narrow minded with incorrect facts and perceptions. How can you have a conversation with someone who chooses to be myopic? I can compare it to joining a British or American forum and I keep on posting "All whites are paedophiles, All whites are paedophiles". It is just plain silly.
TravelRe: Cameron: '70 Million Is Too Many. I'll Cut Immigration By 75 Per Cent' (UK) by silentc(m): 11:30pm On Jan 11, 2010
First of all, I think Debosky is right. The UK will have to tighten its rules on immigration in the coming years. It is only natural in a recession for the government and UK citizens to look at immigration as a negative thing. It is cyclical. When jobs, budget and services are cut, immigration becomes a sore thumb and foreigners are not welcome as they are seen as taking jobs and resources.

The link between schooling and getting a 2 year visa PSW (IGS) visa after schooling will be cut, Work permits wont be given to students when they finish their course even if they find a job, Unfortunately, this will have to happen. In a few years time due to the cyclical nature of the global economy, when things pick up, they will "lower the bar" again.

On a final note, I think NordicRace is a little sad as he hangs around Nigerian forums disrespecting "Africans", very sad, get a life! There is nothing you can do about it. As long as there are UK/European citizens working in Africa then Africans will work in Europe. Cause and effect. You colonized Africa, when you leave Africa, we will come over and colonize Europe. It is only fair!

What goes around, comes around!

I don't mind any European who doesn't want immigrants. When they specifically don't want third world immigrants, then I know they are racist (i.e they are happy to have Americans, Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians in their country but not Africans, Indian etc.)
